Sound point Meridian Capital director buys $10,132 in stockWASHINGTON , Dec. 16, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the agency's efforts to enable broader use of space, NASA has released its final goals and objectives for low Earth orbit, defining the long-term approach toward advancing microgravity science, technology, and exploration for the benefit of all. Developed with input from a wide range of stakeholders, NASA's Low Earth Orbit Microgravity Strategy will guide the agency toward the next generation of continuous human presence in orbit, enable greater economic growth, and maintain international partnerships. "As we near the retirement of the International Space Station in 2030, these objectives are a pivotal next step in solidifying U.S. leadership in space," said NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy . "Our consultation with industry, academia, and international partners has helped refine a visionary roadmap for our future in low Earth orbit, which will be enabled by a continuous human presence. Together, we are ensuring that the benefits of exploring space continue to grow – advancing science, innovation, and opportunities for all, while preparing for humanity's next giant leap of exploring the Moon, Mars and beyond." In early 2024, NASA initiated a planning process that included drafting an initial set of goals and objectives for the low Earth orbit microgravity environment and seeking feedback from its workforce, government partners, industry, academia, international space agencies, and the public. The agency reviewed more than 1,800 comments and hosted two workshops , resulting in essential adjustments to the goals and objectives to better align with its partners. The final framework includes 13 goals and 44 objectives across seven key areas: commercial low Earth orbit infrastructure, operations, science, research and technology development for exploration, international cooperation, workforce development and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) engagement, and public engagement. The agency's efforts in low Earth orbit are integral to its broader ambitions for deep space exploration. The microgravity environment in low Earth orbit provides a cost-effective, easily accessible proving ground for technologies and research necessary for human missions to explore the solar system. With most of the journey to Moon and Mars occurring in microgravity, the objectives give the opportunity to continue vital human research, test future exploration systems, and retain the critical skills needed to operate in the microgravity environment. "These finalized objectives represent a clear path forward as NASA transitions from the International Space Station to a new era of commercial space stations," said Robyn Gatens , director of the International Space Station and acting director of commercial spaceflight. "Low Earth orbit will remain a hub for scientific discovery, technological advancement, and international cooperation, while making strategic investments in a commercial space ecosystem that benefits not just NASA, but the entire space community." The low Earth orbit microgravity goals and objectives, combined with significant stakeholder engagement, drive NASA's need to maintain an unbroken, continuous heartbeat of humans in the commercial low Earth orbit destinations era. NASA requires long-duration flights to mitigate risk for future trips to the Red Planet. To ensure reliable access to and use of low Earth orbit, a diversity of providers operating on a regular cadence is essential. The objectives will also guide the development of requirements for future commercial space stations that will support NASA's missions, while reducing risk for human missions to Mars, preserving operational skills, advancing critical scientific research, and sustaining engagement with international and commercial partners. "Collaboration and consultation remain a cornerstone of our low Earth orbit strategy," said John Keefe , director of cross-agency strategy integration at NASA. "The objectives we've established will help NASA craft a work plan that ensures NASA is positioned to meet current and future needs and prioritizes the development of critical capabilities for low Earth orbit." Sky News host Peta Credlin has launched a scathing attack on Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto following his defamation loss to independent MP Moira Deeming. Justice David O'Callaghan on Thursday found Mr Pesutto defamed Ms Deeming by painting her as a Nazi symathiser in comments following a 2023 women’s rally Ms Deeming attended which was gatecrashed by neo-Nazis. The judge awarded Ms Deeming $300,000 in damages as he delivered his decision in Melbourne's Federal Court. Mr Pesutto refused to resign from the Liberal Party in the aftermath of the case, vowing to “continue in this role, now more than ever”. Credlin has hailed the “massive win” for Ms Deeming, who had been expelled from the Victorian Liberal partyroom in the aftermath of the rally, but said she believes Mr Pesutto's position to be "untenable". Credlin argued the claims against Ms Deeming should “never have been made” and condemned Mr Pesutto for showing himself to be a "weak little man”. “The job of a party leader is not to be easily intimidated by an opponent that peddles lies; it's your job as leader to stand up to those lies, stand up for your team, particularly when your own side is unfairly under attack,” she said. Credlin said Victoria “desperately needs change” of leadership but this would require the Liberal Party to “offer a viable alternative”. She argued Mr Pesutto may have been capable of redemption if he was willing to accept his wrongdoing to Ms Deeming, reinstate her and apologise but said this was unlikely to happen. "It can't happen to a man that's been hit with a slam dunk as he has been by the judge and still thinks he's the bloody messiah,” she said. “If the Liberal Party in Victoria wants to be worthy of the very name, it has to find a new and better leader, if it wants to turn this around, it has to find a new and better leader, If it wants to restore faith, it has to find a new and better leader. “Today, Pesutto denied his position was untenable – but as things stand, it's the Liberal Party's position that's now untenable, with a Leader who makes things up, who damages people; and who won't apologise or make amends, even when he's found out in a court of law." Credlin said if she were on the Liberal frontbench, she would resign because, “my integrity would be worth more than any title that man could offer me”. “In all good conscience I could never serve under any leader who uses the slur of Nazism to try and destroy another Liberal and then is found by courts to have defamed someone using those words." In paragraph 696 of the judgment, Justice David O'Callaghan said Mr Pesutto’s “urgency” to publish claims against Ms Deeming was “driven more by a fear of the political damage that would be inflicted” on his leadership by then premier Daniel Andrews than by his “professed concern that the party and the parliament would be brought into disrepute”. “So, reckons the judge, the Victorian Liberal leader made untrue and highly damaging claims against a colleague in order to save himself from political attack,” Credlin said. “That, and these are my words, he was so spooked by Daniel Andrews – as every Liberal in this bloody state – that he threw Deeming under the bus in order to save his own skin – and in the process, has done vast damage to an innocent woman's reputation.”CargoSprint Acquires Advent eModal
