The captains of two Premier League teams are in the spotlight for their choices as the competition celebrates LGBTQ+ inclusion in its campaign to promote equality and diversity. Rainbow-colored captain armbands were issued to the 20 clubs for matches last weekend and the current midweek round. Ipswich's Sam Morsy has been the only captain in action who didn't wear the rainbow armband, in games against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and Crystal Palace on Tuesday. Ipswich said after the Forest game that Morsy made the decision “due to his religious beliefs.” Morsy, a British-born Egypt midfielder, is a practicing Muslim. Ipswich said it “respect(s) the decision” of Morsy but is “committed to being a fully inclusive club." “We will continue to grow an environment where all are valued and respected, both on and off the pitch," Ipswich said. Palace captain Marc Guehi wore a rainbow armband bearing the words “I love Jesus” on it during the match against Newcastle on Saturday. A heart was used instead of the word “love.” The England defender, who is a devout Christian, and Palace were contacted by the Football Association reminding them that the appearance on, or incorporation in, any item of clothing, soccer boots or other equipment of any religious message is prohibited under Rule A4 of the governing body’s regulations, Britain's PA news agency reported Tuesday. For the game against Ipswich, Guehi's message on the rainbow armband read, “Jesus loves you” — again using a heart sign. It raises the prospect of the player being sanctioned by the FA for defying its rules. Addressing the issue after the match, Palace manager Oliver Glasner said: “We respect every player and especially Marc. He is our captain. Everyone knows he is a great guy, very humble, and I don’t think we should make it bigger than it is. In football we are all against discrimination and it’s a great campaign. “We spoke about it. He’s no child, he’s an adult, he has his opinion and we respect it.” The league's Rainbow Laces campaign, introduced in 2013, is in partnership with LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall and includes a range of activities to “highlight community and education initiatives designed to encourage discussion and promote allyship with LGBTQ+ communities,” the competition said. Rainbow Laces branding is widely visible within stadiums on things like corner flags and ball plinths. It is not mandatory for captains to wear the rainbow armband and it is deemed a personal choice. Last season, Anel Ahmedhodzic, the then-Sheffield United captain, wore a standard armband instead of the rainbow version. In France, Nantes fined striker Mostafa Mohamed for refusing to play against Toulouse last year on the weekend teams wore rainbow-colored numbers on their jerseys to support the fight against homophobia. In May, Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara was given a four-game suspension by the league for covering up an anti-homophobia message on the team’s shirt during the club’s final league game of the season. NeuroPace Completes Enrollment in Feasibility Study of RNS System for Lennox-Gastaut SyndromeMumbai: BEST general manager Anil Diggikar on Saturday announced that the undertaking will continue operations of 12m-long buses outside railway stations and in congested areas. "There is no plan to withdraw long buses from congested routes...There are no diversions anywhere in the city," he told TOI. On Saturday morning, the BEST resumed service of its long electric AC bus on route A-332 from Kurla station. This is the same route where a BEST bus, driven by wet-lease driver Sanjay More, crashed into several vehicles and pedestrians, resulting in seven fatalities last Monday. The undertaking also resumed another 12m-long electric AC bus on route A-311 from Kurla West station to Santacruz East station. A senior official said that with A-332 and A-311 being reintroduced from Kurla West station, the BEST has now resumed 100% operations in the area. This was shut down for 3-4 days after the fatal crash, inconveniencing commuters who were at the mercy of autorickshaws demanding hefty fares outside Kurla station. The BEST has also positioned vigilance officers to ensure orderly queues at bus stops and police bandobast, including a riot control police van, at Kurla station. A senior official from BEST's traffic wing said that a five-member committee was scrutinising all documents submitted by the six wet-lease bus contractors. "They have furnished details of existing recruitment processes for contract drivers and their training protocols. They have also suggested modifications and enhancements to the training programme following the recent incident at Kurla," he elaborated, adding that these recommendations were being documented alongside the new measures announced by Diggikar. "We shall compile all measures to finalise a comprehensive SOP for wet lease drivers' training — to be announced next week," the official added. Diggikar has announced mandatory simulator-based training for all