Malware on your smartphone? How to detect it and tips to fix itMISSOULA — The Montana football team will tackle a schedule unlike any other in recent memory during the 2025 season. The Grizzlies will play 12 consecutive games without a true bye week and will be the first-ever FCS team to play eight regular-season home games. Their bye falls in Week 1, which is a result of scheduling all four nonconference games at home while working around the Big Sky Conference slate. They start with four home games beginning in Week 2 on Sept. 6 and will play six of their first seven games in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. They don't leave the state until they hop on a bus to Pocatello, Idaho, for an Oct. 4 game. They won't get on a plane until their Oct. 25 game in Sacramento, California. The Griz will play just three teams that finished with a winning record in the 2024 season. Only two of those teams are FCS programs as the other one with a record above .500 is from the NCAA Division II level. Only one of those two FCS teams are currently slated to have the same head coach in 2025. Vs. Central Washington The Wildcats went 8-4 overall and were eliminated in first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. They played one FCS team, losing 26-7 on the road against San Diego, which plays in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League. Chris Fisk has been the head coach since 2019. Montana is 3-0 all-time against Central Washington, last playing in the spring 2021 season. Vs. North Dakota The Fighting Hawks went 5-7 overall and 2-6 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference to finish in a tie for eighth place. They missed the playoffs and will have a new coach with Bubba Schweigert out. They hired Eric Schmidt, an All-American linebacker for UND who most recently was the San Diego State defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. This is the second game in a home-and-home series. The first game took place in 2024 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Griz lost 27-24 as they were outscored 20-0 in the second half. They'll have an opportunity for revenge in Missoula. Montana is 15-10-1 all-time against UND. Vs. Indiana State The Sycamores went 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference to finish in a tie for sixth place. They missed the playoffs, but they did win their most games since going 5-6 in 2021. Curt Mallory has been the head coach since 2017. This is the second game of a home-and-home series. The Griz won the first game 49-14 in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 2022. Montana is 1-0 all-time against ISU. Vs. Idaho The Vandals finished the season 10-4 overall and went 6-2 in the Big Sky to finish in a tie for third place. They lost twice to Montana State (FCS playoff No. 1 seed), once to Oregon (FBS playoff No. 1 seed) and once to UC Davis (FCS playoff No. 5 seed). They were knocked out in the quarterfinals for the second season in a row under third-year head coach Jason Eck. He left the day after the season ended to be the head coach at FBS New Mexico. Idaho hired former assistant Thomas Ford to replace Eck after he spent 2024 at Oregon State. The Vandals lose All-Big Sky first-team defensive linemen Keyshawn James-Newby (graduation) and Dallas Afalava (portal), first-team linebacker Jaxton Eck (portal), All-Big Sky receivers Jordan Dwyer (portal) and Mark Hamper (portal), and starting quarterback Jack Layne (portal). Montana and Idaho didn't play in the 2024 season. The Vandals are the only current Big Sky team the Griz have an all-time losing record against; Montana is 32-55-2. At Idaho State The Bengals went 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky to finish in a tie for sixth place. They missed the playoffs under second-year head coach Cody Hawkins. It was their best record since going 6-5 in 2018. Their five wins matched the total number of victories they had across the 2021-23 seasons. All-Big Sky first-team receiver Christian Fredericksen exhausted his eligibility. Montana and Idaho State didn't play in the 2024 season. The Griz are 48-13 against the Bengals and have won 15 consecutive games in the series. Vs. Cal Poly The Mustangs went 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big Sky to finish in 10th place. They missed the playoffs under second-year head coach Paul Wulff. They've had identical 3-8 records in those two years for a total of 6-16. All-American defensive lineman Elijah Ponder exhausted his eligibility. Montana is 19-5 against Cal Poly and has won four consecutive games in the series. Vs. Sacred Heart The Pioneers went 5-6 overall and didn't defeat a team that finished the year with a winning record. They missed the playoffs. Mark Nofri has been the head coach since 2012. The 2024 season was their first as an FCS independent after they left the Northeast Conference. Their other sports moved to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, which doesn't sponsor football. This will be the first meeting between Sacred Heart and UM. At Sacramento State The Hornets went 3-9 overall and 1-7 in the Big Sky to