(Image courtesy of Yonhap) SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s construction workforce is aging rapidly, with the average age of construction professionals exceeding 51, up from 38.1 in 2004, according to a report released on Thursday by the Korea Research Institute for Construction Industry (KRCI). The increase of 13 years over two decades highlights a significant demographic shift within the sector. While the average age of all workers in South Korea rose from 39 in 2010 to 43.8 in 2022, construction has aged at an even faster pace. From 2010 to 2023, the construction industry saw an average age increase of 6.2 years, the third-highest among industries, trailing only healthcare and social welfare services (9.6 years) and facility management and rental services (6.4 years). Sharp Decline in Youth Participation The proportion of workers in their 20s and 30s in the construction industry has plummeted from 64% in 2004 to just 15.7% today. With over 80% of the workforce now in the middle-aged or senior demographic, the sector’s core labor force has shifted to workers in their 50s and 60s. This aging trend poses significant challenges. The KRCI warns that entrenched industry practices and cultural norms, combined with declining youth interest, could create a cycle that further deters younger generations from entering the field. Causes and Recommendations In addition to South Korea’s broader demographic changes, the report attributes the decline in youth participation to persistent stereotypes about the construction industry, including perceptions of hierarchical structures and rigid workplace culture. The KRCI emphasized the need for a cultural shift toward horizontal relationships and creativity-based practices to attract young talent. “Adapting to a new era through more open and egalitarian workplace cultures can break the cycle of youth aversion and reinvigorate the construction workforce,” the report stated. As the industry faces a demographic crossroads, addressing these structural and cultural challenges will be essential to sustaining its workforce and future competitiveness. Suspended soccer coach Bev Priestman has broken her silence, saying she hopes something positive comes out of the ongoing Canadian drone-spying scandal. “I hope out of a really tough situation, this is a turning point for our game,” she wrote in an Instagram post via her verified account. “There has been a standard and precedent set now, irrespective of gender, tournament or associated revenues that will hopefully clean up our game.” She did not address her role in the affair in the six-paragraph post. Priestman, assistant coach Jasmine Mander and analyst Joey Lombardi are all serving one-year FIFA bans for their role in the scandal, which saw the Canada women’s team use a drone to spy on two New Zealand training sessions at the Olympics. Canada Soccer says the three won’t be back in the wake of the recent independent report into the scandal. Lombardi is already gone, having resigned his position after the Olympics. “The findings of the independent investigator reveal that the incident itself was a symptom of a difficult and unacceptable past culture within the national teams,” Canada Soccer chief executive officer and general secretary Kevin Blue and president and board chair Peter Augruso said in a statement when the report was released earlier this month. Canada Soccer continues to investigate the roots of the spying scandal and has initiated a disciplinary process against former men’s and women’s coach John Herdman, currently coach of Toronto FC. The governing body has said it “has initiated a proceeding with respect to Mr. Herdman under its Disciplinary Code.” Herdman did not speak to Sonia Regenbogen, who wrote the report. Priestman signed a new contract in January that runs through the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The 38-year-old Priestman took over the Canadian women on Nov. 1, 2020, and was initially appointed “through the next quadrennial.” She had been working on a rolling contract — until the new deal. “It has and will continue to take some time to process, heal, find the right words and step back into a public setting but I felt I should say something irrespective of ongoing circumstances,” Priestman wrote. In addition to the suspensions, FIFA docked the Canadian women six points in the group stage at the Olympics and fined Canada Soccer 200,000 Swiss francs ($312,815). Despite that, defending champion Canada still managed to make the knockout round before losing a penalty shootout to Germany in the quarterfinals. “I know that amazing group was ready to reach the top again this summer, but in many ways what they did was even more special under such difficult circumstances,” Priestman wrote. She also thanked those who had reached out to her. “You continue to help me through some dark days,” she said. Canadian under-20 coach Cindy Tye has been named interim coach for the sixth-ranked Canadians’ upcoming friendlies in Spain against Iceland and South Korea.
