dvphilippines Justin Trudeau taking the time to reflect following Freeland departureThe latest development came hours after thousands of his supporters, defying government warnings, broke through a barrier of shipping containers blocking off Islamabad and entered a high-security zone, where they clashed with security forces, facing tear gas shelling, mass detentions and gunfire. Tension has been high in Islamabad since Sunday when supporters of the former PM began a “long march” from the restive north-west to demand his release. Khan has been in a prison for more than a year and faces more than 150 criminal cases that his party says are politically motivated. Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, led the protest, but she fled as police pushed back against demonstrators. Hundreds of Khan’s supporters are being arrested in the ongoing night-time operation. Interior minister Mohsin Naqvi told reporters that the Red Zone, which houses government buildings and embassies, and the surrounding areas have been cleared. Leaders from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, or PTI, have also fled the protest site. Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s army took control of D-Chowk, a large square in the Red Zone, where visiting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is staying. Since Monday, Mr Naqvi had threatened that security forces would use live fire if protesters fired weapons at them. “We have now authorised the police to respond as necessary,” Mr Naqvi said Tuesday while visiting the square. Before the operation began, protester Shahzor Ali said people had taken to the streets because Khan had called for them. “We will stay here until Khan joins us. He will decide what to do next,” Mr Ali said. Protester Fareeda Bibi, who is not related to Khan’s wife, said people have suffered greatly for the last two years. “We have really suffered for the last two years, whether it is economically, politically or socially. We have been ruined. I have not seen such a Pakistan in my life,” she said. Authorities have struggled to contain the protest-related violence. Six people, including four members of the security services, were killed when a vehicle rammed them on a street overnight into Tuesday. A police officer died in a separate incident. Dozens of Khan supporters beat a videographer covering the protest for the Associated Press and took his camera. He sustained head injuries and was treated in hospital. By Tuesday afternoon, fresh waves of protesters made their way unopposed to their final destination in the Red Zone. Mr Naqvi said Khan’s party had rejected a government offer to rally on the outskirts of the city. Information minister Atta Tarar warned there would be a severe government reaction to the violence. The government says only the courts can order Khan’s release. He was ousted in 2022 through a no-confidence vote in Parliament. In a bid to foil the unrest, police have arrested more than 4,000 Khan supporters since Friday and suspended mobile and internet services in some parts of the country. Messaging platforms were also experiencing severe disruption in the capital. Khan’s party relies heavily on social media and uses messaging platforms such as WhatsApp to share information, including details of events. The X platform, which is banned in Pakistan, is no longer accessible, even with a VPN. Last Thursday, a court prohibited rallies in the capital and Mr Naqvi said anyone violating the ban would be arrested. Travel between Islamabad and other cities has become nearly impossible because of shipping containers blocking the roads. All education institutions remain closed.

Noodles and wine are the secret ingredients for a strange new twist in China's doping saga Blame it on the noodles. That's what one Chinese official suggested when anti-doping leaders were looking for answers for the doping scandal that cast a shadow over this year's Olympic swim meet. Earlier this year, reports that 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for a banned heart medication emerged. None were sanctioned because Chinese authorities determined the swimmers were contaminated by traces of the drug spread about a hotel kitchen. In a strange twist, the leader of China's anti-doping agency suggested this case could have been similar to one in which criminals were responsible for tainting noodles that were later eaten by another Chinese athlete who also tested positive for the drug.Maia Bouchier and Nat Sciver-Brunt tons put England on top in South Africa

