Quick Facts About Kelly Loeffler: Age, Net Worth, Family And Insider Trading ScandalMohamed Salah is entering the final six months of his Liverpool contract, meaning clubs from outside of England can soon approach the Egyptian and entice him to move in their direction on a free transfer at the end of the season. His list of achievements and accolades for the Reds is remarkable. He is the club's third-highest scorer of all time, notching 226 in 370 games, and he is the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history. He also sits eighth on the division's top-scoring list with 170. His 77 assists, meanwhile, are good for 11th in the English top flight. He has picked up every possible trophy for Liverpool, including one Premier League title and one Champions League medal. Salah is, quite simply, a legend of the club, and one of the best players ever to grace a football pitch. In the last few years of Jurgen Klopp's Anfield reign, it looked like he was slowing down, with age and thousands of miles in the legs catching up to him. But under Arne Slot, he is somehow rejuvenated, scoring 13 in 14 Premier League games and providing eight assists for good measure. But the 32-year-old might not be wearing a red shirt for much longer, and his remarkable form this season will no doubt have encouraged a handful of clubs to invest in his talents for a few years. The Athletic's David Ornstein reported Anfield officials are set to offer him a new deal, but with each day that passes, the club and its fans will become more and more concerned that he won't put pen to paper and he'll be taking his talents elsewhere. But which other teams could we expect to make an offer? Read on for a handful of prospective parties who could be keen on putting a contract offer in Salah's hands. In 2023, Liverpool reportedly rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad for Salah. An offer that seemingly couldn't be refused was, apparently, refusable, with the club deciding to keep him on board despite his value declining as his contract grew closer to its end. Looking back, it was probably a wise decision, with the forward now powering the club towards a possible Premier League title. Could a club from the Saudi Pro League be an option for Salah if he runs down his contract? With the way he's playing now, that possibility looks increasingly unlikely. At the start of last season, it looked like his previous high standards were waning, and there wasn't much more that could be extracted from a career that had reached notable heights. A hefty payday to see out the rest of his playing days made a lot of sense from a personal point of view. But he's been tremendous this season, winding back the clock and looking exactly like the player Liverpool signed in 2017. Because of that, he'll back himself to win a few more major titles, which is something the Saudi Pro League simply can't offer—no matter how much money they spend. He may yet head in that direction, but not for a few years. Verdict: Sell On Dec. 1, French publication L'Equipe (h/t Eurosport ) reported Paris Saint-Germain had opened talks with Salah regarding a free transfer. The Ligue 1 club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi moved quickly to quash those rumors, telling Sky Germany that those assertions were "not true." "He's a fantastic and amazing player, but we've never considered him, to be honest," Al-Khelaifi added. With Salah not quite in the final six months of his Liverpool contract, it's perhaps not surprising that PSG would want to play down their interest in his possible signing. But it still looks like it could happen. PSG's star power has dwindled in the last few seasons, with the exit of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid representing the departure of the club's last remaining true superstar. Signing Salah on a free would be tempting, especially as the Parisians still seek the first Champions League title in club history. Salah could see it as a viable option, too. While winning Ligue 1 doesn't hold the gravitas that other top European titles do, he'll still almost certainly be able to play in the Champions League for another couple of years. He would also likely pick up a few individual accolades in France to further boost his legend status. Even if they won't declare an interest out loud, it's difficult to rule PSG out of the Salah sweepstakes. Verdict: Buy For the chances of the Egyptian King joining the GOAT in MLS, you can pretty much read the entry for the Saudi Pro League. Lionel Messi is having a whale of a time in Miami, but Salah's game is still at too high a level to join the Argentinian for a party in the U.S.A. Whether Messi should be there himself at this point in his career is a discussion for another day. Salah could see the States as a viable destination in the future, but right now, he still has too much-unfinished business in Europe. Verdict: Sell Bayern Munich is no stranger to signing Premier League goalmachines in their 30s, so it wouldn't be surprising if they were eyeing up Salah to support Harry Kane. Kane is still undeniably lethal in and around the box, but his movement has been lacking for the last few years. Salah, who still boasts copious energy and more tricks than David Blaine, would be a welcome addition to the Bundesliga side's attack. Imagine opposing sides' fear when seeing those two players lining up. The big thing counting against this move, though, is sacrificing young talent to squeeze the Egyptian into the starting XI. Michael Olise works his magic from the right flank, and he's been performing well in his debut season. Nineteen-year-old Mathys Tel, meanwhile, can also fill that spot in a pinch, and hindering his development might not be so wise. There is one thing that could make a deal more likely, though. Leroy Sané is also coming to the end of his contract, and replacing the winger with an arguably better player on a free transfer seems like a smart bit of business. Vincent Kompany knows about Salah's ability firsthand, so he might jump at the chance of signing a player who used to be a thorn in his side when the Belgian was in Manchester City's back line. Verdict: Buy Could Napoli be a dark horse in the race to sign Salah? This is pure speculation, but it could be a good fit. The Partenopei sit on top of Serie A, albeit narrowly, and look like a dead certainty to qualify for the Champions League next season. It doesn't seem there is a way back for Victor Osimhen, who's been shipped out on loan to Galatasaray amid a falling out with the club and probably won't suit up for them again. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Kvicha Kvaratskhelia has been tipped for a move for some time, with even Liverpool linked with the Georgia star, according to Team Talk . While Salah doesn't fit the positions those two players occupy, he will help to make up for the goals and assists lost with those potential permanent exits. Salah teaming up with Romelu Lukaku is a Chelsea attacking partnership from the multiverse—under the guidance of former Blues boss Antonio Conte, no less—so it would intriguing to see how they work out in Italy. With a potential title defense and a Champions League run to prepare for next season, Salah could be an affordable option to bolster an attacking corps that could experience a bit of a shakeup. Serie A might just favor the Egyptian's legs as the years creep up, too, and he's publicly praised the club in the past. After Liverpool beat Napoli 2-0 in the Champions League in 2022, he told BT Sport (h/t Football Italia ) that the Partenopei was "one of the best teams in the world." Verdict: Sell...but you never know Whatever happens, Mohamed Salah has etched his name into Liverpool folklore. The Egyptian's standout moments in a red shirt are too numerous to keep track of, and with at least half a season at the club remaining, he's got plenty of chances to add a few more. But setting aside loyalty, a fanbase that adores him, and the fond memories he's already made, staying at Anfield just seems to make the most sense. He won't go to another Premier League side, and the true top clubs in Europe are likely to pass on him for financial reasons or simply because they are already overflowing with top talent. His signing would be a gamble, too, because of the wages he'll likely be seeking, the talent he'll be blocking, and the fact that career drop-off could be lurking just around the corner. Right now, Liverpool are playing some of the finest football on the continent. Manager Arne Slot is settled in comfortably and has taken the Reds to a new level. And the squad is both stacked and balanced, giving the Egyptian ample support as he continues to astound and astonish. It is the best possible situation for him to be in now and for at least another two years, after which he can chase that one last giant paycheck in Saudi Arabia or the United States—assuming he doesn't take yet another unexpected leap forward. If the board doesn't pull their finger out, the fans will be furious. A contract is supposedly on the way, and it would be surprising if Salah doesn't sign his name on it. According to SI.com , former NBA star Lou Williams has an opinion on who is and should be the face of the WNBA and it’s not Caitlin Clark . Williams thinks that Las Vegas Aces star and WNBA MVP, A’ja Wilson is still the face of the league despite Caitlin Clark’s success in the WNBA. In a recent interview with FanDuel TV show ‘ Run It Back’ , Lou Williams said, “I still think that [the title of face of women’s basketball] still belongs to A’ja Wilson. A’ja has done a tremendous job of being a champion, being an MVP, doing all of these things. And now her visibility has gone up. You’re starting to see her in commercials.... [So] I still feel like it’s A’ja Wilson.” When the discussion arises about who the face of the league is, there are only two logical choices. With A’ja Wilson being the reigning MVP (2020, 2022, and 2024) and Caitlin Clark who was named Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year 2024 and WNBA Rookie of the Year captivating new WNBA fans, the choices are clear. Wilson has not only won the league MVP in three of the last five seasons, but she has proven to be a team leader in guiding the Aces to two WNBA championships. Last season, Wilson set the single season scoring record with 1,000 points. Clark has brought new fans to the league and a little bit more recognition for the league to people who were not usually watching WNBA games before Clark. You can also measure her superstardom coming into the league from college basketball and playing against the likes of former LSU standout and Chicago Sky star Angel Reese. Williams also went on to say, “A’ja has done a tremendous job of being a champion, being an MVP, doing all of these things. And now her visibility has gone up. You’re starting to see her in commercials.” In respect to Clark, Williams said, “I think some of these people are here for the wrong reasons and I don’t think they stay around to see the tremendous career that she’s gonna put together. Is she the absolute face of the WNBA? She’s one of them, for sure... but I think that still belongs to A’ja Wilson.” This article first appeared on Dice City Sports and was syndicated with permission.