(AP Photo/David Zalubowski, File) DENVER (AP) — Amid renewed interest in the killing of JonBenet Ramsey triggered in part by a new Netflix documentary, police in Boulder, Colorado, refuted assertions this week that there is viable evidence and leads about the 1996 killing of the 6-year-old girl that they are not pursuing. JonBenet Ramsey, who competed in beauty pageants, was found dead in the basement of her family’s home in the college town of Boulder the day after Christmas in 1996. Her body was found several hours after her mother called 911 to say her daughter was missing and a ransom note had been left behind. The details of the crime and video footage of JonBenet competing in pageants propelled the case into one of the highest-profile mysteries in the United States. The police comments came as part of their annual update on the investigation, a month before the 28th anniversary of JonBenet’s killing. Police said they released it a little earlier due to the increased attention on the case, apparently referring to the three-part Netflix series “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey.” In a video statement, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said the department welcomes news coverage and documentaries about the killing of JonBenet, who would have been 34 this year, as a way to generate possible new leads. He said the department is committed to solving the case but needs to be careful about what it shares about the investigation to protect a possible future prosecution. “What I can tell you though, is we have thoroughly investigated multiple people as suspects throughout the years and we continue to be open-minded about what occurred as we investigate the tips that come into detectives," he said. The Netflix documentary focuses on the mistakes made by police and the “media circus” surrounding the case. JonBenet was bludgeoned and strangled. Her death was ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever prosecuted. Police were widely criticized for mishandling the early investigation into her death amid speculation that her family was responsible. However, a prosecutor cleared her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, and brother Burke in 2008 based on new DNA evidence from JonBenet's clothing that pointed to the involvement of an “unexplained third party” in her slaying. The announcement by former district attorney Mary Lacy came two years after Patsy Ramsey died of cancer. Lacy called the Ramseys “victims of this crime.” John Ramsey has continued to speak out for the case to be solved. In 2022, he supported an online petition asking Colorado’s governor to intervene in the investigation by putting an outside agency in charge of DNA testing in the case. In the Netflix documentary, he said he has been advocating for several items that have not been prepared for DNA testing to be tested and for other items to be retested. He said the results should be put through a genealogy database. In recent years, investigators have identified suspects in unsolved cases by comparing DNA profiles from crime scenes and to DNA testing results shared online by people researching their family trees. In 2021, police said in their annual update that DNA hadn’t been ruled out to help solve the case, and in 2022 noted that some evidence could be “consumed” if DNA testing is done on it. Last year, police said they convened a panel of outside experts to review the investigation to give recommendations and determine if updated technologies or forensic testing might produce new leads. In the latest update, Redfearn said that review had ended but that police continue to work through and evaluate a “lengthy list of recommendations” from the panel. ____ Amy Beth Hanson contributed to this report from Helena, Montana. At last week's Game Awards ceremony, developer SuperAuthenti debuted a teaser for its in-development open-world adventure cat game Catly , a video that was short on gameplay details and long on exceptionally cute cats with oversized, colorful eyes. After the trailer debuted, viewers—many of them game developers—began speculating that the game or the trailer are using generative AI technology. As internet sleuths dug through the business profiles of SuperAuthenti and its executives, some began to wonder if the game might also use blockchain technology. The company (like a cat) played coy at first, first telling Digital Trends it would share more details on the game in 2025. That seems to have changed. Today, a SuperAuthenti PR spokesperson told Game Developer that there is no generative AI in Catly or its teaser. Additionally, they said Catly is "not a blockchain game," and there are no non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or other blockchain currency affiliated with the product. "We did not use generative AI to produce the video and the game," the spokesperson said. "In fact we are very surprised by such speculation. We do not think there are any existing AI tools that could produce a video like that. Industry experts have echoed this opinion." SuperAuthenti shared a work-in-progress video of the Catly trailer with Game Developer, which contained a number of before-and-after shots showing the pre-rendered kitties bouncing around their playroom. The cat's models did not appear to contain telltale signs of generated 3D models (no unusual symmetry, no melded limbs, and no baked-in textures), and the environment also appeared to be created with traditional 3D animation. Some shots featured the cats rendered with full fur, others showed models implemented before fur animations were added. Related: How devs can spot AI-generated 3D models The cat models did appear to have been fully mapped and rigged before these clips were captured, but it otherwise didn't seem that different from other behind-the-scenes clips of CG animation . SuperAuthenti says any there isn't any blockchain technology in Catly As spotted by Digital Trends, Speculation over Catly 's possible use of blockchain tech was based on a possible connection to blockchain game developer TenthPlanet. TenthPlanet was "started" by William Wei Chen and colleague Kevin Yeung. Yeung is registered as the founder of SuperAuthenti. Animation and VFX news outlet 80 Level stated it reviewed documents saying SuperAuthenti is the sole shareholder of Shanghai Binmao Technology, which previously developed a blockchain-based "botanical and gardening experience." SuperAuthenti's spokesperson did not address these business connections, but did push back on the idea that Catly uses any blockchain technology. "Catly is not a blockchain game," the spokesperson said. "There are no NFTs. Our company/project has never issued any blockchain currency and any NFTs. Our company does not and has never owned any blockchain currency and NFTs." The spokesperson said that SuperAuthenti is "excited to reveal more about the game," and its own background in 2025.Longtime Melania Trump aide Haley Harrison has been promoted to be her chief of staff, the former first lady’s office announced on X Friday. “Mrs. Harrison has maintained an integral role and exceptional leadership on the First Lady’s team over the past seven years,” read the statement. “She has a strong understanding of White House operations, and as Chief of Staff, Mrs. Harrison will oversee and manage the East Wing’s team while strategically liaising with other parts of government.” Harrison was named in President-elect Donald Trump ’s indictment for mishandling of classified documents case, reported ABC News in 2023. Named as Trump Aide 1 in the case, Harrison texted another Trump aide about moving the classified documents out of the business center at Mar-a-Lago to make more room for staff to work. “There is still a little room in the shower where his other stuff is,” Harrison allegedly wrote to another staffer. Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is prosecuting Trump on the classified documents case, is expected to wind down the investigation before Trump takes office. Melania’s former chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, spoke at the Democratic National Convention in July and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Former Rep. Mike Rogers is no longer under consideration to lead the FBI, a senior Donald Trump adviser said Friday. “Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening—In his own words, ‘I have never even given it a thought.’ Not happening," Dan Scavino, who will serve as deputy chief of staff in the incoming administration, posted on X . Sources told Fox News that Rogers, who lost his Senate race in Michigan earlier this month, visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago to discuss leading the law enforcement agency. During his first administration, Trump appointed Christopher Wray for the 10-year term but has repeatedly criticized him since then and said on the campaign trail that he wants to fire Wray. Rogers, who once served as an FBI officer and was on the House Intelligence Committee for four years, was also floated for the job in 2016. Scouted selects products independently. Many modern-day consumers go to great lengths to reduce the ravages of aging—Botox, plastic surgery, weird vampire facials, you name it. And while some products do show promise of slowing down aging, nothing can reverse time. However, effective products like the FDA-cleared (and derm-approved) Omnilux Contour Face can help reduce wear and tear. When I first saw the Omnilux Contour Face , it terrified me. Not only does it look like a mask a serial killer might wear, but LED light therapy was something I had never heard of until recently, and, frankly, I was pretty skeptical of it. But as someone who tires of trying one-trick products that often don’t deliver on their sky-high promises, I wanted to see if the device actually lived up to its incredible reviews . Free Returns | Free Shipping While the mask is a bit cumbersome at first, once you get it fitted and light it up, the magic begins working over a quick 10-minute period. As recommended, I used the Omnilux Contour Face at least three times a week and up to five times a week and noticed a slightly more contoured jawline and general smoothness after about two weeks of consistent use. While $395 may seem like a lot for an at-home face mask, once I did the math, I realized I spend much more on facials, creams, and dermatologist visits over time, I figured splurging on this light therapy mask could potentially save me some money in my beauty-maintenance fund, and it’s much cheaper than injectables like Botox and filler and other in-office procedures. Fortunately, right now, you don’t have to pay full price. Omnilux is offering a sitewide sale ahead of Black Friday next week. According to the woman who brought the case against McGregor, the former fighter “brutally raped and battered” her in December 2018, leading to post-traumatic stress disorder and severe bruising. She also alleged in her testimony that McGregor put her in a chokehold several times during the encounter and threatened to kill her. The jury, which included eight women and four men, deliberated for around six hours in the High Court in Dublin, Ireland, before ultimately siding with her, reported Associated Press . Outside of the courthouse, the visibly shaken woman said she would now be able to move on with her life. In his testimony, McGregor alleged that the woman’s claims came after they had consensual sex. McGregor later took to X and said he’d be appealing the verdict. “The judge’s instruction and the modest award given was for assault, not for aggravated or exemplary damages,” McGregor said. “I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed.” I will be appealing today's decision. With the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical—starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—set to appear in theaters across the U.S. on Friday, the movie theater chain is planning to air a 30-second ad ahead of screenings that implores attendees not to belt out the show’s immensely catchy numbers, Vulture reported . And yes, that even includes “Popular.” Some attendees of early screenings for the flick told The New York Times they were put off by their fellow audience members’ blatant disregard for movie theater norms. “It started slow. Then people heard each other—it was like they encouraged each other,” attendee Angela Weir told the Times . “It was a beautiful scene, and then you’re taken out of it.” But those with the irresistible inclination to join Grande, Erivo, and the rest of the cast need not fret too much. About 1,000 North American cinemas will host special sing-along showings of Wicked beginning after Christmas, Variety reported earlier this week. A quality wig should make you feel confident. While Baby Boomers say a person has to earn around $100,000 a year to be “financially successful,” members of Generation Z say they would need to make almost six times that figure—$587,800—to fit the label, Axios reported based on a September survey by Empower. Gen Z is truly in a league of its own—Generation X put the figure at $212,300, while for Millennials it was a bit lower, at $180,900. Across all generations, the average was $270,200. Despite their lofty ideal of financial success, 71 percent of Gen Z still said they thought they would achieve financial success in their lifetime, which was more than any other generational group. Boomers, who reportedly control over half of all American wealth, could actually end up helping Gen Z achieve their goal. Over the next few decades, as much as $50 trillion could flow from the older generation to younger ones in the form of inheritances—although experts also warn that it could