drivers alongside introducing breathalysers at all bus depots for drivers beginning and concluding their shifts from next week. The BEST GM also questioned the private contractor for the Kurla bus, demanding comprehensive details about the driver More, including his training prior to assignment on the e-AC bus, which is a larger vehicle with sophisticated technology. Stocks likely to move up amid key policy rate cut expectations KARACHI: Stocks increased above 5,000 points, or around 5.0 per cent, and remained the top-performing market in the world in terms of dollar returns for the second consecutive week. The market is likely to keep the upward momentum amid expectations of a higher cut in the key policy rate next week. “The market participants are expected to closely monitor the MPC meeting on December 16 (which will mark the final MPC of CY24),” said brokerage Arif Habib Ltd. “We project a 200bps cut in the monetary policy rate, arriving at 13 per cent. Hence, the KSE-100 index is expected to continue with the bullish streak.” The market remained buoyant throughout the week, with the KSE-100 index crossing the 115,000 points mark. The bullish momentum prevailed amid positive economic indicators coupled with expectations of a rate cut in the upcoming monetary policy committee meeting in the upcoming week. The market closed at 114,302 points, significantly up by 5,248 points or 4.8 per cent week-on-week. With this, Pakistan continues to be the world’s best-performing market in terms of USD-based return for the second consecutive week. Analyst Nabeel Haroon at Topline Securities said the KSE 100 index gained 4.83 per cent on a WoW basis making it the eighth consecutive positive closing as expectations of an interest rate cut in the upcoming monetary policy meeting kept the investor interest robust, and continuous buying by mutual funds provided further stimulus to the market. Wadee Zaman, an analyst at JS Research, said Pakistan’s remittance inflows continued to remain elevated in November, clocking around the $3 billion mark with a 29 per cent year-on-year increase. “With the current run-rate, the $35 billion annual target projected by the finance minister earlier this week appears attainable,” he said. In the recent T-bill auction, the government raised Rs1,256 billion against a target of Rs1,200 billion, with yields decreasing by up to 100bps across different tenors. The finance minister said that the government’s external financing gap had been met for the current year, leaving no urgency to tap international financial markets until Pakistan’s credit rating improves. During the week, the federal cabinet approved settlement agreements with eight bagasse-fired IPPs, this initiative is expected to result in a reduction in electricity prices. Furthermore, passenger car sales recorded a significant jump of 62 per cent YoY in November. Meanwhile, the banking sector’s ADR increased to 47.8 per cent in November compared to 44.3 per cent in October. SBP reserves climbed up by $13 million to $12.1 billion.

President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers urge judge to toss his hush money convictionBashar Assad's 24-year rule came to an end on Sunday as , the Syrian capital. Shortly after insurgents declared the city "free," Russia's foreign ministry announced Assad had resigned his position and left the country. Russian state news later reported that Assad had arrived in Moscow, where he was granted asylum. The collapse of Assad's government came after a coalition of opposition forces led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched a surprise offensive, seizing control of major cities like Aleppo, Hama, and Homs in a matter of days. Syrians around the world celebrated the end of Assad's rule, which was marked by brutal suppression. His violent crackdown on peaceful anti-government protests in 2011, part of the Arab Spring uprisings, sparked a civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions, straining neighboring countries like Turkey and Lebanon. World leaders conveyed cautious optimism after news of Assad's ouster, but uncertainty remains around what kind of government and leader will replace him. One major player will almost certainly be HTS, which is led by Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, a Syrian who fought against US occupation in Iraq alongside a branch of Al Qaeda. Jolani later returned to Syria, his homeland, where he fought with Jabhat Al-Nusra — an Al Qaeda offshoot formed in 2012 — and other rebel groups against Assad's forces. Jolani severed his ties with Al Qaeda in 2016 and formed a new group, which eventually became HTS in 2017. Since then, Jolani has portrayed himself as a more moderate leader to gain international legitimacy. Both the United States and the United Nations still list HTS as a terrorist organization. In one 2021 interview with , Jolani called the group's terrorist designation a "political label that carries no truth or credibility." "Through our 10-year journey in this revolution, we haven't posed any threat