Manson Market, a notorious dark web marketplace known for facilitating the buying and selling of stolen data, malware, and other illicit goods and services, had been under investigation for several months. The closure of the platform represents a major blow to the criminal underworld, disrupting a network that had been operating with impunity for far too long.
Furthermore, some industry experts believe that the recent interest rate hikes by small and medium-sized banks could be a strategic move to position themselves for potential changes in monetary policy. With expectations of further interest rate cuts or easing measures by the central bank, these banks may be preemptively adjusting their deposit rates to mitigate the impact on their margins and profitability.Off the pitch, there is also pressure mounting on the club's management to address the issues plaguing the team. One particular aspect of Koundé's shooting prowess that has caught the eye of the coaching staff is his ability to strike the ball with both feet. Whether it's a powerful long-range effort with his dominant right foot or a curling shot into the top corner with his left, Koundé has displayed a level of ambidexterity that is rare among defenders. This dual threat has made him a valuable asset during set-piece situations, where his unpredictability and accuracy have caused headaches for opposing defenders and goalkeepers alike.Chen Menglu, the renowned table tennis player and social media influencer, recently shared her insights and predictions for the upcoming Inaugural Lao Wa Cup in a captivating video. A skilled tailor can make a wardrobe seem almost custom-made by taking up a hem, adjusting a cuff, or making a few nips and tucks here and there. The same applies to your portfolio. A standard asset-allocation mix (such as a model portfolio ) may work well for the “average” investor, but one size doesn’t always fit all. Here are some of the situations in which you might want to consider adjusting your portfolio for a better fit. The “bucket approach” is a great way to tailor your asset allocation to better fit your specific needs. The general idea is to keep one to two years’ worth of expenses in highly liquid securities to help meet short-term cash needs (plus an additional five years’ or more worth of living expenses in high-quality fixed-income securities to provide income and stability). That way you won’t have to scramble to sell securities to meet your ongoing expenses. In effect, this approach is a way of building a tailored asset allocation from the bottom up. Similarly, make sure your asset allocation accounts for both longer- and shorter-term goals. If you have upcoming events on the horizon such as a home purchase, college tuition, a wedding, or a big vacation, make sure you have enough of your portfolio in moderate-risk assets (such as high-quality short- or intermediate-term bond funds ) to fund these goals. You have a big chunk of your wealth in company stock It’s far more likely for a single stock to have large losses than a diversified mutual fund, so it’s wise to prune any stock holdings so they make up less than 10% of your portfolio. If you’ve received significant equity awards as part of your total compensation, though, consider how to do so without realizing hefty capital gains. If your spouse is more than five years older or younger than you, your portfolios should probably look a bit different. The younger spouse can afford to have a higher equity weighting and a more aggressive risk profile, while the older one will want to dial back risk. If you hold assets jointly, consider using a blended approach based on the average of your two ages. If you’re fortunate enough to have relatives who lived into their 90s or beyond, it makes sense to plan for a longer-than-usual life expectancy. You can probably afford to take on more risk with more exposure to equities and high-risk assets. From an actuarial perspective, each year you live means your life expectancy gets longer. Some experts (such as Michael Kitces and Wade Pfau) even argue for a “ reverse glide path,” which increases equity exposure as you get older instead of the reverse. On the flip side, if you’re dealing with a terminal illness, make sure to keep your portfolio conservative enough to meet higher-than-expected health care expenses and provide yourself with whatever you might need to make your remaining months and years a little more comfortable. You might want to leave a legacy to your children and grandchildren, but keep in mind that the gift of your time—not money—will probably be the most meaningful. So, don’t feel guilty about spending down your assets if you find yourself in a situation where you need to. You’re worried about not having enough assets to last throughout your lifetime If you weren’t able to save and invest early in your career, your portfolio balance might be relatively low. Taking a hard look at your spending is the most important step you can take in this situation. But while it might be tempting to ramp up your equity exposure to try to make up lost ground, it’s more prudent to take the opposite approach because a small portfolio has less room to absorb market losses. You’re fortunate enough to have a pension or other stable income streams Because a pension is literally a fixed income, it functions like a bond position in a portfolio, so you can afford to increase the equity weighting with your other assets. Social Security works the same way: Your monthly benefits won’t grow beyond a small cost of living increase, but it’s effectively a bond like income stream. Virgo, the week ahead calls for caution in both health and emotional equilibrium at the start. You may feel the pressure of various responsibilities, including the need to strategize against adversaries, settle debts, or tackle legal matters. The tension might make you feel somewhat drained, and ensuring proper rest and relaxation is paramount. As the week moves forward, harmony begins to return to your domestic and marital