also end up being spent on health-care costs for the aging Boomers. Morning Joe star Mika Brzezinski announced Friday she’s leaving Twitter, encouraging her followers to listen to her appearance on The Daily Beast Podcast as she headed for the exit. “I’ve decided to leave X, but I’d love to keep the conversation going. Join me on BlueSky !” the MSNBC host wrote in her presumably final post on Elon Musk ’s platform. Brzezinski’s penultimate post promoted her Daily Beast Podcast episode, in which she spoke about why she visited Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago after his election victory. The personal visit, which Brzezinski made with her husband and co-host Joe Scarborough, set off a furious backlash —and an exodus of viewers —over what some saw as a capitulation to the president-elect after years of denouncing him. “We heard from many of you wanting to let us know that it was the right thing to do, our jobs,” Brzezinski said as she introduced the footage Friday. “We’ve also faced a lot of criticism about the meeting, largely from folks online.” On the podcast, Brzezinski told co-hosts Joanna Coles and Samantha Bee that one of the reasons she and Scarborough went to Mar-a-Lago is that “people are really scared about Donald Trump’s comments about political adversaries.” She added that while she doesn’t “regret anything” she said during the campaign, she is nevertheless “looking at how to do things differently.” “I would never turn down an opportunity to gain insight or information,” Brzezinski added. “Never.” Watch the full podcast interview below. Donald Trump will not be sentenced on his 34 fraud convictions anytime soon, a New York judge ruled Friday. With his court order, Judge Juan Merchan indefinitely postponed the hearing that was scheduled to take place next week, allowing Trump’s legal team time to submit their motions for dismissal of the hush money case by December 2. After that, the District Attorney’s office will have a week to deliver its response. On Tuesday, prosecutors signaled that they were fine to give Trump’s attorneys more time to get their argument together, but would oppose any attempts to toss the case. Still, given that Trump is about to assume ultimate pardon power, it now seems unlikely that any consequences will follow from the May conviction. “Just as a sitting President is completely immune from any criminal process,” Todd Blanche, a Trump lawyer poised to join his client’s Justice Department, argued to Merchan in a letter, per NBC , “so too is President Trump as President-elect.” Ariana Grande ’s boyfriend Ethan Slater says his girlfriend and her co-star Cynthia Erivo are “soul mates,” explaining why they cry so much on Wicked ’s press tour. Slater, who also appears in the film and began dating Grande during filming, told Today , “Their friendship is really real and really deep and really informed by the work that they did together.” That deep friendship results in lots of tears during interviews, which social media users have been hard at work turning into memes . “They’re both like, after a full day of junkets, ‘Well, we cried 100 times again. Everyone must be getting so annoyed,’” Slater said he hears from Grande and Erivo, “but I think it comes from a really genuine place.” Slater further explained that the movie stars are often moved to tears promoting the film because “they’re getting to talk about and getting to reflect on [their work and the resulting friendship] while they’re still in the midst of it.” Scouted selects products independently. Source: Legit.ngWASHINGTON D.C., DC — A top White House official on Wednesday said at least eight U.S. telecom firms and dozens of nations have been impacted by a Chinese hacking campaign. Deputy national security adviser Anne Neuberger offered new details about the breadth of the sprawling Chinese hacking campaign that gave officials in Beijing access to private texts and phone conversations of an unknown number of Americans. Neuberger divulged the scope of the hack a day after the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency issued guidance intended to help root out the hackers and prevent similar cyberespionage in the future. White House officials cautioned that the number of telecommunication firms and countries impacted could still grow. The U.S. believes that the hackers were able to gain access to communications of senior U.S. government officials and prominent political figures through the hack, Neuberger said. “We don’t believe any classified communications has been compromised,” Neuberger added during a call with reporters. She added that Biden has been briefed on the findings and that the White House “has made it a priority for the federal government to do everything it can to get to the bottom this.” The Chinese embassy in Washington on Tuesday rejected the accusations that it was responsible for the hack after the U.S. federal authorities issued new guidance. “The U.S. needs to stop its own cyberattacks against other countries and refrain from using cyber security to smear and slander China,” embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said. The embassy did not immediately respond to messages on Wednesday. White House officials believe that the hacking was regionally targeted and the focus was on very senior government officials. Federal authorities confirmed in October that hackers linked to China targeted the phones of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, along with people associated with Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. The number of countries impacted by the hack is currently believed to be in the “low, couple dozen,” according to a senior administration official. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity under ground rules set by the White House, said they believed the hacks started at least a year or two ago. The suggestions for telecom companies released Tuesday are largely technical in nature, urging encryption, centralization and consistent monitoring to deter cyber intrusions. If implemented, the security precautions could help disrupt the operation, which has been dubbed Salt Typhoon, and make it harder for China or any other nation to mount a similar attack in the future, experts say. Neuberger pointed to efforts that have been made to beef up cybersecurity in the rail, aviation, energy and other sectors following the May 2021 ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline . “So, to prevent ongoing Salt typhoon type intrusions by China, we believe we need to apply a similar minimum cybersecurity practice,” Neuberger said. The cyberattack by a gang of criminal hackers on the critical U.S. pipeline, which delivers about 45% of the fuel used along the Eastern Seaboard, sent ripple effects across the economy, highlighting cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the nation’s aging energy infrastructure. Colonial confirmed it paid $4.4 million to the gang of hackers who broke into its computer systems as it scrambled to get the nation's fuel pipeline back online. ___ Associated Press writer David Klepper contributed reporting.
