CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Ten yards into a scramble, Patrick Mahomes could have easily slid for a first down or simply ducked out of bounds and moved on to the next play. Instead, the three-time Super Bowl MVP cut back inside and raced another 23 yards up the field, helping to set up Spencer Schrader's 31-yard field goal as time expired as the Chiefs held on to beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday. “At that point, yards are more important than getting out of bounds,” Mahomes said. “With three timeouts, I just tried to just cut through and Justin Watson had a great block and was able to get down the field and get out of bounds.” The game-winning drive was the 21st of Mahomes' career, and the Chiefs won a game decided in the final seconds for the fifth time this season. Eight of the Chiefs' wins have come by one-score margins. “You always want to have some blowouts and be a little calmer in the fourth quarter, but I've always said it could be a good thing when you get to the playoffs later in the season knowing that you have been in those moments before, and knowing how to attack it play by play not making it too big of a moment,” Mahomes said. Then he smiled and said: “But I would say this more than anybody, I would love to win a game not by the very last play.” Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns in his first game at Bank of America Stadium and ran for 60 yards — including 33 on that last-minute play — as the Chiefs (10-1) scored on six of their eight possessions. Noah Gray caught four passes for 66 yards and scored two touchdowns for the second straight week, and DeAndre Hopkins also found the end zone for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Kareem Hunt ran for 68 yards on 16 carries and caught three passes for 19 yards. Bryce Young played well for Carolina (3-8), finishing 21 of 35 for 262 yards and a touchdown while leading the Panthers back from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game on Chuba Hubbard's 1-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion with 1:46 remaining. Panthers coach Dave Canales, who benched Young earlier this season for veteran Andy Dalton, said last year's No. 1 overall draft pick “absolutely” will remain the team's starting QB next week. That's a break from Canales' recent pattern of waiting a few days to name a starter. “Bryce is certainly making the most of his opportunities,” Canales said. “And he is making a statement to all of us. Showing us he can make plays in critical areas. He did a great job extending today.” Said Young: “For me, I just want to focus on what I can control. Regardless, I always have the same mindset and preparation, wanting to be better throughout the week. I am definitely grateful for confidence.” Still, there is room for improvement. The Panthers moved the ball well but struggled in the red zone, resulting in field goals of 30, 32, 29 and 33 yards for Eddy Pineiro, the most accurate kicker in NFL history. The Chiefs wasted no time setting the tone as Samaje Perine returned the opening kickoff 56 yards and Mahomes found Gray for a 35-yard touchdown strike on the third play of scrimmage for a 7-0 lead. Gray went nine games without a TD catch before hauling in two last week against Buffalo. His 11-yard score late in the second quarter gave him two more against the Panthers . Chiefs coach Andy Reid praised Mahomes' poise but said he was concerned about his team's nine penalties for 90 yards. Kansas City's Travis Kelce had six catches for 62 yards and moved into third place in career yards receiving by a tight end. He ranks behind only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten. However, Kelce failed to find the end zone for the ninth time in 11 games this season. Running back Jonathan Brooks made his NFL debut for Carolina, but the second-round pick was limited to 7 yards on two carries. Panthers: Rookie TE Ja'Tavion Sanders was taken to a hospital, where he was evaluated for a neck injury and released . He landed awkwardly on his head after making a catch near the end of the second quarter. Chiefs: Host Las Vegas on Friday. Panthers: Host Tampa Bay next Sunday. (AP) — In a season that began with many questions and lowered expectations, it was apt watching Bills quarterback Josh Allen join coach Sean McDermott lay on the cold, wet sideline to make snow angels in celebrating Buffalo’s earliest clinching of a division title in team history. That Allen took part was no surprise. The newly engaged 28-year-old has maintained the happy-go-lucky approach he brought with him to Buffalo as a raw-talented athlete in 2018, while gradually blossoming into one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. For McDermott, it was a pleasant surprise to see the usually reserved eight-year coach finally let his hair down — figuratively, because the few jokes he does make are usually about being bald. With his latest do-it-all three-TD outing — one rushing, one receiving and, the coup de grace, being credited with receiving his own pass for a score off a lateral from Amari Cooper — in a 35-10 win over San Francisco on Sunday night, Allen continued making his strongest NFL MVP case. What’s also becoming apparent is how much McDermott deserves consideration for coach of the year honors. Without the two, the Bills (10-2) wouldn’t be in this position in becoming