The holidays encourage many of us to try new recipes. Social media right now is flooded with recipes for appetizers, side dishes and desserts. Anyone making that cornbread casserole from TikTok? While we might not get to share a Thanksgiving feast with Swift — is your name Blake Lively? — or other celebrities beloved by Kansas City, we can eat like them. So here’s the recipe for that casserole Swift loved so much, and favorite family side dish recipes from Donna Kelce and Eric Stonestreet. Enjoy. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced backlash after videos surfaced of him attending a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto while violent riots erupted in Montreal. Middle East tensions set off the protests, which turned into altercations between police and pro-Palestinian protesters that led to arrests and serious property damage. Montreal Protests Turn Violent A nonviolent protest in Montreal turned violent on Friday. According to The Mint, protesters and police battled, breaking windows, destroying cars, and allegedly setting fire to an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After protesters threw metal items and tiny explosive devices, police used chemical irritants to separate the throng, according to The Financial Express. For attacking police officers and impeding law enforcement, three people were taken into custody. 85,000 Quebec students went on strike for two days, demanding that colleges cut their links to Israel at the same time as the riots. During the protests, demonstrators performed Nazi salutes and charged NATO of enabling what they referred to as "genocide." Trudeau Attends Concert Amid CrisisAt a Taylor Swift performance, Trudeau was captured on camera dancing and handing out friendship bracelets while violence raged in Montreal. The videos received harsh condemnation from social media users after being extensively circulated online. In reference to the historical assertion that Nero performed music while Rome burnt, many people likened him to the Roman Emperor, the Mint reported. One social media post stated, “Montreal is burning, and Trudeau is handing out bracelets at a Taylor Swift concert.” Another user described his behavior as “juvenile,” commenting on his dance moves and presence at the event. Political FalloutPoliticians' dissatisfaction was heightened by Trudeau's actions. Trudeau's absence during the crisis was attacked by Quebec Senator Leo Housakos, who claimed on social media that the prime minister was attending a concert in Toronto while he was in Montreal talking with members of the Jewish community. The Economic Times noted that Trudeau was also criticized for endorsing the arrest order against Netanyahu issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Several Canadian politicians have criticized the prime minister's reaffirmation of Canada's adherence to international law. News18 claims that both pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian organizations have become more vocal in their opposition of this action. He made this known at the 2024 edition of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) conference and awards, held recently in Lagos. He noted that the ongoing improvements in port infrastructure will create over one million jobs by 2028, and a doubling of the sector’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution from 1.5 per cent to 3 per cent by 2035. Presenting a paper titled: “Nigeria’s Blue Economy and Ports Infrastructural Development: The NPA Perspective” at the national conference, Dr Dantsoho highlighted the vast investment opportunities in Nigeria’s blue economy, which he noted to include areas like the development of inland waterways, expansion of port infrastructure, and maritime technology solutions. The conference had as its theme: “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New?” Dantsoho, who was represented by the Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex, Adebowale Ibrahim, described the blue economy as a pivotal driver of sustainable development, disclosing that the government has created an enabling environment for investments through policy reforms, incentives, and partnerships with international organisations. “The blue economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and job creation while preserving the health of ocean ecosystems.” With Nigeria’s 853-kilometer coastline and extensive inland waterways, the nation is uniquely positioned to harness these resources for economic diversification,” he said. Dr Dantsoho emphasised the critical role of ports in facilitating the blue economy. According to him, the NPA is at the forefront of advancing the sector by ensuring efficient port operations, adopting eco-friendly technologies, generating significant national revenue, and enhancing maritime security. The NPA’s strategic focus, he said, aligns with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” to drive growth and sustainability in the maritime sector. Key sectors of the blue economy identified by the NPA boss include maritime transportation, fisheries and aquaculture, energy resources, tourism and recreation, and seabed mining. He highlighted the immense potential of these sectors in driving economic diversification and creating opportunities for Nigerians.. He said the growth would be achievable through strategic investments and partnerships that would drive efficiency, sustainability and innovation in port operations. To achieve the ambitious goals, he said, the NPA is adopting a multi-pronged funding approach, including increased government budgetary allocations for critical port projects, harnessing Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) expertise and funding. Others, he listed, are partnering with development banks and global agencies and channelling revenue generated by ports back into infrastructure and service improvements. He, however, acknowledged the challenges facing the maritime sector, such as infrastructure deficits, funding inadequacies and security concerns. Dantsoho outlined actionable solutions to the challenges to include, accelerated investments in port infrastructure, strengthened maritime security through collaborations with global organisations and policy reforms to attract both foreign and domestic investors. He further reaffirmed NPA’s commitment to driving the Blue Economy forward and positioning Nigeria as a leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.

President reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to women’s rights, end to violence President expressed his satisfaction that in Pakistan, they were making meaningful efforts to end violence against women ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed on the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’, that they were united in solidarity with women and girls across the world who endured violence in many forms. “This day serves as a reminder to intensify our efforts to end violence against women and girls,” he said in a message on the eve of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. According to statement issued from President House Media Wing on Sunday, President Zardari reaffirmed commitment to protect the rights of women, provide them with a safe and enabling environment, and reduce gender-based violence. “We need to empower women by providing them education, focusing on their skill-building and ensuring their financial independence. It is also essential to raise awareness about women’s rights and eliminate violence against them,” he stressed. The president said that violence against women was a pervasive human rights issue that affected nearly one in three women globally. “The urgency for immediate and collective action could be gauged from the fact that thousands of women lost their lives annually in acts of violence, he observed. “This year’s theme “Every 10 Minutes, a Woman is Killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women” calls upon us to increase investments in prevention strategies, survivor support, and systemic reforms to address this grave violation of human rights”, he said. The president said Pakistan stood committed to this cause, aligning its national efforts with this global call to action. “Former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto championed the rights of women,” he said, adding in her address at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, she called for economic independence, social equality, and education of women. “She firmly believed in creating a society free from exploitation and maltreatment of women where they could rise to the highest level in politics, business, diplomacy, and other spheres of life,” he further added. The president expressed his satisfaction that in Pakistan, they were making meaningful efforts to end violence against women. “We have enacted laws to protect them against sexual violence, and harassment at workplaces. Pakistan has also established Family Protection Centres and Women’s Crisis Shelters and increased access to counselling, helplines, and legal aid. Yet, we still have a long way to go. Violence continues to limit women’s access to education, employment, and equal opportunities, particularly for those in vulnerable communities,” he added. President Zardari said through their collective efforts, they could create a safer environment where no woman was subjected to violence.A water main break left a muddy mess on a busy Philadelphia road Sunday, forcing a fire station to operate out of other locations and some residents out of their homes for hours. The pipe burst around Girard Avenue and 4th Street on the edge of the Northern Liberties neighborhood on Nov. 24, 2024, according to authorities. Philadelphia news 24/7: Watch NBC10 free wherever you are The break caused part of the road to collapse and sent water rushing into a nearby firehouse. “There was a partial road collapse," Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said. "Partial street collapse here at this location as well. And in fact, a vehicle sunk down into the collapsed hole.” That vehicle belongs to a city firefighter who was working the AACR Philadelphia Marathon when they learned what happened. Philadelphia Fire Department spokesperson Rachel Cunningham told NBC10 that Engine 29 sustained water damage and mud and that the companies housed there (Engine 29, Rescue 1, Medic 15) were temporarily moved to other stations while cleaning takes place. "They will still respond to all calls in their local area," Cunningham said. "We want to assure residents there will be no impact to fire and EMS service responses during this time." Breaking news and the stories that matter to your neighborhood. As of Sunday night, water remained out to several surrounding properties, forcing some residents from their homes. “A little stressed, a little overwhelmed," displaced resident Myliah said. "I’m trying to go watch the Eagles game. So, little disappointed I’m missing kickoff, but here we are." Crews could be seen working on the damaged ground. The city said getting Girard Avenue open to both vehicles and the SEPTA trolley is the top priority. The cause of the main break remained under investigation late Sunday. The students at the Montessori Elementary & Middle School are great in academics, but being competitive in sports is the one thing that was lacking. I introduced physical education in 2022-2023, emphasizing the importance of an active lifestyle. It is a component in each student to understand fundamentals in physical activity, attitude, and behaviors. In 2023-2024, we started an after-school program in sports, more specifically in basketball, twice a week just to see how the students interact and the knowledge they have. In the spring of 2024, I spoke to the Head Principal, Dr. Rigg, to ask if we could have a team — to build self-confidence and social skills and develop fundamentals that contribute to understanding how to deal with situations by controlling emotions and approaching them in an educated way. During the summer, I was constantly reaching out to the Boys & Girls Club, hoping to be part of their basketball league for next season and there was a spot available in August. The athletic director placed us in the 4th/5th grade boys basketball group. As soon as we were locked in, I had to get my group of boys. I didn't hold any tryouts but just accepted those who had signed up. My boys didn't have any