Brazil Programmatic Ad Seller Quality Rankings Q3 2024: Pubpower Tops Pixalate’s Web Seller Trust Index; Verve No. 1 on MobileMANILA, Philippines — Broadcast journalist Atom Araullo won in the civil suit he filed against former anti-insurgency task force spokesperson Lorraine Badoy and confessed ex-communist rebel Jeffrey Celiz after being red-tagged as a member of the communist movement. “Red-tagging is, by itself, a manifestation of bad faith. By engaging in red-tagging, the defendants acted grossly and recklessly without regard for truth,” Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 306 Presiding Judge Dolly Rose Bolante-Prado said in a 27-page order dated Dec. 12, 2024. READ: Atom Araullo sues Badoy, Celiz for P2M over red tagging Pushback against Red-tagging The court ordered Badoy and Celiz to jointly and severally pay a total of P2.07 million for violating several provisions of the Civil Code. The award for damages was based on Articles 19, 20, 21, 26, and 33 of the New Civil Code, which protects an individual’s rights, human relations, and dignity, and a violation could lead to serious damage and injury to a person’s reputation, peace of mind, and personal relations. Araullo complained about defamatory statements by Badoy and Celiz against him and his family on national television and social media platforms. “I am doing this for the safety and well-being of my family, but I also hope it contributes a modest way to protecting press freedom in general,” Atom Araullo said when he filed the complaint. The broadcaster and his mother, Carol P. Araullo, chair emeritus of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan), have been the subject of a red-tagging spree by Badoy and Celiz since 2022 in their show Laban Kasama ng Bayan over Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI). Araullo was branded as a “spawn” of an active CPP central committee leader. He was also accused as an orchestrator of attacks against the government by stating that the documentaries/content he produced were aligned with the propaganda of the CPP-NPA. The court said engaging in red-tagging is a deliberate act to discredit and inflict harm on the broadcaster. “Their remarks were aimed at damaging the plaintiff’s reputation and credibility, both as a person and as a journalist, by associating him with the CPP-NPA-NDF without proof,” the court said. It added, “These labels and remarks went beyond mere editorial opinion or fair commentary and, worse, incited backlash, threats, and public hatred toward the plaintiff.” While it is true that Atom Araullo is a public figure, being a journalist and TV personality, the court said he is still protected by Article 26 by pointing out that his image and reputation are essential to his career. “Defendants’ wrongful actions have caused damage and injury to his dignity, personality, privacy, and peace of mind,” the court said. Regarding defamation, under Article 33 of the New Civil Code, specifically on malice, the court said Atom Araullo should not be burdened with the duty of proving malice when in the first place, Badoy and Celiz did not present evidence to prove their claims. Meanwhile, Celiz made a statement that called the court’s decision a “miscarriage of justice.” He said the court held them in default due to the one-day delay in submitting their pre-trial brief. “The regional trial court proceeded to have the hearings on this particular civil case without us being given the chance to present our evidence, our testimonies, and witnesses,” he said. .Celiz said this is just a temporary setback in their case against Atom Araullo, and they will file an appeal against the court’s decision.
Brendan Rodgers praises Celtic and Cameron Carter-Vickers’ mentalityA Lewiston man was arrested Thursday following a high-speed chase and hourslong manhunt after he fled on foot and was eventually tracked down by police using two police dogs, a drone equipped with thermal image detection, a game camera that snapped a photograph of him on the run, and numerous tips from residents who reported on his travels. Nicholas Derosby, 28, formerly of Waterville, was eventually found hiding under leaves next to a pond off North Main Street in North Monmouth, near Tex Tech Industries. Police found Derosby there after he was reported in the area by residents. Police used the Monmouth Police’s Facebook page to post a photograph of the suspect caught on a resident’s game camera, and residents responded by calling in sightings of him as he passed through their yards in different parts of town. Police alerted the community out of concern Derosby might try to break into homes or steal a car in the area. “I posted something on Facebook and we started getting calls, people seeing him in the area, so we kept following up on that,” said Monmouth Lt. Dana Wessling. “We were all over the place. We were really concerned, and citizens really did a fantastic job, that was helpful for us to start pinning him down to one area.” Wessling said a couple of days ago a Winthrop officer spotted a car making bad passes and driving erratically, but by the time the officer had turned around to pursue, the car had sped off. Police ran the license plate and discovered the car had an expired registration. They said the listed owner did not appear to be who was driving that day, but they suspected it may have been the owner’s son, Derosby. Thursday, around 11 a.m., police received reports of that same car on U.S. Route 202 heading from Winthrop toward Monmouth, again making bad passes and speeding. A Winthrop officer tried to catch up to the vehicle and Wessling came upon it on U.S. Route 202, turning around to pursue it. “I turned around on it and it took off at a high rate of speed, it shot off like a rocket down 202 passing cars, going in the breakdown lane ...” Wessling said. Speeds approached 111 mph, and the car turned onto Back Street, a side road, going an estimated 90 mph. Wessling said he slowed down to allow some distance between his cruiser and the car, but still followed its path. He said on Old Lewiston Road the driver of the car went airborne off a hill in the road, and appeared to have damaged the vehicle, allowing Wessling to catch up to it. The driver got out and fled on foot, past a residence, running through a field. A female passenger police said was with Derosby was taken into custody but later released, without being charged. Police believed the driver was Derosby who, Wessling said, was on probation and had a revoked driver’s license. He remained on the lam for several hours, despite police tracking dogs from Androscoggin and Kennebec county sheriff’s offices assisting in the search. Police also used a drone that shows thermal images, indicating where there could be a person on the ground below. Derosby was arrested Thursday evening on charges of eluding an officer, driving to endanger, violating conditions of release, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, operating after revocation, and operating with a suspended registration. With powerful figures including Donald Trump and Charles Schumer demanding answers, White House national security spokesman John Kirby attempted to confront the fury, beginning his remarks to reporters Monday by pointing to the proliferation of hobbyist drones over the sky. 