Bathinda: Apprehending possible attempts by the Punjab govt to ‘forcibly' provide medical aid to fasting farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal in view of the tough stance taken by the Supreme Court, the protesting farmers on Sunday stepped up security at the Khanauri border protest site. Dallewal's fast unto death entered the 34th day on Sunday, and health is slipping every day, according to the team of doctors monitoring him. It is learnt that a three-ring security is in place, with volunteers on guard round the clock. The volunteers check every vehicle coming to the protest site, note down the registration number, and check the identity of those in the vehicle. Apart from this, the tractor-trailers around Dallewal's chamber have been welded together to prevent any vehicles from approaching it. The top court had on Saturday asked the state govt to file an affidavit outlining the compliance on providing medical aid to Dallewal. The court will take up the matter on Dec 31. The farmers maintain that the court has taken a strict view on medical aid to Dallewal, but the letters written by Dallewal to the President, Prime Minister, and Chief Justice of India have been ignored. Urging the Supreme Court not to give such hard directions, farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohad said that they are protesting the Gandhian way, and going by it, Dallewal is facing hardships on his body. He cautioned that in the event of something untoward happening, the central govt and the constitutional institutions will also be held responsible. In a bid to prevail upon Dallewal to accept medical aid and to assess the situation, retired ADGP Jaskaran Singh, retired DIG Narinder Bhargav, Patiala Range DIG Mandeep Singh Sidhu, and Patiala SSP Nanak Singh held a meeting with the farmer leaders at Khanauri. Amid these developments, the farmers on Sunday readied for the Dec 30 Punjab bandh. SKM (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have called for a Punjab bandh on Monday and claimed their strike call has received strong support from transporters, employees, traders, and other sections of society including religious bodies.The outfits have called for disruption of rail and road traffic from 7am to 4pm and a complete shutdown, with no supply of even milk and vegetables.Emergency services have, however, been exempted from the bandh call. However, the further their prices rise, the lesser the odds that they will continue to rise further. We are currently in the midst of a two-year bull market in tech stocks that shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, you could argue that we are in a 16-year bull market in tech stocks, one that was interrupted very briefly in 2018, 2020, and 2022 but never seriously challenged as a long-term trend. The periods just referred to were technically “bear markets,” but they didn’t last long. The 16-year trend is clear. You have to wonder how long this party can go on for — the U.S. tech sector is currently valued at an amount approaching that of U.S. GDP. That doesn’t mean a bear market is a near-term certainty, but on a long-term basis, these valuations could cause some problems. In this article, I will explore why U.S. tech stocks have gotten so expensive and why “this time isn’t different.” 46 times cash flow According to CSI Market, the U.S. tech sector is currently trading at 46 times cash flow. The company’s report does not state whether it is talking about operating cash flow or free cash flow, but the multiple is extremely high regardless of which cash flow metric you look at. 46 times cash flow multiples tend not to last long. The U.S. tech stocks are growing, so the multiple could come down because of that. However, these companies’ growth rates are, in many cases, not that high. Also, the growth could reverse, like it did in 2022. The incredible story of Palantir’s nosebleed valuation One company that serves to illustrate the priciness of U.S. tech stocks is Palantir. The are more heavily concentrated in value sectors like banking, energy, and utilities compared to the U.S. markets. So, investing in a TSX index fund could be one way to diversify your portfolio away from the 60-times-sales wonders dominating the U.S. markets. Consider ( ), for example. It’s an ETF based on the S&P/TSX Capped Composite Index — the 240 biggest Canadian stocks by market cap. The fund actually holds 220 of the 240 stocks, meaning that it represents its benchmark fairly well. Why would an investor consider taking a position in a fund like XIC? He pointed out a 28.94 per cent increase in rape cases, with 2,945 incidents recorded in a year averaging eight per day. He said kidnapping and abduction cases have shot up by 82 per cent, which is shameful. “Women’s safety and dignity are at high risk. Public safety under the Congress government is in shambles. This reflects a severe governance failure,” he said. Responding to the annual crime report of the Telangana police on Sunday, Harish Rao raised concern over the State’s deteriorating law and order, citing unresolved heinous crimes such as the murders of retired bank manager Gangareddy and his wife in Amberpet, and BRS leader Sridhar Reddy – both occurring months ago with no arrests till date. “Over 163 major cases remain unsolved, and financial frauds worth Rs 10 crore (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); lack recovery or detection,” he said.