just the eighth NFL team — and first since Indianapolis in 2009 — to clinch a division title with at least five games remaining in their schedule. It’s reflective of how the two have grown together in what, on the outside, could be perceived as an odd couple relationship between an offensive-minded, swashbuckling quarterback and a defensive-minded coach, too often knocked for being too conservative. Perhaps, it’s Allen’s boyish nature that has brought out the risk-taker in McDermott, who has carried over the aggressive approach he takes to defense by placing trust in his quarterback. It’s become apparent in everything the Bills have accomplished so far in having at least 10 wins through 12 games for just the fifth time in team history, and first since 1991, when Buffalo was led by eventual Hall of Famers in coach Marv Levy and quarterback Jim Kelly. Buffalo has won seven straight since consecutive losses to Baltimore and Houston. And the Bills have scored 30 or more points in six straight outings, matching the team record set in 2004. Allen is doing more with less on an offense that was supposed to be hampered following the offseason departures of receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis and center Mitch Morse. The Bills are more balanced in leaning on their running attack, while Allen has also curtailed his turnover-prone ways. He’s lost two fumbles and thrown just five interceptions after being picked off a career-worst 18 times last season. Meantime, McDermott has taken a different approach to fourth down situations. The Bills have converted 13 of 15 fourth down attempts after going 9 of 16 last season and 7 of 13 in 2022. The most fourth down attempts during McDermott’s tenure came in 2021, when Buffalo converted just 11 of 22. This is but an example of the bond the quarterback and coach have built in a shared objective of overcoming past playoff failures. Clinching a division title is but one step, with the Bills now focused on catching the Kansas City Chiefs (11-1), whom they’ve beaten already, for the AFC’s top seed. In calling it the team’s next goal, McDermott went off script from his usual game-at-a-time message by noting the importance of celebrating a division-clinching win, if only for one day. “Being 50 years old and 20-plus years in this league, I’ve learned to try and enjoy the moments,” McDermott said. “And this is a moment, right?” It certainly was. What’s working Turnover differential. Buffalo’s defense forced three fumbles, including one at its goal line, while the offense didn’t commit a giveaway. The Bills upped their league-leading turnover differential entering Monday to plus-17. What needs help Run defense. Though the conditions were snowy and slick, the Bills allowed 119 yards rushing in the first half before the 49ers were forced to start passing the ball once the score became lopsided. Buffalo particularly struggled in stopping Christian McCaffrey, who had 53 yards on seven carries before leaving the game with a potential season-ending knee injury. Stock up LB Matt Milano was in on five tackles while playing 37 of 48 defensive snaps in his first outing in nearly 14 months after being sidelined by a broken right leg and torn left biceps. Stock down CB Kaiir Elam, the 2022 first-round pick was a healthy inactive for a second straight outing, and still having difficulty finding a regular role. Injuries None reported. Weeks before President-elect Donald Trump is to take office, a major rift has emerged among his supporters over immigration and the place of foreign workers in the U.S. labor market. The debate hinges on how much tolerance, if any, the incoming administration should have for skilled immigrants brought into the country on work visas. The schism pits immigration hard-liners against many of the president-elect’s most prominent backers from the technology industry — among them Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, who helped back Trump’s election efforts with more than a quarter-billion dollars, and David Sacks, a venture capitalist picked to be czar for artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency policy. The tech industry has long relied on foreign skilled workers to help run its companies, a labor supply that critics say undercuts wages for American citizens. The dispute, which late Thursday exploded online into acrimony, finger-pointing and accusations of censorship, frames a policy quandary for Trump. The president-elect has in the past expressed a willingness to provide more work visas to skilled workers, but has also promised to close the border, deploy tariffs to create more jobs for American citizens and severely restrict immigration. Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and fervent Trump loyalist, helped set off the altercation this week by criticizing Trump’s selection of Sriram Krishnan, an Indian American venture capitalist, to be an adviser on artificial intelligence policy. In a post, she said she was concerned that Krishnan, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in India, would have influence on the Trump administration’s immigration policies, and mentioned “third-world invaders.” “It’s alarming to see the number of career leftists who are now being appointed to serve in Trump’s admin when they share views that are in direct opposition to Trump’s America First agenda,” Loomer wrote on the social platform X, which is owned by Musk. Loomer’s comments surfaced a simmering tension between longtime Trump supporters, who embrace his virulent anti-immigrant rhetoric, and his more recently acquired backers from the tech industry, many of whom have built or financed businesses that rely on the government’s H-1B visa program to hire skilled workers from abroad. In response, Sacks called Loomer’s critiques “crude,” while Musk posted regularly this week about the lack of homegrown talent to fill all the needed positions within American technology companies. The expertise U.S. companies need “simply does not exist in America in sufficient quantity,” Musk posted Thursday, drawing a line between what he views as legal immigration and illegal immigration. Throughout the election cycle, Musk helped amplify the debunked theory that the Democratic Party was encouraging immigrants to illegally cross the border to vote, thus replacing American voters. A naturalized citizen born in South Africa, Musk has spoken out frequently against immigration, characterizing it as a threat to national sovereignty and endorsing messages calling noncitizens “invaders.” This week, however, he came out strongly in favor of H-1B visas, which are given to specialized foreign workers. Musk has said he held an H-1B before becoming a citizen, and his electric-car company, Tesla, obtained 724 of the visas this year. H-1B visas are typically for three-year periods, although holders can extend them or apply for green cards. Krishnan, Sacks and Musk did not respond to requests for comment. Loomer, reached by telephone, said she took on the visa issue because she didn’t trust the motivations of Musk and other tech magnates who helped elect Trump. She is worried, she said, that Musk, in particular, would try to use his sway to persuade the incoming president to allow more immigration rather than close the border as she and others on the right would prefer. “He’s not MAGA and he’s a drag on the Trump transition,” said Loomer, who said she believed that Musk was using his relationship with Trump to further enrich himself. “Elon wants everyone to think he’s a hero because he gave $250 million to the Trump campaign. But that’s not much of an investment if it allows him to become a trillionaire.” A spokesperson for Trump did not respond to a request for comment. Trump said on a podcast co-hosted by Sacks in June that any international student who graduates from an American university “should be able to stay in this country.” The taping followed a San Francisco fundraiser for Trump’s campaign hosted by Sacks. Since then, the leaders of tech companies who rely on skilled foreign labor, including Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Sundar Pichai of Google, have wooed Trump with calls, visits to Mar-a-Lago — Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida — and donations for his inauguration. That’s a different dynamic from Trump’s first term, which began with the industry’s sweeping condemnation of the first Trump administration’s travel ban suspending the issuance of visas to applicants from seven countries, all of which had Muslim-majority populations. Tech leaders have also been taking an important role in the presidential transition, proposing associates for high-ranking administration positions and advising the president-elect on potential policies and foreign relations. Trump also tapped Musk to serve as co-leader of a new “government efficiency” commission. The rising importance of tech leaders in Trump’s circle is now drawing scrutiny from his base — and even some past rivals. Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina who ran for president against Trump and who in the past has called herself the “proud daughter of Indian immigrants,” slammed the tech industry and its leaders as “lazy” for automatically seeking out foreign workers to fulfill their needs. “If the tech industry needs workers, invest in our education system,” she wrote on X on Friday morning. “Invest in our American workforce. We must invest in Americans first before looking elsewhere.” On Friday, Steve Bannon, a longtime Trump confidant, hosted a series of influencers and researchers on his popular “War Room” podcast who critiqued “big tech oligarchs” for supporting the H-1B program and cast immigration as a threat to Western civilization. Others took a more sympathetic stance toward Silicon Valley’s desire to continue bringing in engineers and other skilled workers from abroad. Vivek Ramaswamy, the former Republican presidential candidate who last month was tapped to lead the government efficiency initiative alongside Musk, blamed American culture for creating people ill-suited for skilled tech positions. “The H-1B system is badly broken &should be replaced with one that focuses on selecting the very best of the best,” Ramaswamy said on X on Friday. The rancorous exchange over immigration soon grew to encompass another flashpoint on the right: online speech. Since acquiring what was then called Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, Musk has characterized himself as a “free speech absolutist.” Among his first acts atop the company was reinstating accounts banned by the previous management, including Loomer’s, which had been taken down in 2018 after sharing anti-Muslim posts. But on Thursday, X temporarily blocked Loomer from posting on the site and removed her verified status, cutting her off from income from paid subscribers. Numerous other accounts reported losing their verified status as well, although only Loomer seems to have been blocked from posting or monetizing her account. Loomer said that starting Friday morning, she was able to post again but still had not regained her verified status. An X spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Loomer, whose account has 1.4 million followers, called it retaliation, pointing out that Musk on Thursday night endorsed a post from a popular pro-tech influencer stating “play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” in reference to Loomer. Loomer called the restriction “censorship.” This article originally appeared in The New York Times . © 2024 The New York Times Company

