NonePALAKKAD: Palakkad was rich in controversies in the by-election. Deal controversy, black money, trolley bag, spirit, NOTA, and finally newspaper ad controversy similar to the kafir screenshot issue. However, none of this helped the Left Front this time as well. It must be understood that all the controversies in Palakkad, which witnessed political dramas and defections, benefited UDF candidate Rahul Mamkootathil. Rahul's historic victory was a combination of controversies raised by his opponents. During the Lok Sabha elections, the CPM had said that Shafi had come to Vadakara with the understanding that if Shafi was made to win in Vadakara, the BJP would win in Palakkad. However, Krishnakumar could not make even the progress that E Sreedharan made last time. Krishnakumar was never able to make a lead except in the first phase. The CPM was trying to raise controversies and prevent the anti-incumbency against the state government from becoming a topic of discussion. Sarin raised votes, but did not improve position With Rahul's candidature, Dr P Sarin, who had been criticising the CPM and the chief minister on social media till then, joined hands with the LDF in an instant and became the candidate. Though 850 votes were increased over the last time, Sarin's claim of 70,000 votes was shattered. He could only get half of it. The district secretary had often corrected Sarin's stance during the campaign. This was also a topic of debate. No vote for blue trolley bag Allegations that Rahul Mamkootathil smuggled black money in a blue trolley bag changed the course of the elections. The police raided the rooms of even congress women leaders in the middle of the night. This led to a huge controversy. As the allegation could not be proved, it backfired on those who raised the controversy. As there were different opinions within the CPM on the issue, the party had to go back. The UDF also made this a political weapon. This accurately affected the voting. Sandeep's entry Sandeep Warrier's entry into Congress was another occurrence. It was the CPM that first gave a good certificate and opened the door to Sandeep, who left the BJP. However, Sandeep's entry into the Congress was unexpected. With this, the same leaders who gave the good certificate to Sandeep made him hateful. Moreover, a newspaper advertisement with religious and communal content was also issued against Sandeep. This too backfired. The Left's perception that it could create a split in the votes of religious minorities, especially in the Pirayiri panchayat, also went awry. Pirayiri supported Rahul with more votes than Shafi had received last time.

Manhattan police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of 26-year-old Luigi Nicholas Mangione , suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson . Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, while carrying a gun, mask and writings linking him to the ambush. Mangione is being held without bail in Pennsylvania on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police. Late Monday, Manhattan prosecutors charged him with five counts, including murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a forged instrument. Here's the latest: The White House condemns the ‘horrific’ killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre says “violence to combat any sort of corporate greed is unacceptable” and the White House will “continue to condemn any form of violence.” She declined to comment on the investigation into the Dec. 4 shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson or reports that writings belonging to the suspect, Luigi Mangione, said insurance companies care more about profits than their customers. “This is horrific,” Jean-Pierre said of the fatal shooting of Thompson as he walked in Manhattan. Mangione leaves the courthouse He didn’t appear to say anything as deputies led him to a waiting car outside. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul issues a statement on the shooting “I’m deeply grateful to the men and women of law enforcement whose efforts to solve the horrific murder of Brian Thompson led to the arrest of a suspect in Pennsylvania,” Gov. Hochul said in the statement. “I am coordinating with the District Attorney’s Office and will sign a request for a governor’s warrant to ensure this individual is tried and held accountable. Public safety is my top priority and I’ll do everything in my power to keep the streets of New York safe.” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will issue a governor’s warrant for Mangione so he can stand trial in NY That’s according to a spokesperson for the governor who said Gov. Hochul will do it as soon as possible. From wealth and success to murder suspect, the life of Luigi Mangione took a hard turn Luigi Nicholas Mangione, the suspect in the fatal shooting of a healthcare executive in New York City, apparently was living a charmed life: the grandson of a wealthy real estate developer, valedictorian of his elite Baltimore prep school and with degrees from one of the nation’s top private universities. Friends at an exclusive co-living space at the edge of touristy Waikiki in Hawaii where the 26-year-old Mangione once lived widely considered him a “great guy,” and pictures on his social media accounts show a fit, smiling, handsome young man on beaches and at parties. Now, investigators in New York and Pennsylvania are working to piece together why Mangione may have diverged from this path to make the violent and radical decision to gun down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a brazen attack on a Manhattan street. The killing sparked widespread discussions about corporate greed, unfairness in the medical insurance industry and even inspired folk-hero sentiment toward his killer. ▶ Read more about Luigi Mangione Pennsylvania prosecutor will work with NY officials to return suspect Peter Weeks, the Blair County district attorney, says he’ll work with New York officials to try to return suspect Luigi Mangione there to face charges. Weeks said the New York charges are “more serious” than in Blair County. “We believe their charges take precedent,” Weeks said, promising to do what’s needed to accommodate New York’s prosecution first. Weeks spoke to reporters after a brief hearing at which a defense lawyer said Mangione will fight extradition. The defense asked for a hearing on the issue. In the meantime, Mangione will be detained at a state prison in western Pennsylvania. What New York officials will do to bring Mangione back there Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office said Tuesday it will seek a Governor’s warrant to secure Mangione’s extradition to Manhattan. Under state law, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul can issue a warrant of arrest demanding Mangione’s return to the state. Such a warrant must recite the facts necessary to the validity of its issuance and be sealed with the state seal. It would then be presented to law enforcement in Pennsylvania to expedite Mangione’s return to New York. District attorney says Mangione contesting extradition will create ‘extra hoops’ to jump through But Blair County District Attorney Peter Weeks says it won’t be a substantial barrier to returning Mangione to New York. He noted that defendants contest extradition “all the time,” including in simple retail theft cases. In court, Mangione said he understood his rights Dickey, his defense lawyer, questioned whether the second-degree murder charge filed in New York might be eligible for bail under Pennsylvania law, but prosecutors raised concerns about both public safety and Mangione being a potential flight risk, and the judge denied it. Mangione will continue to be housed at a state prison in Huntingdon. Defense lawyer Thomas Dickey told the court Mangione wants a hearing on the extradition issue He has 14 days to challenge the detention. Prosecutors, meanwhile, have a month to seek a governor’s warrant out of New York. Mangione’s demeanor in court Mangione, wearing an orange jumpsuit, mostly stared straight ahead at the hearing, occasionally consulting papers, rocking in his chair, or looking back at the gallery. At one point, he began to speak to respond to the court discussion, but was quieted by his lawyer. Suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO is contesting his extradition back to New York Luigi Mangione, 26, has also been denied bail at a brief court hearing in western Pennsylvania. He has 14 days to challenge the bail decision. An account on X that appears to belong to Mangione was still up as of Tuesday That’s with some intervention from owner Elon Musk. The account, which hasn’t posted since June, was briefly suspended by X. But after a user inquired about it in a post Monday, Musk responded “This happened without my knowledge. Looking into it.” The account was later reinstated. Other social media companies such as Meta have removed his accounts. According to X rules, the platform removes “any accounts maintained by individual perpetrators of terrorist, violent extremist, or mass violent attacks, as well as any accounts glorifying the perpetrator(s), or dedicated to sharing manifestos and/or third party links where related content is hosted.” Mangione is not accused of perpetrating a terrorist or mass attack — he has been charged with murder — and his account doesn’t appear to share any writings about the case. Mangione shouted and struggled with officers as he arrived in court He shouted something that was partly unintelligible, but referred to an “insult to the intelligence of the American people.” He’s there for an arraignment on local charges stemming from his arrest Monday. Mangione arrives at court in Pennsylvania He was dressed in an orange jumpsuit as officers led him from a vehicle into the courthouse. Local defense lawyer Thomas Dickey is expected to represent the 26-year-old at a Tuesday afternoon hearing at the Blair County Courthouse. Dickey declined comment before the hearing. Mangione could have the Pennsylvania charges read aloud to him and may be asked to enter a plea. They include possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police. In New York, he was charged late Monday with murder in the death of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO Brian Thompson. Bulletin says Mangione likely motivated by anger toward ‘parasitic’ health insurance companies Mangione likely was motivated by his anger with what he called “parasitic” health insurance companies and a disdain with corporate greed, said a a law enforcement bulletin obtained by The Associated Press. He wrote that the U.S. has the most expensive healthcare system in the world and that the profits of major corporations continue to rise while “our life expectancy” does not, according to the bulletin, based on a review of the suspect’s hand-written notes and social media postings. He appeared to view the targeted killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO as a symbolic takedown, asserting in his note that he is the “first to face it with such brutal honesty,” the bulletin said. Mangione called “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski a “political revolutionary” and may have found inspiration from the man who carried out a series of bombings while railing against modern society and technology, the document said. Police say they found ‘written admissions about the crime’ in Luigi Mangione’s belongings A felony warrant filed in New York cites Altoona Officer Christy Wasser as saying she found the writings along with a semi-automatic pistol and an apparent silencer. The filing echoes earlier statements from NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny who said Mangione had a three-page, handwritten document that shows “some ill will toward corporate America.” Mangione is now charged in Pennsylvania with being a fugitive of justice. McDonald’s customer: ‘My one friend thought he looked like the shooter’ A customer at the McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where Mangione was arrested said one of his friends had commented beforehand that the man looked like the suspect wanted for the shooting in New York City. “It started out almost a little bit like a joke, my one friend thought he looked like the shooter,” said the customer, who declined to give his full name, on Tuesday. “It wasn’t really a joke, but we laughed about it,” he added. Manhattan prosecutors have obtained a warrant for Mangione’s arrest The warrant on murder and other charges is a step that could help expedite his extradition from Pennsylvania. In court papers made public Tuesday, a New York City police detective reiterated key findings in the investigation he said tied Mangione to the killing, including surveillance footage and a fake ID he used to check into a Manhattan hostel on Nov. 24. Police officers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, found that ID when they arrested Mangione on Monday. Mangione doesn’t yet have a lawyer who can speak on his behalf, court officials said. Pennsylvania authorities release photos of Luigi Mangione at McDonald’s and in cell Images of Mangione released Tuesday by Pennsylvania State Police showed him pulling down his mask in the corner of the McDonald’s while holding what appeared to be hash browns and wearing a winter jacket and ski cap. In another photo from a holding cell, he stood unsmiling with rumpled hair. The suspect’s cousin, a Maryland lawmaker, is postponing a fundraiser Mangione’s cousin, Maryland lawmaker Nino Mangione, announced Tuesday morning that he’s postponing a fundraiser planned later this week at the Hayfields Country Club north of Baltimore, which was purchased by the Mangione family in 1986. “Because of the nature of this terrible situation involving my Cousin I do not believe it is appropriate to hold my fundraising event scheduled for this Thursday at Hayfields,” Nino Mangione said in a social media post. “I want to thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support. My family and I are heartbroken and ask that you remember the family of Mr. Thompson in your prayers. Thank you.” The search for the suspect involved dogs, drones and scuba divers Officers used New York City’s muscular surveillance system . Investigators analyzed DNA samples, fingerprints and internet addresses. Police went door to door looking for witnesses. When an arrest came five days later , those sprawling investigative efforts shared credit with an alert civilian’s instincts. A customer at a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania noticed another patron who resembled the man in the oblique security-camera photos New York police had publicized. Suspect is expected to be eventually be extradited to New York He remains jailed in Pennsylvania, where he was initially charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police. By late Monday evening, prosecutors in Manhattan had added a charge of murder, according to an online court docket. It’s unclear whether Luigi Nicholas Mangione has an attorney who can comment on the allegations. Asked at Monday’s arraignment whether he needed a public defender, Mangione asked whether he could “answer that at a future date.” The Associated Press“All of us, we really don’t realize where things land in our body over a lifetime of different experiences and where we hold it to protect ourselves,” Jolie said in a recent interview. “We hold it in our stomachs. We hold it in our chest. We breathe from a different place when we’re nervous or we’re sad. “The first few weeks were the hardest because my body had to open and I had to breathe again,” she adds. “And that was a discovery of how much I wasn’t.” In Pablo Larraín’s “Maria,” which Netflix released in theaters Wednesday before it begins streaming on Dec. 11, Jolie gives, if not the performance of her career, then certainly of her last decade. Beginning with 2010’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” Jolie has spent recent years directing films while prioritizing raising her six children. “So my choices for quite a few years were whatever was smart financially and short. I worked very little the last eight years,” says Jolie. “And I was kind of drained. I couldn’t for a while.” But her youngest kids are now 16. And for the first time in years, Jolie is back in the spotlight, in full movie-star mode. Her commanding performance in “Maria” seems assured of bringing Jolie her third Oscar nomination. (She won supporting actress in 2000 for “Girl, Interrupted.”) For an actress whose filmography might lack a signature movie, “Maria” may be Jolie's defining role. Jolie's oldest children, Maddox and Pax, worked on the set of the film. There, they saw a version of their mother they hadn't seen before. “They had certainly seen me sad in my life. But I don’t cry in front of my children like that,” Jolie says of the emotion Callas dredged up in her. “That was a moment in realizing they were going to be with me, side by side, in this process of really understanding the depth of some of the pain I carry.” Jolie, who met a reporter earlier this fall at the Carlyle Hotel, didn't speak in any detail of that pain. But it was hard not to sense some it had to do with her lengthy and ongoing divorce from Brad Pitt, with whom she had six children. Just prior to meeting, a judge allowed Pitt’s remaining claim against Jolie, over the French winery Château Miraval, to proceed. On Monday, a judge ruled that Pitt must disclose documents Jolie’s legal team have sought that they allege include “communications concerning abuse.” Pitt has denied ever being abusive. The result of the U.S. presidential election was also just days old, though Jolie — special envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency from 2012 to 2022 – wasn’t inclined to talk politics. Asked about Donald Trump’s win , she responded, “Global storytelling is essential,” before adding: “That’s what I’m focusing on. Listening. Listening to the voices of people in my country and around the world.” Balancing such things — reports concerning her private life, questions that accompany someone of her fame — is a big reason why Jolie is so suited to the part of Callas. The film takes place during the American-born soprano’s final days. (She died of a heart attack at 53 in 1977.) Spending much of her time in her grand Paris apartment, Callas hasn’t sung publicly in years; she’s lost her voice. Imprisoned by the myth she’s created, Callas is redefining herself and her voice. An instructor tells her he wants to hear “Callas, not Maria." The movie, of course, is more concerned with Maria. It’s Larrain’s third portrait of 20th century female icon, following “Jackie” (with Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy) and “Spencer” (with Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana). As Callas, Jolie is wonderfully regal — a self-possessed diva who deliciously, in lines penned by screenwriter Steven Knight, spouts lines like: “I took liberties all my life and the world took liberties with me.” Asked if she identified with that line, Jolie answered, “Yeah, yeah.” Then she took a long pause. “I’m sure people will read a lot into this and there’s probably a lot I could say but don’t want to feed into,” Jolie eventually continues. “I know she was a public person because she loved her work. And I’m a public person because I love my work, not because I like being public. I think some people are more comfortable with a public life, and I’ve never been fully comfortable with it.” When Larraín first approached Jolie about the role, he screened “Spencer” for her. That film, like “Jackie” and “Maria,” eschews a biopic approach to instead intimately focus on a specific moment of crisis. Larraín was convinced Jolie was meant for the role. “I felt she could have that magnetism,” Larraín says. “The enigmatic diva that’s come to a point in her life where she has to take control of her life again. But the weight of her experience, of her music, of her singing, everything, is on her back. And she carries that. It’s someone who’s already loaded with a life that’s been intense.” “There’s a loneliness that we both share,” Jolie says. “That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think people can be alone and lonely sometimes, and that can be part of who they are.” Larraín, the Chilean filmmaker, grew up in Santiago going to the opera, and he has long yearned to bring its full power and majesty to a movie. In Callas, he heard something that transfixed him. “I hear something near perfection, but at the same time, it’s something that’s about to be destroyed,” Larraín says. “So it’s as fragile and as strong as possible. It lives in both extremes. That’s why it’s so moving. I hear a voice that’s about to be broken, but it doesn’t.” In Callas’ less perfect moments singing in the film, Larraín fuses archival recordings of Callas with Jolie’s own voice. Some mix of the two runs throughout “Maria.” “Early in the process,” Jolie says, “I discovered that you can’t fake-sing opera.” Jolie has said she never sang before, not even karaoke. But the experience has left her with a newfound appreciation of opera and its healing properties. “I wonder if it’s something you lean into as you get older,” Jolie says. “Maybe your depth of pain is bigger, your depth of loss is bigger, and that sound in opera meets that, the enormity of it.” If Larraín’s approach to “Maria” is predicated on an unknowingness, he's inclined to say something similar about his star. “Because of media and social media, some people might think that they know a lot about Angelina,” he says. “Maria, I read nine biographies of her. I saw everything. I read every interview. I made this movie. But I don’t think I would be capable of telling you who she was us. So if there’s an element in common, it’s that. They carry an enormous amount of mystery. Even if you think that you know them, you don’t.” Whether “Maria” means more acting in the future for Jolie, she's not sure. “There's not a clear map,” she says. Besides, Jolie isn't quite ready to shake Callas. “When you play a real person, you feel at some point that they become your friend,” says Jolie. “Right now, it’s still a little personal. It’s funny, I’ll be at a premiere or I’ll walk into a room and someone will start blaring her music for fun, but I have this crazy internal sense memory of dropping to my knees and crying.”None

Simon Harris says sorry to Cork carer for ‘not giving her the time she deserved’Stock market today: Wall Street drifts lower as it waits for inflation dataRick Palacio, the former chair of the Colorado Democratic Party, violated the state’s ethics law when he became a consultant for Gov. Jared Polis in late 2020 because he had too recently served as the governor’s chief of staff, the state’s Independent Ethics Commission ruled. The commission did not levy any financial penalties against Palacio, who led Colorado Democrats from 2011 to 2017. That is because commissioners determined he had not “violated the public trust,” according to a report issued by the commission last week. A complaint was filed against Palacio in 2021 by Defend Colorado, a conservative group, alleging he’d violated ethics rules the year before when he was hired as a consultant for Polis’ office immediately after serving as the governor’s interim chief of staff. Palacio served as interim chief in late 2020, while the governor’s permanent chief of staff was on maternity leave. After then-chief Lisa Kaufmann returned to work in November 2020, Palacio remained on staff for the rest of the month. He was then given a contract as a consultant beginning Dec. 1, 2020, to continue working on pandemic-related issues. Colorado’s ethics law requires recently separated state employees to wait six months before they can be contracted by a state agency to work on anything they had previously been directly involved with, as Palacio was with pandemic efforts. Still, the commission found that Palacio did not need to face any penalties because he had not violated the public trust. Commissioners found that he did not violate a state law barring state employees from using official acts to enrich themselves. According to the report, Defend Colorado agreed that “Mr. Palacio’s consulting contract did not create a conflict of interest or a potential for unfair advantage in Mr. Palacio’s favor.” In an emailed statement Friday, Palacio said the state was “confronted with a once-in-a-century pandemic” during his work with Polis’ office. When “my state needed help, I was honored to step up and serve,” he wrote. “In moments of crisis, I have always believed it is our duty to contribute however we can, and I would hope that anyone else would do the same if called upon by their governor or president.” In a statement, Polis spokesman Eric Maruyama said the governor’s office was “deeply grateful for (Palacio’s) exceptional contributions” and said the office was pleased that the ethics commission found that “Palacio’s actions never compromised the public trust or caused harm to the state.”

DENVER (AP) — Travis Hunter made a pair of proclamations Thursday: He’s for sure entering the NFL draft after this season, but not until he sees Colorado all the way through the College Football Playoff — if the Buffaloes make it there. The first was already a given for the draft-eligible junior who plays both receiver and cornerback. The second is a risk-reward play for a projected high first-round pick who averages around 120 snaps a game. In years past, it took two extra postseason wins to capture a national title. Now, it could take up to four additional contests. That’s more of a chance to shine, but also more chance for an injury. “I don’t think nobody will opt out because you’re showing NFL teams that you’re more focused on something else, other than the team goal,” Hunter said of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff. “So I don’t think players are going to opt out of the playoffs.” Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders chatted Thursday in a set of Zoom calls about turning around the program at Colorado (from 4-8 last season to bowl eligibility), chasing a Big 12 title, turning pro — Hunter acknowledged he will “for sure” — and, of course, the Heisman race, where Hunter is currently the odds-on favorite in an award each wants to see the other win. “He’s deserving of it, and if it’s between me and him, I want him to get it,” said Sanders, whose 16th-ranked Buffaloes (8-2, 6-1 Big 12, No. 16 CFP ) travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face Kansas (4-6, 3-4) this weekend. “He does a lot of amazing things that have never been done before.” Countered Hunter: “I know he wants me to win it, but I also want him to win as bad as I want to win it.” Hunter is a generational talent shining on both sides of the ball. As a receiver, he has 74 catches for 911 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, he has picked off three passes, even though teams are reluctant to throw his direction. Like he did in high school and now in college, he believes he can do both on the next level. But he understands the trepidation of the NFL team that picks him. “They don’t want their top pick to go down too early," Hunter said. “I like when people tell me I can’t do it, because they just motivate me to continue to do what I want to do.” Sanders is turning in a stellar season as well with 27 touchdown passes, one away from tying Sefo Liufau for the most in a single season in program history. He's projected to be one of the first QBs off the draft board. The future certainly looks bright at Colorado thanks to the legacies Sanders and Hunter under coach Deion Sanders. But that's a point to ponder later. “I can’t think too much forward past Saturday,” Shedeur Sanders cracked. “The main thing is winning the Big 12 championship. That’s the main thing we’re focused on." Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Thousands of Syrians celebrate in central Damascus during first Friday prayers since Assad's fallSuniva and Imperial Star Solar Announce Strategic Sourcing Contract to Produce U.S. Domestic Content-Eligible Crystalline Silicon PV ModulesPep Guardiola admits the buck stops with him as Manchester City bid to arrest their dramatic slump in form. The champions crashed to a fifth straight defeat in all competitions – something not experienced by the club in more than 18 years – as they were thrashed 4-0 by Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The loss, which was also a third in succession in the Premier League and shattered a 52-game unbeaten home run, damaged the club’s hopes of winning an unprecedented fifth title in a row. It is the worst run of Guardiola’s glittering managerial career and the City boss, who extended his contract until 2027 last week, is determined to turn the situation around. The Catalan said: “When we start to lose I say to the people I have to find a way, I have to. It’s my duty, my responsibility, to find a way to be more consistent, that our game will be better and win games. “This is what we have to do.” City have been hampered by injuries to key players in recent weeks, particularly by the absence of Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder Rodri, who has been sidelined for the remainder of the season. Problems have emerged at both ends of the field with a lack of clean sheets – just five in 19 outings this term – and a shortage of goals being scored on occasions, like Saturday, when the prolific Erling Haaland has an off-day. Guardiola said: “We don’t expect to lose important players but it’s happened and you have to find a way. We have to find other abilities. “I don’t think we didn’t create enough chances. We created a lot of chances, clear ones at 0-0, 0-1, 0-2. “Of course we want a lot of players to score but it’s happened now. “I know at the Etihad when we are there and we score goals our momentum is there, but now we are not solid enough. That is the truth. “In both sides normally we are solid but we concede the goals. Now in both sides we are not good enough. “In these situations, what do you have do to? Keep going my friends, keep going. “We have done it in the past – not in terms of results being as bad as now – but we have done it and we face the situation and move forward.”

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials responded to a call around 7 p.m. from Xevichez Sushi Bar at 24250 Town Center Drive, Deputy Villalobos of the SCV Sheriff’s Station said Friday. Station officials confirmed the couple consumed approximately $120 in food at the mall restaurant before taking off without paying. The incident also triggered several reports on social media apps that track law enforcement activity, which reported the 911 call. However, there might have been a holiday change of heart. Villalobos said the victim — a representative for the restaurant who spoke to deputies — declined to press charges over the incident, during the dinner rush.918kiss slot game online

NoneNEW YORK — If you're planning on ringing in the new year quietly at home, you're not alone. A majority of U.S adults intend to celebrate New Year’s Eve at home, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research . “As I’ve gotten older over the last few years, it’s like if I don’t make it to midnight, it’s not a big deal, you know?” says Carla Woods, 70, from Vinton, Iowa. Nearly 2 in 10 will be celebrating at a friend or family member’s home, and just 5% plan to go out to celebrate at a bar, restaurant or organized event, the poll found. But many U.S. adults will celebrate the new year in a different way — by making a resolution. More than half say they'll make at least one resolution for 2025. There's some optimism about the year ahead, although more than half aren't expecting a positive change. About 4 in 10 say 2025 will be a better year for them personally. About one-third don’t expect much of a difference between 2024 and 2025, and about one-quarter think 2025 will be a worse year than 2024. Kourtney Kershaw, a 32-year-old bartender in Chicago, often fields questions from customers and friends about upcoming events for New Year's Eve. She said this year is trending toward low-key. “A majority of who I’ve spoken to in my age range, they want to go out, but they don’t know what they’re going to do because they haven’t found anything or things are just really expensive,” she said. “Party packages or an entry fee are like a turnoff, especially with the climate of the world and how much things cost.” As expected, younger people are more interested in ringing in the new year at a bar or organized event — about 1 in 10 U.S. adults under 30 say they plan to do that. But about 3 in 10 older adults — 60 and above — say they won’t celebrate the beginning of 2025 at all. Anthony Tremblay, 35, from Pittsburgh, doesn't usually go out to toast the arrival of the new year, but this year he's got something special cooked up: He and his wife will be traveling through Ireland. “I don’t do anything too crazy for New Year’s, usually. So this is definitely a change,” he said. “I wanted to do something unique this year, so I did.” Woods will be working New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. She answers calls on The Iowa Warmline, a confidential, noncrisis listening line for people struggling with mental health or substance use issues. “Holidays are really hard for people, so I don’t mind working,” she said. “I’m passionate about it because I have mental health issues in the family and so being able to help people is rewarding to me.” Every New Year's also triggers the eternal debate about resolutions. A majority of U.S. adults say they intend to make a New Year’s resolution of some type, but millennials and Gen Z are especially likely to be on board — about two-thirds expect to do so, compared to about half of older adults. Women are also more likely than men to say they will set a goal for 2025. Tremblay hopes to lose some weight and focus more on self-care — more sleep, meditation and breathing exercises. “It’s probably a good year to focus on mental health,” he said. Many others agree. About 3 in 10 adults choose resolutions involving exercise or eating healthier. About one-quarter said they'll make a resolution involving losing weight and a similar number said they'll resolve to make changes about priorities of money or mental health. Woods' resolutions are to stay social and active. As a mental health counselor, she knows those are key to a happy 2025 and beyond: “Probably one of my biggest resolutions is trying to make sure I stay social, try to get out at least once a week — get out and either have coffee or do something with a friend. That’s not only for the physical but also for the mental health part.” Kershaw, the bartender, says weight loss and better health are the top resolutions she hears people make. “Mental health is the new one, but I think it’s high up there as well as with regular health,” she said. She prefers more goal-oriented resolutions and, this time, it's to do more traveling and see more of the world: “I don’t know if that’s really a resolution, but that’s a goal that I’m setting.” And how will she welcome the arrival of 2025? Usually, she takes the night off and stays home watching movies with plenty of snacks, but this year Kershaw has a different plan, maybe one of the most Chicago things you can do. This die-hard sports fan will be at Wrigley Field on Tuesday watching the Chicago Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues. “Hockey’s my favorite sport. So I will be watching hockey and bringing in the new year,” she said. ___ The AP-NORC poll of 1,251 adults was conducted Dec. 5-9, 2024, using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for adults overall is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. ___ Sanders reported from Washington.Brighton were booed off after their winless run was stretched to six Premier League games by a frustrating goalless draw against away-day strugglers Brentford. Albion dominated for large periods on a foggy evening at the Amex Stadium and hit the woodwork inside four minutes through Julio Enciso. Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken also made a string of important saves before being forced off injured in the 36th minute, albeit his replacement Hakon Valdimarsson was rarely tested on his Premier League debut. Brentford, who remain without a top-flight away win this term, had an early Yoane Wissa finish ruled out for offside following VAR intervention but barely threatened, despite an improved second-half showing. The Seagulls remain 10th ahead of Monday’s trip to Aston Villa, with Thomas Frank’s visitors a position and two points below moving towards their New Year’s Day showdown with Arsenal. Brighton have plummeted from second place to mid-table amid a poor run of form which has increased scrutiny on head coach Fabian Hurzeler. Seagulls chief executive Paul Barber called for perspective from fans in his programme notes after revealing he revealed emails “full of doom and gloom” following the recent 3-1 home defeat to rivals Crystal Palace. Enciso, one of two players recalled by Hurzeler following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at West Ham, almost gave Albion a dream start. A poor pass from Bees goalkeeper Flekken was intercepted by Carlos Baleba and, following a neat layoff from Joao Pedro, Paraguay forward Enciso curled against the right post. Brentford arrived in Sussex with the worst away record in the division, having previously taken a solitary point from 24 available this term. Flekken saved well from Baleba and then collected a tame header from the unmarked Enciso before the away side thought they had snatched a 13th-minute lead. After being slipped in by Mads Roerslev at the end of a swift counter-attack, Wissa thumped high into the net beyond Seagulls keeper Bart Verbruggen only to be ruled marginally offside. Flekken made further saves from Brajan Gruda and Matt O’Riley before hurting himself keeping out a deflected Kaoru Mitoma cross and being replaced by 23-year-old Iceland international Valdimarsson. Brentford remained on the back foot and, aside from Wissa’s disallowed effort, offered little going forward in a one-sided opening period which somehow ended level. Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke produced a crucial block to deny Wissa as the west London club began the second half brightly before Christian Norgaard’s ambitious effort deflected wide amid groans from increasingly restless home fans. Hurzeler responded with a triple change, introducing Yasin Ayari, Simon Adingra and Yankuba Minteh in place of O’Riley, Gruda and Mitoma. Albion forward Pedro then escaped punishment in the 76th minute after swinging an arm at Bees substitute Yehor Yarmoliuk without making contact before defender Ben Mee became the second visiting player to depart injured. The introduction of Solly March in the 88th minute for his first appearance since suffering a serious knee injury in October last year briefly lifted the mood on the terraces. But, following a frantic five minutes of added time, some Seagulls supporters vented their displeasure at full-time as their club’s wait for victory goes on. Trudeau, Carney push back over Trump’s ongoing 51st state commentsNEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams appears open to switching parties to become a Republican, as he declined to rule out a future change in political allegiances during a pair of interviews Friday that came as he has increasing warmed to President-elect Donald Trump. The comments from Adams, the top Democrat in one of the country's most liberal cities, riled critics who have grown concerned over the mayor's increasing willingness to throw his support behind Trump and his hardline immigration policies. Adams, who faces federal corruption charges , was a registered Republican in the 1990s and early 2000s but has spent his political career as a Democrat. In a Friday morning interview with the local cable news station NY1, Adams was asked if he would consider a return to the GOP. The Democrat appeared to leave open the possibility of a switch. “The party that’s the most important for me is the American party,” he said. “I’m a part of the American party. I love this country. This is the home of the free, the land of the brave.” In another interview about a half-hour later on PIX11, Adams said he would run for reelection as a Democrat but still appeared to leave some wiggle room for his future. “So no matter what party I’m on or vote on, I’m going to push for the American values," he said. "And I think America has told us, stop the squabbling, leaders, and start leading us out of the crisis that we’re facing.” Adams won office on a centrist platform and has spent significant time as mayor quarreling with the progressive wing of his party. But his rhetoric has taken a noticeable rightward turn in the weeks since Trump's election victory, particularly on immigration, with Adams boosting the president-elect's platform and appearing enthusiastic about the incoming administration. Rather than restricting cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as he once promised, Adams recently expressed a willingness to roll back the city’s so-called sanctuary policies, and he plans to meet with Trump’s top border official over concerns about what the mayor said was the “rising illegal alien crime rate in New York City.” He has also praised those in Trump’s orbit, including Elon Musk, who has claimed falsely that Democrats are illegally “importing” migrants to garner votes. “This is a racehorse that wanted to run its right pace and we’ve been holding back that racehorse out of fear of being canceled,” Adams said of the country Tuesday. “And now you have a bunch of people who are not afraid of being canceled.” The shift comes as Adams is trying to fight off an indictment on federal corruption charges while governing the city and gearing up to run for a second term. Adams has pleaded not guilty in his criminal case, in which he has been accused of accepting free or discounted overseas trips and illegal campaign contributions from people looking to gain his influence, including people connected to Turkey or the Turkish government. Adams’ critics have seized on his recent comments about the Trump administration as a move toward self-preservation, accusing the mayor of cozying up to the next president in an effort to secure a pardon in his corruption case. “Eric Adams continues to sound more like he is auditioning for a job in right-wing media than running for reelection in a Democratic primary,” said Zohran Mamdani, a state assembly member who is challenging against Adams in the mayoral primary. “Eric