finish in tie for last place in coach Andy Thompson's second year leading the program. They missed the playoffs after winning a postseason game in 2023. Thompson, a former Griz linebacker on the 2001 national championship team, stepped down with an 11-14 record in two seasons. He joined former Sacramento State coach Troy Taylor at Stanford as the assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. The Hornets hired UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion to replace Thompson. All-Big Sky honorable mention running back Elijah Tau-Tolliver transferred to Michigan State after the season. The Hornets lost quarterback Kaiden Bennett to the portal; he started in 2023 and two games in 2024 before an injury. Montana and Sacramento State didn't play in the 2024 season. Montana leads the all-time series 21-4. The Griz last won a game in Sacramento, California, in 2013. It's their second-longest road drought against a current Big Sky team. At Weber State The Wildcats went 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky to finish in a tie for sixth place under second-year head coach Mickey Mental. They went 1-5 after upsetting Montana 55-48 in overtime in Missoula and missed the playoffs. It'll be a revenge game for the Griz, who also lost their last road game against Weber 24-21 in 2022. Starting quarterback Richie Munoz, All-Big Sky second-team running back Damon Bankston and all-conference honorable mention defensive end Brayden Wilson entered the transfer portal. Wilson landed at Wyoming. Montana leads the all-time series 40-17 but has lost three consecutive games to Weber State. The Griz last won a game in Ogden, Utah, in 2012. It's their longest road drought against a current Big Sky team. Vs. Eastern Washington The Eagles went 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky to finish in a tie for sixth place. They missed the playoffs under Aaron Best, who has been the head coach since 2017. He has gone 52-40 and has had two seasons with a winning record, most recently in 2021. Two-year starting quarterback Kekoa Visperas, who led the FCS in completion percentage, left via the portal and transferred to Tennessee Tech. He was an All-Big Sky honorable mention in 2023. All-American wide receiver Efton Chism III exhausted his eligibility. Montana leads the all-time series 31-18-1. This past year, the Griz won a game in Cheney, Washington, for the first time since 2008. At Portland State The Vikings went 3-8 overall and 3-5 in the Big Sky to finish in a tie for sixth place. They missed the playoffs under Bruce Barnum, who is 38-64 as the head coach since taking over in 2015. Portland State has had just one winning record under Barnum, when it went 9-3 in 2015. Three-year starting quarterback Dante Chachere, an All-Big Sky honorable mention in 2024, exhausted his eligibility. Montana leads the all-time series 35-13 and have won five consecutive games against PSU. Vs. Montana State The Bobcats are 15-0, won the Big Sky title for the second time in three years and are in the FCS national championship game for the second time in four seasons under fourth-year head coach Brent Vigen. They'll play North Dakota State on Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas. They'll try to become the third-ever D-I team to go 16-0, which would equal records by 2019 NDSU and 1894 Yale. They'll have several key players run out of eligibility after this season, including quarterback Tommy Mellott, the Big Sky offensive player of the year, and defensive end Brody Grebe, the Big Sky defensive player of the year. Whether Vigen returns or parlays his success into another job has yet to seen. His departure could lead to anticipated returners hitting the portal. Montana leads the all-time series 74-43-5 but has gone 2-6 in the previous eight meetings.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Only the Cleveland Browns. Only a team beset by perpetual problems at quarterback for the better part of two decades can get a record-setting 497-yard, four-touchdown, jaw-dropping, where-did-that-come-from performance on Monday night from Jameis Winston — and still lose. History wrapped in misery. Only the Browns. Winston spoiled a high-level performance in Denver's thin air by throwing a pair of pick-sixes — the second with 1:48 remaining — as the Broncos rode big plays to a 41-32 win over the Browns (3-9), who have to wonder what their disappointing season might look like if Deshaun Watson had been benched before getting hurt. The loss ended any illusions the Browns had of making a late playoff push like they did a year ago. It also clinched the team's 22nd losing season since its expansion rebirth in 1999. In his fifth start this season, Winston provided further evidence that the Browns made a major mistake by not switching QBs long before Watson ruptured his Achilles tendon on Oct. 20 against Cincinnati. Cleveland's offense has come alive behind Winston, who has thrown for over 300 yards three times, something Watson didn't do in 19 starts over his three suspension-shortened, injury-riddled seasons with the Browns. While there were some positives, Winston's turnovers