SCHEID FAMILY WINES REPORTS SECOND QUARTER FISCAL 2025 RESULTSSambhal : The Sambhal district administration has written to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for carbon dating of the Bhasma Shankar temple, including a well there, officials said on Sunday, December 15, days after the reopening of the temple locked since 1978 following communal riots in the town. Worshippers have started visiting the temple and it is being guarded round the clock, they said. “This is the temple of Kartik Mahadev. A well has been found here. This is Amrit Koop. Security guards have been permanently posted here and CCTV cameras have also been installed. Puja has also started in the temple. There is encroachment here, which is being removed,” District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya said. “We have written a letter to ASI for carbon dating of the temple and the well,” he added. Carbon dating is a method used to determine the age of archaeological artefacts from ancient sites. Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar said that all roads leading to the temple have been covered with CCTV cameras and a control room is also being set up there. “There will be round-the-clock security in the temple and permanent police deployment is being ensured,” the SP said. Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have been posted at the site. The Bhasma Shankar temple was reopened on Friday after authorities said that they stumbled upon the covered structure during an anti-encroachment drive. Referring to the reopening of the temple, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said it did not appear overnight and represents “our enduring heritage and the truth of our history”. Mahant Acharya Vinod Shukla, the temple priest, said worshippers have begun visiting and offering prayers. Local resident Mohit Rastogi expressed gratitude over the temple’s reopening. “I had heard about this temple from my grandfather,” he said, after offering water to the Shivling and reciting prayers. “I thank the district administration for allowing us to reconnect with our heritage,” he added. The temple is situated in the Khaggu Sarai area which is just over a kilometre away from the Jama Masjid where violence had taken place on November 24 during a protest against a court-ordered survey of a mosque. The temple houses an idol of Lord Hanuman and a Shivling. It had remained locked since 1978 after the communal riots led to the displacement of the local Hindu community, locals claimed. The temple also has a well nearby which the authorities plan to reopen. Some residents on Saturday shared their memories of the temple, with many highlighting its importance for the community. Vishnu Shankar Rastogi, the 82-year-old patron of the Nagar Hindu Mahasabha, said, “I have lived in Khaggu Sarai since my birth. After the 1978 riots, our community was forced to migrate from the area. This temple, dedicated to our Kulguru, has been locked since then.” Weeks after four people died in the violence during the protest against the court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid here, the administration has launched a campaign to tackle encroachments and power theft in areas around the Mughal-era mosque.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is reportedly planning to add displays to its popular Ray-Ban smart glasses, marking a significant step towards integrating augmented reality (AR) into everyday eyewear. This move comes as Meta doubles down on its push to develop “AI-native” devices, with the aim of eventually replacing smartphones as our primary computing platform. According to a recent report by the Financial Times, these displays could be incorporated into a new iteration of the Ray-Ban glasses as early as the second half of 2025. While the exact specifications remain under wraps, sources suggest that the screens will likely be small and primarily used for displaying notifications or responses from Meta’s AI assistant. This suggests that Meta is taking a gradual approach to AR integration , focusing on enhancing existing functionalities rather than creating a full-blown mixed-reality experience right away. This news is particularly exciting because it signals a potential acceleration of Meta’s AR ambitions. Just a few months ago, at Meta Connect 2024, the company unveiled its prototype for “Orion,” a more advanced AR glasses device with holographic displays and deeper AI integration. While it was initially unclear whether Orion would ever see the light of day as a commercial product, the positive response it garnered seems to have invigorated Meta’s AR development efforts. Why is Meta betting big on AR glasses? The answer lies in their vision of the future of computing. Imagine a world where you no longer need to pull out your smartphone to check notifications, get directions, or access information. Instead, all of this would be seamlessly displayed in your field of view through a pair of stylish glasses. This is the promise of AR, and Meta believes it has the potential to revolutionize how we interact with technology and the world around us. What can we expect from these new Ray-Ban glasses? While details are still scarce, here are some potential features based on current trends and Meta’s own research: The Road to Mass Adoption: Challenges and Opportunities While the potential of AR glasses is undeniable, there are still several hurdles to overcome before they become mainstream: Despite these challenges, Meta’s commitment to AR is evident. By starting with small, incremental upgrades to its existing Ray-Ban line, Meta is cleverly laying the groundwork for mass adoption. The familiarity and popularity of the Ray-Ban brand could help overcome some of the social barriers associated with wearing tech-infused glasses. Additionally, by focusing on practical applications like notifications and AI assistance, Meta is demonstrating the real-world value of AR in a way that resonates with consumers. My Personal Take As someone who has been following the development of AR for years, I’m incredibly excited about the prospect of Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses with displays. I believe that wearable technology has the potential to be far more intuitive and integrated into our lives than smartphones, and AR glasses are a crucial step in that direction. I’m particularly interested in seeing how Meta addresses the challenges of battery life and social acceptance. If they can crack those nuts, I think we could be on the cusp of a major shift in how we interact with technology. Meta’s reported plans to add displays to its Ray-Ban glasses represent a significant milestone in the evolution of AR. By combining the style and familiarity of Ray-Ban with the power of AI and augmented reality, Meta is poised to bring this technology to the masses. While challenges remain, the future of AR looks brighter than ever, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what Meta has in store for us next.