experience in competitive basketball. However, I told them that making a commitment to a team takes a lot of work and teaches you how to show up. For me, it's not just being there and telling them to dribble and shoot. Every student has a certain way of learning and if you teach the who, what, where, when, and how, students will understand quicker than we know. By Montessori having a basketball team for the very first time, a mascot was given to us, we became the Condors. The Montessori Condors — which I'm very proud of and grateful for. As a private school, there isn't a league for us but we are thankful for the opportunity with the Boys & Girls Club because we need leagues like this that compete within schools regardless of whether you are private or public. Everyone should be given the opportunity to compete. The more schools that compete within our community here in Tracy, the more opportunity for the kids to build their confidence level in the most positive way. In our first year, the Montessori Condors reached the playoffs and faced Poet-Christian on Nov. 19. We came up short but fought with heart and pride and represented our school. (Image: X) In a groundbreaking discovery, scientists have now identified a new amphipod species in the Atacama Trench , South America's western coast. This new species called the Dlucibella Camanchaca was found in 2023 during an Integrated Deep Ocean Observing System Expedition and it was at a depth of 7,902 meters. The Atacama Trench is about 8,000 meters below the Pacific ocean surface and the new amphipod is an unexplored creature it was found in the region which had intense pressure, near-freezing temperatures, and complete darkness. What is Dulcibella Camanchaca? The amphipod has been classified under the Eusiridae family and it has now become a significant addition to deep-sea biodiversity . It looks like a ghostly white snailfish and it seems to be alien to the world. In search of extraterrestrial life, NASA apart from space has planned to dig deep into earth with ever-improving technologies. The space organization funded multiple deep-sea exploration and some astrobiologists have teamed up with marine biologists and oceanographers to probe the boundaries of the Earth's core. A recent study published in the journal Systematics and Biodiversity introduces one such species: Dulcibella camanchaca, a newly identified deep-sea crustacean. It’s the first known large, active predatory amphipod from the hadal depths. A study was conducted on the Dulcibella Camanchaca and the researchers noted that it is a new species highlighting the biodiversity in the ocean. Measuring about 4 centimeters, these amphipods survive by preying on other amphipods. The study noted that Dulcibella Camancaha is a fast-swimming predator and its pale white color helps it to survive in the pitch-black sea. A biodiversity hotspot The Atacama trench is naturally formed by the collision of tectonic plates and it is isolated from other ocean trenches creating a distinct ecosystem. The environmental conditions there make it a hotspot for endemic species like amphipods, snailfish, and mud dragons. The trench has largely been unexplored and now with the study findings of amphipods, it is likely that alien-like predators are still under deep earth. Future research With deep sea exploration, the researchers are using a lander vehicle equipped with baited traps that help them collect specimens from the trench. Four Dulcibella camanchaca individuals were collected at a depth of 7,902 meters and starting with amphipods, more detailed research exploration is said to take place.

70th ABVP National Convention Gorakhpur: Remembering the contributions of freedom fighters and youth leaders during the Indian freedom movement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged the youth to continue working towards building a strong nation at the 70th annual national convention of the BJP's student wing – the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Gorakhpur on Sunday. IPL 2025 mega auction IPL Auction 2025 Live: KKR break bank for Venkatesh Iyer, Ashwin returns to CSK IPL 2025 Auction LIVE: Updated Full Team Squads IPL Auction 2025: Who got whom Urging the youth to embrace science and technology to navigate the modern era efficiently, Yogi emphasised the need to harmonise knowledge and virtue. Cautioning against the failure to adapt, he warned that it could lead to significant challenges and hardships, urging young people to make the best use of technology in their respective fields. Addressing a special session on the closing day of the convention, held at Deendayal Upadhyay University, the UP CM said that no country in the world matches India's zeal for knowledge. Referring to the ABVP's motto – Gyaan, Sheel, Ekta (knowledge, modesty, and unity) – Yogi told the audience that just as knowledgeable ‘Rishis' carried wisdom with them, today's youth should follow the teachings of the Gita. He quoted, "Na Hi Gyanen Sadisham Pavitramih Vidyate" (nothing is purer than knowledge), urging the youth to acquire complete knowledge in subjects that interest them. Referring to the initial resistance towards computerisation in the 90s, Yogi pointed out that what was once opposed has now become part of daily life. Technologies like smartphones, internet services, online work culture, power, telephones, television, aeroplanes, microwaves, GPS, and social media have all advanced and integrated into everyday existence, he added. Yogi emphasised that the right-minded youth, willing to serve society and the nation, can use technology to strengthen both. However, he cautioned the youth against falling victim to negative influences. "Technology becomes a tool for public and national welfare when used effectively. But in the hands of wrongdoers, it can become a weapon to spread terror and destruction," he said. The CM stressed the importance of understanding the timeline of tasks and making preparations accordingly. "In the past, great sages like Dadhichi made supreme sacrifices for the greater good. But today, instead of focusing on self-sacrifice, we should focus on harnessing the power of technology," Yogi said. He encouraged the youth to introspect, stating that the biggest challenge of the present age is to remain human. "To remain human, one must be knowledgeable and virtuous. The Vedic principle ‘Sab Saath Chale, Sab Saath Badhe' must be embraced by all. By prioritizing Rashtradharma (national duty) over everything else, we can pave the way for the welfare of humanity," said Yogi. Yogi reaffirmed that only by following the path of national duty can India achieve the goal of being a developed, self-reliant, and self-sufficient nation by its centenary of independence in 2047. He called for collective efforts to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. "As the youngest nation globally, with 56% of the population being youth, the energy you provide will give the country a new direction," he said. Citing examples from both mythological and revolutionary eras, Yogi highlighted how youth power shaped history. He mentioned how Lord Ram protected the innocent and upheld unity in his youth, and how Krishna freed Mathura from the tyranny of Kansa. He also referenced figures like Buddha, Mahavira, Adi Shankaracharya, Guru Gobind Singh, and the four Sahibzadas, whose youthful energy transformed the course of history. He further cited Chhatrapati Shivaji, Maharana Pratap, the brave freedom fighters of 1857 like Maharana Lapat, and revolutionaries such as Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil, Thakur Roshan Singh, Ashfaqulla Khan, Chandrashekhar Azad, and Veer Savarkar, who contributed significantly to the country. In the realm of science, Yogi pointed out that Louis Braille created the script for the visually impaired at just 15, Einstein formulated the theory of relativity at 16, and Newton developed the theory of gravity at 23. "These examples show how youth energy has always been a force for transformation and progress," he said. Yogi also praised the ABVP as one of the world's largest youth organizations, noting that it channels youth energy in the right direction. "I am proud to have been a member of this organisation during my student life. It is a matter of great fortune to have been a part of the Vidyarthi Parishad," he said. He also felicitated Dipesh Nair, co-founder of the Training and Educational Centre for Hearing Impaired (TEACH) in Thane, with the Professor Yashwantrao Kelkar Yuva Award.

Mikaela Shiffrin's bid for a milestone 100th alpine World Cup victory was on hold after the US superstar crashed out of the Killington giant slalom won by Sweden's Sara Hector on Saturday. Shiffrin, already the owner of the most World Cup victories in history, was poised to claim a once unimaginable century after topping the first-run times. She looked on course for the win when she crashed heavily in the second leg and Sweden's Olympic gold medallist Hector emerged with the victory with a total of 1min 53.08sec. Shiffrin, whose mistake rounding a turn caused her to lose her balance and slide through a gate, lost one ski and careened into the catch-fencing. She was taken from the course on a sled, offering a wave to fans on her way. The extent of any possible injuries she might have suffered was not immediately known. "Mikaela took the sled down and is currently being evaluated," USA Ski & Snowboard said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter. "More info to come, but take solace in the fact that she asked about her splits." Shiffrin, 29, already has 13 more World Cup wins than the most successful man, Ingemar Stenmark, and 17 more than the second woman, compatriot Lindsey Vonn. Needing three wins to hit 100 to start the season, she bagged her 98th and 99th career titles with back-to-back slalom wins in Levi, Finland, and Gurgl, Austria. That gave her a chance to complete her century in front of home fans in Killington, not far from where she attended Burke Mountain Academy as a youngster. Shiffrin -- who has won six slaloms at Killington but never a giant slalom -- was greeted by ecstatic cheers as she crossed the finish line of the first leg atop the times by 32-hundredths of a second. She was 17-hundredths of a second ahead of Hector after the second sector of her second run. But her day ended not in celebration but in a rare "Did Not Finish" -- just her 21st in 274 career starts and her first in giant slalom since January of 2018. Shiffrin was sidelined six weeks last season after suffering a knee injury when she crashed in a downhill on the Olympia delle Tofane course in Italy, which will be used for the 2026 Olympics. She returned to finish the season, but ruled out competing in speed events. Vonn, who has just announced plans to come out of retirement, posted on social media: "Hope @MikaelaShiffrin is OK." Hector was delighted with her sixth World Cup victory after what she described as "a little period when I doubted myself," at the start of the season. "I had a period where I was not skiing good in training and I really had to work a lot mentally," she said. "The last weeks I would say have been a rollercoaster." But she was full of sympathy for Shiffrin. "It's just so sad, of course, to see her crash like that. She was skiing so well. It breaks my heart." Croatia's Zrinka Ljutic finished second, 54-hundredths of a second behind Hector, and Switzerland's Camille Rast was third, 1.05 seconds back. It was a first-ever podium finish for both and Rast, in third as Shiffrin started her second run, wasn't expecting it. "I was down (in the finish area), looking at Mikaela and (thinking) 'OK, fourth place again and it's fine in GS," she said. "I hope she is hurt not so bad ... I hope she will be back soon." The women are scheduled to race a slalom on Sunday. After that the schedule is up in the air after the two giant slaloms scheduled for Tremblant, Canada, next weekend had been cancelled for lack of snow. bb/js