'There are more than 1 million drones that are lawfully registered with the Federal Aviation Administration here in the United States, and there are thousands of commercial hobbyists and law enforcement drones that are lawfully in the sky on any given day,' Kirby told reporters. He said the FBI had received tips on 5,000 drone sightings in recent weeks of which 100 they 'felt needed to be followed up on.' Then Kirby pointed to the array of explanations over what U.S. officials believe to be in the skies, having looked at the various tips – even saying misidentified stars were part of the problem. 'We assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and even stars that were mistakenly reported as drones.' 'We have not identified anything anomalous or any national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace In New Jersey, or other states in the Northeast. The work continues.' 'But I want to stress again, our assessment at this stage is that the activity represents commercial, hobbyist law enforcement drones, all operating legally and lawful and or civilian aviation aircraft,' he underlined. National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby was under fire Friday for comments he made to address reports of drone sightings over New Jersey. He said there was no evidence of a 'national security or a public safety threat or have a foreign nexus' He cited federal 'resources and personnel' as supporting the efforts, including additional 'advanced detection technology' and trained observers. His comments came hours after Trump blasted the federal response as he made a comment, perhaps joking, that he was holding off on visiting his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course because of the situation. 'Something strange is going on,' Trump told reporters in response to a question about the drone sightings. 'For some reason, they don't want to tell the people.' 'They're very close to Bedminster. I think maybe I won't spend the weekend in Bedminster. I've decided to cancel my trip,' he said. Read More Chuck Schumer joins Democrats demanding info from Biden on the drones: 'What the heck is going on' Kirby's comments come days after New Jersey Republican state lawmakers blasted his prior response as 'idiotic' even as they were followed by new sightings at Naval Air Station Earle in New Jersey. Democratic lawmakers are demanding answers about the mysterious New Jersey drones that federal authorities and President Joe Biden have yet to explain. The bizarre unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) were first noticed hovering over New Jersey over a month ago, yet neither local or federal authorities have offered an explanation behind the lights that dash across the sky from dusk to dawn - notably disappearing during daylight. Biden has since tasked his agencies with finding out what is occurring over the Garden State, White House spokesman John Kirby said last week on Fox News . In the same interview Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, did not have an explanation to offer as to what was behind the UAPs, saying the president's men are still searching for answers. The Pentagon , FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have all been probing what is going on, and its of particular concern because these drones are flying over sensitive U.S. military instillations. Read More BREAKING NEWS Trump accuses government of hiding information on 'strange' drone frenzy As the unsettling sightings have racked the minds of residents living in the area with worry, the lawmakers representing these neighborhoods have been bombarded with questions. 'We're here today because it's not a bird, it's not a plane, it's a drone,' Senate Leader Chuck Schumer began a press conference over the weekend. 'And when it comes to drones, people in the New York area and all across the country have more questions than answers.' Schumer is the highest-ranking Democrat in politics outside of the White House, and his demands that the Pentagon, DHS and FBI provide answers are the weightiest yet outside of the executive branch. Biden has tasked his agencies with getting to the bottom of the New Jersey drone phenomenon, but so far lawmakers like Schumer and other Democrats are not satisfied with the odd lack of answers Schumer holding up a picture of a drone at a press conference over the weekend He raised concern that there have not been appropriate answers as to what is flying over NJ 'We've seen lots of recent, recent sightings in New York, New Jersey, Long Island, Staten Island,' he continued while holding up a picture of a drone-looking device pictured in a recent sighting. 'So it's remarkable with all these sightings over the last while, why do we have more questions than answers?' Speaking on Sunday Schumer pushed for methods to detect the drones. 'If the technology exists for a drone to make it up into the sky, there certainly is technology that can track the craft with precision and determine what the heck is going on.' He has announced an initiative to push for drone-detecting measures. Earlier in the weekend the New York Democrat floated the idea on X: 'I'm pushing for answers amid these drone sightings,' he said in the post. 'I'm calling for [DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas] to deploy special drone-detection tech across NY and NJ.' 'And I'm working to pass a bill in the Senate to give local law enforcement more tools for drone detection.' This photo provided by Brian Glenn shows what appears to be multiple drones flying over Bernardsville, N.J., on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024 In this image taken from video, what appears to be drones flying over Randolph, N.J., Dec. 4, 2024 Last week, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the agency does not know what the drones are, however she could say that DoD has 'no evidence' that the drones are 'the work of a foreign adversary .' On Monday New Jersey Democrat Rep. Mikie Sherrill mocked this explanation on CNBC. She accused authorities of telling the public, 'Don't worry, they're not a threat,' while also claiming, 'We don't know what they are,' an explanation that she found mind-boggling. 