Defense contractors that have embraced diversity, equity, and inclusion policies could find themselves targeted under the new Trump administration, especially as Republican lawmakers have full control of Congress for the next two years. President-elect Donald Trump is set to issue a wave of changes to the defense industry when he takes office and is expected to overturn several Biden administration policies focused on DEI initiatives. That puts several defense contractors under the microscope as Republican lawmakers make plans to bring an end to diversity programs in the Pentagon and the defense industry as a whole. “Under the Trump administration, extreme and divisive DEI initiatives across the Pentagon and government agencies will come to an end,” Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) told the Washington Examiner. “Taxpayer dollars should strengthen our military and national security — not fund radical agendas that distract and divide us. America’s defense industries must focus on protecting our nation and ensuring we lead with strength and unity on the world stage.” Republicans have long sought to crack down on DEI initiatives in the defense sector but have lacked the power to do so over the last four years with Democrats in charge of the White House and Senate. But GOP lawmakers in the House have attempted to use their majority to pass bills signaling their plans to dismantle DEI programs, as evidenced by the lower chamber’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act passed earlier this summer. The spending bill included a number of culture war amendments targeting abortion access and transgender military members — proposals deemed dead on arrival in the Democratic-controlled Senate but could see new light when Republicans take control of the upper chamber in January. “The American people spoke loud and clear when they elected President Trump and Republican majorities: they are sick of the Left’s obsession with DEI,” Sen.-elect Jim Banks (R-IN) told the Washington Examiner. “Taxpayers should not subsidize this radical woke agenda, and President Trump will put a stop to it.” Republicans are already preparing for a massive defense overhaul under the Trump administration, which was seemingly confirmed with the president-elect’s nomination of Pete Hegset h to become the next secretary of defense. Hegseth has repeatedly criticized diversity concerning the military, once referring to it as the “dumbest phrase on planet earth.” With his nomination and others in Trump’s administration, those in his close circles have hinted that organizations outside of the defense industry may also come under fire. “President Trump is putting together a stellar Cabinet that is focused on America First and helping all Americans,” Kimberly Guilfoyle, fiancée to Donald Trump Jr. and who worked on Trump’s 2020 campaign, told the Washington Examiner. “Companies pushing woke policies like DEI are in for a rude awakening.” Several GOP sources close to the president-elect’s team and the Senate told the Washington Examiner that Lockheed Martin will be among the targeted defense contractors in the forthcoming Trump era. “Lockheed Martin has been the poster child for DEI,” one source close to the Trump transition said. “I imagine the Trump administration will give them increased scrutiny for embracing the left. It could harm Lockheed’s ability to navigate this new Washington.” Those involved with those plans pointed to the firm’s policies implemented over the last several years, including a training program reported by Fox News that Lockheed Martin executives and employees underwent that reportedly taught being “a white male was analogous to being a KKK member.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER But, while some of those in GOP circles seek to paint Lockheed as an anti-Trump entity with its DEI policies, the defense contractor has aligned itself with the president-elect in the past — working closely with his administration and benefitting from many of his policies. "As we did in his first term, we look forward to a strong working relationship with President Trump, his team, and also with the new Congress to strengthen our national defense," a spokesperson for Lockheed Martin told the Washington Examiner. "We are aligned with the focus of building mission-critical defense technology that helps keep Americans and our allies safe, and to that end, we follow responsible business practices expected by our customers, investors, employees, and other stakeholders." Other defense contractors that could come under fire include RTX Corporation , Boeing , and Northrop Grumman Corporation . All have DEI programs publicly listed on their websites, although Boeing has since reportedly dismantled its diversity department. The Washington Examiner reached out to those defense contractors known for its DEI policies for comment.Air Canada's decision to charge new fees on budget fares has drawn criticism from travellers, industry experts and the federal government, who argue the airline is unfairly burdening passengers with additional costs. Starting Jan. 3, 2025, passengers flying on Air Canada's basic-economy fare within North America will be charged $35 for their first carry-on bag, with additional bags costing $50 each. Small personal items that fit under the seat, such as purses or laptop bags, will remain free. Also, come late February, checked baggage fees will increase to $35 to $42 for the first bag and $50 to $60 for the second on domestic and select international routes. "That