sphere. The midweek period is kind, bringing better relations among family members and especially strengthening the bond with your spouse or significant other. By the latter part of the week, however, obstacles resurface. Challenges in executing plans, unexpected setbacks, or intrusive individuals could test your patience. Mood swings and lowered energy need to be managed skillfully. The lesson is to maintain equilibrium—do not let sudden hurdles undermine the progress you have made. Love and Relationship: Initially, stress and health issues may cause you to be distant or less responsive to your loved ones. Communication could feel strained, as your mind is preoccupied with pressing matters. Make a conscious effort to explain your situation to your partner, who may be more supportive than you expect. In the midweek phase, a breath of fresh air enters your home. Greater understanding emerges between you and your spouse, igniting feelings of warmth, safety, and affection. If single, you might find comfort in close friends or confidants who know how to soothe your nerves. As the week nears its end, the re-emergence of obstacles and irritations might cast a shadow again. To sustain harmony, keep communicating openly, practice empathy, and remember that setbacks are temporary. Focus on what you’ve built together rather than the momentary frustrations. Education and Career: On the educational and professional front, the start of the week demands a strategic mindset. You could be analyzing ways to outsmart competitors, deal with administrative hiccups, or fulfill challenging academic requirements. Stress and fatigue may hamper your concentration, so plan your schedule carefully. By midweek, stability and calmness return. If working, you may find a supportive colleague or partner who steps in to share the load. Students may benefit from group study sessions or family members who help clarify complex topics. The improved domestic environment feeds into better focus and productivity. However, by the weekend, unwanted disturbances pop up again. This could mean delayed project approvals, technological glitches, or a sudden shift in a team member’s attitude. Persevere with patience—this week tests your resilience. The key to progress lies in being adaptable, even when confronted with delays and unpredictability. Money and Finance: Financially, the early part of the week might bring anxiety. Debts, loans, or pending bills could weigh heavily on your mind. Remember to seek expert advice if needed—don’t shoulder the burden alone. Midweek improvements in your personal life might indirectly help financially. A calmer household fosters clearer decision-making and reduces impulsive spending. You may also discuss money matters with your spouse or a trusted family member who offers sensible advice on saving or investing. By the final days of the week, unpredictabilities arise yet again. Perhaps a planned payment is delayed, an investment doesn’t yield the expected return, or a family expense crops up suddenly. Maintain composure and fall back on your previously devised financial strategies. In the end, careful planning and a focus on long-term stability will carry you through short-term hurdles. Health and Well-Being: Your well-being rides on how well you manage stress, especially at the start. Physical ailments—like headaches, digestive issues, or general fatigue—may surface if you neglect self-care. Since you’re facing pressures on multiple fronts, incorporate relaxation methods: deep breathing, short walks, or a warm bath can help soothe frazzled nerves. Midweek improvements at home translate into mental relief, which also helps your body recover. The sense of support and harmony refuels your energy, leaving you feeling more centered. Keep nourishing yourself with healthy meals and hydration to rebuild strength. By the weekend, though, the return of certain obstacles and annoyances might test your mood once more. This time, rely on the coping strategies you’ve learned. Acknowledge that setbacks are part of the journey and not a permanent state. With patience, a balanced lifestyle, and emotional resilience, you’ll emerge from this week wiser and healthier than before. Discover everything about the Astrology at Times of India .
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The very close election for a North Carolina Supreme Court seat heads next to a hand recount even as election officials announced a machine recount of over 5.5 million ballots resulted in no margin change between the candidates. The statewide machine recount — in which ballots were run again through tabulators — that wrapped up this week showed Democratic Associate Justice Allison Riggs with a 734-vote lead over Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin, who is a Court of Appeals judge. Most county election boards reported minor vote changes from the machine recount requested by Griffin. But State Board of Elections data showed the post-recount lead exactly the same as what Riggs held after all 100 counties fully completed their ballot canvass in November. Griffin led Riggs by about 10,000 votes on election night, but that lead dwindled and flipped to Riggs as tens of thousands of qualifying provisional and absentee ballots were added to the totals through the canvass. Griffin, who already has pending election protests challenging the validity of more than 60,000 ballots counted statewide, has asked for a partial hand-to-eye recount, which county boards will start Wednesday or Thursday. The partial hand recount applies to ballots in 3% of the voting sites in all 100 counties, chosen at random Tuesday by the state board. Once the partial recount is complete, a statewide hand recount would be ordered if the sample results differ enough from the machine recount that the result would be reversed if the difference were extrapolated to all ballots. Riggs, who was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2023 and now seeks an eight-year term, again claimed victory Tuesday. In a