'It just both can't be true,' she added. 'We need somebody in charge.' A former helicopter pilot, Sherill suggested using U.S.-made reaper drones to surveil the devices to determine what they are - a plan similar to Schumer's. Read More Biden Administration reveals simple reason why there are so many drone sightings in New Jersey 'So quite frankly, I think why we're here and why I'm so frustrated is that talking point of 'they're just commercial aircraft, don't worry your pretty little head,'' she said speaking to the hosts. 'That doesn't work in New Jersey,' she lamented. New Jersey Democratic Senate-elect, Rep. Andy Kim, went to view the phenomena himself in-person days ago and was still left with questions after his visit despite being accompanied by local authorities. 'Any images or video footage people get, the police urge them to submit to the FBI, but I haven't gotten any follow up yet from the FBI on their investigation and what they've compiled,' he posted in a thread describing his experience. He was told that the UAPs could be the size of the hood of a car and they would disappear when approached by helicopter. 'This has gone on for weeks. It's hard to understand how with the technology we have we aren't able to track these devices to determine origin and this makes me much more concerned about our capabilities more broadly when it comes to drone detection and counter measures,' he concluded his 13-part account. Alejandro Mayorkas has said a new Federal Aviation Administration rule may be behind the deluge of drone sightings across New Jersey and the East Coast Monmouth County is home to the Naval Weapons Station Earle, a navy base. Experts have mused that foreign powers could be targeting areas like this which harbor intelligence and weapons bases. (Pictured: points of interest in NJ where drones have been seen overhead) 'I've concluded the possible drone sightings pointed out to me were almost certainly planes,' the Democrat wrote in a follow-up. Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill told DailyMail.com last week about the concerning drone saga has gone on too long without sufficient answers. Firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called it 'bulls***' that the Pentagon does not have answers despite the sightings having gone on for over a month. Speaker Mike Johnson received a private briefing on the matter from FBI, DoD and DHS, though he has not spoken about what they have said. Mayorkas said on X Sunday: 'To date, there is no known threat posed by these sightings. If a threat is identified, the federal government will address it and communicate with the American public about it.' 'There is no question that drones have been sighted. It is also true that many reported sightings have turned out to be piloted aircraft. The technology we have deployed to New Jersey has confirmed this,' he continued. Counter-attacking is key with the 5-2-1-2 formation in EAFC 25. Choose player roles wisely to fit the 5-2-1-2 formation for stability and effectiveness in both boxes. Meta stars such as Eduardo Camavinga and Josko Gvardiol can make the system come to life. In EA Sports FC 25 , every little helps. Taking an iconic marketing phrase from the UK, you have to tweak and adapt every minor feature to make sure that you can walk away with victory on a regular basis. Every feature is a small cog within the system; put it all together and you have a complete jigsaw. Therefore, tactics are crucial in EAFC 25, but you can't use what worked in previous iterations. Life was made more complicated by EA changing the system for this year's version, with instructions like 'get in behind' and 'stay back while attacking' removed, whilst the era of 'inverted full-backs' is only beginning. Knowing not everyone is capable of winning from the get-go, we have outlined the best 5-2-1-2 tactics. While it's not one of the best formations in the game , it can work effectively as it provides defensive security and can also lead to countless counter-attacks when your opposition is exposed. The 4-2-3-1 (2) can be incredibly effective in EA Sports FC 25 if set up correctly. We have outlined the best tactics for it. Tactics Build-up Style : Counter Defensive Approach: High/Height Line: 70 With this system changed for this year's game, there's no need to overcomplicate anything. That's hard to do when the features have been simplified, as you can't change your width or type of chance creation; now it's just two things – build-up style and defensive approach. For build-up style, you can choose from 'balanced', 'counter' and 'short passes'. You should use the 'counter' option for the 5-2-1-2. This approach encourages players to get in behind the opposition's defence as the team transitions quickly from defence to attack. With quick forward runs, you can always expect opportunities after sitting deep. It's the traditional option for a five-at-the-back formation. However, after following conventions, you should then flip the switch. Using a high line sounds contradictory considering most sit deep and defend for their lives, but it makes your team more compact further up the pitch. Meanwhile, with the finest defenders in the world , you will be able to clear the danger effortlessly. The positives outweigh the negatives, even if you might occasionally be caught behind. Player Roles In EAFC 25, players now 'change' position in and out of possession depending on their roles. As such, it's important to fine-tune tactics depending on the players you are using. We have outlined the simplest – and most effective – 5-2-1-2 tactics, but minor tweaks are suggested. Goalkeeper: Defending, Keeper Left-Back: Attacking Wing-Back, Attack Centre-Backs: Defender, Defend Right-Back: Attacking Wing-Back, Attack Left Central-Midfielder: Box-to-Box, Balanced Right Central-Midfielder: Holding, Defend Attacking Midfielder: Playmaker, Roaming Left Striker: Advanced Forward, Attack Right Striker: False Nine, Build-Up The 4-2-1-3 is one of the best formations in EA Sports FC 25. We have outlined every detail – big and small – you need to know about it. To begin, building a football team is like putting together a plethora of building blocks. Some are more important than others, and the whole structure will collapse if they are not fitted correctly. The goalkeeper is exactly this, propping up the rest of the team with their consistency and reliability. Using a goalkeeper on 'defend' in EAFC 25 fits this description, as they will always stay between the sticks unless they are called upon at the last minute. Continuing the idea of stability and security, all three centre-backs should be set to the 'defender' and 'defend' roles. While you can still play out from the back with them – if you take control – their main priority is always defending. They maintain the