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Once Iowa's running game started rolling, it never really stopped. That meant a bigger workload than ever for Kaleb Johnson. Johnson rushed for 164 yards and a touchdown on a career-high 35 carries, and Kamari Moulton scored on a 68-yard run in the fourth quarter to help Iowa outlast Maryland 29-13 on Saturday. “Doesn't take a Knute Rockne to figure this one out,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. "Coming in we wanted to be able to run the football. That's what we do best." Johnson scored from 2 yards out in the second quarter for his 21st rushing touchdown of the season, and the Hawkeyes (7-4, 5-3 Big Ten) rebounded from their loss to UCLA in their previous game. Maryland (4-7, 1-7) needed to win its final two regular-season games to reach six wins and bowl eligibility, but the Terrapins were dominated in the first half and eventually fell behind 16-0. Drew Stevens made five field goals for Iowa, including kicks from 54 yards in the second quarter, then 50 and 49 in the third. Iowa, which does not exactly push the tempo, ran 46 offensive plays in the first half. The Hawkeyes had the ball for over six minutes on each of their first three possessions, which resulted in a fumble, a field goal and then Johnson's TD. “I thought the first half really played out about as well as we could outside the turnover,” said Ferentz, whose son Brian is an offensive assistant at Maryland. “Controlling the ball, keeping it on the ground and trying to keep their quarterback off the field.” Maryland replaced quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. with backup MJ Morris after two fruitless possessions, but the Terps still trailed 13-0 at halftime. Edwards went back in and led Maryland all the way to the Iowa 3 in the third quarter, but he was injured in a collision with defensive back Xavier Nwankpa. “The kid's a warrior. He's been banged up all year,” Terps coach Mike Locksley said. “I very rarely come in and talk about injuries because those are excuses and I'm not about that. Billy came to me and said, ‘Coach, I want to try to go.’ And he really gave us a chance." Morris came in and capped that drive with an 8-yard scoring pass to Tai Felton that made it 16-6, but a 2-point conversion was unsuccessful. A 12-yard touchdown strike from Morris to Felton made it 19-13 with 11:05 to play, but Iowa answered with Moulton's big run less than two minutes later. Iowa: Quarterback Jackson Stratton, a walk-on transfer from Colorado State, wasn't asked to do much as the Hawkeyes were able to lean on the running game. And credit Iowa's defense for an excellent first half that helped build a big enough lead. Maryland: No matter how obvious Iowa's plan was, the Terps couldn't do much to stop it. Iowa finished with 268 yards rushing on 58 attempts. Ferentz now has 203 career victories as Iowa's head coach. Only Woody Hayes (205) has more in Big Ten history. Johnson looked plenty motivated after he produced just 49 yards rushing against UCLA. He also had extra time to rest since Iowa was off last weekend. “That 49 yards. I was mad at myself a little bit," he said. "I was being too soft. I wasn’t running as hard as I could.” Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara hasn't played since entering concussion protocol after a game late last month. Ferentz urged fans to support McNamara, who since 2022 has dealt with leg, quad and knee problems in addition to his latest issue. “Sometimes you've got to step back and have some compassion for the people that are out competing,” Ferentz said. "You think about the last three years for this guy. He has had a rough go." Iowa: Hosts Nebraska on Friday. Maryland: At Penn State on Saturday. As 2024 is set to end as Earth's hottest year on record—breaking the previous record set in 2023– a UCLA Health researcher says people living with neurodegenerative diseases will be uniquely vulnerable to worsening heat waves because of a higher risk of heat-related complications. In a commentary published in JAMA Neurology , Dr. Indu Subramanian said that doctors have a duty to strengthen the understanding of heat-related impacts on people living with diseases such as dementia or Parkinson's disease and to develop updated solutions to protect these vulnerable patients in a warming world. "This editorial makes clear that these deaths are preventable, and doctors can make a difference," Subramanian said. While more frequent and severe heat waves pose health risks to all people experiencing them, their impacts can be exacerbated among people with neurodegenerative disease due to symptoms or treatments associated with them, Subramanian said. Heat has been shown to worsen neurodegenerative disease symptoms. In Parkinson's disease, symptoms such as a malfunctioning autonomic nervous system can increase the risk of dehydration, heat stroke and fainting caused by reduced blood flow to the brain. Symptoms of Parkinson's disease and other conditions can also compromise sweating, which would only worsen especially in areas with high humidity. Subramanian said worsening symptoms can impair a person's ability to perform regular activities such as taking medication, turning on air conditioners , rehydrating or taking a cold shower to keep cool. Some medications that treat these diseases, such as anticholinergics and tricyclics, can inhibit functions such as sweating and blood flow to the skin that help to passively cool the body. One study in 2020 led by the University of Malta found statistically significant increases of more than 10% for both Parkinson's disease-related mortality and hospital admissions at temperatures of only 1 degree Fahrenheit over a threshold of 93 degrees Fahrenheit. A separate study in 2019 from the Queensland University of Technology, cited by Subramanian, found similar trends for Alzheimer's disease patients. The Queensland University of Technology study also found an association between heat-related mortality and the amount of green space near a person's residence. Green space works to prevent heat islands by providing shade, deflecting radiation and releasing moisture. The study found people living near low amounts of green space had three times the risk of heat-related mortality. As the U.S. population of older residents increases, so has the number of people living with neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. Thermoregularity, the ability to maintain body temperature, is often compromised