Share Tweet Share Share Email In today’s digital landscape, the performance of a website plays a pivotal role in its visibility and success. Beyond appealing design and engaging content, a site’s technical performance directly influences its search engine optimization ( SEO ) outcomes. Here’s how high-performing servers and well-optimized websites can significantly enhance your SEO strategy: Speed and SEO Rankings: A Critical Link Page load speed is one of the key ranking factors for search engines like Google. Sites that load quickly provide a better user experience, reducing bounce rates and keeping visitors engaged. Statistics reveal that a delay of even one second in page loading can lead to: A 7% drop in conversion rates . An 11% reduction in page views . A 16% decrease in customer satisfaction . A fast-loading website, supported by a high-performance server, not only ranks higher but also builds user trust and satisfaction, contributing to better long-term SEO outcomes. Server Performance and Downtime Search engines prioritize websites that are reliable and accessible. Frequent downtime due to server issues can lead to: Crawling inefficiencies: If search engine bots encounter your site offline, they might skip it, reducing indexing opportunities. A loss of ranking authority over time. Investing in high-performance hosting services ensures your site remains accessible to users and search engines alike. Mobile Optimization and Core Web Vitals With the majority of users accessing websites via mobile devices, Google’s mobile-first indexing strategy makes performance on mobile a non-negotiable factor. Key elements include: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Measures loading performance. First Input Delay (FID): Assesses interactivity. Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): Evaluates visual stability. High-performance servers help meet these benchmarks, ensuring your site aligns with Google’s Core Web Vitals, which are essential for modern SEO. User Experience and Retention Performance directly impacts user experience. Slow, unresponsive websites frustrate users, leading to: Higher bounce rates. Lower dwell time (time spent on the site). Both metrics are critical to SEO. A seamless browsing experience encourages users to explore further, signaling to search engines that your site offers valuable content. Scalability for Growing Traffic As your website gains visibility through effective SEO strategies, traffic will increase. A robust hosting solution can handle sudden traffic spikes without compromising performance, ensuring uninterrupted user experience and maintaining your site’s SEO health. Best Practices for High SEO Performance Choose the Right Hosting Provider: Opt for hosting solutions with low latency, high uptime guarantees, and excellent customer support. Providers offering Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) can further boost speed by delivering content from servers closest to users. Optimize Images and Files: Compress images and use modern file formats like WebP. Minify CSS, JavaScript, and HTML files to reduce load times. Implement Caching: Browser and server-side caching reduce the time it takes to load repeat visits, improving overall speed and user satisfaction. Use a Reliable CMS: Platforms like WordPress, when paired with performance-enhancing plugins, make optimization simpler and more effective. Regularly Monitor Performance: Tools like Google PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix, and Lighthouse provide valuable feedback on your site’s performance, helping identify areas for improvement. High performance isn’t just about having a fast website; it’s about creating a seamless user experience that search engines reward. Investing in robust servers and maintaining an optimized website ensures better rankings, higher traffic, and greater user satisfaction. LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Mason Falslev scored 27 points as Utah State beat South Florida 88-67 on Saturday night for the Aggies' best start in school history. Falslev had nine rebounds, nine assists, and three steals for the Aggies (10-0). Ian Martinez scored 15 points while shooting 4 for 12 (1 for 6 from 3-point range) and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line and added five assists. Karson Templin finished 5 of 8 from the field to finish with 12 points. Quincy Adekokoya led the Bulls (5-5) in scoring, finishing with 12 points. Kasen Jennings added 11 points and five assists for South Florida. Brandon Stroud finished with 10 points and two steals. NEXT UP Up next for Utah State is a Tuesday matchup with UCSD at home, and South Florida hosts Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday. ___ The Associated Press created this story using technology provided by and data from . The Associated PressIn a span of about 22 hours, SpaceX could manage three rocket launches and one landing of a Dragon spacecraft. It flew a Department of Defense mission from Florida's Cape Canaveral on Monday night and on Tuesday knocked out a National Reconnaissance Office mission from California and the landing of the latest cargo Dragon spacecraft off the coast of Florida. The topper will be a launch from Kennedy Space