defensive line and never leave their main position. The quickest centre-backs in EAFC 25 should always be considered. The 5-2-1-2 actually uses two full-backs instead of wing-backs, but they still provide an attacking threat. Using both as 'attacking wing-backs' on 'attack' will give you two extra threats in the final third. Though officially defenders, they will be more concerned with getting forward and offering width to your team's attacks. While that can seem risky, it works when you always have three centre-backs at the back. Further forward, the 5-2-1-2 tries to find the balance between dictating the tempo of the match. The two central midfielders prop up the middle of the park, with one on 'holding' and 'defend' and another on 'box-to-box' and 'balanced'. The holding midfielder is seen as a pivotal role, as they guard the backline and cover against counter-attacks. However, with the 'defend' roles, they still move slightly higher to offer a passing option. Alongside them, the 'box-to-box' midfielder on 'balanced' operates between the two boxes, neither as the last line of defence, nor the final part of the attack, but involved in everything in between. When asked to be 'balanced', they will cover the centre of the pitch in attack and defence. The best central midfielders in EAFC 25 will shine with this because they can defend comfortably but also find the back of the net effortlessly. If they struggle, it's likely the whole team will. Completing the midfield trio, using an attacking midfielder on 'playmaker' and 'roaming' will allow you to always have a creative outlet. They are the fulcrum when pinging passes into the final third, as they are given license to roam, create space and shine. The only downside is that they might be out of position if the opposition counters, but they will always have the support of players behind them. Finally, using two strikers in the 5-2-1-2 provides you with versatility. There are countless options to choose from – all providing differing levels of tactical nuance – but we recommend using an 'advanced forward' on 'attack' and a 'false nine' in the final third. The advanced forward will be the main star in the opposition's box. They stay close to their defensive line whilst also opening themselves up for passes in the build-up. Combined with making runs behind, they can do nearly everything and it all comes under one sole purpose – scoring goals. The best strikers in EAFC 25 will shine under this role. To partner the advanced forward, using a false nine is effective. While positioned in the forward line, they will drop deep to dictate play in the space in front of a defence. It allows them to contribute not only to work in the final third but also in the defensive phases of the match. They partner with the advanced playmaker as well, providing you with two creative fulcrums as you look to consistently win in the hardest competitions . The 4-5-1 (2) has now always been popular in previous games, but in EA Sports FC 25, it can be considered a 'meta' formation if used correctly. Players to Use We have already ranked the most meta players in EA Sports FC 25 . However, we haven't stopped there, also looking at the most overpowered centre-backs and meta wingers . While that means we have covered nearly everything you need to build the most meta team, we have also outlined a few specific players who will excel in the 5-2-1-2. Using the highest-rated stars in EAFC 25 is cheating as well. In your defensive third, there's one stat which is crucial — pace. When you're playing a high line, you need defenders who can chase back and produce a stunning – often bold – tackle. There's only one name that springs to mind when you try and match that description. Micky van de Ven, Tottenham's star Dutchman, is world-class in EAFC 25. Alongside him, someone like Josko Gvardiol – or even his teammate, Manuel Akanji – will work effectively. While they might not be as quick, they will still fit in seamlessly. As previously mentioned, your midfielders need to be able to do everything in this formation. From last-minute defending and dictating the tempo to providing a goal-scoring threat and picking out teammates in the final third, they have pressure placed on their shoulders. However, stars such as Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente and Real Madrid sensation Eduardo Camavinga will be able to match the requirements. They are not only cheap but also well-rounded so they can adapt to every situation required. Finally, with two strikers in the 5-2-1-2, you have several options to choose from. You don't necessarily need both to be quick – so someone like Harry Kane could work – but if you're looking for cheaper and lower-rated stars, Ademola Lookman and Inaki Williams are the go-to options. Playing for Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao respectively, they are quick and natural in the final third.Unwrap the latest AI features with Amazon Fire TabletsOscar Fairs from Benfleet, Essex, was diagnosed with a rare 7cm ependymoma brain tumour in August 2023 and underwent seven surgeries, one round of chemotherapy and one round of radiotherapy to be told palliative care was the only option. Harris campaign chiefs give pathetic excuses for blowing $1 billion to lose electionLONDON (AP) — A woman who claimed mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her in a Dublin hotel penthouse was awarded nearly 250,000 Euros ($257,000) on Friday by a civil court jury in Ireland. Nikita Hand said the Dec. 9, 2018, assault after a night of partying left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor testified that he never forced the woman to do anything against her will and said she fabricated the allegations after the two had consensual sex. His lawyer had called Hand a gold digger. The fighter, once the face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship but now past his prime, shook his head as the jury of eight women and four men returned the verdict after deliberating for about six hours in the High Court in Dublin. He was mobbed by cameras as he left court but did not comment. He later said on the social platform X that he would appeal the verdict and the “modest award.” Hand's voice cracked and her hands trembled as she read a statement outside the courthouse, saying she would never forget what happened to her but would now be able to move on with her life. She thanked her family, partner, friends, jurors, the judge and all the supporters that had reached out to her online, but particularly her daughter. “She has given me so much strength and courage over the last six years throughout this nightmare to keep on pushing forward for justice,” she said. “I want to show (her) and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you, no matter who the person is, and justice will be served.” The Associated Press generally does