In a world of great need there are more ways to donate money than ever. How should you give? The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to reaffirm Boston’s status as a sanctuary city “to protect” immigrants amid President Donald Trump’s vow to carry out mass deportations when he takes office for the second time next month. The 13-0 vote was to reaffirm the Boston Trust Act, which, per the Council’s approved resolution, was first enacted in 2014, later amended in 2019, and “delineates the distinct roles and responsibilities of the Boston Police Department from those of the U.S. Immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE), thereby promoting trust between local law enforcement and immigrant communities.’ The law prohibits Boston Police and other city departments from cooperating with ICE when it comes to detaining immigrants on civil warrants, while still allowing for cooperation in criminal matters like human trafficking, child exploitation, drug and weapons trafficking, and cybercrimes, according to the resolution. “It’s not just a policy, but it is a promise to our immigrant neighbors that they are welcome here, and this is a safe haven, and they don’t have to live in fear of being unjustly scrutinized or even ripped away from their families,” Councilor Gabriela Coletta said at the Wednesday City Council meeting. “As we brace for impact, we’ve got to make sure that we all work together.” City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune, who introduced the resolution and is the first Haitian-American elected to city government in Boston, made similar remarks. “As the national climate grows increasingly hostile towards immigrant populations, we must reaffirm who we are as a city, our leadership role in maintaining a positive and welcoming environment here with our immigrant communities,” Louijeune said. “This resolution is just enforcing what is already on the books and what is already enforced, but I think our immigrant communities need to hear that we, as a Boston City Council, unanimously support them via the Trust Act.” The resolution, co-sponsored by Councilors Julia Mejia and Benjamin Weber, touches more specifically on the changing federal administration sparking the all-Democrat City Council’s decision to reaffirm Boston’s sanctuary status. “In the face of changing federal leadership, the City of Boston must reaffirm our support for the Boston Trust Act to protect our immigrant residents by creating a safe environment where all residents, regardless of immigration status, can report crimes, seek assistance, and live without fear of discrimination or undue scrutiny.” It goes on to state that, “The City of Boston shall continue to monitor and respond to federal immigration policies that may impact its residents, reaffirming its commitment to protect immigrant communities from unjust enforcement actions.” The Council action follows progressive Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu’s declaration last month that the city would look to continue to protect immigrants in “every possible way” under the threat of mass deportations from Republican President-elect Donald Trump, and would not cooperate with efforts that threaten residents’ safety. Wu’s comments caught the attention of Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan, who bashed the mayor for what he saw as her vow to fight federal efforts to eradicate public safety threats, leading to a public squabble between the two. You’ll start Infinity Nikki in a pretty straightforward story, but at its core, it’s a gacha mobile game. That means Infinity Nikki comes with all the expected systems: rolling for outfits, stamina that replenishes over time but has a cap, and some kind of upgrading system. However, as you play, you may wonder what the deal is with all of this. If you’re familiar at all with similar open-world gacha games like Wuthering Waves , Genshin Impact , or Tower of Fantasy , you’ll know that after you catch up to the story, you’ll find yourself in the same gameplay loop. You use your stamina to farm for materials to upgrade your characters and weapons. After beefing things up decently, you’ll start farming for individual equipment pieces that get randomized stats when upgrading — thus creating a somewhat infinite grind. Is this the same in Infinity Nikki ? Well, kind of. (Note that this information is from a closed beta that we played shortly before the game launched, so there may be slightly differing information in the live version of the game.) What’s the combat like in Infinity Nikki? The combat in Infinity Nikki is extremely simple. Nikki can blast orbs at enemies. Most enemies you find around the world can be one-shot, with some needing two hits. There are boss fights where you’ll need to dodge attacks, wait for an opening, and then attack at the right time — but there’s no way to get through these fights any quicker by dealing more damage. Nikki’s attacks appear to do a set value and you don’t upgrade her gear to dish out more damage. So why am I leveling up my outfits in Infinity Nikki? You do need to beef up Nikki’s clothes for a different reason. Rather than adding offensive stats to clothing, you’ll need to upgrade its visual stats in order to complete more difficult styling duels. You’ll need to complete a few lower-level styling duels as you play through the story, but there are several optional factions to take on around the world. You’ll