Published 5:31 pm Monday, December 2, 2024 By Jim Gazzolo Just an hour after Matt Viator was named the new McNeese State head football coach, his best player hit the transfer portal. Micah Davey, the All-American linebacker, announced on social media on Monday afternoon. Davey, a junior, missed a good portion of this season with injuries but was still able to be selected to the Southland Conference’s second team. After a stellar sophomore year, he was a consensus All-American who saw him average just over 15 tackles a game. That earned him first-team honors on the SLC and Louisiana Sports Writers teams. Davey finished the 2023 campaign with 20 tackles against Houston Christian and 21 vs. Lamar. Despite rumors, Davey returned to the Cowboys for this year and was named a preseason All-Almerican. However, injuries cost him parts of five games, including three straight at one point. He was a preseason all-American pick this year. Last week, he and several other players came out in support of defensive coordinator Tony Pecoraro as the next head coach. Pecoraro was named the interim Cowboy head coach after Gary Goff was let go a week ago. In three seasons with McNeese, Davey collected 311 tackles, 164 of them solo. He had 5.5 sacks, an interception, two fumble recovered, and three forced fumbles in 29 games. Davey also had one touchdown. He becomes the fifth McNeese player to announce he would be entering the portal, which doesn’t officially open until Dec. 9. With the number of scholarships being lowered, this will likely be the most overfilled portal in history. Last week, defensive backs Levi Wyatt and Boogsie Silvera, quarterback Kamden Sixkiller, punter Finn Lappin, and offensive lineman Hayes Creel announced on social media that they would be entering the portal as well.

The Detroit Lions will play without two high draft picks in rookie cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. while possibly getting back veteran Emmanuel Moseley against the host Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Arnold was downgraded Saturday from questionable to out because of a groin injury. He was limited at practice on Thursday and participated in a full practice on Friday. The Lions drafted Arnold with the 24th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Alabama. Arnold, 21, has started all 10 games and has 38 tackles and six passes defended. Rakestraw (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve after not practicing all week. He already had been ruled out for Sunday's game. Detroit picked Rakestraw in the second round (61st overall) out of Missouri. He has played in eight games and has six tackles. Rakestraw, 22, has played on 46 defensive snaps (8 percent) and 95 special teams snaps (42 percent). Moseley had full practice sessions all week and was activated from injured reserve on Saturday but was listed as questionable for Sunday. The 28-year-old is in his second season with Detroit and appeared in one game last season before going on IR in October 2023. He was placed on IR on Aug. 27 with a designation to return. Moseley played from 2018-22 for the San Francisco 49ers and had 162 tackles, four interceptions -- one returned for a touchdown -- and 33 passes defensed in 46 games (33 starts). Detroit elevated linebacker David Long on Saturday for game day. Long, 28, signed with the practice squad on Tuesday after the Miami Dolphins released him on Nov. 13. He had started six of eight games for the Dolphins this season and had 38 tackles. In other Lions news, the NFL fined wide receiver Jameson Williams $19,697 for unsportsmanlike conduct for making an obscene gesture during a touchdown celebration in last Sunday's 52-6 home win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the NFL Network reported Saturday. Williams, 23, scored on a 65-yard pass from Jared Goff with 12:55 remaining in the third quarter. --Field Level MediaOfficers conduct compliance checks on Yolo County’s registered sex offenders