Center that would mark 90 spaceflight missions among all providers on the Space Coast in 2024. That launch would see a Falcon 9 on the mPower-E mission launching from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Pad 39-A targeting an updated 5:26 p.m. EST liftoff at the end of a one-hour, 27-minute window that opened at 3:59 p.m. with backup during the same window on Wednesday. The payload is a pair of satellites for Luxembourg-based communications company SES headed to medium-Earth orbit. With one hour before the opening of the window, the countdown was paused for weather, with the T-0 getting first pushed to 4:30, then 5 p.m. and finally the last minute of the available window at 5:26 p.m. Space Launch Delta 45’s weather squadron forecasts a 55% chance for good launch conditions, that would improve to 65% in the event of a 24-hour delay. High winds at the launch site and concerns for booster recovery delayed launch attempts for both Space Coast missions over the weekend. When it does fly, this would be the first launch of the first-stage booster that will aim for a recovery landing downrange on the droneship Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic. Already on Tuesday, a SpaceX cargo Dragon spacecraft made a successful splashdown off the coast of Florida to complete the CRS-31 mission. The Dragon arrived to the International Space Station with 6,000 pounds of resupply payloads back on Nov. 5 after launching from the Space Coast, and returned with thousands of pounds of supplies and science experiments. Earlier Tuesday, the company flew the NROL-149, a National Space Security Launch mission, from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base. The busy schedule began Monday night, with what had been a secretive mission leading up to launch. That one was a Falcon 9 that lifted off on the RRT-1 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40 at 7:52 p.m. This was the fourth launch of the first-stage booster, which made a recovery landing on the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas. After launch, the Space Force revealed in a press release the RRT stood for “Rapid Response Trailblazer,” and its payload was a GPS III satellite flying under a National Security Space Launch contract that had switched from United Launch Alliance to SpaceX. It touted the launch as “a new level of readiness and resilience” for its Space Systems Command and Space Operations Command, as it took less than five months to turn around the mission from its inception to launch. Normally this sort of NSSL mission would take 24 months to execute. The prelaunch processing timeline was also sped up from a normal six-month turnaround to only three months. It took an existing satellite manufactured by Lockheed Martin from storage, sped up its integration and readiness for launch. The mission was originally tapped to fly on a ULA Vulcan rocket, but had been delayed because Vulcan has yet to be certified by the Space Force. “This launch was a remarkable achievement that highlights the Space Force’s ability to execute high priority launches of major space systems on a significantly reduced timescale,” said Col. Jim Horne, senior materiel leader of Launch Execution for the Space Force’s Assured Access to Space program. “As an added benefit, it also demonstrates flexibility to adjust our manifest to minimize the impact of Vulcan delays.” The GPS satellite, which was nicknamed “Sally Ride,” joins 31 others already active in orbit, along with seven backup satellites and three more awaiting launch. “Over 6 billion people use GPS on a daily basis, and we are always eager to update the global capability we provide by getting some new technology on orbit,” said Col. Andrew Menschner, Space Force Delta 31 mission commander, which acted as the space vehicle lead for the first time. -------- ©2024 Orlando Sentinel. Visit at orlandosentinel.com . Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.SANTA CLARA — Neither Nick Bosa nor Trent Williams practiced for a third straight week, and that’s not great news for a 49ers team trying to shake a three-game losing streak in Sunday’s homecoming against the Chicago Bears. Bosa was able to show enough progress to not be ruled out Friday, but he is doubtful. Williams officially is out, as are running back Jordan Mason, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety George Odum. While Bosa has been sidelined since a third-quarter oblique strain Nov. 17 against Seattle, Williams’ hiatus is traced. mainly to an ankle injury but he’s also been coping with personal issues after his son was stillborn Nov. 24. Cornerback Charvarius Ward did not practice Friday because of a personal matter; he played last Sunday in Buffalo in his first game since the Oct. 28 death of his 23-month-old daughter. Ward is still expected to play Sunday, although the 49ers understandably could excuse him amid his