were too costly. "You’re not going to play perfect at the quarterback position. He knows that," coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday on a Zoom call. “I know that ultimately he wants to do anything in his power to help this team win and that’s going to be taking care of the ball. But he also had moments there where he was moving that offense and did a nice job.” Winston may not be the long-term answer for the Browns, but he's showing he can at least give them a viable option for 2025 while the club sorts through the tangled Watson situation, which continues to have a stranglehold on the franchise. In all likelihood, and assuming he's fully recovered, Watson will be back next season in some capacity with the Browns, who are still on the hook to pay him $92 million — of his fully guaranteed $230 million contract — over the next two seasons. Releasing Watson would have damaging salary-cap implications, and while that would be a bitter financial pill for owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam to swallow, it could the Browns' safest and easiest exit strategy. And if they needed any proof that such a strategy can work, the Browns only had to look across the field at the Broncos, who got out from under QB Russell Wilson's monster contract by cutting him, taking the financial hit and drafting Bo Nix. After some common early growing pains, Nix has settled in and the rookie has the Broncos in the mix for a postseason berth. It wasn't long ago that the Browns thought their quarterback concerns were behind them. Instead, they lie ahead. Stefanski's decision to hand over the play-calling duties to first-year coordinator Ken Dorsey has been a positive. While the move hasn't led directly to many wins, the Browns have moved the ball much more effectively and scored at least 20 points in three of five games since the switch after not scoring 20 in their first eight. An issue all season, Cleveland's defense was again gashed for long plays and TDs, including a 93-yard scoring pass in the third quarter. The Browns have allowed 48 plays of 20-plus yards and 12 of at least 40 yards. WR Jerry Jeudy. His return to Denver was a personal and professional triumph — except on the scoreboard. Vowing revenge on the Broncos, who traded him to the Browns in March, Jeudy had the best game of his career, catching nine passes for 235 yards and a TD. Since Winston took over as Cleveland's starter, Jeudy leads the league with 614 yards receiving. Jeudy just might be the No. 1 receiver the Browns have needed following Amari Cooper's trade. Jordan Hicks gets an honorable mention after recording 12 tackles. K Dustin Hopkins. He missed a 47-yard field goal to end Cleveland's first drive, setting the tone for a night of missed opportunities. After making 33 of 36 field goal tries in his first season with the Browns, Hopkins is just 16 of 23, with his inaccuracy raising questions why the team signed him to a three-year, $15.9 million contract in July. Stefanski had no updates from the game. ... LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah remains sidelined with a neck injury suffered on Nov. 2. Stefanski ruled him out again for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh. 552 — Yards of total offense for the Browns, just 10 shy of the single-game franchise record set in 1989. A short turnaround before visiting the Steelers (9-3), who will be looking to avenge their 24-19 loss in Cleveland on Nov. 21. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

49ers claim RB Israel Abanikanda off waivers from JetsCanadian Prime Minister Trudeau flies to Florida to meet with Trump after tariffs threat WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has flown to Florida to have dinner with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club after Trump threatened to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian products. Joining Trump and Trudeau at dinner were Trump's picks for commerce secretary, interior secretary and national security adviser, and the three men's wives. From the Canadian side, the dinner guests included Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, whose responsibilities include border security. Trump’s transition did not respond to questions about what they had discussed or whether the conversation alleviated Trump’s concerns about the border. A smiling Trudeau declined comment upon returning to his West Palm Beach hotel late Friday. Emboldened 'manosphere' accelerates threats and demeaning language toward women after US election CHICAGO (AP) — An emboldened fringe of right-wing “manosphere” influencers has seized on Donald Trump’s presidential win to justify and amplify misogynistic derision and threats online. Many have appropriated a 1960s abortion rights rallying cry, declaring “Your body, my choice,” and have been using it publicly on college campuses and even in public schools. While none of the current online rhetoric is being amplified by Trump, experts say many young men see the former president’s return to the White House as vindication of their views on women. For many women, the words represent a worrying