646jili Neal Maupay: Whenever I’m having a bad day I check Everton score and smileNEW YORK, Dec. 03, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Results from the 2024 Travelers Risk Index highlight a concerning increase in distracted driving, with many risky behaviors surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Recently, Jessica Kearney and Ginny Brzezinski from the Travelers Institute, along with Ryan McMahon from Cambridge Mobile Telematics, partnered with D S Simon Media on a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss the dangers of distracted driving, tips to navigate the holidays, and the growing use of telematics to offer solutions. Millions of Americans will be hitting the road this holiday season, and with that comes a rise in distracted driving. While traffic fatalities decreased by 4% last year to 44,450, distracted driving remains a growing issue. According to the 2024 Travelers Risk Index, 78% of consumers believe distracted driving is worse now than a few years ago, with many drivers admitting to risky behaviors: close to 60% are reading texts or emails while driving; 26% are updating or checking social media; and 24% are taking photos or videos. Young drivers, particularly Gen Z, are especially at risk. Compared to overall averages, drivers ages 16-20 engage in some hazardous driving behaviors more frequently, like texting/emailing, scrolling and GPS navigation. Additionally, 41% of parents surveyed said they don’t feel like distracted driving is emphasized enough in drivers ed, so they are taking matters into their own hands. Here are some important tips to help prevent distracted driving: Activate the “Do Not Disturb” feature on your phone to block notifications while driving. Before starting your trip, program your GPS and review the route to avoid distractions while on the road. Consider signing up for a telematics program to promote safe driving habits beyond the holiday season. Finally, don't hesitate to speak up if you see a friend or loved one driving distracted—encourage them to focus on the road. If you're on the phone with someone who's driving, ask them to call you back once they've safely reached their destination. Telematics technology is playing a key role in promoting safer driving by collecting data from connected vehicles, IoT devices, and smartphones. It tracks behaviors such as speeding, hard braking, and distraction, and provides users with feedback to help improve their driving habits. By monitoring performance and encouraging safer choices, telematics helps drivers adopt better habits beyond the holiday season. President-elect Donald Trump said he plans to sue the Des Moines Register newspaper for a pre-election poll published showing Kamala Harris beating Donald Trump by 3 points in Iowa. Donald Trump said he plans to sue an Iowa newspaper that printed an outlier election poll that showed Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris ahead in the state by 3 points. Trump spoke public for the first time Monday since winning the presidency. He announced from Mar-a-Lago a $100 billion investment from SoftBank Group, a Japanese technology group, into U.S. projects over the next four years. He spoke briefly about the investment alongside Softbank’s CEO Masayoshi Son, and then took questions from reporters for nearly an hour. (Photo by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images) When asked about ABC News’ recent settlement in the defamation lawsuit , he said he could see himself moving forward with defamation lawsuits to other people and platforms. Trump hinted at several other lawsuits he was considering, including ones against "60 Minutes", Pulitzer and the Iowa newspaper that printed J. Ann Selzer’s headline-grabbing poll in the days leading up to the election. Here is what to know about the poll: Veteran pollster J. Ann Selzer announced she was done with election polling and moving on to "other ventures" after her pre-election poll in Iowa inaccurately showed Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of President-elect Donald Trump in the state he had easily won in 2016 and 2020. A highly anticipated election poll from J. Ann Selzer, the "gold standard" pollster in Iowa, was printed in The Des Moines Register on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, showing Kamala Harris beating Donald Trump by 3 points in the Hawkeye State. The poll was an outlier, and Trump ultimately won the state by a 13-point margin, winning 56% of the vote to Harris’ 42.7%. READ MORE: Here it is: The final 2024 electoral map Last month, Selzer announced she was ending her election polling. "Polling is a science of estimation, and science has a way of periodically humbling the scientist," she wrote . On Monday, Trump said he felt the back-and-forth of the polling printed in the newspaper was "fraud" and "election interference." "She's a very good pollster. She knows what she was doing and she didn't quit before. And we'll probably be filing a major lawsuit against them today or tomorrow," Trump said. READ MORE: Veteran pollster Ann Selzer ending election polling after 'big miss' in Iowa survey ABC News has agreed to