Aybak: About 35 miners were trapped under the rubble of a coal mine in Afghanistan’s Samangan province, local officials said on Sunday, December 15. The provincial health director, Sayed Usman Hamidi, counted 35 miners under the debris, saying rescue teams and health personnel have been dispatched to the area to rescue the trapped miners, Xinhua news agency reported. “Preliminary reports indicate that several miners were busy in a coal mine in the Dara-i-Sufi Payin district of Samangan province yesterday, but part of the mine caved in, and resultantly several miners were trapped under rubble,” a statement from the provincial police office released on Sunday said. The statement further said that police personnel, local officials, and villagers have rushed to the site to rescue trapped miners from under the debris. The operations are being continued to rescue workers trapped under the debris but none have been freed yet, according to local Taliban officials. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the Bakhtar News Agency. Earlier this week, two workers died from gas exposure at a coal mine in Bamiyan province’s Khwaja Ganj village. In February 2002, at least 10 miners lost their lives after being trapped underground when a coal mine collapsed in Afghanistan. In 2019, at least 30 people were killed in the collapse of a gold mine in Afghanistan, officials said. The collapse occurred in the Kohistan district of Badakhshan province. Afghanistan houses vast resources of minerals, but many of the mines are old and poorly maintained. Afghanistan’s mining sector has seen frequent fatal accidents, often attributed to inadequate safety measures and a lack of proper equipment. The perfect time to fight corruption is nowGaetz withdraws as Trump's pick for attorney general, averting confirmation battle in the Senate

Mayor Eric Adams vows to work with the Trump administration to get migrants who commit crimes out of New York CityVANCOUVER — British Columbia business owner Joe Chaput will spend $5,500 a month on security guards during the holiday season and plans on upgrading his store’s video camera system for around $5,000 more. He’s not selling luxury brands or expensive jewels. Chaput sells cheese, and at Christmas, cheese is a hot commodity. He is the co-owner of specialty cheese store les amis du Fromage, with two locations in Vancouver. While cheeselifting is rare in their Kitsilano store, the outlet in East Vancouver is hit in waves, with nothing happening for a month, then three of four people trying to steal their inventory within a week. “Sometimes, you miss it. Sometimes, you catch it. The way shoplifters behave ... they tend to gravitate toward expensive things,” said Chaput. Expensive cheese is on shoplifters’ Christmas list, he said. “They tend to do the classic examples of staying away from customer service and trying to go to a different part of the store so they can be left alone to steal.” Chaput isn’t alone. Police say food-related crimes on are the rise in Canada and as prices climb for items such as cheese and butter, they become lucrative on the black market for organized crime groups, not to mention theft for local resale. Sylvain Charlebois, the director of Dalhousie University’s Agri-food Analytics Lab, said a black market tends to emerge as soon as food prices surge. “Organized crime will steal anything (if) they know they can sell it and so, they probably would have known who their clients are before even stealing anything at all, and that’s how a black market is organized,” said Charlebois. He said he believes there are two categories of people shoplifting — those who do so out of desperation because they can’t afford the food, or organized criminals, profiting from sales on the black market. Mounties in North Vancouver made cheesy headlines when they ran into a man with a cart of stolen cheese in the middle of the night in September. The cheese, valued at $12,800, was from a nearby Whole Foods Store. While the cheese was recovered, it had to be disposed of because it hadn’t been refrigerated. Const. Mansoor Sahak, with the North Vancouver RCMP, said officers believe cheese is targeted because it’s “profitable to resell.” “If they are drug addicts, they will commit further crimes with that or feed their drug habits. It’s a vicious cycle,” said Sahak. Sahak said meat is also a top target for grocery thieves, with store losses sometimes in the thousands. “So, we’re not surprised that this happened,” said Sahak. Police in Ontario have been chasing down slippery shoplifters going after butter. Scott Tracey, a spokesman with Guelph Police Service, said there have been eight or nine butter thefts over the last year, including one theft last December worth $1,000. In October, two men walked into a local grocer and filled