American Airlines has resumed flights after suspending its services for around an hour on Tuesday due to a technical issue that impacted the systems needed to release its planes. The disruption came during one of the busiest travel days of the year as passengers made journeys on Christmas Eve. In a statement, the airline said a "vendor technology issue" had caused the problem and it was "all hands on deck" to minimise further disruption. Departure boards at major US airports are still showing delays of up to two hours for some flights as the airline recovers from the nationwide issue, but real-time tracking website Flightradar24 shows planes taking off again at a number of major US travel hubs and most flights are departing on time. Kennedy was assassinated , conspiracy theories still swirl and any new glimpse into the fateful day of Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas continues to fascinate . Related Articles President-elect Donald Trump promised during his reelection campaign that he would declassify all of the remaining government records surrounding the assassination if he returned to office. He made a similar pledge during his first term, but ultimately bended to appeals from the CIA and FBI to keep some documents withheld. At this point, only a few thousand of the millions of governmental records related to the assassination have yet to be fully released, and those who have studied the records released so far say that even if the remaining files are declassified, the public shouldn’t anticipate any earth-shattering revelations. “Anybody waiting for a smoking gun that’s going to turn this case upside down will be sorely disappointed,” said Gerald Posner, author of “Case Closed,” which concludes that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Friday’s 61st anniversary is expected to be marked with a moment of silence at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy’s motorcade was passing through when he was fatally shot. And throughout this week there have been events marking the anniversary. When Air Force One carrying Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy touched down in Dallas , they were greeted by a clear sky and enthusiastic crowds. With a reelection campaign on the horizon the next year, they had gone to Texas on political fence-mending trip. But as the motorcade was finishing its parade route downtown, shots rang out from the Texas School Book Depository building. Police arrested 24-year-old Oswald and, two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby fatally shot Oswald during a jail transfer. A year after the assassination, the Warren Commission, which President Lyndon B. Johnson established to investigate the assassination, concluded that Oswald acted alone and there was no evidence of a conspiracy. But that hasn’t quelled a web of alternative theories over the decades. In the early 1990s, the federal government mandated that all assassination-related documents be housed in a single collection in the National Archives and Records Administration. The collection of over 5 million records was required to be opened by 2017, barring any exemptions designated by the president. Trump, who took office for his first term in 2017, had boasted that he’d allow the release of all of the remaining records but ended up holding some back because of what he called the potential harm to national security. And while files have continued to be released during President Joe Biden’s administration, some still remain unseen. The documents released over the last few years offer details on the way intelligence services operated at the time, and include CIA cables and memos discussing visits by Oswald to the Soviet and Cuban embassies during a trip to Mexico City just weeks before the assassination. The former Marine had previously defected to the Soviet Union before returning home to Texas. Mark S. Zaid, a national security attorney in Washington, said what’s been released so far has contributed to the understanding of the time period, giving “a great picture” of what was happening during the Cold War and the activities of the CIA. Posner estimates that there are still about 3,000 to 4,000 documents in the collection that haven’t yet been fully released. Of those documents, some are still completely redacted while others just have small redactions, like someone’s Social Security number. There are about 500 documents where all the information is redacted, Posner said, and those include Oswald’s and Ruby’s tax returns. “If you have been following it, as I have and others have, you sort of are zeroed in on the pages you think might provide some additional information for history,” Posner said. Trump’s transition team hasn’t responded to questions this week about his plans when he takes office. From the start, there were those who believed there had to be more to the story than just Oswald acting alone, said Stephen Fagin, curator of the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which tells the story of the assassination from the building where Oswald made his sniper’s perch. “People want to make sense of this and they want to find the solution that fits the crime,” said Fagin, who said that while there are lingering questions, law enforcement made “a pretty compelling case” against Oswald. Larry J. Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said his interest in the assassination dates back to the event itself, when he was a child. “It just seemed so fantastical that one very disturbed individual could end up pulling off the crime of the century,” Sabato said. “But the more I studied it, the more I realized that is a very possible, maybe even probable in my view, hypothesis.”

