Artificial intelligence presents a high-risk, high-reward opportunity for businesses. The risks are making many executives nervous. At least 72% of companies temporarily paused their AI and gen AI projects in the past year due to concerns about the potential risks of AI. In addition, only one percent feel fully prepared to adapt to new AI-related laws over the next five years. Plus, 45% believe “there’s better than a one-in-four chance of a major AI incident occurring in the next 12 months.” To address this, attention has turned to “responsible AI,” which is not only seen as a compliance tool, but also as a boost to business. That’s the word from a recent global survey of 1,000 companies, conducted and published by Accenture and Amazon Web Services. The report’s co-authors also point to Fortune 500 companies’ annual reports, in which 56% cite AI as a “risk factor” — up from just nine percent a year ago. Enter responsible AI, part of a movement that seeks to promote actions to design, deploy and use AI to mitigate risk and build trust. The International Standards Organization offers the following definition : “Responsible AI is the practice of developing and using AI systems in a way that benefits society while minimizing the risk of negative consequences. It’s about creating AI technologies that not only advance our capabilities, but also address ethical concerns – particularly with regard to bias, transparency and privacy. This includes tackling issues such as the misuse of personal data, biased algorithms, and the potential for AI to perpetuate or exacerbate existing inequalities. The goal is to build trustworthy AI systems that are, all at once, reliable, fair and aligned with human values.” Does the initiation and support of responsible AI practices help ensure against the technology’s worst abuses? It may help, and there’s another positive side the Accenture/AWS survey finds — responsible AI “contributes to value creation in many ways, ranging from customer satisfaction to product quality,” the co-authors found. FBI Warns iPhone And Android Users—Stop Sending Texts FBI Warns Smartphone Users—Hang Up And Create A Secret Word Now Gmail Takeover Hack Attack—Google Warns You Have Just 7 Days To Act Is it a halo effect taking place — that openly pursuing and demonstrating ethical and responsible AI practices reflects well on a company’s image? Or is it something deeper? Embedding responsible AI practices into technologies and processes may be natural to a forward-looking and responsible overall corporate culture that goes a long way toward delivering both employee and customer joy. The survey found that companies investing in responsible AI expect a majority of executives anticipate total enterprise revenues to “increase by 11% or more over three years with fully developed responsible AI capabilities.” Another 25% say responsible AI practices will help increase customer loyalty and satisfaction and a 21% reduction in customer turnover. This happens because “responsible AI can help ensure AI applications are fair, transparent, and trustworthy,” the report states. Plus, more than half of organizations, 61%, “anticipate a strong or very strong impact from responsible AI on improving contract win rates.” There are internal benefits as well. More than eight in 10 executives, 82%, “expect communicating a mature AI approach to responsible AI will significantly improve employee trust in AI adoption leading to innovation.” Furthermore, they expect a 20% improvement in time-to-hire, a 21% increase in the quality of recruits and a 21% boost in talent retention. The Accenture/AWS authors offer some advice for pursuing the path to responsible AI:
President-elect Donald Trump has continued naming out-of-the-box choices to lead key federal health agencies. Three of those picks — Marty Makary, who would lead the FDA; Jay Bhattacharya, who would head the National Institutes of Health; and Dave Weldon, chosen to administer the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — have something notable in common: All have proposed major changes to the organizations they would oversee. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court heard a case challenging Tennessee’s ban on transgender health care for minors, with the conservative justices seeming likely to support the state’s law. Number of seats: 3 Seats filled: 0 2.30pm: Green Party TD and Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities Joe O’Brien has said that “It’s not going to be a good day for the party”. Judging by latest tallies he is clearly going to lose his seat in the constituency with just 6.2pc of first preference votes. In the 2024 elections tallies have showed he has roughly 1,793 first preference votes so far in comparison to the 8,400 first preference votes he got on the first count back in 2020. Speaking to the Irish Independent at the National Show Centre in Swords he thanked his campaign team for the hard work over the past couple of months. 