pay $15 million toward Donald Trump’s presidential library to settle a defamation lawsuit that stems from comments made by host George Stephanopoulos, saying that the former president was found liable for rape. Under New York's narrow definition of rape in legal settings, E. Jean Carroll could not prove Trump committed rape. He was instead found liable for sexual abuse and defamation. LiveNOW's Andrew Craft spoke about the settlement with New York based attorney Randy Zelin. Last week, ABC News agreed to give $15 million towards Donald Trump’s presidential library to settle a defamation lawsuit. The defamation lawsuit involved a "This Week" segment with anchor George Stephanopoulos that aired on March 10, 2024. In the segment, Stephanopoulos made an inaccurate on-air assertion that the president-elect had been found civilly liable for raping writer E. Jean Carroll. Stephanopoulos claimed during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C. on that day that Trump had been "found liable for rape," which misstated the verdicts in Carroll's two lawsuits against Trump. Neither verdict involved a finding of rape as defined under New York law. Trump sued Stephanopoulos and the network for defamation soon after the segment aired. As part of the defamation settlement, ABC News agreed to pay $15 million toward Donald Trump’s presidential library that will be marked as a "charitable contribution." READ MORE: ABC, Trump settle defamation lawsuit When referencing the settlement and hinting at other possible lawsuits, Trump said he’s doing it because America needs "a fair media." "I feel I have to do this. I shouldn't really be the one to do it; it should have been Justice Department or somebody else. But, I have to do it," he said. "It costs a lot of money to do it, but we have to straighten out the press." When you hear a $20 million-a-year salary, the first thought should gravitate toward an athlete getting paid. But not in 2024. Even analysts, who aren’t actually on the field but are off it, talking about a game, are about to reset the market by a margin that’s never been done before. Yes, we are talking about Stephen A. Smith, who is set to be paid more than the current highest-paid NFL running back. After months of negotiations between WME (Smith’s agency) and ESPN (Smith’s employer), the bar has been set at a $20 million-a-year contract. This deal is structured for multiple years — at least five but possibly up to six. This adds up to a $120 million contract, which is not even being earned by several quarterbacks. Notably, highest-paid running back Christian McCaffrey ($17.2 million), highest-paid tight end Travis Kelce ($17.1 million), and highest-paid center Creed Humphrey ($18 million) will neither make as much money (per year) as Stephen A. Smith, nor have contracts as long. And wait till you hear how much Smith’s analyst peers are getting paid. While there is no clear information about how much Shannon Sharpe is making at ESPN, estimated reports suggest that he earns about $3 million per year. Despite having a playing background and two decades of broadcasting experience, he is getting paid significantly less. The former tight end has arguably become the soul of First Take , the face of which is Stephen A., yet a $17 million gap doesn’t make sense. Even Pat McAfee is making less than Stephen A. He signed a five-year, $85 million contract with ESPN, which comes down to $17 million per year. Troy Aikman, too, is making less, with a $18.5 million salary per year. So, why is ESPN paying Stephen A. this much money? Well, the truth is, the leading analyst is delivering the results that the media giant would expect from someone earning $20 million a year. Stephen A. has turned First Take into a household staple, especially in the morning. While cable TV is losing business, losing customers, and shifting to digital, Stephen A. hasn’t lost his viewers; he’s doubled them instead, maybe more. Per episode, First Take is averaging over 500k viewers, something no other show can rack up. The one show that could — the Undisputed — is no longer relevant . It’s the Stephen A. Smith effect. His charisma has always played a key role in attracting viewers. His engaging conversations, too, are fun to listen to, even when answering the silliest queries. He has also spread his spider’s web on social media, often interacting with fans. His own YouTube shows and side gigs are very successful as well. And last but not least, he’s so famous that even team owners and player agents are watching him, trying to gauge the audience’s feelings and what a leading analyst like Smith has to say. If that doesn’t impress you or ESPN, nothing will.MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Sam Darnold tossed aside his stoic demeanor for a moment after realizing he was on the videoboard, aggressively twirling a towel to further stoke the crowd's fire after the Minnesota Vikings had pulled away from Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons late in the game. “I just felt the buzz. That was pure passion, pure joy, man,” Darnold said.Finding the right vacuum cleaner can make a big difference in your home cleaning routine.