campaign news release, spokesperson Embry Owen said Griffin “needs to immediately concede – losing candidates must respect the will of voters and not needlessly waste state resources.” Riggs is one of two Democrats on the seven-member court. Through attorneys, Griffin has challenged ballots that he says may not qualify for several reasons and cast doubt on the election result. Among them: voter registration records of some voters casting ballots lack driver's license or partial Social Security numbers, and overseas voters never living in North Carolina may run afoul of state residency requirements. State and county boards are considering the protests. Griffin's attorneys on Monday asked the state board to accelerate the matters before it and make a final ruling early next week. "Our priority remains ensuring that every legal vote is counted and that the public can trust the integrity of this election,” state Republican Party spokesperson Matt Mercer said in a news release. Final rulings by the state board can be appealed to state court. Joining Griffin in protests are three Republican legislative candidates who still trailed narrowly in their respective races after the machine recounts. The Supreme Court race and two of these three legislative races have not been called by The Associated Press. The key pending legislative race is for a House seat covering Granville County and parts of Vance County. Republican Rep. Frank Sossamon trails Democratic challenger Bryan Cohn by 228 votes, down from 233 votes before the recount. Sossamon also asked for a partial hard recount in his race, which was to begin Tuesday. Should Cohn win, Republicans will fall one seat short of the 72 needed in the 120-member House to retain its veto-proof majority — giving more leverage to Democratic Gov.-elect Josh Stein in 2025. Senate Republicans already have won 30 of the 50 seats needed to retain its supermajority in their chamber. The AP on Tuesday did call another legislative race not subject to a protest, as Mecklenburg County GOP Rep. Tricia Cotham won her reelection bid over Democrat Nicole Sidman. A machine recount showed Cotham ahead of Sidman by 213 votes, compared to 216 after the county canvass. Cotham’s switch from the Democrats to the Republicans in April 2023 secured the Republicans' 72-seat veto-proof majority so that Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s vetoes could be overridden by relying solely on GOP lawmakers. Gary D. Robertson, The Associated Press
LONDON (AP) — An artist whose work exploring her Scottish Sikh identity includes a vintage Ford car draped in a crocheted doily won the U.K.’s prestigious Turner Prize on Tuesday, during a ceremony picketed by pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Jasleen Kaur was awarded the 25,000-pound ($32,000) prize by actor James Norton at the Tate Britain gallery in London. Kaur used her acceptance speech to express support for scores of demonstrators outside. She is among signatories to a letter demanding Tate, which runs several major British art museums, cut ties with donors who are linked to Israel over its war in Gaza. “This is not a radical demand,” Kaur said. “This should not risk an artist’s career or safety. “We need a proper ceasefire now,” she said. The Israel-Hamas war has killed more than 43,000 Palestinians, according to Hamas health officials in Gaza. Israel launched the war in response to the militant group's Oct. 7, 2023 cross-border attack that killed some 1,200 Israelis and took more than 250 hostage. A jury led by Tate Britain director Alex Farquhar praised the way 38-year-old Kaur “weaves together the personal, political and spiritual” through “unexpected and playful combinations of material.” Her winning exhibition mixes sculpture, print, everyday items — including family photos, a Ford Escort car and the popular Scottish soda Irn Bru — and immersive music to reflect on her upbringing in Glasgow’s Sikh community. Three other finalists – Pio Abad, Claudette Johnson and Delaine Le Bas – received 10,000 pounds ($12,670) each. Named for 19th-century landscape painter J.M.W. Turner and founded in 1984 to reward young artists, the prize helped make stars of shark-pickling artist Damien Hirst, potter Grayson Perry, sculptor Anish Kapoor and filmmaker Steve McQueen . But it has also been criticized for rewarding impenetrable conceptual work and often sparks debate about the value of modern art, with winners such as Hirst’s "Mother and Child Divided,” which consists of two cows, bisected and preserved in formaldehyde, and Martin Creed’s “Lights On and Off” -- a room with a light blinking on and off – drawing scorn from sections of the media. In 2019, all four finalists were declared winners after they refused to compete against one another, “to make a collective statement in the name of commonality, multiplicity and solidarity.” In 2021, all five finalists were collectives rather than individual artists. The award was initially open to artists under 50 but now has no upper age limit. Works by the four finalists are on display until Feb. 16.Chelsea and Manchester United, both seeking to strengthen their midfield departments, have also been monitoring Can's situation closely. The versatile midfielder's ability to play in a variety of positions makes him an appealing target for top clubs in need of midfield reinforcements. However, Can's commitment to Dortmund has left these clubs searching for alternative targets in the transfer market.Iran’s annual natural gas production has reached 275 billion cubic meters despite the United States’ unilateral and cruel sanctions, said Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad on Sunday. He emphasized Iran’s strategic focus on leveraging domestic and international capacities to boost gas production, optimize consumption, and improve energy efficiency. The minister also reiterated Iran’s commitment to environmental sustainability. “While maximizing the use of its natural gas resources, Iran remains dedicated to eco-friendly practices.
