A day after Jagjit Singh Dallewal was discharged from the Ludhiana hospital, the convener of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) sat on fast-unto-death at the Khanauri border point to press for the acceptance of farmers’ demands. Dallewal replaced Sukhjit Singh Hardojhande, who on Saturday ended his fast-unto-death, which he began on November 26. The decision to end Sukhjit’s fast was taken during a meeting of farmer leaders of Samyukta Kisan Union (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) at the border point. Hours before beginning his fast-unto-death on November 26, Dallewal was whisked away from the Khanauri border by police and taken to a hospital in Ludhiana. He was discharged on Friday evening. “Since Dallewal has come back to the protest site and is continuing his fast-unto-death therefore there is no point for Sukhjit Singh to continue his. He had to start his fast-unto-death because Dallewal was detained by Punjab Police,” said Sarwan Singh Pandher, KMM convener. The protesting farm unions on Saturday called off their scheduled gherao of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Sangrur on December 1. Farmer leader Kaka Singh Kotra said that the gherao of CM’s residence was announced to press for the release of Dallewal from the hospital. “Gherao of CM’s residence on December 1 was only for the release of Dallewal. Now that he has reached the Khanauri border and is continuing his fast-unto-death therefore, we are calling off our protest outside CM’s residence in Sangrur,” Kotra said. Farmer unions said that they will now focus on their march to Delhi on December 6. Meanwhile, the KMM held a meeting at the Shambhu border point in connection with their march to Delhi on December 6. KMM leader Pandher asked farmers to reach the Shambhu border point in large numbers. The farmers have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after their march to Delhi was stopped by security forces. The protesters have accused the Centre of not taking steps to address their demands, claiming that it has not held any talks with them on their issues since February 18. Besides a legal guarantee for MSP, the farmers are demanding implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pension for farmers and farm labourers, farm debt waiver, reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation to the families of farmers who died during a previous agitation in 2020-21. AAP govt failed to give MSP on paddy: Jakhar Chandigarh: The Punjab state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar on Saturday asked the farmers to raise their voices against the Punjab government’s ‘failure’ to procure paddy on MSP. In a post on X, Jakhar stated that once again state’s farmers are at a crossroads due to the inefficient administration of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government. He slammed Punjab government for its failure in awarding MSP on paddy despite the centre government having timely given ₹ 44,000 crore for the same. He added that the farmers suffered a cut from ₹ 200 to ₹ 350 per quintal. Calling upon the opposition Congress to raise its voice, Jakhar said that despite such mayhem of non-procurement and non-lifting in the markets across Punjab, Congress distanced itself from the issue. “Instead of acting like a responsible opposition, Congress chose to maintain a stoic silence over the issue. We need someone to raise voice for the underprivileged sections of society and now is the time for farmers to raise their pitch,” he said.KUWAIT: The 45th GCC summit due to be held in Kuwait on Sunday, with the attendance of top leaders or representatives, is yet a new gathering of such level to bolster sustainable development, regional security and stability. The summit, the 8th to be hosted by Kuwait, aims at capitalizing on achievements made over the past years, examining plans for a more stable and prosperous future and taking unified stands vis-a-vis mounting regional threats. The summit at Bayan Palace will address regional security, bolstering pan-GCC economic merger and plans to face regional and international challenges. The leaders will look into schemes for overhauling the joint market, enhancing technology cooperation, infrastructural linkups and a host of political files, namely Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq and relations with regional and international powers. The GCC, founded in 1981, holds annual sessions and strives to enhance cooperation among the member states in various fields. It groups Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. Kuwait Task Force (Khaleej) is fully ready to protect and ensure the safety and security of the delegations of the 45th Session of the GCC Supreme Council, the force’s commander Brig Saad Mubarak said. In a statement to KUNA on Saturday, Brig Mubarak said the force had been preparing for the event after the Cabinet issued an order to task the National Guard with protecting security during the summit. The force had set a complete security plan for the Sheraton, St Regis and Four Points hotels, he noted. Deputy commander Col Mutar Bader told KUNA that the force will facilitate the delegations’ entry to the hotels, while also setting checkpoints for vehicles and baggage inspection. The National Guard will use top-notch and well-developed equipment to prevent any sabotage attempts, including surveillance cameras and communication devices, he said. Kuwaiti political and academic figures affirmed that the 45th GCC summit would be held amid extremely sensitive and difficult regional and international challenges. The experts said in statements to KUNA on this occasion that the summit comes to emphasize the importance of enhancing joint action between GCC countries in response to current changes that require unified positions to ensure the sustainability of security and development in the region. They expressed their visions on the importance of this summit, stressing the role played by the GCC summits in confronting current crises and enhancing the position of the council, focusing on economic, political and security issues imposed by exceptional circumstances. Former GCC Secretary General Dr Abdullah Bishara said the holding of this summit comes at a time when the world is witnessing serious and unpredictable challenges. He stressed leaders of the GCC countries are aware of these challenges as they are following up on regional and international developments that require them to take necessary decisions. Professor of Sociology at Kuwait University Dr Mohammad Al-Rumaihi said the GCC, since 1981, has been contributing to preserving the stability of the region from unsafe circumstances such as the Iraqi-Iranian conflict, as well as the occupation and liberation of Kuwait, the Arab Spring, the COVID pandemic and multiple other conflicts in the region. Professor of Sociology and Anthropology and Director of Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Center at Kuwait University Dr Yagoub Al-Kandari said Kuwait has always strived to achieve some balance through diplomatic mediation in crises, making the location of this summit appropriate to enhance cooperation, achieve solidarity and overcome differences. Al-Kandari stated the GCC countries face a set of regional and international issues, notably the Palestinian issue and the Zionist occupation aggression on Lebanon, which requires more coordination to confront these challenges. He expressed hope that the outcomes of this summit would focus on the economic situation, which is heading towards more global changes, to achieve more accomplishments in various fields. — KUNA