among older people . Heat-related complications are also higher for men, though the reason for this increased risk is still unclear, Subramanian said. The increasing social isolation among older adults can also increase risk of heat-related issues because of lack of early detection. "I was surprised how many patients view us docs or health care providers as their only touch point with the world outside their house," Subramanian said. To address these many issues, Subramanian states that medical providers and institutions must establish best-practice guidelines and tie these quality measures to reimbursement and certification. One example would be to have doctors regularly screen people with neurodegenerative diseases for social isolation and to connect them to resources. The increased utilization of telemedicine can also be used to have medical providers check in on high-risk patients and proactively contact them during high temperature periods, Subramanian said. Doctors can take early steps by providing early handouts to patients with information and resources. "People with Parkinson's disease and dementias are at risk of dying in heat waves and we can be proactive about preventing this," Subramanian said. The editorial was coauthored by Dr. Ali Saad of the University of Colorado, Aurora, who is one of the only neurologists to have completed a Climate Change Fellowship. Dr. Subramanian is also board-certified in integrative medicine. More information: Indu Subramanian et al, Heatwaves and Neurodegenerative Disease, JAMA Neurology (2024). Ms Hand, who accused the sportsman of raping her in a Dublin hotel in December 2018, won her claim against him for damages in a civil case at the High Court in the Irish capital on Friday. The total amount of damages awarded to Ms Hand by the jury was 248,603.60 euro (£206,714.31). Mr McGregor said in a post on social media on Friday that he intends to appeal against the decision. That post has since been deleted. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Mr Harris said he told Ms Hand of the support she has from people across Ireland. “I spoke with Nikita today and I wanted to thank her for her incredible bravery and her courage,” he said. “I wanted to make sure that she knew how much solidarity and support there was across this country for her bravery. “I also wanted to make sure she knew of what the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre had said yesterday – that so many other women have now come forward in relation to their own experiences of sexual abuse as a result of Nikita’s bravery.” The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said the case has had a “profound effect” on the people the charity supports, and that over the first 10 days of the High Court case, calls to its national helpline increased by almost 20%. It said that first-time callers increased by 50% compared to the same period last year, and were largely from people who had experienced sexual violence who were distressed and anxious from the details of case and the views people had to it. Mr Harris said: “I wanted to speak with her and I wanted to wish her and her daughter, Freya, all the very best night, and I was very grateful to talk with Nikita today. “Her bravery, her courage, her voice has made a real difference in a country in which we must continue to work to get to zero tolerance when it comes to domestic, sexual and gender-based violence. “I don’t want to say too much more, because conscious there could be further legal processes, but I absolutely want to commend Nikita for her bravery, for her courage, for using her voice.” Justice Minister Helen McEntee praised Ms Hand’s bravery and said she had shown “there is light at the end of the tunnel”. She said: “I just want to commend Nikita for her bravery, for her determination and the leadership that she has shown in what has been – I’ve no doubt – a very, very difficult time for her and indeed, for her family. She added: “Because of wonderful people like Nikita, I hope that it shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that there are supports available to people, and that there is justice at the end of the day.” Ms Hand said in a statement outside court on Friday that she hoped her case would remind victims of assault to keep “pushing forward for justice”. Describing the past six years as “a nightmare”, she said: “I want to show (my daughter) Freya and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you, no matter who the person is, and justice will be served.” During the case, Ms Hand said she was “disappointed and upset” when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) decided not to prosecute the case after she made a complaint to the Irish police. In a letter to her in August 2020, the DPP said there was “insufficient evidence” and there was not a reasonable prospect of conviction. Ms Hand asked the DPP to review the decision, saying she felt she was being treated differently because one of the suspects was famous. Asked about the DPP’s decision not to prosecute, Mr Harris and Ms McEntee stressed the importance of the DPP’s independence on whether to prosecute. “There are obviously structures in place where the DPP can meet a victim and can outline to them their reasons for not taking the case,” Mr Harris said. “But there’s also always an opportunity for the DPP in any situation – and I speak broadly in relation to this – to review a decision, to consider any new information that may come to light, and I don’t want to say anything that may ever cut across the ongoing work of the DPP.” Ms McEntee stressed that there should “never be any political interference” in the independence of the DPP’s decisions. “I have, since becoming minister, given priority to and enabled a new office within the DPP to open specifically focused on sexual offences, so that this issue can be given the focus and the priority that it needs,” she said.