harbinger of what might lie ahead as some men perceive the election results as a rebuke of reproductive rights and women’s rights. Syrian insurgents are inside Aleppo in a major setback for Assad as government forces regroup BEIRUT (AP) — Thousands of Syrian insurgents have fanned out inside Syria's largest city Aleppo a day after storming it with little resistance from government troops. Syria's army said troops have redeployed to prepare for a counteroffensive. Witnesses said insurgents were seen Saturday at landmarks in Aleppo for the first time since 2016, when they were expelled by government forces backed by Russia and Iran. The surprise offensive is a major embarrassment for Syrian President Bashar Assad, who has regained total control of the city eight years ago. Israeli strike in Gaza allegedly kills workers with World Central Kitchen charity DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — An Israeli airstrike on a car in Gaza has killed five people, according to a senior Palestinian health official. An aid worker says three of the people killed were employees of the charity World Central Kitchen. The charity's aid delivery efforts in Gaza were temporarily suspended earlier this year after an Israeli strike killed seven of its workers. Israel's military says it struck a wanted militant who had been involved in the Hamas attack that sparked the war. In a later statement, it said that the alleged attacker had worked with WCK and it asked “senior officials from the international community and the WCK administration to clarify” how that had come about. Lebanese fisherman hope ceasefire with Israel means normal life returning TYRE, Lebanon (AP) — The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah is bringing hope for normality back to many in southern Lebanon. That includes fishermen who’ve long launched their single-engine wooden boats into the Mediterranean at dawn. For months, Israel imposed a siege that kept hundreds of fishermen at this ancient Phoenician port ashore. That upended their lives and dealt the industry a major blow. The port siege also cut people off from key ingredients for traditional Lebanese dishes. As war devastated their country, the loss of fish damaged a deep association with home. Now, the possibility of renewed fishing is helping fuel hope. How Brazilian police say Bolsonaro plotted a coup to stay in office SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil’s Federal Police have formally accused former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro and 36 others of plotting a coup to keep him in office. The plot was allegedly comprised of several components and substantiated by evidence and testimony in the agency's 884-page report. The pieces of the puzzle include laying the groundwork by systematically sowing distrust of the electoral system among the populace. It also includes drafting a decree to give the plot a veneer of legal basis and pressuring top military brass to go along with the plan. Bolsonaro and his main allies have denied any wrongdoing or involvement and accuse authorities of political persecution. More than 100 arrested as Georgian police clash with protesters over suspension of EU talks TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — More than 100 demonstrators were arrested overnight in Georgia as protesters clashed with police following the government’s decision to suspend negotiations to join the European Union, the country’s Interior Ministry said. Friday marked the second straight night of protests after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze of the country’s ruling Georgian Dream party announced the suspension the previous day. The Associated Press saw protesters in Tbilisi being chased and beaten by police as demonstrators rallied in front of the country's parliament building. The violence follows Georgian Dream’s disputed victory in the Oct. 26 election, which was widely seen as a referendum on the country’s aspirations to join the European Union. Romania's parliamentary vote risks being overshadowed by presidential race chaos BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romanians are preparing to go to the polls in a parliamentary vote that will determine a new government and prime minister to lead the European Union and NATO member country. However, Sunday's vote is sandwiched between a two-round presidential race and is overshadowed by controversies and chaos following the outcome of the first vote. While the president has significant decision-making powers in areas such as national security and foreign policy, the prime minister is the head of the nation’s government. Sunday’s vote will determine the formation of the country’s 466-seat legislature. North Korea's Kim vows steadfast support for Russia’s war in Ukraine SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country will “invariably support” Russia’s war in Ukraine as he met Russia's visiting defense chief. A Russia military delegation led by Defense Minister Andrei Belousov arrived in North Korea on Friday as international concerns about the two countries’ expanding cooperation deepened after North