True Pwr LLC: Leading The Charge In Solar Energy Solutions In MurrietaAs wars tend to do, the battle over Ukraine continues to escalate. It was reported this week that North Korean soldiers in the conflict total 10,000 thus far and that Russia has rewarded Pyongyang by sending its excellent air defense systems to the Korean Peninsula in exchange. Last month, the National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, warned that any North Korean troops fighting in the conflict would be, “fair game and fair targets.” His green light delivered this week when “a high-ranking North Korean military officer [became] a casualty” according to a Wall Street Journal story on Thursday. That strike was allegedly conducted with British Storm Shadow missiles. Just these recent events further entangle the U.S., U.K., North Korea, South Korea, and China within the Russia-Ukraine conflict. But the week’s biggest Ukraine news rattled many Americans — the Biden administration authorized Ukraine to strike targets within Russia with the American-made Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS). “The missiles will speak for themselves,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy boasted. They sure will. First of all, the U.S. doesn’t have many of the $1.3 million missiles to lob around. U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Commander Admiral Samuel Paparo warned an audience at the Brookings Institute this week that the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are “now eating into stocks ... and to say otherwise would be dishonest.” I’ve met and been briefed by Admiral Paparo, who is one of the most positive and straight-talking flag officers in our military. If he is publicly ringing the warning bell, U.S. policy leaders should take heed. Putin did not take the news of the ATACMS well. In response, he announced the use of a hypersonic ballistic missile on Thursday, carefully noting that it didn’t carry a nuclear warhead. The unspoken part: next time, it might. What’s the goal in Biden’s escalation? It seems the White House is trying to prevent the inevitable or blame Trump for Ukraine’s upcoming defeat. What they won’t admit is that the metrics of the war are not in Ukraine’s favor , and frankly never have been. No supersonic missile will change the immutable: Russia boasts a population five times Ukraine’s and when it comes to war materiel, Russia is winning. Despite Biden’s attempt to hobble the Russian economy, Putin’s war industry is outproducing the West by three times in the basic munitions needed to prosecute a land battle. But aren’t Russians dying en mass on the battlefield? Western leaders keep touting Russia’s high death toll, which estimates now place at 600,000. To military strategists here in the United States, such a human cost is unimaginable. Add up every American combat death going back 160 years through the Gulf Wars, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, World War II, World War I, and even the Union combat deaths in the Civil War, and the number does’t reach what Russia has lost in the past 1,000 days. American and NATO leaders are foolish to underestimate Russian resolve. Since its initial blundering and poorly-executed invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has recovered from its mistakes, Russian public support for the war remains high , and the Russian economy hasn’t fallen apart. Putin may have lost the virtue-signaling battle of Ukrainian flag lapel pins, but make no mistake: he’s on a path to win the war. Biden’s deputy Pentagon press secretary, Sabrina Singh, says don’t worry . On Thursday she told reporters the administration was sending as much American weapons and support to Ukraine as it can muster, “in the weeks and months ahead left of this administration. So, that’s what we’re really focused on.” What did she make of Putin’s nuclear threat? “I mean, you know, we’ve seen this type of, you know, dangerous, reckless rhetoric before from President Putin,” Singh said. “I mean, you know?” No, we don’t know. The world hasn’t seen nuclear threats like this since Harry S. Truman demanded Japan surrender. For anyone worried about the state of our national security, January 20th can’t come quickly enough. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork said Thursday that he is "absolutely" confident that Ryan Day will be back as football coach in 2025. Calls to fire the sixth-year coach rose among Ohio State fans after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the fourth straight year. Bjork, in an interview on 97.1 The Fan, said Day is the man for the job, regardless of how the Buckeyes perform in the College Football Playoff. They host Tennessee in a first-round game Dec. 21. "Coach Day is awesome," said Bjork, who came from Texas A&M to replace the retiring Gene Smith last summer. "He's great to work with. He totally gets it. He loves being a Buckeye. So, we're going to support him at the highest level." The 13-10 loss to Michigan followed by an ugly melee between the teams put the coach in a precarious spot. He and his team were booed off the field by the home fans. Bjork ended up releasing a statement expressing his support for the coach. "The reason we had to say something after (the Michigan) game is, we're still breathing, we're still alive," Bjork said. "The season's not over. The book is not closed." Thanks to the playoff, Day has a chance to redeem himself with Ohio State's huge fanbase with a win against the Volunteers — and perhaps more in the 12-team tournament. Regardless of what happens, Day will be back next year, according to Bjork. "Coach Day and I just hit it off so well," Bjork said. "I've been really, really impressed. Every single time I talked to him, I learn something. He's innovative. He recruits at the highest level. He's got a great staff." Day wouldn't directly address his job status last weekend. "When you first come off those types of things, there's a lot of emotion," he said, referring to the Michigan loss. "And then as time goes on, you've got to get refocused because you know what you've done in the past does not affect what's going on moving forward. Everything is out in front of us." Failing to consistently beat Michigan is one of the few flaws in Day's coaching record. Hired as a member of coach Urban Meyer's staff in 2017, Day was the hand-picked successor when Meyer retired after the 2018 season. Compiling an overall 66-10 record, he is widely admired in the coaching community. "Great respect for what he's done in his coaching career, what he's done there at Ohio State and the success that they've had year-in and year-out," Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said. Day is in trouble now because losing The Game is considered an unforgiveable sin by Buckeyes fans. "What we have to do is this whole 'championship or bust' mentality, you want that as the goal, but it has to be about the process," Bjork said. "To me, we've got to maybe change some conversations a little bit. I think we need to maybe just approach things a little bit differently."