not name victims of sexual assaults unless they come forward publicly, as Hand has done. Under Irish law, she did not have the anonymity she would have been granted in a criminal proceeding and was named publicly throughout the trial. Her lawyer told jurors that McGregor was angry about a fight he had lost in Las Vegas two months earlier and took it out on his client. “He’s not a man, he’s a coward,” attorney John Gordon said in his closing speech. “A devious coward and you should treat him for what he is.” Gordon said his client never pretended to be a saint and was only looking to have fun when she sent McGregor a message through Instagram after attending a Christmas party. He said Hand knew McGregor socially and that they had grown up in the same area. She said he picked her and a friend up in a car and shared cocaine with them, which McGregor admitted in court, on the way to the Beacon Hotel. Hand said she told McGregor she didn't want to have sex with him and that she was menstruating. She said she told him “no” as he started kissing her but he eventually pinned her to a bed and she couldn't move. McGregor put her in a chokehold and later told her, “now you know how I felt in the octagon where I tapped out three times,” referring to a UFC match when he had to admit defeat, she said. Hand had to take several breaks in emotional testimony over three days. She said McGregor threatened to kill her during the encounter and she feared she would never see her young daughter again. Eventually, he let go of her. “I remember saying I was sorry, as I felt that I did something wrong and I wanted to reassure him that I wouldn’t tell anyone so he wouldn’t hurt me again,” she testified. She said she then let him do what he wanted and he had sex with her. A paramedic who examined Hand the next day testified that she had never before seen someone with that intensity of bruising. A doctor told jurors Hand had multiple injuries. Hand said the trauma of the attack had left her unable to work as a hairdresser, she fell behind on her mortgage and had to move out of her house. Police investigated the woman’s complaint but prosecutors declined to bring charges, saying there was insufficient evidence and a conviction was unlikely. McGregor, in his post on X, said he was disappointed jurors didn't see all the evidence prosecutors had reviewed. He testified that the two had athletic and vigorous sex, but that it was not rough. He said “she never said ‘no’ or stopped” and testified that everything she said was a lie. “It is a full blown lie among many lies,” he said when asked about the chokehold allegation. “How anyone could believe that me, as a prideful person, would highlight my shortcomings.” McGregor’s lawyer told jurors they had to set aside their animus toward the fighter. “You may have an active dislike of him, some of you may even loathe him – there is no point pretending that the situation might be otherwise,” attorney Remy Farrell said. “I’m not asking you to invite him to Sunday brunch.” The defense said the woman never told investigators McGregor threatened her life. They also showed surveillance video in court that they said appeared to show the woman kiss McGregor’s arm and hug him after they left the hotel room. Farrell said she looked “happy, happy, happy.” McGregor said he was “beyond petrified” when first questioned by police and read them a prepared statement. On the advice of his lawyer, he refused to answer more than 100 follow-up questions. The jury ruled against Hand in a case she brought against one of McGregor’s friends, James Lawrence, whom she accused of having sex with her in the hotel without consent.McDonald’s Gets Into the Holiday Spirit with a Happy Meal Featuring Two Toys

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was a full participant in Friday’s practice and has no injury designation for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . On the other hand, rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey was once again a limited participant and will be questionable (knee/shoulder injuries) for Week 15. Advertisement Herbert missed practice Wednesday with a sprained left ankle and left thigh contusion. He was upgraded to a limited participant Thursday before practicing in full Friday. Both of those injuries were suffered in the team’s Week 14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs . He missed only one play in the game, but later acknowledged that the injuries limited the Chargers playcalling. GO DEEPER How Chargers' Quentin Johnston turned a drop into growth: 'That is you, so run with it' Coach Jim Harbaugh said Herbert had “a good week” and has “the strength of 10 men.” He added that he thought Herbert played well in the second half of the Chiefs game and that he believes his quarterback is “in an even better place than the second half against the Chiefs today.” For Herbert, these are just the latest ailments in what has been an injury-riddled season. He missed three weeks of training camp with a plantar fascia injury and sustained the right high ankle sprain in a Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers . Herbert finished that game but was in a walking boot in the locker room afterward. Herbert started the next week at the Pittsburgh Steelers , but was knocked out of the game in the third quarter after taking a hit. Herbert started the following week at the Chiefs, but he was far from 100 percent. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman said last week that Herbert “could barely move” in that game. On Wednesday, Herbert said this ankle injury is “probably not as severe” as the sprain he previously had. Over the past few weeks, Herbert has been wearing a sleeve on his left leg. He said that he has been dealing with swelling in his left knee, which he called a “separate injury” from the ankle sprain and thigh contusion. This season, Herbert has thrown for 2,764 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception. He has the Chargers positioned for a wild card spot as they hold a two-game advantage over the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts with four weeks left. Advertisement McConkey was inactive in Week 14 with knee and shoulder injuries. He has been a limited participant all week in practice — similar to last week. The Chargers’ second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft was initially injured in the team’s Week 13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons The Georgia product has emerged as Herbert’s go-to-target as he holds the team lead in receptions (58), receiving yards (815), yards after catch (262), receiving first downs (38) and plays of 20 yards or more (10). In 12 games, he has added four touchdowns. Required reading (Photo: Ronald Martinez / Getty Images)Reports: Justin Ishbia, brother of Suns owner Mat, plans bid to purchase Twins