However, if you love Google Chrome but you've decided you've had enough of Google search, you can change the default search engine in the browser. You can switch to Bing, DuckDuckGo, or whichever alternative search engine you like. Maybe you feel you've spent enough of your life scrolling through Google's sponsored links, or perhaps you'd rather use a search engine without any AI in it . Whatever the reason, here's how to change the default search engine in Google Chrome. Set Your Search Engine By default, when you type out a search query in the address bar at the top of the Chrome interface and hit Enter, you'll see results from Google search. You'll also see the Google search engine front and center if you open up a new tab in the browser. Both these settings can be changed from their initial configurations. To choose a new search engine for the address bar, click the three dots in a browser tab (top right), then choose Settings . On the Search engine tab, click Manage search engines and search . You get five options you can cycle between, and some alternatives will already be listed. For DuckDuckGo, for example, the URL you want is “https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s” You then need to click the three dots next to your new search engine, and click Make default . Back on the Search engine tab of Settings, your changes should be applied—you can also just click on Change to pick a default search engine, provided it's already in the list and you don't need to enter its details. You can switch the new tab page to show an alternative search engine. To temporarily use a different search engine in the address bar, rather than permanently switching to it as your default, type out the shortcut for it (as set in the options above). When you see it selected, press Tab , and then write out your query and hit Enter : Your selected search engine will then be used rather than the default. As for the new tab page, you can set this to point to a particular URL—maybe the search engine of your choice—via Appearance in Settings. You can also reconfigure the new tab page entirely using a Chrome extension such as Infinity New Tab : It lets you choose the shortcuts and the search engine you see, and there are plenty of these new tab extensions to choose from (just search for “new tab”). Some of Your Other Options We've already mentioned a couple of search engines you might want to use instead of Google. Open up the site in Chrome and it will offer to set itself as the default search engine, an option you can use instead of the method described above. DuckDuckGo promises a super-secure search experience. Brave Search is also heavily focused on privacy protections. Your searches are kept private and aren't stored, and they're free from advertisements and trackers. There's also the option to tweak the algorithm used to deliver you results, so you aren't at the mercy of whatever SEO rules Google might be following at any particular time. For a search engine option that puts the planet's best interests first, you can try Ecosia . Any money the search engine makes from advertising is plowed into environmental projects, including tree planting , all across the world. Trump asserted that the prime minister had made “a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation” of American families from fentanyl from China reaching the United States through its neighbors. The U.S., he said, “will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic.” The Republican president-elect has threatened to impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders when he takes office in January. U.S. customs agents seized 43 pounds of fentanyl at the Canadian border last fiscal year, compared with 21,100 pounds at the Mexican border. On immigration, the U.S. Border Patrol made 56,530 arrests at the Mexican border in October alone and 23,721 arrests at the Canadian border between October 2023 and September 2024 — and Canadian officials say they are ready to make new investments in border security. Trudeau had said before leaving from Friday that Trump was elected because he promised to bring down the cost of groceries but now was talking about adding 25% to the cost of all kinds of products, including potatoes from Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada. “It is important to understand that Donald Trump, when he makes statements like that, he plans on carrying them out. There’s no question about it,” Trudeau said. “Our responsibility is to point out that he would not just be harming Canadians, who work so well with the United States, but he would actually be raising prices for Americans citizens as well and hurting American industry and business,” he added. The threatened tariffs could essentially blow up the North American trade pact that Trump’s team negotiated during his first term. Trudeau noted they were able to successfully renegotiate the deal, which he calls a “win win” for both countries. When Trump imposed higher tariffs as president, other countries responded with retaliatory tariffs of their own. Canada, for instance, announced billions of new duties in 2018 against the U.S. in a response to new taxes on Canadian steel and aluminum. Canada is the top export destination for 36 U.S. states. Nearly $3.6 billion Canadian (US $2.7 billion) worth of goods and services cross the border each day. About 60% of U.S. crude oil imports are from Canada, and 85% of U.S. electricity imports are from Canada. Canada is also the largest foreign supplier of steel, aluminum and uranium to the U.S. and has 34 critical minerals and metals that the Pentagon is eager for and investing in for national security. The banner announced that a Korean hot pot and barbecue restaurant called Fire Pot would be “coming soon,” but there is no indication yet as to what “soon” might mean. Speaking at the seventh edition of Kwarabuild Tech conference in Ilorin, the experts saidd there are lots of potentials in the tech ecosystem that must be explored by the youth. According to the managing director of the state government-owned Ilorin Innovation Hub, Mr. Temi Kolawole, he said that, “No foreigner will come to build Nigeria’s tech ecosystem for us. It is up to us to rise, acquire the skills, and create the future we desire”. Kolawole, who emphasized the vast potentials in the tech industry, urged participants to upskill, innovate, and collaborate to solve pressing societal challenges. He shared his personal journey, recounting how he returned to Nigeria in 2019 after a stint abroad to discuss with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq his intention of having a tech hub in the state which was in tandem with the governor’s plan of establishing the Ilorin Innovation Hub. The hub, he explained, has attracted attention of major tech companies and industry players eager to support the development of tech businesses in Kwara state and beyond. Kolawole urged participants at the Kwarabuild conference to make the most of the training sessions and practical workshops at the conference, noting that , “You can gain exposure abroad, but there’s no better place to apply your tech skills than in Nigeria. Solving tech problems here can also be highly rewarding.” Delivering a lecture, a Lagos-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) developer, Jonathan Enudeme, who is the founder of Zummit Africa encouraged participants to embrace AI as a tool for upskilling and innovation. He stressed the importance of fact-checking information obtained through AI, particularly in research, to avoid plagiarism and misinformation. “AI is a powerful tool for developing solutions, but it must be used responsibly. Always verify the accuracy of AI-generated content,” Enudeme advised. Also speaking, a healthcare manager, Jimoh Habibullahi, who is a medical student at the University of Ilorin, outlined benefits of technology in the healthcare sector, including improved patient outcomes, enhanced diagnostic accuracy, more effective treatments, streamlined clinical workflows, and the empowerment of patients through education. “Integrating technology into healthcare not only reduces the burden on medical practitioners but also ensures better care and accessibility for patients,” Habeeb explained. In his welcome address, a co-founder of Kwarabuild, Ibraheem Zulkifli, underscored the importance of the conference theme, “Future Forward: Addressing Local and Global Challenges Through Collaborative Innovation”, saying that Kwarabuild’s mission is to foster talent development, advance technological innovation, and export Nigerian expertise to the global stage. “We aim to use this platform to grow talents, establish partnerships, and inspire future tech innovations,” Zulkifli said. Another co-founder, Kehinde Kamaldeen, described the conference as a hub for collaboration among innovators, startups, and thought leaders, noting that the event served as a springboard for new ideas and partnerships within and beyond Kwara State. Participants expressed their gratitude for the insights shared by the speakers. They also noted how the conference broadened their understanding of the tech ecosystem and inspired them to contribute to solving multifaceted societal challenges. Nana-Aisha Abubakar, a 200-level Food Science student at the University of Ilorin, praised Kwarabuild for organizing the event, saying, “This conference has been an eye-opener, and I am excited to apply what I’ve learned to my field.” Similarly, Mariam Abdulkadri Yusuf, a media practitioner, lauded the initiative, noting that it provided a platform to connect with industry experts and gain practical knowledge.