Mysterious Drone Swarms Detected Over UK Airbases Hosting US Stealth Jets“My young daughter had a nightmare of terrorists invading our town, and I told her not to worry, that it won’t happen again,” said Sarit Zehavi. “Then she asked me, ‘But what will happen in 20 years?’ ” In the rugged northern reaches of Israel, the echoes of war reverberate daily. While Gaza still makes headlines, Israel has shifted its focus to its northern front, where it faces a formidable threat from Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Shia terrorist group in Lebanon. Israel’s ongoing fight with Hezbollah has dramatically escalated since mid-September. In addition to intensified aerial attacks on Hezbollah positions, Israel has engaged in targeted assassinations, including the killing of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. Israel has approved a U.S. plan for a ceasefire with Hezbollah, clearing a way for an end to the conflict that has killed thousands since it was ignited by the Gaza war over a year ago. This violence has forced over 60,000 Israelis from their homes and displaced 1.2-million people in south Lebanon. Israel is grappling with two deeply entwined conflicts — one in the south with Hamas and another in the north with Hezbollah. But would a resolution with Hamas in Gaza lead to peace on the northern front? Last month, I joined an Exigent Foundation media mission to Israel, where I witnessed what is unfolding and got an idea of what the future might hold for this lone Jewish state. Zehavi, a retired IDF lieutenant colonel who founded the Alma Research and Education Center, which conducts research into Israel’s northern border security, shared her perspective as both a defence analyst and a mother living near the border. The horrors of the October 7 attacks on southern Israel have left lasting scars, particularly on the women and children who witnessed unimaginable violence. For women living on Israel’s northern frontier, the nightmare of similar brutality at Hezbollah’s hands feels uncomfortably real. “Those of us next to the north border are living with the horrors of the south,” Zehavi said. “We cannot accept that our daughters or ourselves will face the same risks as our sisters in the south.” To this end, Israel’s new approach on its northern front is markedly more aggressive. In addition to air and artillery strikes, IDF troops have invaded Hezbollah strongholds in villages along the border, dismantling weaponry and military infrastructure the terrorist group has spent years building. Despite these extensive military maneuvers, Hezbollah remains a potent force. With an estimated 25,000 short- and medium-range rockets, the group continues to launch daily assaults — using rockets, drones and anti-tank missiles — that wreak havoc on Israeli border communities. Families have evacuated, schools are closed and roads are risky to travel due to the threat of missiles. “My life changed completely,” Zehavi said. “How do I get my daughter back to school? How do I have a normal life? How do I get a situation where I can drive on these main roads here?” The extent of this conflict reveals the limits of military strategy alone. Despite intense IDF efforts, Hezbollah remains well-armed and entrenched. Zehavi highlighted how the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) — meant to act as a peacekeeping force in the region — failed to curb Hezbollah’s military buildup. According to Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, “Hezbollah terrorists are using UNIFIL outposts as hiding places and as places of ambushes.” The core of Israel’s northern mission is clear: end Hezbollah’s threat, once and for all. But Zehavi and other security experts remain cautious, knowing that without an international framework to prevent Hezbollah’s resurgence, gains on the battlefield may prove short-lived. Israel is adamant that any ceasefire terms must include the freedom to stop Hezbollah from rearming. “A diplomatic arrangement can’t be like the last one,” Zehavi insisted. “We need a force that’s truly capable of monitoring and preventing Hezbollah from reestablishing itself along the border.” So, will peace with Hamas mean peace with Hezbollah? Unlikely. Hezbollah has its own agenda, tied to the strategic objectives of its primary benefactor, Iran. Its sustained conflict with Israel isn’t merely about Gaza; it’s about the broader ideological struggle between Iran and Israel, with Lebanon caught in the middle. According to Zehavi, a lasting peace on Israel’s northern front requires more than military victories or temporary ceasefires — it demands a radical shift in Lebanon’s political landscape. Hezbollah — which is designated a terrorist organization by Canada, the United States and many other countries — must be prevented from holding power within the Lebanese government, a position it has exploited to secure weapons and funding from Iran. In this complex regional chess game, Israel is not solely fighting to defend its borders, it’s grappling with a deep-seated ideology that threatens both Israeli and Lebanese futures. While the battles rage on, many in northern Israel are left with the grim realization that peace may still be a distant hope. “My mission for the next 20 years is to make sure Hezbollah doesn’t recover,” Zehavi concluded. “This isn’t just about securing the border — it’s about ensuring that our daughters don’t live under the same threat 20 years from now.” National PostRamiro Enrique, Orlando City blank Atlanta to reach conference final