Adams is in City Hall because Democratic voters sent him there. To serve his own narrow self-interests, he is clearly prepared to betray them.” Zellnor Myrie, a state senator who is also challenging Adams in the primary, said “at a time when the Republican Party has never been more out of line with New York values, we need a mayor who isn’t scared to call himself a Democrat.” “Instead of playing footsie with the next president, we need a mayor with the courage to stand up for our city,” Myrie wrote on X. Adams on Friday did distance himself from the Trump administration's potential plans to carry out mass deportations, saying, “You know, I’m not for mass deportation, but I’m not for mass saturation.” Still, the mayor's recent remarks are a major departure from his stance before he took office. In June of 2021, a few weeks before winning the Democratic mayoral primary, Adams spoke to a room full of immigrant New Yorkers about the challenges facing city residents who are in the country illegally. “Too many of our neighbors live in the shadows,” he said at the time, “scarred by the abusive rhetoric and tactics of the Trump era and fearing a denial of their rights.” ___ Izaguirre reported from Albany. Anthony Izaguirre And Jake Offenhartz, The Associated PressST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Maverick McNealy steadied himself after a rugged start Saturday with a 4-under 66 and caught up with Vince Whaley in a wild third round at the RSM Classic in which a half-dozen players had at least a share of the lead. McNealy looked as though he might have the lead when he hit wedge on the final hole that rolled just by the cup and settled 8 feet away. He missed the putt, still in great position to go after his first PGA Tour victory. Whaley, also winless on tour, birdied the 18th for a 63 and will be playing in the final group for the first time on the PGA Tour. McNealy, who joined him at 14-under 198, also shared the 54-hole lead in 2021 at the season opener in Napa, California. Whaley was playing with a sense of freedom not everyone has at the final PGA Tour event this year. He was playing on a medical extension and fulfilled the necessary points in July. The next step was finishing in the top 125 in the FedEx Cup. He secured that last week with a tie for fifth in the Bermuda Championship. Everything else feels like a bonus, and there could be no greater perk than a victory to get into the Masters and PGA Championship, along with a two-year exemption. “I've really got nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I'm just excited for the opportunity,” Whaley said. Opportunity abounds going into the final round. Daniel Berger shot a 63 and played his way into the final group, just two shots behind. He was tied with former Sea Island winner Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., (65), Michael Thorbjornsen (67) and Patrick Fishburn (69). Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., (71) dropped 23 spots to tie for 47th at 3 under. Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C., (70) was 1 under. Berger and Thorbjornsen were among those who arrived at Sea Island outside the top 125, the number required to keep full status on tour on next year. Thorbjornsen already has that locked up as the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour University ranking. Berger needed a big week and he's delivering, even though he says he doesn't feel stress. Berger missed 19 months with a back injury that he feared might end his career. Now he's healthy enough to have played 27 times this year. “Regardless when I play well, I'm going to be fine,” said Berger, who played in the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits. "When you miss that much amount of time it takes a little bit of a while to get back. It's just a matter of being patient and eventually good things come around.” Henrik Norlander and Hayden Springer, also on the wrong side of No. 125, each shot 63 and were among those tied for 12th, a position that currently would let them move into the top 125. Joel Dahmen, who had to make a 5-foot par putt on Friday to make the cut, shot 70 and was tied for 61st. He is at No. 124 and his future depends on a big round Sunday, along with how Thorbjornsen, Berger, Norlander and Springer fare. Closer to the top, eight players were separated by three shots. That includes Luke Clanton, the Florida State sophomore and No. 1 amateur in the world who already has three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour and was going after another one. ___ AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf The Associated Press

The win also secured the fourth postseason appearance in Jim Harbaugh’s five seasons as an NFL coach, adding to the three he made during his stint with the San Francisco 49ers. Herbert finished 26 of 38 for 281 yards to become the third player in NFL history with at least 3,000 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes in each of his first five seasons. The Patriots have lost six straight games, their second such losing streak of the season. They are now 2-14 the last two seasons at home. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal was pending a successful physical. The 30-year-old Burnes was perhaps the top free agent pitcher on the market after going 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA for Baltimore last season. The Orioles acquired the right-hander in a February trade after he spent his first six major league seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Yes, it was that time again. Time for the great COP cop-out extravaganza as a bunch of talking heads get together for an elaborate greenie shindig that usually achieves absolutely nothing. If you or I were to put a foot wrong by saying something clumsy about ‘climate change’ or ‘global warming’ - we'd soon be branded “deniers” or wicked right-wing enviro-bigots. But, any layperson’s suspicions or eco-misdemeanors pale into insignificance compared with the wasteful, self-indulgent, virtue-signaling non-event that has come to epitomise COP gatherings. I will never forget the Cop26 meeting which took place in Glasgow in 2021. Freshly elected US president Joe Biden crossed the Atlantic to attend the G20 summit in Italy, closely followed by the Cop26 swaray in Glasgow. To attend these gatherings, the US presidential circus needed a fleet of no fewer than five enormous military cargo planes as well as the president’s own “oval office on wings” (Air Force One - Boeing 747). The whole job lot is said to have produced in excess of 2.2 million pounds of planet-shriveling carbon on a single trek across the pond. One aircraft was assigned specifically to carry special stairs for the president to board and disembark the mighty Air Force One because there was nothing available to marry up to such a gigantic aircraft at Edinburgh Airport. As a “security measure” the presidential fleet consisted of decoys as well as “in-service” C-17 Globemasters (huge military transportation aircraft) which ferried an 85 strong presidential motorcade as well as a number of helicopters, including Marine One. Amidst the road vehicles was the heavily armoured presidential Cadillac limousine known as 'The Beast'. Not just one, but two, as a spare ‘Beast’ also made the trip just in case there was a fault with the first. All that, just to bring an aging American president to the table. What did that achieve? Well, precisely nothing. And even if it did, Trump is about to go wild on fossil fuels. “Drill baby - drill” says America’s latterday JR Ewing. Back at the Ranch, we've all heard Keir Starmer’s endless rhetoric about Britain’s commitment to net-zero. Yet his party sent a 470 strong delegation to this year's Cop29 meeting in Azerbaijan. A 5000 mile round trip to attend another lavish, taxpayer-funded jolly. Sadly, it transpired to be little more than a fashionably left-wing virtue signaling fest, coming from a government representing a country that produces less than 1% of global greenhouse emissions. If every single Brit switched off every electrical appliance, extinguished every central heating boiler and binned all our cars - our sacrifice would barely be noticeable in the grand scheme of things. But, Labour have achieved one thing. They have left many people questioning the true priorities of a government that claims to be focused on “saving the planet” whilst they themselves leave a massive carbon footprint just to show us how “green” they actually aren't! The UK government delegation at Cop29 was far larger than that of any other European country. Official figures reveal that the UK sent a staggering 354 government officials and ministers to the summit along with an additional 116 representatives from Crown dependencies, overseas territories as well as private sector interests. This was all at the taxpayer’s