be presented with challenges, and after completing enough of them, you’ll be able to take on a big boss for rewards like Diamonds (the premium currency) and even recipes to craft more clothes. Some of the early styling duels can be done with default clothes at low levels, but you will need to improve your stuff in order to fully complete some of the later duels. This is where the gameplay loop comes in. You can only upgrade your clothes so much, and you’ll need to raise your Mira Level (your player level) to lift that upgrade cap. Spending stamina (called “Vital Energy”) and completing quests will net you loads of EXP to raise your Mira Level. Are there randomized stats and equips I need to ‘farm’ in Infinity Nikki? Not really . There’s additional equipment called “Eureka” that you’ll want to collect to further your styling duel points. These are collected via spending stamina at warp spires and you can level them up to add more stats to them. While their color will randomly change when they’re maxed out, it didn’t appear that the stats “rolled” randomly the way that stats do in the aforementioned gacha games, so you can safely just grab one of each (or more, if you want a specific color), without having to farm these for ages. So, no, there are no randomized stats, but yes, there are equips you’ll want to collect. In a way, you are doing the aforementioned gameplay loop that lines up with those other open-world gacha games. You are leveling up gear and whatnot, though the method, reason, and grind is just quite different. That is to say, you don’t really have to do any of this. You can spend your time collecting Whimstars, catching bugs, and completing side quests while largely ignoring this component of the game, if you’re not into the grind or the min-max — but the styling duels are a major component of the Nikki franchise and you won’t be able to make the iconic miracle outfit without taking on the faction leaders. You will need to make the miracle outfit to hit the final points of the game (as of launch), though you can enjoy your time in Mira Land doing other stuff, if you so prefer. If you’re looking for more info about Infinity Nikki , we have a beginner’s guide , a list of codes , and a guide noting where to unlock more clothes . Article content Morgan Rielly might not have lost much sleep when he was left off Canada’s roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off. Recommended Videos While the Maple Leafs defenceman said he will use his exclusion as motivation, there are other things on his mind. “I look at my own game, and assess there,” Rielly said on Friday morning. “You believe in yourself.” And what does Rielly see in evaluating his overall performance as he was one of six Leafs to play in all 25 games before Toronto played host to the Washington Capitals on Friday night? “I feel really good now,” Rielly said. “I think that the start (of the season) I felt really good, and then I became a little bit inconsistent. “I feel like I’m primed right now to have a great month going into Christmas.” For Rielly, and the Leafs as whole, the concentration through the first few months of the 2024-25 regular season has been getting accustomed to what coach Craig Berube wants out of his players. In the defence-first system, those with an offensive bent might find the adjustment to have more challenges. “With a new coach, I was maybe really focused not on the wrong stuff, but trying to get this stuff down pat, trying to be really good defensively,” Rielly said. “I don’t think I’ve been as dangerous offensively because of that, but I’ve been feeling really good the past couple games.” Rielly’s ice time has decreased, but he still is playing more than 21 minutes a game. His career average is 22 minutes 10 seconds. Berube took a longer view in his assessment of the 30-year-old Rielly, the longest-serving current Leafs player. “He has done a good job for us, in my opinion,” Berube said. “He’s used to really getting up into the play, and he still does. I think he’s picking his spots really well with that and defending well.” Crucial to keep in mind as Rielly and the Leafs round into Berube’s form is that they’ve been winning while learning on the job. No one would say the Leafs have been playing perfect hockey, but if it’s about the build to being at their best once the playoffs start in April, the Leafs are going about it the right way. “You can’t lose track of that and that’s big,” Rielly said. “I looked this morning at the standings, and we’re in a great spot. There have been been nights where it hasn’t been as pretty, or there have been periods of time where we haven’t generated offence like we have in the past, but you can’t argue with the results. “In general, I don’t think we’ve tried to reinvent the wheel. But it helps when the big guys buy into it. Everything else seems to follow.” Rielly has proudly worn Canada’s colours in the past. From afar, he’ll cheer on Leafs teammate Mitch Marner and the rest of the group once the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal and Boston gets underway on Feb. 12. “In regard to the Team Canada stuff, I wish I was a bit more consistent (in his play earlier),” Rielly said. “But I’m not really making excuses. “It’s always a great honour to play for your country, and you’re always trying to perform well enough to get that opportunity again.” tkoshan@postmedia.com X: @koshtorontosunDown 29%: Buy this cheap ASX stock for a 10% dividend yield