'I've lost my seat anyway' says outgoing Green Party TD Joe O'Brien "We put an awful lot of work in... we are walking away, a lot of us with essential achievements, and that's what we're gonna hang on to,” Minister O’Brien said. "We hope we retain some few seats so that a lot of the things that we've got done... don't get that slip away in the next door, that would be our concern. "I've lost my seat anyway, and that's very disappointing from my point of view. But as I said, you know, we put a lot of work in,” he added. He said that the redrawing of the constituency definitely hindered his likelihood to retain his seat “losing half of his base”. "We knew that risk, and that's, that's politics, that's the way it goes. Sometimes it seems to be that that's continuing to be the pattern in Irish politics,” he said. "If you're given a mandate by the people, I think you have a responsibility to step up to the place and follow through, regardless of who you may or may not have to collaborate with in government. Election Extra: Shinners surge, shy Fianna Fáilers and Hutch well in contention (Live From The RDS) "Our message will always remain relevant, and we as a group of politicians and activists, will always remain committed, and we'll be there waiting again,” he added. The news comes after Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman confirmed that the party are not performing well so far and expect to retain only roughly 2 or 3 of the 12 seats the previously had. 1pm: The first count has gotten well underway with rumours that we will only get results after 3pm. 11.30am: 100pc of the boxes in Fingal West have been opened and tallied. Here are the final results: The estimated quota for Fingal West is 7,295 Sinn Féin's Louise O'Reilly is still leading the pack but will likely be just shy of making the quota on the first count. Battling it out for the two remaining seats will be Robert O'Donoghue of the Labour Party, Fine Gael's first time candidate Grace Boland and Fianna Fáil's Lorraine Clifford Lee. Final tally results for Fingal West at 11.30am 10.30am: Early tallies in Dublin Fingal West show Sinn Féin's Louise O'Reilly ahead, but with Fine Gael's and Labour's candidates close behind. Over two third of boxes have now been opened. Outgoing Green Party minister of state Joe O'Brien is currently lagging behind but he'll be hoping to see his position improve as more votes from Balbriggan are yet to be tallied. It might be a close race yet for Fine Gael’s Grace Boland and Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford Lee. Calling it now, it looks like Louise O’Reilly might be elected on the first count, all going well for her. Fingal West tallies at 10.30am 10am: The first tallies have come in for Fingal West here is what we know so far.. Leading so far is current TD Sinn Féin’s Louise O’Reilly with 1,705 first preference votes making up 22.3pc of the total votes counted. Rebranding and realityNoneMedtronic announces cash dividend for third quarter of fiscal year 2025One I'm A Celebrity star is tipped to win the 2024 series on Sunday night, after the latest episode of the ITV show. Two campmates took on the latest Bushtucker Trial, and it was another grim eating challenge. But one star even left hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly reeling with his performance. Reverend Richard Coles and Coleen Rooney won full stars for camp. But the final extra task to get a drink for everyone proved too much for Coleen. The pair had to share a vomit-tasting fishbowl and Coleen quickly heaved. Nearly throwing up she called it quits, and urged Richard to do the same if he wanted. But Richard was having none of it and continued to drink the grim beverage, while gagging, leaving Ant and Dec visibly shocked. Soon he made it all the way to the bottom of the glass and consumed the entire thing. Ant and Dec were stunned, praising the star and calling him "a machine". The hosts admitted they'd never seen anything like it on the jungle show, with Dec saying he "went the extra mile". Viewers watching the episode at home were also stunned by his performance, with many calling for him to make the final. Many viewers said this challenge alone was enough to prove Richard deserved to win, calling him the King of the Jungle. One viewer commented: "Rev Richard to win," as another agreed: "Richard needs to win." A third fan said: "REV RICHARD, KING OF THE JUNGLE!! This is legendary." A fourth viewer posted: "Richard deserves to win the entire show for this," as a fifth viewer agreed: "Richard deserves his place in the final!! What a man!! Winner in my eyes." A sixth fan said: "Richard is actually incredible omg," as a final comment read: "Richard is amazing! My winner from day one." It comes as Friday night's episode saw another two stars leave the jungle for good, missing out on a place in the semi-final and the famous Celebrity Cyclone. Ant and Dec announced the result of the public vote, as Coronation Street's Alan Halsall and social media star GK Barry were voted out. Alan shared of his main struggles: "I get very emotional speaking about my daughter. I miss Sienna more than you can imagine." He was able to ask his brother, who visited the camp, how his daughter was doing and if she was watching. GK, real name Grace, revealed the show was "much worse" than she expected. I'm A Celebrity... Texas has nation's top recruiting class after landing elite defensive lineman from GeorgiaA $1,000 investment might not sound like a lot of money to invest, but the power of compounding and the right stock choices can transform this modest sum into a hefty gain over time. It’s all about picking companies with strong fundamentals, a history of growth, and future potential that promises consistent returns. Right now, two Canadian stocks fit this bill perfectly, those being ( ) and ( ). Let’s dive into why these two are worth every penny of your investment. The stocks TFI International, one of North America’s largest trucking and logistics companies, is a perfect example of resilience and growth. Over the past year, TFII’s stock has soared by over 36%, outperforming the broader market. Its recent quarterly revenue of $8.3 billion, with a net profit margin of 5.7%, highlights its ability to maintain profitability even during economic fluctuations. Although quarterly earnings dipped slightly by 4% year-over-year, the Canadian stock’s forward-thinking strategies, such as diversifying operations and embracing technology, point toward a promising future. Meanwhile, WSP Global stands out as a leader in and consulting services, particularly in infrastructure and environmental projects. Over the last year, the Canadian stock climbed by an impressive 33.8%, signalling robust investor confidence. The Canadian stock’s revenue of $15.2 billion in the trailing 12 months reflects 10.7% year-over-year growth. With a quarterly earnings surge of 30.3%, WSP is capitalizing on global infrastructure and sustainability trends. This kind of performance isn’t just a flash in the pan. It’s a sign of long-term growth potential. Compelling choices What makes TFII a compelling buy is its focus on optimizing operations and expanding its footprint across North America. The Canadian stock has a history of acquiring smaller, strategic players in the logistics space, which bolsters its revenue streams and operational efficiency. With a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 19.5, TFII offers a fair valuation given its growth trajectory, and its dividend yield of 1.2% adds a cherry on top for income-focused investors. WSP, on the other hand, is riding the wave of global megatrends like urbanization and green energy projects. Its forward P/E of 27.2 reflects premium pricing. Yet this is justified by its stellar performance and growth prospects. The Canadian stock’s operating cash flow of $1.4 billion and a manageable debt-to-equity ratio of 82% showcase its financial health and ability to fund ambitious projects without jeopardizing shareholder value. Low volatility For those wary of risk, both Canadian stocks exhibit robust management effectiveness. TFII boasts a return on equity (ROE) of 17.5%, while WSP delivers a respectable 9.9%. These figures indicate that your $1,000 investment would be placed in capable hands, with management teams dedicated to generating strong returns on shareholder equity. Furthermore, dividends are always a bonus. TFII offers a forward annual dividend rate of $2.48, translating to a yield of 1.2%, while WSP’s $1.50 forward dividend provides a 0.59% yield. Though not high-yield stocks, these dividends signal stability and commitment to rewarding shareholders – a key factor for those looking to compound returns over time. The future outlook for both stocks looks equally promising. TFII is positioned to benefit from ongoing e-commerce growth and supply chain shifts, while WSP will likely ride the infrastructure spending wave fuelled by government initiatives worldwide. Both Canadian stocks have strategies that align well with long-term economic and environmental trends, ensuring each remain relevant and profitable. Bottom line In conclusion, $1,000 can indeed go a long way when invested wisely. TFII and WSP are not just stocks. These are opportunities to tap into industries that are vital to the global economy. The solid financials, proven performance, and growth potential make them top picks for Canadian investors looking to maximize returns. So why wait? More info Dame Prue Leith has come to the defence of Gregg Wallace, stating he should not be sacked amid allegations of misconduct. The Great British Bake Off star's comments come as Wallace, who has temporarily stepped away from presenting a BBC cooking show , faces historical allegations of misconduct, which are currently under external review. Additionally, the 60 year old has been accused of harassment, including inappropriately touching a woman and making lewd gestures while filming another show. Despite Wallace's lawyers denying the claims, stating it is "entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature", Dame Prue believes that while Wallace should not be sacked, TV bosses should take a firm stance on presenters' workplace behaviour. Speaking on Times Radio, the 84 year old said: "I'm a great believer in due process... He should just stay off social media because he's just digging himself deeper and deeper into a hole because he's too insensitive to understand how offensive it is. But that's his problem, that he's insensitive. He hasn't, that I can see, disobeyed the law. "I don't believe people should be cancelled or sacked. I can see why you would ask somebody to step aside while they investigate things, which I suppose is what they're doing. But I think the tragedy in this is that I bet you Gregg has no idea what he's done wrong." Despite her stance against terminating Gregg's role, Dame Prue Leith concedes that television higher-ups ought to enforce firmer standards on their on-screen talent. She expressed her view to Cathy Newman, asserting: "Yes, very weak. For goodness sake, they can replace Gregg Wallace. They can replace anybody. So they should be tough with their presenters. They should be very clear about whatever the rules are", reports the Mirror . Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages. "I do think they've been weak. But I don't want to say that he should be sacked because I don't know what the crime is." Meanwhile, Gregg Wallace has faced allegations of inappropriately touching someone's rear, an act considered sexual assault. Employees from MasterChef and past participants, including celebrities like Emma Kennedy and Kirsty Wark, have reported feeling uneasy around Wallace on the set. On Wednesday, Shannon Kyle, Wallace's ghostwriter, brought forth allegations during a conversation with Victoria Derbyshire on NewsNight. Wallace has been accused of asking a British Sign Language interpreter to sign inappropriate phrases. An attendee at the BBC Good Food Show alleged that Wallace asked the interpreter to sign "big boobs" and "sexy bum" at the NEC Arena in Birmingham in 2012. "There was a British Sign Language interpreter there and he wandered over to her at one point and just said: 'Do you have to sign everything I say? ' And she said yes, and then he just started saying, 'big boobs', 'sexy bum' – this sort of thing, in order to get her to sign it. It was like he could control her, I suppose," the attendee told the Guardian. Gregg is facing allegations from 13 people across various shows over a 17-year period, as reported by BBC News on Thursday, with many others since sharing their experiences. The presenter is "committed to fully cooperating throughout the process" during the BBC's investigation, according to a statement from the show's production company Banijay UK. He has also stepped down from his role on the show amid the investigation. On Sunday morning, Gregg took to social media to challenge the accusations and claimed they came from "middle-class women of a certain age", leading Ulrika to comment that his "ignorance and arrogance knows no bounds". He later issued a heartfelt apology and announced that he was taking a break from social media. Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here.

Caitlin Clark honored as AP Female Athlete of the Year following her impact on women's sports Caitlin Clark has been named the AP Female Athlete of the Year after raising the profile of women’s basketball to unprecedented levels in both college and the WNBA. She led Iowa to the national championship game, was the top pick in the WNBA draft and captured rookie of the year honors in the league. Fans packed sold-out arenas and millions of television viewers followed her journey on and off the court. Clark's exploits also put other women's sports leagues in the spotlight. A group of 74 sports journalists from AP and its members voted on the award. Other athletes who received votes included Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles and boxer Imane Khelif. Clark’s only the fourth women’s basketball player to win the award since it was first given in 1931. Wemby at The Garden. LeBron vs. Steph. The NBA's Christmas Day lineup, as always, has star power LeBron James made his Christmas debut in 2003. Victor Wembanyama was born 10 days later. That’s right: James has been featured on the NBA’s big day for longer than Wembanyama has been alive. And on Wednesday the league’s oldest player and brightest young star will be big parts of the holiday showcase. It’s another Christmas quintupleheader, with Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs visiting the New York Knicks, Minnesota going to Dallas for a Western Conference finals rematch, Philadelphia heading to Boston to renew a storied rivalry, James and the Los Angeles Lakers taking on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, and Denver playing at Phoenix. Pro Picks: Chiefs will beat the Steelers and Ravens will edge the Texans on Christmas Day Playoff berths, draft positioning and more are up for grabs in Week 17. There’s going to be plenty of football on television this holiday week with the NFL playing games on five out of six days, starting with a doubleheader on Christmas Day featuring four of the AFC’s top five teams. Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs visit Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. Then, two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens take on C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans. The Bears host the Seahawks on Thursday night and there are three games on Saturday, making Sunday’s schedule light at nine games. Falcons drafting Penix no longer a head-scratcher with rookie QB shining in place of benched Cousins It was the most surprising first-round pick in a long time when the Atlanta Falcons chose Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall selection in the NFL draft last April. That came just six weeks after the Falcons had signed free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million in guarantees. But that move is no longer a head-scratcher after Penix's solid starting debut in place of a benched and turnover-prone Cousins. Several teams have fared well with new quarterbacks this season including the Steelers, Broncos, Vikings and Commanders. Lindsey Vonn thinks her new titanium knee could start a trend in skiing. And pro sports in general ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) — Lindsey Vonn thinks her new titanium knee could be the start of a trend in ski racing. The 40-year-old American standout had replacement surgery in April and returned to the World Cup circuit after nearly six years last weekend. She says her knee feels “amazing" and that "it’s something to seriously consider for athletes that have a lot of knee problems.” Her surgery was the first of its kind in World Cup skiing. Vonn had a robot-assisted surgery in April with part of the bone in her right knee cut off and replaced by two titanium pieces. She was planning her comeback a month later. Boise State's legacy includes winning coaches and championship moments No. 8 and third-seeded Boise State is preparing for its third trip to the Fiesta Bowl. This time it's in a playoff quarterfinal against No. 5 and sixth-seeded Penn State on New Year’s Eve. Boise State's first appearance on the national stage was in a memorable victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, 2007. But former coach Chris Petersen said the victory in that bowl three years later over TCU was even more meaningful for the program. Players have mixed feelings about being on the road on Christmas as NFL adds more holiday games OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Games on Christmas aren’t new to the NFL. The Miami Dolphins famously beat the Kansas City Chiefs in a playoff game on Dec. 25, 1971 — a double-overtime classic that still holds the record for the NFL’s longest game. In 2020, New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara tied an NFL record with six touchdowns in a game when the Saints beat Minnesota on Christmas. Lately the league has been much more aggressive about scheduling games on Christmas. That's been met with mixed feelings among the players. Baltimore tackle Ronnie Stanley says there is an offensive line Christmas party planned for Friday at center Tyler Linderbaum’s house. Quarterback Lamar Jackson’s plan is to celebrate on Thursday. Embiid ejected after drawing 2 technicals in game against Wembanyama and Spurs PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was ejected in the first half of Monday night’s game against San Antonio after drawing two technical fouls. Referee Jenna Schroeder ejected Embiid with 2 minutes, 59 seconds left in the second quarter. The seven-time All-Star received the first technical for arguing with Schroeder, and received another technical — and ejection — from Schroeder before any more game time elapsed. Embiid was close to Schroeder, but it wasn’t clear from replays whether he made contact with the official. An enraged Embiid charged toward the officials after the ejection and was restrained by teammate Kyle Lowry, head coach Nick Nurse and several assistants. Nikki Glaser uses Prime Video's NFL postgame show appearances to help prepare for Golden Globes INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Nikki Glaser has become a familiar face to football fans this season. Her breakthrough performance at the Tom Brady Roast on May 5 paved the way for five appearances on Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” postgame show. Glaser said before last Thursday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers that doing her “Late Hits” segment was a no-brainer following her success at the Brady roast. Leaving Thunder, Bucks off the NBA's Christmas game list has those teams feeling snubbed Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference and has a MVP candidate in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Milwaukee has the NBA’s leading scorer in Giannis Antetokounmpo. They were the teams that made their way to the NBA Cup final. By any measure, they’re both very good teams. And neither will play on Christmas Day this year. Bah, humbug. The NBA faces the same challenge every summer, figuring out which 10 teams will get the honor of playing on Christmas Day. But the Bucks and Thunder are right to feel snubbed.RJ Johnson, Daylen Berry lift Charleston Southern to surprising 83-79 victory over Miami
