Divisive Rhetoric On Religion Harms Constitutional Unity: Supreme Court JudgeNEW ORLEANS (AP) — Darren Rizzi would be an unconventional choice to take over the New Orleans Saints' head coaching job on a permanent basis. That doesn't mean it can't happen. The Saints (4-7) had been on a seven-game skid when Rizzi, the club's special teams coordinator, was promoted. They've since won two straight, and as the club entered its Week 12 bye, prominent players were already discussing their desire to continue improving Rizzi's resume. “He’s definitely had an impact on our football team,” quarterback Derek Carr said after New Orleans' 35-14 victory over Cleveland last weekend. “We want to keep winning so that maybe he gets a chance to be the coach here for a long time. “That’s what we want as players,” Carr continued. "Hopefully, we can continue to have success, keep winning and give him that opportunity.” Before the Saints' demoralizing defeat at Carolina precipitated the firing of third-year coach Dennis Allen , Rizzi had never been a head coach at the NFL or major college level. The north New Jersey native and former Rhode Island tight end got his first head coaching job at Division II New Haven in 1999. He also coached his alma mater in 2008 before moving to the NFL with Miami in 2009 as a special teams assistant. By 2010, he was the Dolphins' special teams coordinator and added the title of associate head coach in 2017 before ex-Saints coach Sean Payton lured him to New Orleans in 2019. A common thread shared by Payton and Rizzi is that both worked under Bill Parcells. Parcells — known best for winning two Super Bowls as coach of the New York Giants — was coaching the Dallas Cowboys when Payton was his offensive coordinator. Rizzi, who grew up a Giants fan during the Parcells era, got to know his childhood idol during his first couple years in Miami, where Parcells executive vice president of football operations. Since his promotion, Rizzi has spoken to both Payton and Parcells. And he has begun to employ motivational techniques reminiscent of Payton, who left New Orleans in 2022 as the franchise leader in wins (152 in the regular season and nine in the postseason — including New Orleans' lone Super Bowl triumph). Payton as a big believer of symbolic imagery and motivational props, from baseball bats distributed before contests that were expected to be especially physical to gas cans left in the lockers of aging veterans whose performance was key to the club's success. Rizzi, who describes himself as a “blue collar” guy, has his own spin on such things. He began his tenure by asking players to accept individual responsibility for the metaphorical hole the team had dug itself and asked them all to embrace the idea of filling it up — one shovelful at a time. He even has brought a shovel — as well as a hammer, tape measure, level and other construction tools — to team meetings to help make his points. Saints tight end Taysom Hill, who also plays on special teams, has gotten to know Rizzi well during a half-decade of working together. Hill doesn't sound surprised to see Rizzi's combination of work ethic, enthusiasm and personal touch resonating across the entire team now. He also made a lot of changes , from weekly schedule adjustments to reconfiguring players' lockers by position. “He has a really good pulse on what we need collectively as a team to get ready for a football game," said Hill, who scored three touchdowns and accounted for 248 yards as a runner, receiver, passer and returner against Cleveland. “Guys have responded to that.” Because Rizzi's first victory came over the first-place Atlanta Falcons , and because the Falcons lost again last week, the Saints now trail Atlanta by just two games with six to play. Suddenly, the idea of the Saints playing meaningful football down the stretch is not so far-fetched. “We’re starting to get our swag back, and that makes me happy,” Rizzi said. ”We’re going to have some downtime now to kind of press the reset button again and see if we can make a push here." When the Saints return to action at home against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec 1, they'll do so with a level of momentum and positivity that seemed to steadily drain out of the club between their first loss of the season in Week 3 through the six straight setbacks that followed. While Saints players have tended to blame themselves for Allen's demise, they've been quick to credit Rizzi for the turnaround. “He’s pointed us and steered the ship in the right direction,” Carr said. “Hopefully, we can just keep executing at a high level for him, because we love him.” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Thomas Friedman: How Elon Musk and Taylor Swift can resolve U.S.-China relations

Thursday, December 19, 2024 Tampa International Airport marked a significant milestone on Wednesday as officials, along with business and community leaders, celebrated the groundbreaking of Airside D, the airport’s first new terminal in nearly two decades. Standing on the expansive airfield, where flags outlined the future terminal’s footprint, attendees were given a glimpse of Airside D’s potential to support the region’s rapid growth and the expected surge in passengers and flights. “This state-of-the-art Airside will help us continue our tradition of staying ahead of trends by adding 16 gates for both domestic and international flights at TPA,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said. “It will also feature the latest technology for our passengers when it opens in 2028. We’re going to do it the Tampa way.” Lopano was joined by prominent leaders integral to the project, including Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue, Tampa Mayor and Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board Member Jane Castor, TPA’s Executive Vice President of Planning, Development, and Maintenance Smitha Radhakrishnan, and Hensel Phelps Southeast Regional Vice President Justin Starnes. “The state of Florida has a nationally renowned, world-class transportation system and it’s because of partners like the TPA that we can truly say that,” Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue said . “Airside D is a shining example of how we lead in infrastructure and continue to build world-class facilities that support the growth of the state of