Korea sent thousands of troops to Russia. During a Friday meeting, Kim and Belousov reached “a satisfactory consensus” on issues on how to further boost strategic partnership and defend each country’s sovereignty and security interests, state media said. Great Lakes, Plains and Midwest forecast to be hit with snow and dangerous cold into next week BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The first big snow of the season has the potential to bury towns in New York along lakes Erie and Ontario during a hectic holiday travel and shopping weekend. Forecasters says winter storm conditions could persist into next week and cause hazards in the Great Lakes, Plains and Midwest regions. Forecasters predict 4 to 6 feet of blowing and drifting snow could fall in Watertown and other areas east of Lake Ontario through Monday. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a disaster emergency in affected areas.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The very close election for a North Carolina Supreme Court seat heads next to a hand recount even as election officials announced a machine recount of over 5.5 million ballots resulted in no margin change between the candidates. The statewide machine recount — in which ballots were run again through tabulators — that wrapped up this week showed Democratic Associate Justice Allison Riggs with a 734-vote lead over Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin, who is a Court of Appeals judge. Most county election boards reported minor vote changes from the machine recount requested by Griffin. But State Board of Elections data showed the post-recount lead exactly the same as what Riggs held after all 100 counties fully completed their ballot canvass in November. Griffin led Riggs by about 10,000 votes on election night, but that lead dwindled and flipped to Riggs as tens of thousands of qualifying provisional and absentee ballots were added to the totals through the canvass. Griffin, who already has pending election protests challenging the validity of more than 60,000 ballots counted statewide, has asked for a partial hand-to-eye recount, which county boards will start Wednesday or Thursday. The partial hand recount applies to ballots in 3% of the voting sites in all 100 counties, chosen at random Tuesday by the state board. Once the partial recount is complete, a statewide hand recount would be ordered if the sample results differ enough from the machine recount that the result would be reversed if the difference were extrapolated to all ballots. Riggs, who was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2023 and now seeks an eight-year term, again claimed victory Tuesday. In a campaign news release, spokesperson Embry Owen said Griffin “needs to immediately concede – losing candidates must respect the will of voters and not needlessly waste state resources.” Riggs is one of two Democrats on the seven-member court. Through attorneys, Griffin has challenged ballots that he says may not qualify for several reasons and cast doubt on the election result. Among them: voter registration records of some voters casting ballots lack driver's license or partial Social Security numbers, and overseas voters never living in North Carolina may run afoul of state residency requirements. State and county boards are considering the protests. Griffin's attorneys on Monday asked the state board to accelerate the matters before it and make a final ruling early next week. "Our priority remains ensuring that every legal vote is counted and that the public can trust the integrity of this election,” state Republican Party spokesperson Matt Mercer said in a news release. Final rulings by the state board can be appealed to state court. Joining Griffin in protests are three Republican legislative candidates who still trailed narrowly in their respective races after the machine recounts. The Supreme Court race and two of these three legislative races have not been called by The Associated Press. The key pending legislative race is for a House seat covering Granville County and parts of Vance County. Republican Rep. Frank Sossamon trails Democratic challenger Bryan Cohn by 228 votes, down from 233 votes before the recount. Sossamon also asked for a partial hard recount in his race, which was to begin Tuesday. Should Cohn win, Republicans will fall one seat short of the 72 needed in the 120-member House to retain its veto-proof majority — giving more leverage to Democratic Gov.-elect Josh Stein in 2025. Senate Republicans already have won 30 of the 50 seats needed to retain its supermajority in their chamber. The AP on Tuesday did call another legislative race not subject to a protest, as Mecklenburg County GOP Rep. Tricia Cotham won her reelection bid over Democrat Nicole Sidman. A machine recount showed Cotham ahead of Sidman by 213 votes, compared to 216 after the county canvass. Cotham’s switch from the Democrats to the Republicans in April 2023 secured the Republicans' 72-seat veto-proof majority so that Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s vetoes could be overridden by relying solely on GOP lawmakers.Reliance Inc. CEO Lewis sells $1.26 million in stock