Creditors approve proposed $32.5B deal with tobacco giants today: lawyerMIAMI — The Miami Dolphins began their attempt to turn their season around following a 2-6 start three weeks ago. They once again held serve on Sunday against an opponent they were favored to beat. And they did so emphatically by routing the rebuilding New England Patriots 34-15 at Hard Rock Stadium. It was the Dolphins’ most lopsided win over the Patriots since a 38-13 victory at Foxborough, Mass., on Sept. 21, 2008 — the game in which Miami implemented the Wildcat formation and Ronnie Brown accounted for six touchdowns. It could have been even more lopsided with Miami leading 31-0 early in the fourth quarter before giving up a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns including Christian Gonzalez’s 63-yard return for a touchdown of a Jaylen Wright fumble, which forced the Dolphins to put several starters including Tua Tagovailoa back in the game after they had been pulled to rest them for Thursday’s game. Tyrel Dodson’s interception of a pass by New England starting quarterback Drake Maye with 5:13 left in the fourth led to a Jason Sanders 51-yard field goal to seal the outcome. Tagovailoa remained sharp and delivered one of the best performances of his career, throwing four touchdown passes. Jaylen Waddle put together his best game of the season, catching a season-high eight passes for a season-high 144 yards and a touchdown. The score was his first since Week 1 against the Jaguars and only his second of the season. Miami’s defense was dominant as well, recording four sacks of New England starter Drake Maye. Rookie Chop Robinson had one of those sacks, and had what appeared to be a strip sack in the second quarter that was later ruled an incomplete pass. Zach Sieler had a strip sack in the third quarter, which Jordyn Brooks recovered. And so, the Dolphins (5-6) won their third consecutive game over a team at or under .500. The victory, on a short week, set up a crucial showdown Thanksgiving Night at Green Bay, which figures to be Miami’s toughest opponent since this winning streak began. And the Dolphins will likely play that night game, which is set for an 8:20 p.m. kickoff, in cold temperatures with the expected low being 20 degrees as of Sunday according to the Weather Channel. But Tagovailoa, who has struggled in cold weather games during his career, will enter Thursday’s contest with plenty of momentum after completing 29-of-40 passes for 317 yards, the aforementioned four touchdown passes and no interceptions. Tagovailoa’s four touchdown passes matched his second-highest total for his career and the first time he has thrown that many since Sept. 24, 2023 against the Broncos in the game the Dolphins set a franchise scoring record in a 70-20 rout. It was the fourth game of his career with four or more touchdown passes. Tagovailoa now has 11 touchdowns and only one interception in 20 quarters since returning from the concussion he suffered in week 2 against Buffalo. His 128.9 passer rating was his best over that span and the third game he has posted one of 124.9 or higher. Tagovailoa has posted a passer rating of 89.4 or higher in each of those five games. Tight end Jonnu Smith continued to be a focal point of the Dolphins’ offense with nine catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. ©2024 Miami Herald. Visit at miamiherald.com . Austin Seibert's 51-yard field goal pulled the Commanders within 27-20 with 1:40 left, With the score tied 3-3, Washington took the second half kick and went 60 yards in 10 plays. On third-and-three from the Dallas 17, Daniels faked a handoff, ran left and scored his first rushing touchdown since Week 4. Seibert missed the point after and Washington led 9-3. Dallas answered with an 80-yard drive. A 23-yard pass interference penalty gave the Cowboys a first-and-goal at the 4. Two plays later Rush found Jalen Tolbert in the end zone and the extra point made it 10-9. Brandon Aubrey's 48-yard field goal made it 13-9 with 8:11 remaining in the game. On the next play, Daniels hit John Bates for 14 yards, but Donovan Wilson forced a fumble and Dallas recovered at the Washington 44. Five plays later, Rush found Luke Schoonmaker down the middle for a 22-yard touchdown and Dallas led 20-9 with 5:16 left. The first quarter was all about field goals. Aubrey's field goal attempt was blocked on the opening drive and Michael Davis returned it to the Dallas 40. Washington later settled for Seibert's 41-yard field goal. On the next Dallas drive, Aubrey hit the right upright from 42 yards out, and then Seibert missed from 51 yards. With 14 seconds left in the half, Rush found Jalen Brooks for a 41-yard gain to the Washington 28. On the next play Aubrey connected from 46 yards to tie it. --Field Level Media
Georgia loses QB Carson Beck (arm) during SEC title gameDepartment of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz on Thursday revealed that more than two dozen confidential human sources (CHSs) were outside the Capitol building during the January 6 protests. The FBI only assigned three CHSs to be present during the protests, and the report emphasized that none of the sources were authorized or directed by the bureau to “break the law” or “encourage others to commit illegal acts.” The report explained: Today’s report also details our findings regarding FBI CHSs who were in Washington, D.C., on January 6. Our review determined that none of these FBI CHSs was authorized by the FBI to enter the Capitol or a restricted area or to otherwise break the law on January 6, nor was any CHS directed by the FBI to encourage others to commit illegal acts on January 6. The report continued: One FBI field office tasked a CHS to travel to DC to report on the activities of a predicated domestic terrorism subject who was separately planning to travel to DC for the January 6 Electoral Certification; a second FBI field office tasked a CHS to travel to DC to potentially report on two domestic terrorism (DT) subjects from another FBI field office who were planning to travel to DC for the events of January 6; and a third CHS, who had informed their handling agent that they intended to travel to DC on their own initiative for the events of January 6, was similarly tasked by their field office to potentially report on two DT subjects from other FBI field offices who were planning to travel to DC for the events of January 6. The FBI, in reaction to the Horowitz report, stated that the bureau: ... did not have primary responsibility for intelligence collection or event security on January 6 but nonetheless ‘recognized the potential for violence and took significant and appropriate steps to prepare forthis supporting role.’ Further, the Report includes the OIG’s analysis regarding the FBI’s use of confidential human sources (CHSs), and concludes that no FBI CHSs ‘were authorized to enter the Capitol or a restricted area or to otherwise break the law on January 6, nor was any CHS directed by the FBI to encourage others to commit illegal acts on January 6.’ The bureau also said it will accept the inspector general’s recommendations to “assess the processes and procedures it uses to prepare for events that it determines present potential domestic security issues — but have not been designated as NSSE or SEAR events by DHS — to ensure that its processes and procedures set forth with clarity the division of responsibilities between and within the relevant FBI field office and FBI Headquarters.” “This report confirms what we suspected,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “The FBI had encouraged and tasked confidential human sources to be at the Capitol that day. There were 26 total present. Four entered the Capitol and weren’t charged, which is not the same treatment that other Americans received.” “This has been our concern all along — agencies being weaponized against the American people. It’s not how our system is supposed to work,” he added. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) wrote on Thursday, “It’s no coincidence that FBI Director Wray announced his resignation just prior to the release of the IG report exposing activities of FBI confidential human sources at the Capitol on Jan 6. For four years, I pressed for answers on this. Now the malfeasance is finally exposed.” Sean Moran is a policy reporter for Breitbart News. Follow him on X @SeanMoran3 .

Investors Are Encouraged to Contact The Rosen Law Firm About Ongoing Investigation of Breaches of Fiduciary Duties by the Directors and Officers – LUVInvestors that have a high tolerance for risk might want to consider the ASX shares in this article. That's because they have just been named as buys with major upside potential. Here's what analysts are saying about them: ( ) The first small cap ASX share that is being tipped as a buy is Ai-Media Technologies. It is a technology company that allows many of the world's leading brands to caption their TV broadcasts, live streams, events, virtual meetings and more. It notes that its technology delivers over 7 million minutes of captioning, transcription, and translation for live and recorded media content, online events, and web streams every month. Morgans rates the company as a buy. Last week, its analysts said: Technology led captioning is the bulk of AIM's gross profit today and should exceed 90% within the next 12 months. Management has highlighted it will now aggressively pursue growth, targeting $60m of EBITDA by FY29, with the requirement of upfront investment in sales and product development. We see substantial share price upside if management achieve its target. We estimate that $60m of EBITDA in FY29 is worth $2.91 in FY29 or $1.44 today. This equates to a ~40% IRR, leaving substantial margin for error. The reward is, in our view, well worth the risk. Morgans has an add rating and $1.00 price target on its shares. This suggests that its shares could rise 27% from current levels. ( ) Another small cap ASX share that is highly rated is Paradigm Biopharmaceuticals. It is a biotechnology company focused on repurposing Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium (PPS) for the treatment of Osteoarthritis (OA) in the knee. If approved the drug will have the brand name Zilosul. Bell Potter notes that the "global market for a safe, effective treatment that provides superior patient outcomes compared to the standard of care is a multiple blockbuster." It adds: In the US along the incidence of moderate to severe osteoarthritis is estimated at 30m persons. The pricing of the drug will ultimately be determined by the economic benefit associated with its use as well as the cost of other therapies. The conservative estimate is US$2,500 per year which places the addressable market in the tens of billions of US$. In light of this, the broker is highly encouraged by recent trial data and the prospect of phase 3 studies starting next year. As a result, Bell Potter put a speculative buy rating and 80 cents price target on its shares last week. This implies potential upside of 38% for investors over the next 12 months.Yak Gotti is still facing RICO and murder charges in the YSL case, and despite a recent legal win , some other trial elements threaten to impact the public perception of the proceedings. Moreover, this relates to the interrogation video that surfaced with him, and one clip making the social media rounds right now depicts him eating a meal during the session. Of course, the audio isn't the best, so you can't always make out what Yak and interrogators are talking about, but some people launched snitching accusations whereas others characterized it as a completely normal process. At this point of the YSL RICO trial, this is an all too familiar narrative that never really cleared up enough for fans to make conclusive statements. As such, a lot of people just want to see Yak Gotti make his case in the fairest way possible and close out the YSL RICO case on the most just note. For those unaware, he refused a plea deal around the same time that Young Thug took one, as he and his lawyer plan to take their case to a jury and fight for a not guilty verdict. Shannon Stillwell faces similar charges to Yak's involving alleged murder and alleged gang activity, plus a gun charge as well. Readers may recall that a fellow inmate stabbed him in prison last year, and how he fortunately recovered from the harrowing incident. Their fates remain pretty unclear, as it's difficult to predict where the trial could move next and what decisions could really impact the outcome. Maybe that's just our reflexes talking, as the rest of the trial previously became so chaotic . Meanwhile, as for Young Thug himself, he's still supporting Yak Gotti and Shannon Stillwell during their stints. He also took some time recently to reconnect with his boo , Mariah The Scientist. With all the developments of the YSL RICO case in mind, it will be very interesting to see how all these individuals' lives continue when it's all said and done. Some face snitching accusations, some will stay in jail, and all of them formed part of a critical legal process. Read More: Young Thug & Gunna Timeline: YSL Records, RICO Case & Beef
The Philippines VP publicly threatens to have the president assassinated
WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States should avoid engaging militarily in Syria amid an opposition offensive that has reached the capital’s suburbs, declaring in a social media post, “THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT.” Trump’s first extensive comments on the dramatic rebel push came while he was in Paris for the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral . He argued that Syrian President Bashar Assad did not deserve U.S. support to stay in power. Assad’s government has been propped up by the Russian and Iranian military, along with Hezbollah and other Iranian-allied militias, in a now 13-year-old war against opposition groups seeking his overthrow. The war, which began as a mostly peaceful uprising in 2011 against the Assad family’s rule, has killed a half-million people, fractured Syria and drawn in a more than a half-dozen foreign militaries and militias. The insurgents are led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham , which the United States has designated as a terrorist group and says has links to al-Qaida, although the group has since broken ties with al-Qaida.” The insurgents have met little resistance so far from the Syrian army. Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad. Russia, because they are so tied up... The Biden administration has suggested that their fast-moving advances toward Damascus demonstrate just how distracted those countries are by the war in Ukraine and other conflicts, but said that the U.S. is not backing the offensive and has not suggested the U.S. military will intervene. The U.S. has about 900 troops in Syria, including U.S. forces working with Kurdish allies in the opposition-held northeast to prevent any resurgence of the Islamic State group. Gen. Bryan Fenton, the head of U.S. Special Operations Command, said he would not want to speculate on how the upheaval in Syria would affect the U.S. military’s footprint in the country. “It’s still too early to tell,” he said. What would not change is the focus on disrupting IS operations in Syria and protecting U.S. troops, Fenton said Saturday during a panel at an annual gathering of national security officials, defense companies and lawmakers at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. Syrian opposition activists and regional officials have nonetheless been watching closely for any indication from both the Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration on how the U.S. would handle the sudden rebel advances against Assad. Robert Wilkie, Trump’s defense transition chief and a former secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, said during the same panel that the collapse of the “murderous Assad regime” would be a major blow to Iran’s power. The United Nations’ special envoy for Syria called Saturday for urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an “orderly political transition” in Syria. In his post, Trump said Russia “is so tied up in Ukraine” that it “seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years.” He said rebels could possibly force Assad from power. The president-elect condemned the overall U.S. handling of the war but said the routing of Assad and Russian forces might be for the best. “Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!” he wrote in Saturday’s post. An influential Syrian opposition activist in Washington, Mouaz Moustafa, interrupted a briefing to reporters to read Trump’s post and appeared to choke up. He said Trump’s declaration that the U.S. should stay out of the fight was the best outcome that the the Syrians aligned against Assad could hope for. Rebels have been freeing political detainees of the Assad government from prisons as they advance across Syria, taking cities. Moustafa pledged to reporters Saturday that opposition forces would be alert for any U.S. detainees among them and do their utmost to protect them. Moustafa said that includes Austin Tice , an American journalist missing for more than a decade and suspected to be held by Assad. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham renounced al-Qaida in 2016 and has worked to rebrand itself, including cracking down on some Islamic extremist groups and fighters in its territory and portraying itself as a protector of Christians and other religious minorities. While the U.S. and United Nations still designate it as a terrorist organization, Trump’s first administration told lawmakers that the U.S. was no longer targeting the group’s leader, Abu Mohammed al-Golani. ___ Associated Press writer Tara Copp in Simi Valley, California, contributed to this report.