A former Washington, D.C., police officer accused of leaking confidential information to a Proud Boys national leader became a "double agent" for the far-right extremist group, a federal prosecutor said on Monday. What Happened? Metropolitan Police Lieutenant Shane Lamond was arrested in May 2023 and is charged with one count of obstruction of justice and three counts of making false statements. The case against Lamond stems from allegedly leaked sensitive information to Enrique Tarrio, the group's national leader, after members burned a Black Lives Matter banner on December 12 2020, according to federal prosecutors. At the start of Lamond's trial on Monday, prosecutors argued that the former police officer was a "Proud Boys sympathizer" who tipped off Tarrio about his impending arrest over the banner-burning incident and provided "real-time updates" on police investigations. He is also accused of later lying to investigators about their communications. "He knew the difference between right and wrong, and he knew it was a crime to lie to law enforcement," prosecutor Joshua Rothstein said during opening statements for Lamond's trial. "This play-by-play information allowed the Proud Boys to be one step ahead of law enforcement," the prosecutor added. The defense has dismissed these claims as inflammatory, arguing that the prosecution is presenting a skewed version of events. Lamond's attorney, Ana Jara, said, "Context matters, especially in conversations" and accused prosecutors of "cherry-picking" evidence to paint a misleading picture. Meanwhile, the trial's first witness, Lieutenant Ahsan Mufti, who investigated the banner burning and obtained a warrant for Tarrio's arrest, testified that Lamond withheld critical information about Tarrio's direct confession to the banner-burning that would have helped his investigation. Tarrio had publicly confessed to the crime on social media before his arrest. Mufti also acknowledged that Lamond had been cooperative in other aspects, such as identifying Tarrio in photos. Lamond had pleading not guilty in May 2023 leading U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson to decide the case after hearing testimony. From Officer to Insider? Lamond's connection with Tarrio began in 2019 when he supervised the intelligence branch of the department's Homeland Security Bureau. His role included monitoring groups like the Proud Boys. However, text exchanges between the two reveal a relationship that prosecutors claim went beyond professional boundaries. Lamond reportedly referred to Tarrio as "brother" in their communications, which spanned hundreds of messages. Tarrio was sentenced to more than five months in jail for burning the banner stolen from a historic Black church in downtown Washington and for bringing two high-capacity firearm magazines into the district. The January 6 Connection Tarrio was arrested in the banner-burning case in Washington, D.C., just days before the January 6, 2021, riot on the U.S. Capitol when Proud Boys members joined a mob's attack on the Capitol. Though Tarrio wasn't at the Capitol during the riot, he has since been sentenced to 22 years in prison after a jury convicted him and other Proud Boys leaders of seditious conspiracy charges stemming from the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. According to Lamond's indictment, Tarrio and Lamond exchanged messages about the January 6 riot and discussed whether Proud Boys members were in danger of being charged in the attack. "Of course I can't say it officially, but personally I support you all and don't want to see your group's name and reputation dragged through the mud," Lamond wrote. Lamond, of Stafford, Virginia, was placed on administrative leave in February 2022. Meanwhile, Lamond's case, being presided over by Judge Jackson, could see Tarrio himself called as a witness. (AP) — New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito came out of his first start of the season with a sore throwing arm and his status for Thursday's game against the Cowboys in Dallas is uncertain. DeVito was not listed on Monday's injury report and coach Brian Daboll said he did not know about the injury to the quarterback's right arm until just before the team had a walkthrough practice on Tuesday. Daboll said he was hopeful DeVito would play, but he added that backup Drew Lock will get a couple of extra snaps in the short workout. “If Tommy is good, then Tommy will be the guy,” Daboll said. Having played on Sunday, the Giants (2-9) are prepping for the Cowboys (4-7) with walkthroughs. After the workout on Tuesday, DeVito said his whole body was still sore, even his neck. He planned to test his arm on Wednesday before the team headed to Dallas. “The plan is to play," DeVito said. “We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. Hopefully wake up feeling a little bit better after I get some more treatment today. Looking forward to tomorrow.” DeVito was given the starting job last week when Daboll benched Daniel Jones after five straight losses. Jones asked co-owner John Mara to cut him on Friday and the team released him so he could pursue other opportunities after he cleared waivers on Monday, which he did. DeVito was 21 of 31 for 189 yards in a 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was sacked four times and missed one play in the fourth quarter after being hit hard after making a throw. Lock said the uncertainty about playing is the life of a backup. He noted playing one play after DeVito was hurt in the fourth quarter was a first for him. “Always got to be ready,” he said. “No matter what the week, no matter what the situation is, just playing like you’re going to go in there and play. My mindset didn’t change this week, and we’ll see how the rest of the week shakes out.” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl
