3DBIOLABS ACHIEVES PIVOTAL MILESTONE IN DEVELOPMENT OF 3D PRINTED LIVER IMPLANTWEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- An online spat between factions of Donald Trump's supporters over immigration and the tech industry has thrown internal divisions in his political movement into public display, previewing the fissures and contradictory views his coalition could bring to the White House. The rift laid bare the tensions between the newest flank of Trump's movement — wealthy members of the tech world including billionaire Elon Musk and fellow entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and their call for more highly skilled workers in their industry — and people in Trump's Make America Great Again base who championed his hardline immigration policies. The debate touched off this week when Laura Loomer , a right-wing provocateur with a history of racist and conspiratorial comments, criticized Trump’s selection of Sriram Krishnan as an adviser on artificial intelligence policy in his coming administration. Krishnan favors the ability to bring more skilled immigrants into the U.S. Loomer declared the stance to be “not America First policy” and said the tech executives who have aligned themselves with Trump were doing so to enrich themselves. Much of the debate played out on the social media network X, which Musk owns. Loomer's comments sparked a back-and-forth with venture capitalist and former PayPal executive David Sacks , whom Trump has tapped to be the “White House A.I. & Crypto Czar." Musk and Ramaswamy, whom Trump has tasked with finding ways to cut the federal government , weighed in, defending the tech industry's need to bring in foreign workers. It bloomed into a larger debate with more figures from the hard-right weighing in about the need to hire U.S. workers, whether values in American culture can produce the best engineers, free speech on the internet, the newfound influence tech figures have in Trump's world and what his political movement stands for. Trump has not yet weighed in on the rift. His presidential transition team did not respond to questions about positions on visas for highly skilled workers or the debate between his supporters online. Instead, his team instead sent a link to a post on X by longtime adviser and immigration hard-liner Stephen Miller that was a transcript of a speech Trump gave in 2020 at Mount Rushmore in which he praised figures and moments from American history. Musk, the world's richest man who has grown remarkably close to the president-elect , was a central figure in the debate, not only for his stature in Trump's movement but his stance on the tech industry's hiring of foreign workers. Technology companies say H-1B visas for skilled workers, used by software engineers and others in the tech industry, are critical for hard-to-fill positions. But critics have said they undercut U.S. citizens who could take those jobs. Some on the right have called for the program to be eliminated, not expanded. Born in South Africa, Musk was once on an a H-1B visa himself and defended the industry's need to bring in foreign workers. “There is a permanent shortage of excellent engineering talent," he said in a post. “It is the fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley.” Trump's own positions over the years have reflected the divide in his movement. His tough immigration policies, including his pledge for a mass deportation, were central to his winning presidential campaign. He has focused on immigrants who come into the U.S. illegally but he has also sought curbs on legal immigration , including family-based visas. As a presidential candidate in 2016, Trump called the H-1B visa program “very bad” and “unfair” for U.S. workers. After he became president, Trump in 2017 issued a “Buy American and Hire American” executive order , which directed Cabinet members to suggest changes to ensure H-1B visas were awarded to the highest-paid or most-skilled applicants to protect American workers. Trump's businesses, however, have hired foreign workers, including waiters and cooks at his Mar-a-Lago club , and his social media company behind his Truth Social app has used the the H-1B program for highly skilled workers. During his 2024 campaign for president, as he made immigration his signature issue, Trump said immigrants in the country illegally are “poisoning the blood of our country" and promised to carry out the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. But in a sharp departure from his usual alarmist message around immigration generally, Trump told a podcast this year that he wants to give automatic green cards to foreign students who graduate from U.S. colleges. “I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country," he told the “All-In" podcast with people from the venture capital and technology world. Those comments came on the cusp of Trump's budding alliance with tech industry figures, but he did not make the idea a regular part of his campaign message or detail any plans to pursue such changes.

By HALELUYA HADERO, Associated Press President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Friday to pause the potential TikTok ban from going into effect until his administration can pursue a “political resolution” to the issue. The request came as TikTok and the Biden administration filed opposing briefs to the court, in which the company argued the court should strike down a law that could ban the platform by Jan. 19 while the government emphasized its position that the statute is needed to eliminate a national security risk. “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case,” said Trump’s amicus brief, which supported neither party in the case. The filings come ahead of oral arguments scheduled for Jan. 10 on whether the law, which requires TikTok to divest from its China-based parent company or face a ban, unlawfully restricts speech in violation of the First Amendment. Earlier this month, a panel of three federal judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit unanimously upheld the statute , leading TikTok to appeal the case to the Supreme Court. The brief from Trump said he opposes banning TikTok at this junction and “seeks the ability to resolve the issues at hand through political means once he takes office.”

The long-anticipated movie adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical hit theaters on Friday, and it has already earned a record-breaking $114 million at the US box office. Millions flocked to the cinema over the weekend to watch the Wizard of Oz prequel - which stars Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. One woman shared a snap of the glasses laying on her bed, which she captioned, 'My Elphie glasses came in time [to see the movie].' Another posted a photo of herself wearing them and wrote, 'If you have nothing else to make you smile this week, at least let me help in my Elphaba glasses, team Wicked Witch shirt, and Glinda crown/wand.' (Bloomberg) — Libya’s oil production has risen to the highest daily level in more than a decade, just months after a political crisis slashed the country’s output. Crude and condensate production hit 1.422 million barrels on Thursday, the National Oil Corp. said in a post on X. That exceeds the state oil-firm’s target by 22,000 barrels. It’s also the highest daily volume since 2013, according to the NOC. The surge marks a stunning turnaround for Libya’s oil industry this year. In August, a feud between the country’s rival eastern and western governments halved output, stoking fears of a renewed war. The two sides resolved their dispute a month later. The North African country is now planning its first tender for energy exploration since the 2011 civil war that ousted leader Moammar Al Qaddafi. Italy’s Eni Spa and BP Plc resumed drilling last month, ending a pause in place since 2014. Libya, home to the Africa’s largest oil reserves, in November boosted crude output to 1.14 million barrels a day, providing a sense of the nation’s oil rebound. The ramp-up would help bring foreign currency into the country, after seesawing production in recent years — largely the result of unrest — limited revenues. Power struggles have compounded years of neglect in developing or revamping the oil infrastructure. Still, the increase comes at a tricky time for the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, of which Libya is a member. The producer group and its allies on Thursday delayed a revival of its production for three months, amid faltering demand in China and booming supplies from the Americas. While Libya is exempt from the OPEC+ system of production caps, its production feeds into the group’s performance, adding to global supplies.FEV and ProLogium develop high-performance vehicle batteryIndigenized Energy Names Lorilee J. While the 49ers' 2024 NFL season is far from over, some outside the organization already have begun looking ahead to the team's offseason. Maybe for good reason, but with six weeks remaining in the regular season and San Francisco just one game out of first place in the NFC West, there still is , albeit a difficult one. However, The Volume's Colin Cowherd has seen enough and declared on the latest episode of "The Colin Cowherd Podcast" that the 49ers need a franchise reboot in the offseason after its on Sunday at Lambeau Field. “49ers need a reboot” & discuss the state of the 49ers after loss to Packers — The Volume (@TheVolumeSports) "San Francisco is like an old boxer. Last year, hanging on, had one last good fight," Cowherd told co-host John Middlekauff. "Stop drafting receivers, rebuild the O-lines and D-lines, [Nick] Bosa's hurt, [George] Kittle's hurt, [Christian] McCaffrey's hurt. I think San Francisco has to hyper-aggressively reboot the franchise." Cowherd's criticism of the 49ers' draft strategy and his belief that the organization needs to reinforce the trenches certainly is fair, but he did not specify what a "hyper-aggressive reboot" entails. Would that require the firings of coach Kyle Shanahan and/or president of football operations John Lynch? Or perhaps trading or cutting certain star players? It remains to be seen what the 49ers might do in the offseason, but with the playoffs still within reach and the return of key players possibly right around the corner, the topic of a franchise reboot, at least within the organization, likely is a discussion for a different day. These fast food brands don’t use ‘real eggs’ in their breakfasts, report says

Mayor Cherelle Parker’s administration has launched a new tool designed to demonstrate progress made on some key promises she made while on the campaign trail. Categories for Philly Stat 360 are broken down into safer , cleaner , greener , economic opportunity and core services , echoing Parker’s mantra of a “safer, cleaner, greener city with economic opportunity for all.” “We’re going to tell you about our progress, and some things we will be doing well, some things we need to do better at and some things we may not be doing well at all,” Parker said. “But we need to empower the tool of transparency .” Parker said fellow mayors were spending a lot of money hiring outside consultants to do the job, while the city of Philadelphia hired its own experts to save money and still have quality control over the site. Kristin Bray heads Philly Stat 360. She believes the website is easy for anyone to navigate . Parker herself admits she’s not much of a computer wiz, calling herself a “dinosaur” when it comes to technology. “Philly Stat 360 will make all city services more interactive, more transparent and more accessible to all Philadelphians, giving them a government that they can see, touch and feel,” Bray said. “This is a major step forward in connecting Philadelphians with their government in a meaningful and direct way.” Weekend violence in Philly leaves 4 people dead, 20 others injured Philadelphia police said they plan to increase law enforcement’s presence outside City Hall in the wake of a triple shooting in Dilworth Park. 1 day ago The site has already been recognized by the Biden administration for its effort to promote transparency in the delivery of government services. Parker said it is a way of “demystifying government” and eliminating what she called “hook-up culture,” where people need inside connections to access free city services on a priority basis. “You usually have to know somebody, who knows somebody, who knows somebody to get connected to these services that are free and readily open and available to the public,” she said. “So, this effort helps to demystify government and it tells the public what we want to do, why we do it, how we do it and how they can be a part of it.” Parker added the goal is to show people the good and the bad of city government and keep departments accountable. Dozens rally, call for Mayor Cherelle Parker to reaffirm Philly’s sanctuary city protections In the face of President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations, advocates are rallying support for immigrant communities in Philadelphia. 7 days ago Get daily updates from WHYY News!