grieving. Left guard Aaron Banks is questionable, having missed the 38-10 loss at Buffalo because of a concussion from the loss to Seattle. Safety Talanoa Hufanga is also questionable after returning to practice this week as the 49ers evaluate whether to activate him off Injured Reserve. RUNNING BACK OPTIONS Isaac Guerendo looks in line to start at running back, with Patrick Taylor Jr. as the next-best option, while the 49ers move past last Sunday’s season-ending injuries to Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Mason (ankle). The 49ers put McCaffrey back on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, having spent eight weeks on IR with Achilles tendinitis before his Nov. 9 activation. Mason is expected to move onto IR on Saturday. For further depth, Israel Abanikanda was claimed off waivers from the New York Jets, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn as re-signed to the practice squad. PURDY ALL CLEAR Two weeks since missing the 49ers’ 38-10 loss at Green Bay because of a shoulder injury, quarterback Brock Purdy had no setbacks in his return last Sunday at Buffalo and is full-go for this game. “He’s good. He had to wait a while give him rest and make sure it healed,” Shanahan said. “Glad to get him back to full speed and get him back to practice.” BEARS INJURIES Bears running back D’Andre Swift and wide receiver D.J. Moore are both questionable after quadriceps injuries forced them to miss back-to-back practices before Friday’s limited return. Center Ryan Bates (concussion) and safety Elijah Hicks (ankle) are out. Swift’s backup, Roschon Johnson, will not play because of a concussion. Wide receiver Keenan Allen (ankle) is fully expected to play despite missing Wednesday’s practice. He’s the key to everything they desire to do.” Samuel has not unlocked the 49ers offense, either as a wide receiver (38 catches, 531 yards, one touchdown) or a running back (27 carries, 79 yards, one touchdown). HALL OF FAME COMPLIMENT In the wake of McCaffrey’s season-ending knee injury, he wrote an extensive message on Instagram this week depicting his love for the game, and it won the admiration of general manager John Lynch. “That deal he wrote was beautiful,” Lynch said on KNBR 680-AM. “I told him, ‘Hey you wrote your Hall of Fame speech, or an excerpt for it.’ He encompassed what football is all about and why we all love it, as much as anybody I’ve ever heard.” McCaffrey’s words on Wednesday: “Football is the greatest game on the planet to me. I love that you can find out exactly who you are without ever saying a word. It lifts you up and breaks you down and it can happen fast. It’s humbling in the best ways. You can do everything right and still fail. Thats life and that’s football. It’s a constant test of wills and those who just keep going tend to reap the benefits of their perseverance. This wasn’t my year, and sometimes when it rains, it pours. You can feel sorry for yourself and listen to the birds, or you can hold the line. I’m grateful for the support of everyone in my corner and promise I’ll work smarter and harder than ever to come back better from this. I love my teammates, I love the 9ers, and I love football. God doesn’t miss. Onward ➡️🙏🏼”

AI voice cloning: How programs are learning to pick up on pitch and tone

Charlotte Crosby trebles security measures to ‘feel safe’ amid attempted robberyDuring his chat with reporters Tuesday, Pitt running backs coach Lindsey Lamar was quick with an answer when the question made it obvious. Is Desmond Reid playing through pain? “All season,” Lamar said, “like everybody in college football. I’m sure Kyle Louis (Pitt’s All-American candidate linebacker) is banged up, but he’s playing through it. “Des is a tough kid. He’s going to be banged up. He just plays through it because that’s what football players do.” Those who have followed Pitt through the first 11 of the 12-game season – the regular-season finale is Saturday at Boston College – might wonder where the Panthers might be if the transfer portal did not deliver Reid from Western Carolina this year and wide receiver Konata Mumfield from Akron before the 2022 season. At 5-foot-8, 175 pounds, Reid leads Pitt in rushing (797) and receptions (47). His pass-catching total (564) is second to Mumpfield, but tops among all ACC running backs. His average all-purpose yardage (150.9 per game) is second in the ACC to North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton and fifth in the nation. His total yardage (1,509) is eighth in the FBS. After opening the season with rushing totals of 145 and 148 yards against Kent State and Cincinnati, Reid reached triple digits only once more (120 against California). His average in the past four games is 64 per game. But possibly his most couragenous play came in the Clemson game when, with a sore ankle, he dived toward the pylon and missed scoring by 2 yards. The trick for Lamar is to give Reid enough rest without compromising the offense by leaving its most productive player on the bench. “When he’s tired and he needs a break, we keep a close eye on it and we get the next guy up,” Lamar said. “When he’s ready to roll, we roll him back in. We stay on top of it.” It’s important for Reid to be honest with Lamar and let him know when he needs a break. “I do trust him for the most part. He’ll let me know when he’s tired,” Lamar said. “It’s not just a situation where he goes until he can’t go (anymore). I have a system. It all depends on what (offensive coordinator Kade) Bell is thinking.” Mumpfield (6-1, 185) has matched his reception total from 2023 (44), with 669 yards and four touchdowns. With two solid games at Boston College and a bowl, he could approach his career high in yards (751 at Akron in 2021). Reid, Mumpfield and Bell have helped Pitt’s offense recover from a dismal 2023 season. Pitt is fifth in the ACC in points (359), thanks in part to the defense scoring five touchdowns. Still, the offense’s 39 touchdowns and an average of 413.9 yards per game is far superior to its 2023 numbers (28 and 317.9). Of course, none of that has been good enough to put Pitt in late-season contention for a berth in the ACC championship game. Injuries along the offensive line, wide receiver and quarterback have contributed to a four-game losing streak that followed the season-opening seven-game winning streak. Part of Mumpfield’s success can be traced to how he tries to keep “negativity out of everybody’s brain.” One of Pitt’s four co-captains, he said breaking the losinsg streak Saturday will require the team to “just be positive, focus and lock onto the little details.” “Come in with the mindset to dominate.” Mumpfield, who might be Pitt’s No. 1 NFL Draft prospect, could have been a candidate to transfer at any point during his three-yeard stay, but he said he never gave it thought. In his mind, loyalty matters. “I’m not going to lie. Once I go somewhere, I don’t really like to leave,” he said. “Even when I was at Akron, I really didn’t want to leave. They fired my whole coaching staff.” At Pitt, he set goals such as the Biletnikoff Award and All-ACC honors, but what he also wanted was “to be the best version of myself. “ “Guys across the building (Steelers coaches and scouts), they look at film, tape and the things you’re doing off the field,” he said. In the end, the quest was just as important to Mumpfield as the result. “Obviously, I want to be the best,” he said. “Sometimes, it doesn’t work out like that.”The FBI released a Thursday after 14 North Koreans were indicted for fraud and theft against U.S. companies and nonprofits, according to an . The bounty? $5 million. It’s a small sum compared to the $88 million the alleged criminals stole during their six-year . The 14 conspirators were nationals of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea posing as American information technology workers. They worked for the DPRK-controlled companies Yanbian Silverstar and Volasys Silverstar, which are located in China and Russia, respectively. The Department of Justice has accused 14 North Korean nationals of conspiring to use false identities to get IT jobs with U.S. companies and siphon money back to their home country, in violation of US, Yid Info reported. — Apex World News (@apexworldnews) The IT workers would steal American identities in order to obtain remote employment from U.S. companies. Some of the workers had orders to earn at least $10,000 per month. To pad their incomes more, they would also resort to extortion. The IT workers would steal sensitive company information and threaten to leak it unless the employer agreed to make an extortion payment. “To prop up its brutal regime, the directs IT workers to gain employment through fraud, steal sensitive information from U.S. companies, and siphon money back to the DPRK,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco. “This indictment of 14 North Korean nationals exposes their alleged sanctions evasion and should serve as a warning to companies around the globe — be on alert for this malicious activity by the DPRK regime,” Monaco said. A federal court in St. Louis, Missouri, indicted the workers on Wednesday. The indictment was the most recent move against the conspirators in a two-year effort to disrupt this particular group, which is just one of many. In January seized $320,000 from the group, then another $444,800 in July. Prior to that, the FBI seized $1.5 million, along with 29 of the group’s internet domains used during their alleged schemes. All 14 North Koreans were charged with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and conspiracy to commit identity theft, according to the FBI release. Eight conspirators are charged with aggravated identity theft. They each face a maximum penalty of 27 years in prison if they are ultimately convicted.
