By COLLEEN SLEVIN DENVER (AP) — Amid renewed interest in the killing of JonBenet Ramsey triggered in part by a new Netflix documentary, police in Boulder, Colorado, refuted assertions this week that there is viable evidence and leads about the 1996 killing of the 6-year-old girl that they are not pursuing. JonBenet Ramsey, who competed in beauty pageants, was found dead in the basement of her family’s home in the college town of Boulder the day after Christmas in 1996. Her body was found several hours after her mother called 911 to say her daughter was missing and a ransom note had been left behind. The details of the crime and video footage of JonBenet competing in pageants propelled the case into one of the highest-profile mysteries in the United States. The police comments came as part of their annual update on the investigation, a month before the 28th anniversary of JonBenet’s killing. Police said they released it a little earlier due to the increased attention on the case, apparently referring to the three-part Netflix series “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey.” In a video statement, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said the department welcomes news coverage and documentaries about the killing of JonBenet, who would have been 34 this year, as a way to generate possible new leads. He said the department is committed to solving the case but needs to be careful about what it shares about the investigation to protect a possible future prosecution. “What I can tell you though, is we have thoroughly investigated multiple people as suspects throughout the years and we continue to be open-minded about what occurred as we investigate the tips that come into detectives,” he said. The Netflix documentary focuses on the mistakes made by police and the “media circus” surrounding the case. JonBenet was bludgeoned and strangled. Her death was ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever prosecuted. Police were widely criticized for mishandling the early investigation into her death amid speculation that her family was responsible. However, a prosecutor cleared her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, and brother Burke in 2008 based on new DNA evidence from JonBenet’s clothing that pointed to the involvement of an “unexplained third party” in her slaying. The announcement by former district attorney Mary Lacy came two years after Patsy Ramsey died of cancer. Lacy called the Ramseys “victims of this crime.” Related Articles National News | Northern lights may be faintly visible across parts of the US this Thanksgiving National News | Trump transition says Cabinet picks, appointees were targeted by bomb threats, swatting attacks National News | White House pressing Ukraine to draft 18-year-olds so they have enough troops to battle Russia National News | Trump vows tariffs over immigration. In 2022, he supported an online petition asking Colorado’s governor to intervene in the investigation by putting an outside agency in charge of DNA testing in the case. In the Netflix documentary, he said he has been advocating for several items that have not been prepared for DNA testing to be tested and for other items to be retested. He said the results should be put through a genealogy database. In recent years, investigators have identified suspects in unsolved cases by comparing DNA profiles from crime scenes and to DNA testing results shared online by people researching their family trees. In 2021, police said in their annual update that DNA hadn’t been ruled out to help solve the case, and in 2022 noted that some evidence could be “consumed” if DNA testing is done on it. Last year, police said they convened a panel of outside experts to review the investigation to give recommendations and determine if updated technologies or forensic testing might produce new leads. In the latest update, Redfearn said that review had ended but that police continue to work through and evaluate a “lengthy list of recommendations” from the panel. Cesc Fabregas was ‘angry’ that Como failed to , warning he realised ‘who has my style of football in their blood and who does not.’ The coach had his first ever match as an opponent at San Siro and opted to change his tactics to a three-man defence, It did help neutralise them for long periods, but they were undone by a towering Carlos Augusto header on Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner and in stoppages Marcus Thuram bent back Pepe Reina’s gloves with a screamer at the near post. His players had chances too, most notably Nico Paz forcing a save and the desperate Carlos Augusto interception to prevent an Edoardo Goldaniga tap-in. “It all goes down to small details, they had to break the deadlock from a set play and I don’t think Inter expected Como to be so positive without the ball,” “We need to do a lot better with the ball, though, and today I got a great idea of who has my style of football in their blood and who does not. “I don’t remember Inter doing anything in the first half. We had situations, like Strefezza should’ve put in the cross quickly and not taken an extra touch, Nico Paz on his own, Fadera twice was two against one... “Quite a few others too didn’t have the right character to go there, be aggressive and get the ball into the box quickly. Da Cunha, however, I take my hat off to him, because this is what I want, a team that plays without fear. “I am angry because we felt the sensation in the stadium that we could’ve hurt them and we didn’t do it. I want players with character.” While Inter dominated possession, the number of shots on target was remarkably even considering Como were in Serie B last season. “We saw Arsenal struggle and lose here, we saw Atalanta concede four goals here, so this is one of the three best teams in Europe right now,” continued Fabregas. “With that in mind, I expected us to be more effective and not give the ball away so cheaply. After this performance and the one against Roma, these are two positive games and we can only build on them.” The Sky Sport Italia pundits inevitably pounced on that phrase from Fabregas, ‘who has my style of football in their blood and who does not.’ Is this a sign that he wants some of them replaced in January? “I prefer not to talk about the transfer market, I have faith in my players who got us here. These are 25 soldiers who train hard all week, they come here and put in a great performance, so I don’t want to discuss replacing them. “It’s true, we deserve more points than we have, but we don’t have those points. I don’t like to feel sorry for myself, we just have to keep working in training and improving,” concluded Fabregas.NEW YORK , Nov. 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Report with the AI impact on market trends - The global data monetization market size is estimated to grow by USD 8.03 billion from 2024-2028, according to Technavio. Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes were both victims of home burglaries in Kansas City, Missouri last month. The two Kansas City Chiefs stars were targets of what the FBI is believed to be an international crime syndicate. The crime syndicate, which is believed to have originated out of South America, is likely targeting the homes of professional athletes . The South American criminals reportedly use social media and home listings to break into player houses, when they are believed to be empty - usually on game days or road trips. The NFL believes that the crime syndicate is specifically targeting the homes of professional athletes. NBA players have been targeted, too. "It's legit," one source familiar with the situation told NFL.com . "It's a transnational crime ring, and over the last three weeks, they've focused on NBA and NFL players, and it's all over the country." Michael Owens/Getty Images Kelce reportedly had about $20,000 in cash stolen from his home. Mahomes, meanwhile, had some valuable items taken, as well. However, the three-time Super Bowl-winning tight end is believed to be "very upset" about losing one "very special" item. Kelce's first Super Bowl jersey was reportedly among the items taken from his home. He is reportedly quite mad about it. "Travis is going to set a new alarm system not to be a target of a possible burglary as he is doing some work in the house and will have more of Taylor's stuff in there, too," a source told the U.S. Sun . The source added: "That first Super Bowl shirt is essential from him. It's a reminder of one of the biggest achievements in his career and life so far, and he hopes to get it back." "For the luxury items, he knows that it will be very complicated to find them and have them back." "It (expletive) him off." PATRICK T. FALLON/Getty Images The Chiefs beat the 49ers, 31-20, in Super Bowl LIV in Miami, Florida. It was the first championship win for Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co. Kansas City has gone on to win two more Super Bowls, taking down the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII and the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Hopefully, Kelce will be getting his first Super Bowl jersey back soon. The Chiefs, 10-1 on the year, are set to take on the Raiders in a rare Black Friday NFL game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. E.T. on Amazon Prime.Sacramento St. 63, Air Force 61

MALAGA, Spain (AP) — The last man to face — and beat — Rafael Nadal in professional tennis, 80th-ranked Botic van de Zandschulp , converted his 10th match point Friday to finally close out a 6-4, 6-7 (12), 6-3 victory over Daniel Altmaier and help the Netherlands reach its first Davis Cup final by sweeping Germany. Tallon Griekspoor, who is ranked 40th, sealed the 2-0 win for the Dutch in the best-of-three-match semifinal by hitting 25 aces and coming back to defeat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4. When it ended, appropriately, on an ace, Griekspoor shut his eyes, dropped to his knees and spread his arms wide. “We have been talking about this for two, three years,” Griekspoor said. “We believed in ourselves so much. We always felt like this was possible. To do it now feels unbelievable.” The other semifinal is Saturday, with No. 1-ranked Jannik Sinner and defending champion Italy taking on Australia . The championship will be decided Sunday. “We don’t have that top 5 player. We don’t that top 10 player. We don’t have that top 15 player,” Dutch captain Paul Harhuuis said. “But it’s a team effort. ... So proud of these guys.” In Friday's opener, van de Zandschulp was up a set and just a point away from leading 5-2 in the second when Altmaier began playing more aggressively and interacting more with the German fans, yelling and throwing uppercuts or raising his arms after key points. In the tiebreaker, Altmaier managed to save five match points before converting his own fourth set point to extend the contest. But van de Zandschulp — who upset four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz at the U.S. Open — quickly moved out front in the final set, even if he eventually