Over recent months, there have been many rumors about there being mutual interest between the Raiders and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Owner Mark Davis speaking with the quarterback at a Las Vegas Aces game certainly helped fuel the rumors and so have some of the comments made by the Sanders family . However, the one thing that was giving these rumors the most life was Sanders' social media activity. Prior to Week 12, Sanders had posted "Thank you GOD" on X after every Raiders loss . Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images However, it may have simply been a coincidence. Sanders posted the same message again on X on Sunday but did it during the first quarter of the Raiders game against the Denver Broncos. Raiders fans who are hopeful that the team will draft Sanders were very disappointed that the "myth is debunked," as The Athletic's Tashan Reed posted . to early bro FML #RaiderNation https://t.co/3HZUvVJVzQ While many Raiders fans were concerned that this meant that Sanders wasn't eyeing Las Vegas, some fans pointed out that he posted it shortly after the Tennessee Titans won, which improved the Raiders' position in the draft. Compared to fertility treatments done a decade ago, today the technology has improved, giving rise to improved success rates. Earlier women dealing with low ovarian reserve, medical conditions like Premature Ovarian Insufficiency, were often advised to go for a donor cycle. However, there could be techniques like Ovarian PRP & Stem cell therapy leading to rejuvenation which if proven beyond its experimental stage, may benefit women facing low ovarian reserve. Times Now Digital spoke to Dr Sonia Malik, Chief Clinical Mentor at Nova IVF Fertility, about Ovarian PRP Rejuvenation and how it is beneficial. Ovarian PRP Rejuvenation: What Is It?Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a platelet concentration obtained from an individual's blood. Growth factors that promote tissue regeneration and repair are abundant in platelets. In order to potentially increase the quality and number of eggs produced, ovarian PRP rejuvenation involves injecting PRP directly into a woman's ovaries. It works on the principle that in women who generally suffer with low ovarian reserve or age-related reduction in fertility, the growth factors in PRP may help repair ovarian tissue, boosting the natural process of egg formation. Who Can Benefit from Ovarian PRP?The primary patients for ovarian PRP treatment are women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) or diminished ovarian reserve (DOR). POI can cause early menopause, especially in women under 40, while DOR is the early loss of viable egg production by the ovaries. Bhubaneswar, Nov 30 (PTI) A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused opposition parties of conspiring against the country, the Congress, BJD and BJP on Saturday engaged in a war of words in Odisha, each blaming the other. Senior BJD leader and party’s deputy leader in the Assembly, Prasanna Acharya, alleged that the BJP government in the state had done nothing in the last five months, except for changing the colour of buildings. “In the last five months, the BJP government changed the names of 22 schemes that were earlier launched by the BJD government,” Acharya said. He also pointed out contradictions in the PM’s stand, noting that Modi had once praised BJD and its leader Naveen Patnaik for adhering to the federal system. “The PM himself praised Naveen Patnaik in Parliament and said the BJD government follows the federal system the most. Now, he is claiming that the previous government had changed central schemes. Modi is changing his stand,” Acharya remarked. Referring to Modi’s claim that the Centre was giving priority to Odisha, Acharya said, “He made the same claim when he visited Telangana and Maharashtra. If Odisha is a priority, then why is the coal royalty not being revised?” He emphasised that the central assistance Odisha received over the years was its rightful due, not the PM’s mercy, adding, “It is given according to the federal system.” In response, BJP leader and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari rejected Acharya’s allegations. He pointed out that Odisha had financially benefitted after Modi’s amendment of the MMDR Act in 2014 and the revision of rules under the Company Act. “The state received huge revenue from mining, and companies were forced to spend on corporate social responsibility,” Pujari said. He also highlighted that the Modi government had allocated significantly more for the railway sector in Odisha compared to the UPA government. “While the previous UPA government sanctioned a maximum of Rs 1,000 crore annually for the railway sector, the NDA government led by Modi has allocated around Rs 10,000 crore annually for railways in Odisha,” Pujari added. Meanwhile, Congress leader and former OPCC president Jaydev Jena accused the Prime Minister of attempting to mislead the people of Odisha with claims of development, while the new BJP government had done little in the past five months. He cited the deaths of three tribal women from hunger, stating, “The BJP has put Odisha on the world map for the deaths of three tribal women due to hunger in 2024.” Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam demanded a special package for Odisha, similar to the ones given to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh by the NDA government. “We will admit that Modi gives priority to Odisha if he announces a special package for the state,” Kadam said. State Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan lashed out at Congress, accusing the party of becoming “anti-India.” He said, “If someone speaks anti-national words abroad, criticises the Prime Minister, and speaks against the country’s development, it suits Congress.” Harichandan further claimed that Congress was “paralyzed” across the country and had lost its ability to function. “Now, Congress is trying to walk by holding the stick of small regional parties, but its nature does not change,” he added. In response to BJP’s attacks, Congress’ student and youth wing staged a protest on Saturday against Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Odisha. Marching toward the Lok Seva Bhawan, where the All India DGP/IGP Conference was taking place, the protesters raised slogans against the declining law and order and increasing unemployment rates in the state. Yasir Nawaz, former Chhatra Congress president, said, “We demand an answer from the PM and Home Minister on the declining law and order situation in Odisha and the lack of action against the governor’s son, who is accused of physically assaulting a government servant. Efforts are being made to suppress our voices, but our strike will continue until PM Modi and Amit Shah assure us of when the law and order situation in the state will be under control.” In response, Harichandan called the Congress protest “unfortunate,” adding, “This shows that Congress is going against the country, against development, and against the people. While Odisha is drawing attention from the entire country, they are staging demonstrations and making hateful statements against the Prime Minister and Home Minister.”. “One day, I receive a call from an unfamiliar number. “Hello, is this Dasho Dzongda?” I responded, “Yes, I am Dorji Dhradhul, Dzongda. May I ask who’s calling?” “Kuzuzangpola. I am Ms. Dagom, the person who supplied blankets and mattresses to the Bjishong school.” “Oh. Yes, I recall. I trust you have received your payment. I remember signing the cheque a few weeks ago.” To my astonishment, she responds,“Actually. No Dasho. That’s why I am reaching out to you. I was hoping you could assist me in receiving my payment.” I was taken aback and perplexed. I distinctly remember signing the check after being reminded by the same person. I concluded the conversation by promising her that the payment would be made by the latest, the next day. Subsequently, I contacted the accountant responsible for this. Unsure of what response I might receive, I questioned, “Kuchum. Was the payment for the blankets and mattresses supplied to Bjishong school not processed? I recall signing the check quite some time ago.” To my surprise, Kuchum responded, “No La. The cheque is still with me la. The supplier hasn’t come to collect it yet.” Stunned, I thought to myself, “This is ludicrous. Unbelievable.” On the verge of losing my patience, I firmly communicated to her, “How could you retain the cheque for such a lengthy period? She should have been notified as soon as the cheque was ready. You must remember, we are here to provide services. This implies we shouldn’t wait for our clients to claim these services. We need to be proactive. It’s absolutely acceptable to offer services even if they haven’t been requested. I want you to immediately contact the supplier and arrange the delivery of the cheque. This directive should also be shared with all other account personnel for strict adherence.” I acknowledge that it’s also the client’s responsibility to follow up. Thus, the client too shares part of the blame for not pursuing the matter...” – This is an excerpt from a chapter titled “Delayed Service, Service Denied” in my book, “Hercules of Tongchudrak...Learnings to unlearn and relearn to build a great Nation.” Many years ago, as part of a team from the Ministry of Timeliness, we arrived at a meeting venue half an hour early as instructed. However, our meeting started almost four hours late. We waited inefficiently without any updates on when our agenda would begin. In another instance, an organization lost my letter with original receipts and asked me to resubmit them weeks later. Similarly, after waiting weeks for a response to my application, I was told to submit additional documents, which I could have provided much earlier if informed. I experienced numerous times, when I had to send reminders for response to my submission or for appointments. Such situations of not respecting set schedules, losing documents, and overvaluing the service providers’ time over that of the clients can lead to frustration, unnecessary costs and opportunities lost to the service seekers. While I have no study to