to Western or European society: no security threat, no economic threat, nothing. That's why this designation is politicized," he said. In recent years, HTS has controlled Syria's northwestern Idlib Province, where analysts say it worked to consolidate power and transform its image while pursuing its ultimate goal of toppling Assad. In Idlib, Jolani established the so-called Syrian Salvation Government, which has acted as a showcase for what his leadership could bring to a wider area. Speaking about the Salvation Government in the PBS interview, Jolani said that while the situation in Idlib was not ideal, there was "a self-asserting model that was capable of running the affairs of a whole country under an Islamic rule." While some have remained doubtful that the group has fully cut its links with Al Qaeda, it has put forth a message of inclusiveness and unity in recent days, calling for a peaceful transition of power and reassuring religious and ethnic minorities in Syria. "In the future Syria ... diversity is our strength, not a weakness," the group said in a statement to the Kurdish minority in Aleppo. Aron Lund, a fellow at Century International and a Middle East analyst at the Swedish Defense Research Agency, told that while Jolani and his group had changed, they remained "pretty hardline." "It's PR, but the fact they are engaging in this effort at all shows they are no longer as rigid as they once were," he said, referencing video footage showing Jolani forbidding fighters from entering homes and telling them to protect citizens. "Old-school Al Qaeda or the Islamic State would never have done that." HTS is only one part of an ideologically diverse opposition, and it remains to be seen if the coalition can peacefully share power and extend unified control over the whole country. "If not, intra-Syrian territorial fragmentation, and the potential emergence of regional warlords and fiefdoms, will quickly grow," Jonathan Panikoff, the director of the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council's Middle East Program, told Business Insider. The NFL script writing its games has become a go-to joke for its fans, and Jameis Winston just gave them another reason to crack it. Winston has started to go viral in recent weeks with his pre-game speeches. He was captured on video giving another enthralling speech to his teammates before they ran onto the field against the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend. Winston’s exact words were, “I don’t want to spoil a secret, but it’s already written what the Cleveland Browns will do today.” Football fans have been claiming since the beginning of 2023 that the sport is scripted, much like WWE. It’s arguably used half the time as a coping mechanism for fans after they lose a game they feel they should have won. The other half the time, it’s just a running bit. But fans took Winston’s speech and ran with it, to say the least. While his words might be taken out of context, Winston provided the NFL conspiracy theorists with video gold. More continued to poke fun at the running joke. If the NFL was scripted, this would probably be a video they’d want scrubbed from the internet. And if Cleveland goes on to get an upset victory in Week 14, fans might be calling for an investigation. Jokes aside, one fan simply wanted more Jameis speeches in his life. Winston has really taken social media by storm in recent weeks. His personality is so unique and likable that it feels like a camera is always on him whenever he speaks. But this time, he went viral for all the wrong reasons. However, Winston’s words may have been misinterpreted. He is a very religious person; he recently gave a speech about his teammate, Deshaun Watson, and referenced his faith many times. It’s quite likely that Winston was just referencing a relation between his faith and manifesting destiny. He did give a speech along similar lines earlier in the season. Nevertheless, the conspiracy of the NFL being scripted lives on. While there have been some suspicious moments in recent seasons, there is no proof to support this belief. The level of coordination and effort that would be required for such a scheme is far greater than simply playing the games fairly and accepting the outcomes. Additionally, the level of secrecy necessary would be impossible to maintain in today’s digital age. What makes the WWE fun is that people who watch it know that it’s scripted. They are purely there for the entertainment. It would make no sense for the NFL to script their games too — as they are already full of entertainment naturally. But it won’t stop fans of the theory from picking apart every little shred of evidence like Winston provided.Axed Strictly star Jamie Borthwick breaks down in tears after fans fumed ‘the wrong person was sent home’