Bold Kieran Tierney call flies in face of Arsenal hashtag but Arteta decision 'not what it seems'The NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA) has launched a new podcast that covers a rarely discussed element of life in residential and day schools in the North: recreation. The podcast is called ‘How I Survived,’ and was produced in partnership with the University of Alberta. The first season will feature seven episodes. The first three have already been released on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. “I would really encourage people to listen to the whole season if they’re able to because it’s quite easy to listen to one episode and make assumptions,” said Crystal Gail Fraser, who serves as co-lead on the project with her longtime friend and collaborator Jess Dunkin. “The season as a whole really complements every interview, and I say that because there is not just one experience of residential school. You will get to hear about the diversity. You’ll get to hear about the ups and downs of how Indigenous folks experienced these years of their childhood.” Fraser, a Gwichya Gwich’in historian whose PhD research focused on student experiences at residential schools in the Inuvik region between 1959 and 1996, has known her fellow historian Dunkin since they were masters students. Their new podcast started as a research project with the same name. The purpose of the project was to share recreation-related stories of residential and day school survivors, and the podcast is carrying on that tradition in audio form. “We had actually brainstormed a little museum about the history of sports and recreation at residential schools,” said Fraser, who also hosts several episodes of the first season. “That didn’t really pan out like we had maybe hoped.” The hope was that the podcast would allow “the stories of survivors to be shared as they told them,” she added. “Sometimes when the content is in other formats, you are just taking quotes from the interviews. We thought [the podcast] would be a great way to keep the integrity of the interviews, and reach a lot of people and educate Canadians and help them learn more about residential schooling in the North because that is still a very understudied area.” In the interviews Fraser and Dunkin have conducted so far, survivors have discussed many kinds of recreation, including music, sewing, painting and sports such as volleyball, hockey and skiing. The typically European-Canadian activities they engaged in were intended to assimilate, but it sometimes had the opposite effect, according to Dunkin, who doubles as a producer for the show. “In some cases, children understood these activities differently than staff, [for example] skiing was a way to connect to the land,” she said. “Also, during recess or free time, children engaged in activities that were familiar from home, like sledding or moose-skin ball.” With just three of seven episodes available so far, the new podcast is still in its “early days,” according to Dunkin. However, she is pleased with the traction it’s been getting so far. “I’ve been surprised how many downloads we’ve had so far,” she said. “The Northwest Territories is a small place, but we just surpassed the 200 download mark overnight [on Nov. 14],” she said. “That tells me there is at least a topical resonance, that people are interested in the podcast and are listening to it. We’re also seeing those numbers climb kind of progressively when we add another episode. That means people are listening to subsequent episodes. It’s not like they just did the intro one then they’re done.” Dunkin said she’s received positive feedback about the podcast, both in-person and online. “I have conversations, bumping into people on the street [in Yellowknife] and they’re like, ‘Wow, I’ve listened to it and it’s really powerful.’” she said. “They have talked about how it’s vital, how it’s critical. “The other thing I’ve heard from people — mostly through social media — is just how nice it is to hear from people that they know, but that they didn’t necessarily know their story. Again, that’s being from a small place — we’re kind of connected. Listeners are meeting people they already know, but in a different way. “So far, it’s been positive what we’ve heard from listeners.” The first season of How I Survived is still far from over, so it’s difficult for Fraser or Dunkin to say for sure if there will be a second season. However, it sounds like it’s possible. “We have already had a couple of people reach out to talk about interviews for a possible season two,” said Fraser. “It has been good. The NWTRPA has been extremely supportive, and the University of Alberta has as well.”
NICOSIA, Cyprus , Dec. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- BC.GAME , a premier cryptocurrency i-Gaming platform, announced its decision to withdraw its license specifically from Curaçao. This move reflects Curaçao's increasingly hostile environment for operators in recent years. Despite ongoing efforts to modernize Curaçao's i-Gaming law, proper legal protection for all operators established in Curaçao is severely lacking, such as its bankruptcy law which dates to 1931 via the " Curaçao Bankruptcy Decree " which can easily be exploited by malicious actors and used against legitimate operators. Therefore, on 5 th December 2024 , BC.GAME decided to officially withdraw its Curaçao license. This will in no way affect BC.GAME's wider international operations. Separately from Curaçao, BC.GAME holds gaming licenses in multiple other jurisdictions, and its international operations remain fully compliant with its applicable regulatory obligations. Adapting to industry trends As the global gaming industry faces an increasingly complex regulatory environment, this move by BC.GAME is essential in enhancing and maintaining its operational strategy to ensure continuity and to realign BC.GAME with suitably evolved and robust regulatory frameworks for the benefit of its international operations. Most importantly, it ensures the safety, reliability and security of service for BC.GAME users. Consistency in legal and financial obligations Contrary to recent rumours inaccurately circulated questioning BC.GAME's financial position, BC.GAME further reaffirms to its stakeholders and the public in general that its financial position remains in good health. All BC.GAME's international operations remain unaffected and BC.GAME will continue to fulfil all of its ongoing legal and financial obligations. About BC.GAME BC.GAME is a leading global cryptocurrency i-Gaming platform focused on providing users with a secure and diverse entertainment experience. BC.GAME offers a range of services, including sports betting , and electronic gaming whilst ensuring adequate player protection and an increased focus on preventing gambling addiction. With a strong emphasis on technological innovation and regulatory compliance, BC.GAME continues to expand its presence in international markets in maintaining its reputation of being the leading entertainment provider offering a wide range of gaming services.