needed five more match points in the last game before serving it out. “At some point, I didn’t know what to do any more on the match points,” van de Zandschulp said. “I had the toughest match of my life on Tuesday (against Nadal), so everything that comes next is maybe a little bit easier.” In the quarterfinals, van de Zandschulp outplayed Nadal for a 6-4, 6-4 result that marked the end of the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s career because the Netherlands went on to eliminate Spain 2-1. The 38-year-old Nadal announced last month that the Davis Cup would be his final event before retiring. Presumably because people purchased tickets ahead of time with plans to watch Nadal compete in the semifinals, there were hundreds of unoccupied blue or gray seats surrounding the indoor hard court at the Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martina Carpena in southern Spain on Friday. Now truly a neutral site, the place was not nearly as loud and rowdy as on Tuesday, although there were shouts of “Vamos, Rafa!” that drew laughter while van de Zandschulp played the 88th-ranked Altmaier. It took Griekspoor more than 75 minutes and nearly two full sets to figure out how to break No. 43 Struff and then did it twice in a row — to lead 6-5 in the second set, and then go up 1-0 in the third. That was plenty, because Griekspoor saved the only two break points he faced. The Netherlands hadn’t been to the semifinals since 2001. The Germans — whose best current player, two-time major finalist Alexander Zverev, is not on the team in Malaga — have won three Davis Cups, but not since 1993, when 1991 Wimbledon champion Michael Stich led them to the title. How Magdeburg attack is mobilizing Germany's extreme right'We've just walked around it': Tourists unfazed by Seoul's impeachment protests Published: 14 Dec. 2024, 06:00 Audio report: written by reporters, read by AI Entrance to the Myeong-Dong shopping streets on a cold Thursday morning [HA YUN-JI] President Yoon Suk-Yeol’s martial law declaration threw Korea into a political crisis last week. Citizens, it was widely reported, fell into a nationwide panic, taking to the streets to protest, clearing daily necessities from convenience store shelves and flooding the country's social networks with a deluge of traffic that likely took their servers down. The won crashed, and the stock market has struggled to recover. On the streets of Seoul's most Instagram-able tourist districts, however, international visitors largely seem to be getting on with things. Related Article 'Travel advisory: Korea': Martial law scare threatens tourism with national warnings Railway workers' strike disrupts commutes as union fails to reach agreement Tourism minister aims to hit inbound traveler targets with foreigner friendly infrastructure boost Crowds were slightly below their usual levels in Seoul's famous Myeong-dong shopping center on a crisp Thursday winter morning. Dotted throughout the throng were several pairs of Walking Tourist Guides, dressed in bright red, who'd been sent to help overseas travelers find their way. A group of five Australian visitors in Myeong-dong, central Seoul, said that they were “stoked” to be in Korea, having experienced nothing so far that would prompt them to cut their trip short. “We haven’t experienced anything with regards to the martial law stuff,” one mid-20s tourist told the JoongAng Daily, seated in front of a large Christmas tree. Although the group had recently crossed paths with a protest in Busan, none of the five had viewed it as a concern. “It was fine,” the tourist said of the experience. Fewer visitors than usual enter and exit Lotte Young Plaza in Myeong-dong, central Seoul. [HA YUN-JI] Government officials, however, clearly don't feel the same way. Several countries have issued travel warnings: China told its citizens to “enhance security awareness and reduce unnecessary outings” while in Korea while the United States recommended avoiding large crowds. Domestically, stakeholders including businesses and tourism associations have expressed public fear that the political crisis could hurt future tourism, pushing officials to spring to damage control. In response, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon announced several countermeasures, to promote “Safe Seoul,” at a meeting of tourism stakeholders on Wednesday. “We will do our best to ensure that tourists who experience Seoul return home with the conviction that Seoul is a safe, enjoyable city that they would want to visit again,” the mayor said. Oh’s office promised to provide targeted incentives to small businesses, such as employment subsidies for skilled workers and support to develop travel packages and events. Alongside deploying more Walking Tourist Guides, the city is pushing out more promotional material with the message that Seoul is a “consistently safe and tourist-friendly city.” A group of students explore their surroundings. [HA YUN-JI] On Thursday, the government extended the K-ETA temporary exemption, which grants free entry to visitors from 67 countries, by one year to the end of 2025. How the aftermath of Yoon's declaration will impact international tourism numbers — which had recovered to 97 percent of pre-Covid levels as of October of this year — remains to be seen. The key demographic of concern is Chinese tourists, who represented more than 29 percent of Korea’s international visitors between January and October of 2024. That number represented an increase of 158.9 percent from the January-October 2023 period and grew 57.2 percent in October alone. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, there could be a reduction in Chinese visitor levels of as much as 19 percent early next year, as public safety concerns have a greater resonance among them. Trent Holler and Memphis smashed West Virginia. The result on the football field wasn’t terribly one-sided: Memphis 42, WVU 37. The smashing happened after the game. Following the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, Holler, Memphis’ mammoth redshirt senior center, took a sledge hammer to a block of concrete painted with a WVU logo. The block cracked and crumbled into pieces on the locker room floor as the strong-jawed Holler grinned, a cigar dangling from his mouth. The Tigers (11-2) capped the second 11-win season in the program’s 109 years by piling up 474 yards, 294 passing, with Latrobe graduate Holler snapping to and blocking for quarterback Seth Henigan, the game’s MVP. Holler, who also played at East Carolina and Marshall, started all 13 games for the Tigers. The 6-foot-2, 311-pounder announced Monday he is declaring for the NFL Draft. The win was a great cap to his career, which he hopes can stretch beyond college. Henigan completed 18 of 26 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score. Henigan surpassed 14,000 career yards and moved into 13th on the NCAA all-time passing list, another credit to his linemen. Holler credited medical personnel for his sustainability on the field following offseason surgery. He also won the Myrtle Beach Bowl with Marshall in 2022. Elon: After 14 years of football — youth, high school and college — Jack Salopek is hanging up his cleats. The former Norwin standout who has more career passing yards than anyone in Westmoreland County (6,150) played this =season at Elon after transferring from Western Michigan. A redshirt junior, Salopek played in seven games, completing 47 of 83 passes for 463 yards and one touchdown. He spent four seasons at Western Michigan before entering the NCAA transfer portal one year ago. He was 149 of 280 with eight passing touchdowns with the Broncos and had four 200-plus-yard passing games. Salopek announced his plans on X, saying “I have been fortunate enough to learn many lessons, play in a lot of meaningful games, and meet lifelong friends. Thank you to everyone who was a part of my journey.” William & Mary: Senior safety Marcus Barnes (Jeannette) announced he will play in the 10th Trillion Tropical Bowl, set for Jan. 19 in Orlando, Fla. More than 350 Tropical Bowl participants have gone on to play in the NFL since it began in 2016. Barnes’ father, Johnny Barnes, played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Diego Chargers. SVC broke three team records at the event.More than 18 months ago, Minnesota State women's soccer player Maille Mathis tore her ACL and underwent surgery. She rehabbed diligently while sitting out the 2023 season and returned to the squad this year. On Friday, she admitted she may not be 100% healed, but showed she's most of the way back by scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State at The Pitch. The triumph came in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament and advances the Mavericks to the quarterfinals of the regional. "I've had a few setbacks but it feels pretty good right now," Mathis said after the match. "I'm sure it will continue to get better." Mathis' goal was a bang-bang-bang play which started near midfield on the left side of the pitch. Addison Clarey brought the ball up along the sideline, delivered a perfectly-timed pass to Maddix Archer who in turn sent the ball over to Mathis. Without breaking stride, Mathis quickly shot the ball into the upper-left quadrant of the net for the game-winner at the 59:18 mark. "We're getting to know each other pretty well by now," Mathis said of her teammates. "We have a feel where each of us is going to at any given time." St. Cloud dominated action in the first 10 minutes of the game, outshooting the Mavericks 4-0 and rarely letting the ball outside the MSU zone. The Mavericks withstood the blitz until the 14:46 mark, when SCSU's Grace Olson converted a free kick that appeared to glance off a defender and into the net. The 1-0 lead stood until halftime. "We know there's usually going to be a 10-20 minute span when our opponents take their best shot and that's usually at the beginning of the game," MSU coach Brian Bahl said. "We held on until halftime when we were able to make a couple of adjustments and came out a lot more aggressive." After applying constant pressure to start the second frame, the Mavericks evened things up when Archer took a straight-on shot that goalie Meriel Orham was able to stop but not able to hang on to. When the ball popped out of her hands, a hard-charging Clarey was there to clean it up and slide the ball into the net to tie the game at 53:21. "When the ball came out I just pounced on it," Clarey said. Six minutes later, Mathis scored the game-winner and MSU held on for the win. St. Cloud had a handful of opportunities in the second frame, but Mavericks' goalie Clare Longueville and the rest of the defense thwarted all of them. MSU was outshot 12-9 for the game. The decision improves MSU to 15-1-6 and ends SCSU's season at 11-4-5. The Mavericks, the No. 2 seed, are in quarterfinal action at 1 p.m. Sunday at The Pitch with a game against No. 3 seed Northwest Missouri State. NWMSU advanced with a 2-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul Saturday morning.