sucks. The service isn't getting any better and the prices are getting pretty intense," says air passenger, Nico Arellano. "I have two children — a baby and a toddler — and we have to bring all their essentials and to pay extra for that, for families it's very unacceptable, actually." The new policy also introduces fees for seat selection and changes for budget fares, while premium upgrades like extra legroom seats will remain available at a higher cost. "I don't pick seat at this point. I would like to travel as economically as possible," says Kinsenge Mbaga, who's travelling from Ottawa to Fredericton. "The charges I find the most annoying are probably baggage, especially carry-on. When they're not included with the ticket, it's a real pain and I feel like that should just be basic. You should be able to have a bag or two, but that's not always the case and sometimes if it's at the gate, it will cost you more." Transport Minister Anita Anand criticized the airline's new policies, calling them a "cash grab" that hurts Canadians who are already facing rising costs for travel. Meanwhile, Air Canada defended its decision, saying the fees are necessary to cover rising operational and labour costs. The airline pointed out that similar fees are already in place with many global carriers, noting that passengers booking higher-tier fares, will continue to enjoy free baggage allowances. The changes have sparked frustration among travellers, particularly those who rely on lower-cost fare options and critics argue the fees disproportionately impact budget-conscious flyers and may lead to higher overall costs when compared to slightly higher-tier fares. "Carriers can charge whatever they want to charge. Today it's 35 bucks. Next week, it's going to be 60 bucks. The week after, it's going to be 100 bucks. Nobody's watching over these things; it's based on what the market can bear," says airline analyst John Gradek. "We're not done yet with these fees. There are other things that they can do to, kind of, you know, further nickel-and-dime passengers flying on domestic routes." The federal government has promised to review the impact of these changes on consumers as part of its ongoing efforts to improve air passenger rights in Canada. For now, travellers are urged to carefully review fare details to avoid unexpected charges. "It's a shame that Air Canada has decided to join the likes of Porter and WestJet in charging people for carry-on bags for the lowest fare type and it's a sign of the times that Air Canada is afraid of losing market shares and wants to basically maximize its revenue by having these cheap airfares with a whole bunch of additional revenues coming in," says Gradek. "It's not a stretch to think that the government, within its regulation, can start to provide oversight and management of the way in which these airlines are putting these fees into the marketplace." NICOSIA, Cyprus , Dec. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- BC.GAME , a premier cryptocurrency i-Gaming platform, announced its decision to withdraw its license specifically from Curaçao. This move reflects Curaçao's increasingly hostile environment for operators in recent years. Despite ongoing efforts to modernize Curaçao's i-Gaming law, proper legal protection for all operators established in Curaçao is severely lacking, such as its bankruptcy law which dates to 1931 via the " Curaçao Bankruptcy Decree " which can easily be exploited by malicious actors and used against legitimate operators. Therefore, on 5 th December 2024 , BC.GAME decided to officially withdraw its Curaçao license. This will in no way affect BC.GAME's wider international operations. Separately from Curaçao, BC.GAME holds gaming licenses in multiple other jurisdictions, and its international operations remain fully compliant with its applicable regulatory obligations. Adapting to industry trends As the global gaming industry faces an increasingly complex regulatory environment, this move by BC.GAME is essential in enhancing and maintaining its operational strategy to ensure continuity and to realign BC.GAME with suitably evolved and robust regulatory frameworks for the benefit of its international operations. A November 28th press release from Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan, a Crown corporation owned by the Government of Saskatchewan and established in 2023, announced grant distribution for the second quarter. Grants were awarded to charitable groups and organizations in over 280 communities throughout Saskatchewan. These quarterly grants are provided to organizations in good standing that engage in licensed charitable gaming activities, including bingos, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Texas hold ‘em poker tournaments, and Monte Carlo events. Hundreds of charitable and nonprofit groups throughout the province receive these funds every year, and we encourage more groups to apply.” Quarterly gaming grants provide significant benefits to communities throughout the province, allowing various groups and organizations in cities, towns, and villages to continue their important work. According to the latest information from Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS), approximately $2.8 million was awarded during the quarter from July 1 to September 30. This funding supports over 1,400 community organizations across the province. The grants represent 25 percent of the net revenue generated by each charitable event, with a maximum limit of $100,000 per organization per year.