back up, I hear that these are some reasons pushing out our aspiring younger lots to other countries. In this article, I try to suggest that we could overcome these issues by becoming more sensitive to the idea that “Time” is precious to everyone. Respecting time as a valuable resource for everyone can make a significant difference in public service delivery. Timeliness in public service delivery means providing services within a reasonable time frame, without unnecessary delays. It involves responding promptly to the needs and requests of service seekers, processing applications and documents quickly, giving decisions or informing how long it will take for the decisions and delivering services and benefits in a timely manner. Despite its importance, timeliness is often overlooked or taken for granted in our public service delivery. Many times, service providers take their own time in responding the call of service seekers, assuming that the latter have the luxury of time. Unfortunately, the reality could be otherwise, meaning time could be many times more precious to the service seekers. This will be more serious, if the service seeker is an ordinary person from another dzongkhag. ? Timeliness is crucial for building trust and credibility between the service seekers and the service providers. When public services are delivered on time, it demonstrates that the governance is efficient, responsive, and reliable. Service seekers are more likely to trust and have confidence in a service provider that respects their time and promptly addresses their needs. We have heard of stories how individuals, organizations and even countries are being compared on the promptness of their services. Conversely, delays and inefficiencies can erode public trust and confidence, leading to dissatisfaction and frustration. Timely delivery of public services directly contributes to public satisfaction. Public expect prompt responses and swift resolution of their issues when they approach public service providers. When these expectations are met, it leads to higher levels of satisfaction and positive perceptions of public services. On the other hand, delays can lead to dissatisfaction, complaints, and negative perceptions, which can harm the reputation of public institutions. Delays in public service delivery can cause significant stress and inconvenience for citizens. For example, delays in processing applications for social services, loans, licenses, various approvals, recommendations can lead to increased social, emotional, health and financial burdens. By delivering services on time, public service providers can alleviate stress and reduce the inconvenience faced by citizens and significantly contribute in alleviating the GNH. y Timeliness is also linked to the overall efficiency and productivity of public service delivery. When services are delivered on time, it indicates that processes are well-organized, resources are effectively utilized, and staff are performing their duties efficiently. Timely delivery helps to streamline operations, reduce backlogs, and avoid the accumulation of pending work. This, in turn, enhances the overall productivity of public service institutions. Timely public service delivery plays a crucial role in promoting economic development. For instance, timely issuance of business licenses, permits, and approvals can facilitate business operations, attract investments, and stimulate economic growth. Delays in these processes can hinder business activities, discourage investments, and negatively impact the overall economic environment. We have made significant advancements in infrastructure, systems, institutions, and technology, comparable to anywhere else in the world. Our policies and strategies are up to date, geared towards improving public service delivery, including the timeliness of services. Key initiatives include: Simplified procedures and reduced administrative complexities, making public services more accessible. Operational online platforms for permits, licenses, and loans, reducing wait times and improving service efficiency. Continuous investment in training public service employees to ensure they are well-equipped to deliver services effectively. Establishment of clear turnaround times (TAT), performance targets, and accountability measures to ensure high standards of efficiency. Systems for better coordination and collaboration among agencies One-stop service center offering a range of services under one roof, reducing time and effort for citizens. Mechanisms for engaging citizens and gathering feedback to improve public services. Despite these advancements, service seekers more often than not remain dissatisfied, suggesting room for improvement. What is the missing link? Could it be one’s attitude and mindset? Time is precious to everyone. Embracing a culture of punctuality, responsiveness, mindfulness, while discarding habits of complacency, indifference, and procrastination will significantly elevate public service delivery. This immediate response demonstrates respect for the service seeker’s time and helps them to move forward without unnecessary delays.