British courts would be required to decide whether to enforce an international arrest warrant should Benjamin Netanyahu enter the UK, according to the Government. Foreign Office minister Hamish Falconer was repeatedly urged by MPs to give a definitive answer on the UK’s likely action after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for the Israeli prime minister and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Mr Falconer said there is a domestic legal process to be followed through the courts that “determines whether or not to endorse an arrest warrant” by the ICC, adding this has “never been tested” as the UK has yet to be visited by an ICC indictee. In reply to Labour MP Sarah Owen (Luton North), Mr Falconer told the Commons: “I’d like to just be clear that what I have said this afternoon is not that the Government will uphold arrest warrants. “What I have been clear about this afternoon is that due process will be followed. These are questions for independent courts in the UK, and it is independent courts that would review the arrest warrants if that situation were to arise.” Responding to an urgent question on the ICC’s decision, Mr Falconer earlier said: “In line with this Government’s stated commitment to the rule of law, we respect the independence of the ICC. We will comply with our international obligations. “There is a domestic legal process through our independent courts that determines whether or not to endorse an arrest warrant by the ICC, in accordance with the ICC Act of 2001. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer with Hamish Falconer (Stefan Rouseau/PA) “There is no moral equivalence between Israel, a democracy, and Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, two terrorist organisations. This Government has been clear, Israel has a right to defend itself in accordance with international law, that right is not under question, and the court’s approval of the warrants last week do not change that.” For the Conservatives, Dame Priti said: “In charging Israeli leaders alongside Hamas, the ICC appears to be drawing a moral equivalence between Israel’s war of self-defence and Hamas terrorism. We utterly reject any moral equivalence. “The only beneficiaries of this decision are Hamas and their terrorist sponsors Iran, who are now celebrating this propaganda coup as a great victory for Hamas and Hezbollah. Since the ICC decision, we have had dither from ministers and confused messaging and no clarity. So I’m grateful to the minister today for his remarks. “And as to the issue of warrants, we have raised serious concerns over process, jurisdiction and the position on complementarity principle, and believe the warrants of Mr Netanyahu and Gallant have no basis in international law.” Benjamin Netanyahu with Yoav Gallant (Abir Sultan/AP) “And could he confirm that customarily international law does not permit the arrest or the delivering of the serving prime minister of a non-state party to the ICC? “So he’s committing to due process but he’s not committing to arrest. Am I correct in understanding that?” Mr Falconer replied: “There’s domestic legal process through our independent courts, we cannot prejudge that process. “I note that the shadow attorney general has written to the Attorney General on questions of detail in relation to some of the points you allude to and the Attorney General tells me he’ll be writing back on those more detailed points.” Dame Priti Patel (Victoria Jones/PA) Independent MP Iqbal Mohamed (Dewsbury and Batley) said: “The ICC arrest warrants are welcome but in themselves will not bring an end to Israeli war crimes and ethnic cleansing and the killing of innocent men, women and children.” Several MPs, including Labour’s Melanie Ward (Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy), also repeated calls for the Government to sanction Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich and national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Mr Falconer told MPs: “I recognise the two that I’ve been pressed on the most this afternoon are of intense political interest. But despite their intense political interest, were we to prejudge sanctions and trail them in this House before we made them, we would reduce their impact. “The same is true of the hundreds of sanctions that we have done on Russia over the years and the same in every forum.”Retail giant LuLu Hypermarket has launched the “Qatari Products: Our First Choice” festival at its D-Ring Road outlet, marking a grand celebration of local products, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality. To run until December 18, the festival highlights Qatar's finest food and non-food products, celebrating the nation’s cultural heritage and traditions. Since its inception in 2010, the festival has become a hallmark event across all LuLu outlets in the region, showcasing locally produced goods while supporting small Qatari businesses and entrepreneurs. Shoppers can explore a wide range of fresh produce, such as vegetables, herbs, chicken, eggs, Arabic lamb and beef, chilled and frozen items, dairy, processed foods, baked goods, groceries, health and beauty products, linens, pillow and table covers, bed sheets, and much more. The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of dignitaries including