Pune: The Pune regional transport office (RTO) is likely to begin the online process for replacing the registration plates of more than 24 lakh vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, with high-security ones by mid-Jan to curb vehicle-related crimes, senior RTO officials told TOI on Monday. A total of 24,28,589 vehicles were registered in Pune before April 1, 2019, which would need high-security registration plates (HSRP) as mandated by the state transport department earlier this month. The deadline to complete the process is March 31, 2025, after which those with old number plates will face fines and their vehicles will be denied services like transfer of ownership, among others. "The National Informatics Centre, in coordination with the transport department, is setting up a portal and finalising the flowchart for the process. One has to just log into the website, fill in the required details and pay the fees, following which the appointed agency will manufacture the HSRP for the vehicle owner," Pune RTO Archana Gaikwad told TOI. She said Delhi-based Rosmerta Technologies Limited would manufacture the HSRPs for old vehicles. "The flowchart, on how to go about the whole process, is being finalised. Once the HSRP is made, it will be sent to the dealer who sold the vehicle. It will be the job of the dealer to affix the plate on the vehicle. The entire process from online application to affixing the HSRP on the vehicle is expected to take seven days," Gaikwad said. The RTO said owners of commercial vehicles, registered before April 1, 2019, were also required to follow the process. Motorists, however, questioned the need for HSRPs. "I don't understand the sudden need for high-security registration plates. It will only lead to chaos," Yatish Sarvekar, who bought his vehicles before 2019, said. The primary gas causing climate change is carbon dioxide. This is due mainly to the sheer volume of the gas being pumped into the atmosphere. Very little came from other parts of the landfills. The researchers also found most of the landfills using gas-capturing technology were still emitting measurable amounts of the gas into the air. Romanian politicians have voted in favour of a new pro-European coalition government led by incumbent Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. The move could usher in an end to a protracted political crisis in the European Union country following the annulment of a presidential election by a top court. Parliament approved the new administration in a 240-143 vote in Romania’s 466-seat legislature. The new coalition is made up of the leftist Social Democratic Party (PSD) the centre-right National Liberal Party (PNL), the small ethnic Hungarian UDMR party and national minorities. It caps a month-long period of turmoil in which far-right nationalists made significant gains in a parliamentary election on December 1 a week after a first-round presidential race saw the far-right outsider Calin Georgescu emerge as the front-runner. “It will not be an easy mandate for the future government,” Mr Ciolacu, whose PSD party topped the polls in the parliamentary election, said in a statement. “We are aware that we are in the midst of a deep political crisis,” he said. “It is also a crisis of trust, and this coalition aims to regain the trust of citizens, the trust of the people.” Romania’s 16 ministerial positions will be shared among the parties, which will hold a slim majority in the legislature.