zkMe Network Celebrates Second Anniversary, Announces Strategic Ecosystem Rewards Program for 2025 12-02-2024 11:58 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance Press release from: Getnews / PR Agency: LianPR Image: https://www.getnews.info/uploads/8c93e174729b63b281265de5934ee77c.jpg zkMe [ https://www.zk.me/ ] Network celebrates its second anniversary with significant ecosystem growth and technological advancement, marking the occasion with the launch of a strategic ecosystem rewards program and plans for a comprehensive tokenomics model in 2025. The platform enables users to authorize multi-chain applications with a single verification, serving as an all-in-one identity solution across chains.Through its decentralized node network, zkMe Network ensures transparent verification processes while allowing users to maintain control of their data and earn rewards from credential sharing. As the Web3 industry navigates increasing regulatory requirements, with the EU's MiCA regulations taking effect in 2025, zkMe's zero-knowledge proof technology continues to set the standard for privacy-preserving compliance solutions. The platform's innovative approach has earned recognition from leading investment firms, securing over $6 million in total funding, including a recent $4 million seed round led by Multicoin Capital with participation from OKX Ventures and Robot Ventures. "In the digital age, privacy data may be your most valuable personal asset," states Alex Scheer, Founder and CEO of zkMe. Born in Germany, Alex's vision for data sovereignty emerged from deep reflection on digital privacy. "Every day, we leave digital footprints through transactions, investments, and social interactions in the blockchain ecosystem. While these activities create value, they can also become vulnerabilities that expose our personal information. This profound understanding of digital privacy challenges drove our team to establish zkMe as a global privacy solution," Alex explains. Perhaps what's most striking about zkMe is the team's approach to building. "Think of us as modern digital craftsmen," Alex shares with enthusiasm. "We have the precision of German engineering but move at Web3 speed. While others might focus on crafting fancy narratives, we hands-on build identity infrastructure that deploys advanced identity solutions across 20+ major blockchain networks. Self-sovereign identity, value-generating data sharing, and decentralized privacy are not just goals-they're our foundations." In crypto, you need to be fast AND flawless - that's the standard we've set for ourselves." This patient, methodical approach has served them well in an industry often characterized by hype cycles. The team's market assessment quickly proved accurate. "The market response has been remarkable," Alex explains. "We're seeing users actively seek out our privacy-preserving solution, especially given their growing concerns about identity data breaches. Leading investors have also recognized this potential, backing our vision with their support. These strong signals confirm what we believed from the start - that decentralized identity verification would become essential for the future of Web3." zkMe has established partnerships with more than 70 Web3 projects across various sectors, including Real-World Asset (RWA) integration, On-and-Off-ramps platforms such as Plume and Xion Global, as well as DeFi and Gaming Infrastructure projects like KyberSwap, Hinkal, Singularity, and CARV. The platform's mobile application has reached 33,090 downloads and processed over 660,000 user attestations, demonstrating strong user adoption and market demand. The company's technological infrastructure features several key innovations: Zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP): A decentralized identity network powered by zero-knowledge proofs, enabling private verification while meeting compliance requirements Reusable credentials: An all-in-one identity verification solution that unlocks multi-chain application access with just one verification zkMe Identity Network [ https://www.zk.me/zkkyc]: A decentralized network that ensures transparent verification processes while allowing users to control their data and earn rewards from credential sharing Looking ahead to 2025, zkMe will introduce a comprehensive tokenomics model that aligns ecosystem value with participant contributions. The platform has developed a strategic framework that focuses on three key pillars: * Early supporters will receive ecosystem rewards through a structured incentive mechanism * Active users will gain priority rights in future value distribution events * Data contributors will benefit from a sustainable value-sharing system The robust technological foundation enables zkMe to deliver unique value across the entire Web3 ecosystem. For users, the platform ensures true data sovereignty, enabling both secure verification and value capture through reusable credentials. Projects benefit from streamlined compliance infrastructure that dramatically reduces KYC costs while eliminating data breach risks. Meanwhile, developers can leverage a comprehensive SDK and API suite for rapid ecosystem integration and expansion. As zkMe marks its second anniversary milestone, the platform acknowledges the crucial role of community support in its development journey. The upcoming year promises to be transformative, as the maturation of tokenomics and decentralized governance structures will usher in a season of unprecedented rewards for early contributors. Through these concrete actions, zkMe demonstrates that in this era of possibilities, privacy and compliance are not mutually exclusive choices but complementary forces driving industry advancement. "We're not just solving current identity verification challenges," Alex emphasizes, outlining a grander vision. "Through self-sovereign identity management, users will actively match services and discover opportunities, truly creating value from their own data. This embodies the real spirit of Web3 - decentralization and anonymity while giving users complete control over their digital assets and identity data." Doug Burgum will be the governor for only 11 more days. Despite this, he was obliged to deliver a budget address to a joint session of the North Dakota Legislature, which is in Bismarck meeting for its organizational session. ADVERTISEMENT This makes no sense. The budget address represents Burgum's priorities, which, while there is no doubt a significant amount of overlap, are not necessarily those of Gov.-elect Kelly Armstrong, who voters chose to replace Burgum in November. Which means that Burgum's address to lawmakers was a colossal waste of time. This isn't Burgum's fault, as, again, the budget address is obligatory, but the degree to which he indulged himself during the speech sure is. Burgum joked at the beginning of the address that he'd been given an hour to speak but would talk for as long as he wanted to anyway. Boy, did he, speaking for nearly one hour and 45 minutes. No wonder this guy has had such a rocky relationship with the Legislature (you can watch the full address here). Burgum's speech was one part self-congratulatory victory lap and one part detailed budget proposal. The latter is pointless because, again, Burgum will only be in office for 11 more days, so the whole thing was an exercise in Burgum patting himself on the back. Don't get me wrong, Burgum has accomplished some meaningful things during his time in office and deserves credit for them. He was also, I'll admit, open-handed with his praise for other state officials and the lawmakers. I don't want to come off as mean. Anyone familiar with my work knows I've been deeply disappointed with Burgum since he decided to further his political career by betraying his moderate inclinations and going full-on MAGA. It's just that I'm not sure going the better part of an hour over the schedule with a superfluous budget address is all that couth, whoever it is that's doing it. ADVERTISEMENT And I'm not sure why we're spending time and taxpayer dollars on a budget address that, as a practical matter of policy, doesn't amount to a hill of beans. It's time for lawmakers to put an end to this, so that in four years hence (or eight years, if he's reelected) we're not subjected to outgoing Gov. Kelly Armstrong standing before the Legislature delivering a budget address that may or may not reflect the priorities of his just-elected successor. We need to shake up the timing so that we aren't wasting time on a pointless budget address from a lame-duck governor who won't be involved in the budget and policy decisions of the upcoming legislative session. Section 54-03.1-02 of the North Dakota Century Code requires the Legislature to meet for an organizational session no earlier than Dec. 1 and no later than Dec. 15 of even-numbered years. In cycles when we elect a new governor (or reelect an incumbent), the swearing-in happens on Dec. 15. It seems like we could tweak this timing. Maybe the law could establish the swearing-in date for new governors as the first day of the organizational session. However we do it, we should ensure that the person delivering the budget address — who spent what is likely a not-small amount of state resources on crafting the complicated speech — is the same person who will be in office while the budgets and policies for the next biennium are set.49ers rule out Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa; QB Brandon Allen to start at Green Bay

Mark Konezny-Imagn Images/File Photo San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and top backup Jordan Mason are being placed on injured reserve. McCaffrey left the snowy field in Buffalo on Sunday night after a 5-yard gain that was preceded by him heading to the sideline in apparent pain at the end of an 18-yard run. McCaffrey was diagnosed with a posterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and did not play in the second half. The 49ers also lost Jordan Mason, who emerged in a starting role with McCaffrey out the first two months of the season, to an ankle injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Mason has a high-ankle sprain, which typically requires a recovery window of 4-6 weeks. Those moves push rookie Isaac Guerendo into the RB1 spot. He scored the team's only touchdown at Buffalo. The IR slots in San Francisco are manned by multiple starters, including wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and safety Talanoa Hufanga. Mason had a team-leading 789 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns. Being placed on IR means he's not eligible to play until the regular-season finale at Arizona. McCaffrey had 53 yards on seven carries on Sunday night and caught two passes for 14 yards before exiting. He was playing in just his fourth game of the season after missing the first eight because of Achilles tendinitis. McCaffrey was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year last season, when he led the league with 2,023 yards from scrimmage: a league-leading 1,459 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns plus 67 catches for 564 yards and seven scores. McCaffrey hasn't scored a touchdown in his four appearances this season. He has rushed for 202 yards on 50 carries and caught 15 passes for 146 yards. "It was frustrating," Shanahan said after the game. "He had a great week of practice and I could feel his urgency and stuff and thought he came out great, looking really good, and it looked like he just got his shoestring there. ... I hurt for him, and tough for our team not having him." The 49ers (5-7) played without defensive end Nick Bosa (oblique) and left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) in the 35-10 loss. San Francisco has lost three in a row heading into next Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears (4-8) in Santa Clara, Calif. San Francisco resides two games behind the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks (7-5) with five games remaining on the schedule. Seattle and San Francisco split their season series. --Field Level Media REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you. A pair of New England senators are calling on the Biden administration to make it clear that the U.S. military should not be used against U.S. citizens except under the most dire circumstances. U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), said in a letter that it’s imperative that President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin issue a policy directive informing U.S. troops of their obligations to disobey unlawful orders and laying out when a president may lawfully order the troops to act against their fellow Americans. “It’s long been the law that the military should not be used on U.S. soil, except under extraordinary circumstances. Donald Trump campaigned on using our military to go after the ’ enemy from within ,’ so it’s important for President Biden to clarify the Defense Department’s policies. The Trump administration will need to justify any expansion of the military’s role against its fellow citizens,” Warren told the Herald. In the letter, the pair say that Biden’s directive should make clear that U.S. law “prohibits the mobilization of active duty military or federalizing National Guard personnel to be deployed against their fellow Americans unless specifically authorized.” Use of federal troops in domestic law enforcement operations is outlawed under the Posse Comitatus Act , unless authorized by Congress or the president invokes the Insurrection Act . There too, the senators write, Biden should clarify to the troops what that law permits. “We urge you to issue a policy directive that makes clear that the narrow application of the Insurrection Act should be limited to instances when State or local authorities are so overwhelmed and that the chief executive of the State requests assistance or attacks against the U.S. government overwhelm State or local authorities,” they wrote. Even if troops are called to duty under presidential authority, the current president should explain that they still must follow “the Standing Rules for the Use of Force and cannot violate the writ of habeas corpus, federal law, or where applicable, federal or state law.” The pair say their letter serves as direct acknowledgment of the incoming Trump administration. “President-elect Trump’s comments have indicated he could invoke the Insurrection Act ‘on his first day in office’ He has called his political opponents ‘the enemy from within’ and said they ‘should be very easily handled by — if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military.’ When asked to clarify these remarks in late October, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance reiterated that President-elect Trump would use force against Americans,” they wrote. Trump, the senators write, has a history of attempting to turn the military against civilians in response to protests or “to advance the president’s political interests,” and the only barriers in the way during his last term were members of his administration and their allegiance to the rule of law. Now, however, the U.S. Supreme Court has made clear that a president is immune from criminal liability for “official acts.” Not immune from prosecution, the senators say, are the members of the military who might be ordered to carry out unlawful acts. After the high court’s decision, what precisely would constitute an unlawful order is an open question, and Biden should provide some clarification before he’s not in a position to offer it anymore. “Given the disagreement amongst scholars on the serious implications of the recent Supreme Court decision, it is reasonable to assume that service members, other DoD personnel, and the broader military community may not be aware of or fully understand their rights and responsibilities. If unaddressed, any ambiguity on the lawful use of military force, coupled with President-elect Trump’s demonstrated intent to utilize the military in such dangerous and unprecedented ways, may prove to be devastating,” they wrote. A policy directive issued by Biden could be overturned by Trump when he takes office.Powell: Fed's independence from politics is vital to its interest rate decisions
