Aviva made the 250-pence-per-share offer on Nov. 19 and the price represented a nearly 60% premium to the stock's close on Nov. 18. If the deal went through, Direct Line shareholders would have received 112.5 pence in cash and 0.282 new Aviva shares for every Direct Line share held. The life, motor and home insurer said Direct Line rejected the offer on Nov. 26 saying it undervalued the company, and refused to engage in further discussions. Direct Line did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The development was first reported by Bloomberg News on Wednesday.