Florida.” The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Airside took place on the airfield where the facility will be constructed, located northwest of TPA’s Main Terminal. This site was previously home to the original Airside D, which debuted with the airport in 1971. The outdated facility was decommissioned and demolished in 2007, and the space has since been utilized for overnight aircraft parking. Guests at the event enjoyed a lively flash mob performance to kick off the ceremony. They also had the opportunity to view a scale model of the future Airside and explore its design through a virtual reality station set up in the event tent. “This day is a monumental day not just for the city of Tampa, but for the entire Tampa Bay region,” Tampa Mayor and Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board Member Jane Castor said . “TPA is such a jewel in the crown of the Tampa Bay area, and it is something that every single traveler gets to experience.” Airside D will feature two levels and a mezzanine, including two airline lounges, a bright and open international arrivals processing area on the ground floor, glass boarding bridges offering stunning views of the airfield, and a variety of new shopping and dining experiences. As the centerpiece of Phase 3 of Tampa International Airport’s Master Plan, this project is designed to meet the demands of increasing traveler numbers. Currently serving around 25 million passengers annually, the new Airside D will position TPA to accommodate up to 35 million passengers each year by 2037. ”Make no mistake, this Airside will be all about the passenger journey and we are going to make it magnificent,” said Smitha Radhakrishnan, TPA’s Executive Vice President of Planning & Development and Maintenance. “As this project progresses, there are going to be several opportunities for small and disadvantaged businesses to be part of this project, and that is a priority for TPA.” Spanning approximately 600,000 square feet, Airside D will be the largest terminal at Tampa International Airport upon its completion. The project, with an estimated cost of $1.5 billion, is slated to open to the public in 2028. Recent renderings unveiled earlier this month showcased Airside D at the 30% design phase. These visuals were developed by the project’s design-build team, led by construction firm Hensel Phelps in collaboration with architecture and engineering company HNTB Corporation and design partner Gensler. The final design is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. “Airside D is something that Hensel Phelps, HNTB, Gensler are all very passionate about and proud of, and we really hope that the entire Tampa Bay area will be as enthusiastic and support the new Airside D as much as they have the existing airport here today,” Hensel Phelps Southeast Region Vice President Justin Starnes said . A $91 million enabling contract, approved by the HCAA Board during its December meeting, will kickstart onsite work at TPA. This initial phase includes installing security fencing around the future Airside’s perimeter, removing concrete, setting up contractor offices, and conducting utility work, among other preparatory tasks.

President Jimmy Carter may have only had one term in the White House, but he remained a familiar figure on the world stage long after clearing his desk at the Oval Office. Despite a resounding defeat at the hands of Ronald Reagan in 1980, the Democrat forged a new path promoting causes such as electoral probity abroad, social justice and drives to rid the world of medical conditions. His first foreign visit as president was to the UK where then prime minister James Callaghan, as well as the usual visits in London, took his guest to the North East with a visit to Newcastle, Sunderland and Washington – the village bearing the name of the first ever president. Mr Carter delighted crowds in the North East by saying “Howay the lads” during a speech to the assembled throng. He also received a miner’s lamp from 12-year-old Ian McEree in Washington. The 39th US president also carried out more traditional presidential duties, including meetings with western European leaders during his time in London while the Cold War was still ongoing. The practising Baptist continued his globetrotting ways after leaving power, even without Air Force One as his vehicle. He was also part of the Elders, a group of experienced statesmen and women drawn from all corners of the world.( MENAFN - PR Newswire) SAN DIEGO and BEIJING, Dec. 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- TuSimple Holdings Inc. (OTCMKTS: TSPH) ("TuSimple" or the "Company"), a global leader in artificial intelligence technology, today announced its official rebranding to CreateAI and major advancements in its new strategic initiatives. CreateAI showed significant progress in generative AI research with the debut of its first major AI model, named "Ruyi". The model, available open source on AI community "Hugging Face", excels in frame consistency, motion fluency, color and composition quality. The decision to adopt an open-source model stems from CreateAI's commitment to empower creators and foster a vibrant user ecosystem. This marks the unveiling of a cohesive world of heroes, moving beyond individual stories, and serving as a starting point for the creation of new original martial arts works. A preview event took place on December 14 in Guangzhou, China, garnering strong interest from fans and cementing its place as one of the most anticipated "AAA" games to be released. "We are proud of the achievements we've made in the short amount of time since entering into the field," said Cheng Lu, President and CEO of CreateAI. "We are confident that our integrated approach at the intersection of generative AI and digital entertainment creation is a differentiating factor, one that provides significant long-term growth opportunities." Additionally, CreateAI has unveiled its latest business plan, showcasing the immense commercial value derived from today's transformation and the industry's total addressable market. The plan also outlines the historical industry challenges addressed by the company, technology milestones, commercialization pathways, and cohesive management team. It also emphasizes how the Company's integrated strategy forms a flywheel effect in AI development, ultimately leading to long-term sustainable competitive advantage.