their carts with cases of butter valued at $936, and four days later a Guelph grocer lost four cases valued at $958. Tracey said he has looked at online marketplaces and found listings by people selling 20 or 30 pounds of butter at a time. “Clearly, somebody didn’t accidentally buy 30 extra pounds of butter. So, they must have come from somewhere,” said Tracey, “I think at this point it appears to be the black market is where it’s headed.” He said the thefts seem to be organized, with two or three people working together in each case. Police in Brantford, Ont., are also investigating the theft of about $1,200 worth of butter from a store on Nov. 4. Charlebois said retailers could invest in prevention technologies like electronic tags, but putting them on butter or cheese is rare. He said up until recently grocery store theft has been a “taboo subject for many years.” Stores didn’t wanted to talk about thefts because they didn’t want to alarm people but now they feel they need to build awareness about what is “becoming a huge problem,” said Charlebois. Chaput, the cheese store owner, said he had been running the East Vancouver store for 15 years while managing the store in Kitsilano for 30 years, and he loves his customers. “It’s really one of the best parts of our businesses, seeing familiar faces and making new customers. It’s why we come to work, really. Partly it’s the cheese, and partly it’s the people,” said Chaput. He said his strategy to combat would-be thieves is to give them extra customer service to make it harder for them to steal. He admits, however, that the shoplifting causes him stress. “It’s challenging. You’re busy trying to run your business day to day and take care of customers and take care of employees. Having to deal with criminals, just kind of scratches away. It can be a bit exhausting,” said Chaput.
Trump vows to block Japanese steelmaker from buying US Steel, pledges tax incentives and tariffsPaver Sealing Services and Other Related Services With Open Sea Pressure Washing 12-27-2024 10:24 PM CET | Politics, Law & Society Press release from: ABNewswire Jacksonville, FL - A surface made of pavers can add visual appeal to any property. For example, a patio made of pavers can serve as a relaxing hangout spot, and a walkway made of pavers can encourage pedestrians to navigate around a scenic area, such as a fountain, small park, or flower garden. It is in the interest of any property owner to maintain their paver surfaces so that they can last longer and stay beautiful. This is why Open Sea Pressure Washing [ https://www.opensea.vet/ ] proudly provides many paver-related services [ https://www.opensea.vet/paver-sealing-company-in-jacksonville-fl/ ] to the Jacksonville, FL community, including paver sealing, paver sanding, and paver leveling. Protect Pavers and Prevent Damage With Paver Sealing All exterior surfaces will take some amount of damage as time passes, and it is no exception for surfaces made of pavers. There are many reasons why this damage can occur. Debris can accumulate on the pavers and gradually erode them. Foot traffic can do the same thing, as can the passage of vehicles in the case of a paver driveway. To reduce the likelihood of this damage, property owners are recommended to invest in paver sealing. The way paver sealing works is not overly complex. The process begins with the application of liquid sealant. Brush a thin layer of this substance onto the pavers, and then, wait twenty-four to forty-eight hours so it can dry. After this time has passed, a thin, transparent barrier will be present around the pavers, shielding them from all sorts of damage. Stabilize Paver Surfaces With Paver Sanding Pavers are held together with a substance known as polymeric sand. However, this sand is not invulnerable, and there is a possibility of it deteriorating over time. Additionally, when pavers are first laid, they will need to be "glued" together with polymeric sand before they can be used as a surface. Property owners can choose to either install their own polymeric sand or reach out to a company such as Open Sea Pressure Washing to fulfill these needs. To install polymeric sand, pour the substance on top of the pavers. Then, use a brush to move the sand into the joints of the pavers. Finally, add water to the sand to cure it. This initiates the process of the sand hardening and adhering the individual pavers together. Ensure Flat Surfaces With Paver Leveling Services Pavers of varying heights do not make for a comfortable surface. That is because individual pavers can just out and become tripping hazards. To prevent a risk of injury, it is important to ensure that pavers are leveled. This is accomplished in most cases with a thin "blanket" of polymeric sand beneath the pavers. The sand is molded into a flat surface, ensuring that all pavers are at the same height. When the polymeric sand is cured, the pavers will be perfectly flat and ready for use by the property's occupants and their guests. Vietnam's ambitions to modernize its military and diversify international partnerships were on full display at the 2024 Vietnam International Defense Expo, an exhibition that concluded with defense enterprises signing 16 contracts worth over $286 million, along with 17 strategic cooperation agreements with international defense firms. The exhibition, which took place from Dec. 19-22 in Hanoi, featured more than 240 defense industry companies and represented 49 countries. Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the expo was “an affirmation of Vietnam's role and contribution in international defense cooperation” and a “symbol of trust, respect and goodwill in cooperation between nations for a world of peace, stability and prosperity.” Experts noted that the vast number of international companies at the exhibition reflected Vietnam’s long-term approach to diversifying its foreign partners. "If you look at the list of invited firms and defense firms and companies at the expo, you can see there’s a wide range of companies from many different countries,” said Hanh Nguyen, a research fellow at the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies based in Japan. “This decision reflects Vietnam's long-standing foreign policy approach, which is to strive to build partnerships with every country regardless of their political system or ideology," he added. Bich Tran, a postdoctoral fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore, shared a similar sentiment, explaining to VOA that the presence of Chinese, Russian and Western countries at the expo showed that Vietnam is committed to the principle of diversifying its foreign relations. “Vietnam has talked about diversifying its arms supplies for many years, but I think Russia’s invasion of Ukraine forced Vietnam to facilitate the process. So with this expo, [Vietnam] has the opportunity to talk with many different partners, to look around to see what will work,” Tran said. American firms Boeing and Lockheed Martin, French company Airbus, and Chinese state-owned China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) attended the expo. NORINCO's participation marked the first time for a Chinese company. Concurrently, Vietnam’s general-secretary of the Communist Party, To Lam, met with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun. Despite the active participation and discussion between Beijing and Hanoi officials, Nguyen said the expo is unlikely to become a breakthrough point for arms sales between the two countries, noting that Vietnam has concerns over the transparency performance of Chinese military equipment. Nguyen The Phuong, a doctoral candidate in maritime security at the University of New South Wales, told VOA that “Vietnam will never, ever buy any lethal weapons from China,” adding that Vietnam’s reluctance to buy weapons from China is a “long-standing principle dating back to the ‘70s and '80s.” Phuong said Vietnam is preparing to advance and upgrade its outdated systems, “focusing on the modernization of the Vietnamese army and maritime defense needs.” “Vietnam is trying to modernize its navy and air force and trying to turn them into modernized and capable services after 2030. So, there are a lot of things that the Vietnamese military wants to improve from buying more aircraft for its air force, building more warships for its navy, and especially the capability to monitor.” Contributing to Hanoi’s need to modernize is the potential for conflict in the South China Sea, a geopolitically disputed territory that is both a critical maritime route for global trade and a region rich in resources, including oil, natural gas and fish stock. On Dec. 10, the South China Morning Post reported that Vietnam is actively building military facilities on several islands and reefs in the Spratly Islands — key territories in the South China Sea. "Vietnam's military strategy in the South China Sea can be summed up in one word: deterrence. Or more precisely, deterrence by denial," said Phuong, explaining that Vietnam’s decisions at the expo reflect an ambition to increase its coastal military capabilities. Another takeaway from the expo is Hanoi’s cooperation with the United States. Speaking at the expo, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Napper said the United States' goal is to ensure that Vietnam "has everything it needs to defend its interests at sea, in the air, on the ground and in cyberspace.” Tran said this goal demonstrates that the U.S.-Vietnam defense cooperation is shifting from a single arms assistance model to a broader multilateral cooperation framework.