Saud al-Marri from the ministry’s Food Security Department, Ahmed al-Yafei from the ministry’s Agricultural Affairs Department, Safwa Farm general manager Fardan al-Fardan, Mahaseel Company general manager Mohammed Ismail al-Mohammed, and LuLu Group international director Dr Mohamed Althaf. Senior Lulu officials and distinguished Qataris from public and private sector organisations were also present. Speaking at the event, Dr Althaf emphasised Qatar’s advancements in agriculture and food security. “Qatar has made remarkable strides in strengthening its agricultural capabilities and enhancing food security,” he said. “This initiative highlights the progress in local food production, the nation’s growing self-sufficiency, and the availability of high-quality, pesticide-free products.” Over the past eight years, Qatar’s agricultural sector has evolved to meet 80% of the nation’s essential food requirements, a testament to its investment in modern farming technologies and sustainable practices. “This growth is not just about quantity but also quality,” Dr Althaf said. “From high-quality crops to specialty products once imported, Qatar’s farms now offer an impressive range of fresh and local produce.” The festival also serves as a platform to connect consumers with Qatar’s agricultural heritage. By celebrating local farming traditions and culinary practices, it fosters pride in locally produced food and ensures the preservation of traditional agricultural knowledge. While no nation is entirely self-sufficient in food, Qatar has successfully developed a robust supply chain for short-life perishables. The country can now meet immediate food needs within a two-to-three-day window, ensuring continuous availability of fresh produce and dairy products. "This year’s festival showcases over 300+ locally produced items from 35 Qatari farms, along with renowned Qatari brands such as Baladna, Safwa Farm, Agrico Qatar, Dandy, Al Maha, Rawa, Rayyan, Qbake, Pearl, Jawharh, Flora, Gourmet and many more," Dr Althaf added. LuLu Group has been a key player in supporting Qatar’s local farmers and entrepreneurs, promoting their products as part of its social and economic commitment to the nation. The retailer’s long-standing partnerships have helped to market local agricultural produce to a broad audience while contributing to the country’s food security and sustainability goals. These advancements have expanded healthcare access and the opportunity for the local community to have the highest quality of care locally. “Serving this community has been the honor of my lifetime,” said Steven Packer, MD, President and CEO of Montage Health. “As I continue to lead Montage Health through this transition, I am confident in the talented team we have in place and excited to see Dr. McDermott continue advancing our mission of delivering extraordinary care and inspiring the pursuit of optimal health.” Dr. Packer will continue leading the organization into the spring of 2025. “As a local, nonprofit healthcare system, Montage Health has always been about people – our patients, our staff, and the community we serve,” added Warner. “With Dr. McDermott at the helm, we will remain true to that purpose, ensuring access to world-class care while exploring new opportunities to meet the evolving needs of our community.” Locally governed and independent, Montage Health is uniquely equipped to adapt to the future of healthcare while staying deeply rooted in Monterey County. The Board of Trustees looks forward to supporting Dr. McDermott as he leads the organization in its next chapter. For more information about Montage Health, visit www.montagehealth.org . LINCOLN — What was once a major event of the college football season has, in the first week of December, just become one of the subplots. Early signing day is here for Nebraska and every other program, many of which, including NU, have their attention split several ways. Conference title games haven’t even been played yet. The transfer portal — not officially open until Dec. 9 — has nevertheless been whirling with at least seven Husker departures since Monday. NU has lost one coordinator, locked another up for two years, and set its sights on Kentucky assistant Daikiel Shorts to coach receivers. Matt Rhule’s early afternoon press conference may focus just as much — perhaps more — on topics as the 2025 recruiting class, which stood Tuesday evening at 19 members. By the time Rhule talks about the class, it could grow by a few or in theory shrink, were commits inclined to balk at the departure of Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White. That hasn’t been the case so far, as some of the highest-rated prospects in the class — four-star linebackers Dawson Merritt and Christian Jones — had reaffirmed their commitment to Nebraska through social media statements. Nebraska awaits final answers from at least three prospects, though Dalkiel’s imminent hiring could, in theory, bring more options into play. »San Antonio Alamo Heights High School five-star athlete Michael Terry, a prospect of few interviews who has narrowed his list to home-state Texas, Nebraska and Oregon, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder’s top three schools for months. He’ll announce a choice at his 8:15 a.m. signing ceremony on Wednesday. At NU, Terry projects to wideout. »Homestead (Florida) High School four-star receiver Cortez Mills has long been committed to Oklahoma, but recruiting site reporters have him trending to flip to Nebraska. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Mills caught 79 passes for 1,640 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, breaking Miami-Dade County single-season marks. Mills’ signing ceremony takes place between 8:05-9:30 a.m. in the school’s auditorium. »Kahuka (Hawaii) High School three-star safety Aidan Manutai remains a Husker target, though he’s currently committed to California. The 6-foot, 170-pound Manutai would be part of a defensive backs group that could vie for early playing time. »Another potential prospect to watch is Kentucky receiver commit Dejerrian Miller, who verbally pledged to Shorts and the Wildcats last week and plays prep football at St. Louis Cardinal Ritter, the same school as Husker running back commit Jamarion Parker. Miller did not previously have Nebraska among his top group of suitors and may stick in the SEC. In total, NU plans to sign six in-state commitments — headlined by Jones, an Omaha Westside linebacker — to financial aid papers, as the NCAA in October eliminated the national letter of intent, which binds prospects to school. The group of six — Jones, Omaha North defensive tackle Tyson Terry, Millard North athletes Pierce Mooberry and Caden VerMaas, Wahoo Neumann running back Conor Booth and Lincoln Southwest receiver Jackson Carpenter — are part of one of the strongest corps of in-state recruits in years. Fifteen prospects are poised to sign with FBS programs, with 12 of those headed to power conferences. Unless Terry or Mills flips to NU, Merritt, out of Overland Park (Kansas) Blue Valley High School, is NU’s highest-ranked player in the 2025 class. Thirteen of the 19 prospects in the class have a four-star according to at least one of the four major recruiting services — 247 Sports, ESPN, On3 and Rivals. And all but 247 Sports, as of Tuesday evening ranked NU’s class as No. 20 in the nation. 247 Sports had the Huskers 22nd. Mailbag: Why the Hotline is tough on Washington, Big Ten TV matters, options for the Pac-12, the SEC and the CFP and moreEPL: Man City contract talks on hold — De BruyneThe Kraken were 0-3 at Madison Square Garden in the franchise’s three-year history, until they turned the game upside down in the second period Sunday afternoon. It was a 20-minute span in the Kraken’s eventual 7-5 win that saw Seattle score four times on 11 total shots. Everything seemed to end up in the back of the Rangers net, but a multitude of turnovers and breakdowns exacerbated the situation and carried over into the third period. “The goals were the chances, that was it,” head coach Peter Laviolette said. “We had the pieces in place and when it came down to the point where it had to be defended, it got loose. Definitely not what you’re looking for, you’re in charge of a game 3-1 and like I said, the chances were the goals. We could’ve been tighter and better in those situations.” The Kraken swarmed around the Rangers net on Brandon Tanev’s 3-2 score at the 14:06 mark of the middle frame. Less than a minute and a half later, the middle of the Rangers zone was exposed on Eeli Tolvanen’s goal. There wasn’t much to be done about Oliver Bjorkstand’s second goal of the game — a net-front deflection off a Brandon Montour shot — which gave the Kraken their first lead of the night at the end of the second. But it bled into the final frame, with a long-range one-timer from Vince Dunn finding its way past Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick before the Kraken slipped behind the Rangers D on Shane Wright’s 6-3 score. “The scoreboard and the goals,” Laviolette said of the switch. “If you go back and look at it, the chances — all of them — were the goals. So at those points in the game, we needed to defend better than what we did. We had the pieces in place, it was a little bit too loose and that looseness cost us.” Igor Shesterkin’s wife went into labor with their second child on Sunday, so the star Rangers netminder did not dress against the Kraken in what has already been an eventful week after signing an NHL-record contract for a goaltender . “He’s proven to be one of the top goaltenders,” Laviolette said. “To take such an important piece on our team and secure that piece for eight years is really reassuring. You think about sports in general, there’s really important positions and when it comes to hockey, goaltending is one of them. We’re fortunate to have one of the better ones.” As a result, the Rangers recalled Dylan Garand from AHL Hartford to backup Quick. Connor Mackey was also brought up to serve as an extra defenseman after Matthew Robertson was returned to the Wolf Pack on Saturday.