expense, naturally. Among the attendees were Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Ed Miliband who leads Labour’s climate crusade. While Labour preaches austerity and levies ever higher taxes on ordinary families, its own ministers stay in luxury hotels where suites cost up to £800 a night. All this extravagance comes amid reports that COP meetings are increasingly regarded as no more than glorified talking shops. So much so that many of the most influential world leaders opted to skip the latest Cop29 event altogether. Let's be candid. Labour is a party that constantly lectures the public on the urgency of reducing emissions. The party has banned new UK oil and gas licenses, stopped steel manufacturing and is keen to roll out ULEZ expansions. Meanwhile, the environmental impact of Labour’s own Cop29 delegation is crazy. It's estimated that the British contingent racked up a staggering 2.3 million air miles, contributing at least 338 tons of CO2. Hardly the perfect portrayal of eco-friendliness? The general hypocrisy was blatant because, for starters, a whole squadron of private jets as well as a host of large commercial jets headed for Baku at the start of Cop29. This makes the whole COP thing a complete waste of time, a towering pile of nonsense for all to see. When it comes to ordinary citizens, Labour shows no mercy. Starmer’s pledge to slash emissions by 81% by 2035 sounds impressive, until we examine the details. What they reveal are much higher costs for homeowners facing forced upgrades to existing gas boilers. Even our diets are being scrutinised as we're told to cut back on meat consumption. UK taxpayers will also be funding Labour’s net zero projects abroad under Ed Miliband’s latest proposals. It wasn’t just the sheer scale of the British delegation that raised eyebrows at Cop29. UK representatives, including Keir Starmer’s own media team stayed in luxury suites at the Qafqaz Baku City Hotel where even standard rooms start at £400 a night. Some even splurged on caviar, costing up to £63 an ounce as our contingent of champagne socialists rubbed shoulders with Azerbaijan’s elites. A total of 66,778 delegates descended upon Baku this year, yet former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently declared that the whole COP process is “no longer fit for purpose.” When you think about it, was it ever wise to leave environmental issues in the hands of politicians? Let's be honest, when it comes to COP, how many different agendas could there possibly be in one place? Think about it. Some politicians believe they can use environmental issues to win votes by banging the fashionable climate drum. Others arrive at these summits from oil and gas rich countries, keen to sell as much of the stuff as possible. Not surprising, because many regions rely almost solely on their oil wealth to keep their dynasties living in luxurious palaces and enjoying multi-billionaire lifestyles. In all honesty, do politicians REALLY believe they can alter the climate simply because they decree that this world of ours ought somehow adhere to disingenuous policies dreamt up in places such as dusty Westminster backrooms? All I can say to that is - get real. Let's not mince words, our political leaders are taking the public for fools. At a time when families are struggling, the UK government's decision to send a bloated 470 strong delegation to a lavishly pointless climate summit reeks somewhat of arrogance. People deserve better than governments who constantly preach austerity and force tax hikes whilst they themselves put in the ritz at our expense. As the economy continues to wobble, it's ordinary families who bear the brunt of rising prices. It’s clear that some governments’ priorities lie not with the people they claim to represent, but with burnishing their own image on the global stage. There was, after all, a time when New York coach Al Arbour could send two future Hockey Hall of Famers — center Bryan Trottier and right winger Mike Bossy — over the boards against them. Which he did with regularity. And while Nelson and Lee aren’t likely to make it into the Hockey Hall of Fame without forking over the price of a ticket, they do some of their best and most productive work against the Penguins, who will take on the Islanders Saturday at 7:38 p.m. at UBS Arena on Long Island. Nelson, a center, enters that meeting with 21 goals and 39 points in 44 career games against the Penguins, both personal bests. Lee, a left winger, has tied his individual highs with 17 goals and 26 points in 39 games against them. Penguins players say that during pregame meetings, the coaching staff tends to focus primarily on tendencies in the other club’s play, instead of individuals, although players with exceptional abilities might be discussed, too. While Nelson and Lee don’t necessarily meet that criterion, their consistent success against the Penguins might mean they merit a mention or two. If Mike Sullivan and his assistants have devised a strategy to do damage-control against that pair this weekend — the Penguins and Islanders will meet again Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena — they aren’t sharing it. Unless — or until — the coaches brief their personnel on whatever plans they have to defend Nelson and Lee, Pittsburgh Penguins players say the key to minimizing their impact is the standard limit-their-time-and-space approach. “We’re always trying to be physical, limit their time and space,” winger Anthony Beauvillier, an Islanders alum, said after practice Friday at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Nice idea, but hardly a new or novel one, or something the Penguins haven’t tried to do in the past. With modest success, at best, much of the time. Beauvillier got a first-hand look at Lee and Nelson, not only as a teammate but occasionally on the same line. “Fun guys to play with,” he said. “Anders is a force, owns the net-front and Brock is an elite shooter who sees the ice really well.” Nelson is a solid two-way center who can set up goals as well as score them, while Lee, who is 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, is one of the NHL’s best men around the crease. When Lee claims a spot there, dislodging him can be like trying to relocate a concrete bridge piling. “He’s a big guy who’s tough to move around,” Penguins defenseman Kris Letang said. “Anything that goes around your net, he’s going to get a hand on.” He noted that it is not unusual for individuals to fare especially well — or poorly — against a particular opponent. Sidney Crosby, for example, has a personal-best 135 points in 87 career games against the Islanders. “There are some guys that play against certain teams and always tend to have success,” he said. Considering that Nelson — who Letang described as “a really smart player” with “tons of skill” — doesn’t have a goal in his past 12 games, he probably was quite pleased to see a home-and-home with the Penguins on the schedule. Nelson hasn’t scored in five, so he likely won’t mind facing them, either. And while it’s entirely possible the Penguins will find a way to neutralize Nelson and/or Lee, they found explaining why those two have fared to see to be every bit as challenging as trying to impede them is. “If I had the answer, we’d know how to stop them,” forward Drew O’Connor said. Nonetheless, the Penguins shouldn’t be upset about taking on the Islanders now. New York is 2-4 in its past six games, including a 7-1 humiliation by bottom-feeding Buffalo on home ice Monday. The Islanders are tied with their arch-rivals, the New York Rangers, for last place in the Metropolitan Division, four points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sweep the weekend, and the Penguins could expand their comfort zone over the Islanders quite a bit. Perhaps enough to make the next time they have to share a slab of ice with Nelson and Lee a bit less stressful. While the playoff races are starting to take over the talk of the league, the injury reports are also piling up as all 32 teams enter the home stretch. Let's take a look at how each NFL team is faring from a health standpoint. Below is a rundown of every team's initial injury report entering this week's games. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore hasn't practiced since joining the Commanders and once again didn't practice Friday . He will be out against the Cowboys. The Chiefs will once again be without running back Isiah Pacheco, despite reports that he was expected to be back. All NFL sports betting odds courtesy of BetMGM . Kansas City Chiefs (-11) at Carolina Panthers Chiefs: RB Isiah Pacheco (ankle), DE Charles Omenihu (knee) OUT Panthers: OLB Jadeveon Clowney (knee), DE LaBryan Ray (hand), WR Adam Thielen (hamstring), LB DJ Johnson (concussion), RB Jonathon Brooks (knee), LB D.J. Wonnum (quadriceps), K Eddie Pineiro (left knee), WR Jalen Coker (quadriceps) QUESTIONABLE; LB Amare Barno (knee) DOUBTFUL; RB Miles Sanders (ankle) OUT The Panthers had a lengthy injury report this week. Kicker Eddy Pineiro , who is the league's most accurate kicker of all-time, is questionable after not practicing Friday. Running back Miles Sanders is the only player out ahead of Sunday, as he didn't practice all week, while wide receiver Adam Thielen was limited all week and is questionable. The Chiefs were expected to get running back Isiah Pacheco (ankle) back this week, but the team announced he is out. With a short week ahead of them -- they play the Raiders on Black Friday -- the Chiefs' coaches and trainers felt it was best for Pacheco to remain sidelined, despite him being healthy enough to play. Charles Omenihu (IR) is also out. Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) at Chicago Bears Vikings: OLB Gabriel Murphy (knee), TE Nick Muse (hand) QUESTIONABLE; TE Josh Oliver (wrist/ankle) OUT Bears: OT Kiran Amegadjie (calf), RB D'Andre Swift (groin) QUESTIONABLE; OT Ryan Bates (concussion), SAF Elijah Hicks (ankle) OUT The Vikings had quarterback Sam Darnold (foot) listed on the initial injury report, but he was a full participant Thursday and Friday after being limited Wednesday. He has no game designation. Running back Aaron Jones (ribs) was a full participant in practice all week and is clear to play. A surprise to see running back D'Andre Swift on the injury report for the Bears, as he's battling a groin injury and is questionable. Swift did not practice Wednesday and was limited the rest of the week. Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans (-8.5) Titans: CB Justin Hardee (groin), CB Roger McCreary (knee) QUESTIONABLE; LB Jack Gibbens (ankle), CB L'Jarius Sneed (quad), RB Tyjae Spears (concussion), T Leroy Watson IV (back) OUT Texans: DT Denico Autry (knee/oblique) QUESTIONABLE; DT Foley Fatukasi (foot), OT Blake Fisher (concussion) OUT The Titans had quite a few players listed on the injury report. Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and running rack Tyjae Spears are among those sidelined this Sunday. For the Texans, pass rusher Will Anderson Jr . (ankle) was limited to start the week after he missed last week's game, but was a full participant Friday and has no game designation. Cornerback Derek Stingley Jr . was also limited Wednesday and Thursday, but improved as a full participant by Friday. Detroit Lions (-7.5) at Indianapolis Colts Lions: CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr . (hamstring) OUT; CB Terrion Arnold (groin), CB Emmanuel Moseley (pectoral) QUESTIONABLE Colts: DE Tyquan Lewis (elbow) QUESTIONABLE; OT Bernhard Raimann (knee) OUT As you can see, the Lions are dealing with injuries at cornerback. Fortunately for them, Moseley was a full practice participant throughout the week. Arnold was a full participant Friday after being limited Thursday. Tackle Bernhard Raimann (knee) was the only nonparticipant to start the week and he is officially listed as out. Defensive end Tyquan Lewis was a full participant, but is questionable. New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-7.5) Patriots: DT Jaquelin Roy (neck) OUT; DT Christian Barmore (NIR), T Vederian Lowe (shoulder), DE Deatrich Wise Jr . (foot), S Kyle Dugger (ankle), S Marte Mapu (neck), DE Keion White (knee), LB Anfernee Jennings (knee), G Cole Strange (knee), LB Sione Takitaki (knee), CB Christian Gonzalez (hip) QUESTIONABLE Dolphins: CB Kendall Fuller (concussion) OUT; OT Terron Armstead (knee), FB Alec Ingold (calf), G Isaiah Wynn (quad/knee), S Patrick McMorris (calf) QUESTIONABLE It would almost be easier to name the Patriots who aren't on the injury report. With the exception of Barmore, every Patriot with a questionable designation was limited during Friday's practice. Gonzalez was limited Friday after not appearing on the injury report on Wednesday and Thursday. For the Dolphins, Armstead didn't practice all week, while McMorris was questionable despite being a full practice participant all week. Ingold and Wynn were limited Friday. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-5.5) at New York Giants Buccaneers: S Tykee Smith (knee) DOUBTFUL; CB Jamel Dean (hamstring), WR Mike Evans (hamstring), DL Greg Gaines (foot), CB Troy Hill (ankle/foot), CB Zyon McCollum (hamstring), T Tristan Wirfs (knee/foot) QUESTIONABLE Giants: WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton (Achilles), LB Darius Muasau (hamstring), LB Kayvon Thibodeaux (wrist), LB Micah McFadden (heel), WR Malik Nabers (groin) QUESTIONABLE The Buccaneers are expected to have wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring) back Sunday, as he was a limited participant Friday after practicing in full the previous day. Conversely, Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers did not practice Friday due to a groin injury and is questionable. Kayvon Thibodeaux was limited Wednesday but was a full participant the rest of the week. Dallas Cowboys at Washington Commanders (-10.5) Cowboys: S Markquese Bell (shoulder), TE Jake Ferguson (concussion) OUT; G Zack Martin (ankle/shoulder) DOUBTFUL; WR Brandin Cooks (knee), CB Trevon Diggs (groin/knee), T Chuma Edoga (toe), DE Marshawn Kneeland (knee), G Tyler Smith (ankle/knee), LB Nick Vigil (foot) QUESTIONABLE Commanders: CB Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) OUT; LB Nick Bellore (knee), DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste (ankle), K Austin Seibert (right hip) QUESTIONABLE All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland is set to make his season debut after not getting an injury designation for Sunday. Also suiting up for the Cowboys is wideout CeeDee Lamb , who showed up on the injury report this week with back and foot injuries. The Commanders will be without Marshon Lattimore, who hasn't practiced since he was traded to the team. Each of Washington's questionable players were full practice participants Friday. Denver Broncos (-5.5) at Las Vegas Raiders Broncos: LB Drew Sanders (Achilles), WR Josh Reynolds (hand) OUT; DE Zach Allen (heel) QUESTIONABLE Raiders: CB Jakorian Bennett (shoulder), CB Nate Hobbs (ankle) OUT; RB Alexander Mattison (ankle), RB Zamir White (quadricep) DOUBTFUL; TE Harrison Bryant (ankle), C Andre James (ankle), CB Jack Jones (back), G Cody Whitehair (ankle) QUESTIONABLE Allen's loss would be significant as he is one of the Broncos' top defenders with five sacks and a dozen tackles for loss through 11 games. Jordan Jackson , a 2022 sixth-round pick, is slate to start in the event that Allen can't go. The Raiders are hurt at several positions, including at running back. Backups Ameer Abdullah and Dylan Laube are in line to split the reps in the event that White and Mattison can't go. San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers (-5.5) 49ers: QB Brock Purdy (shoulder), DL Nick Bosa (hip/oblique), LB Tatum Bethune (knee), DL Kevin Givens (groin), CB Charvarius Ward (personal), WR Jacob Cowing (concussion) OUT; LT Trent Williams (ankle), OL Jon Feliciano (knee) QUESTIONABLE Packers: LB Edgerrin Cooper (hamstring), CB Jaire Alexander (knee) OUT; DL Colby Wooden (shoulder) QUESTIONABLE With Purdy out, veteran quarterback Brandon Allen will start in his place. Allen, 32, has attempted just three passes in a regular season game over the past three years. His last start in the NFL occurred in 2021 as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals . Allen has nine career starts under his belt, going 2-7. For the Packers, Eric Stokes is slated to start in place of Alexander. A former first-round pick, Stokes has made six starts this season. Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks (-1) Cardinals: DB Jalen Thompson (ankle) OUT; DL Darius Robinson (calf), OT Jonah Williams (knee), LB Xavier Thomas (back) QUESTIONABLE Seahawks: TE Brady Russell (foot) OUT; TE Noah Fant (groin), WR Laviska Shenault Jr . (back) QUESTIONABLE Each of Arizona's questionable players were limited during Friday's practice. In Seattle, both Fant and Shenault practiced in full Friday, which is obviously a good sign for Sunday's game. Philadelphia Eagles (-3) at Los Angeles Rams Eagles: WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring) OUT; WR Britain Covey (shoulder) QUESTIONABLE Rams: CB Charles Woods (ankle), OL KT Leveston (ankle) OUT; OL Rob Havenstein (ankle) DOUBTFUL Eagles edge rusher Bryce Huff (wrist) did not practice this week as he underwent wrist surgery . With Smith out, expect a bigger workload Sunday from fellow wideout A.J. Brown , tight ends Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra and running back Saquon Barkley . They're not out of the woods, but the Rams' injury situation is significantly better than it was during the season's first month. If Havenstein can't go, Warren McClendon Jr. is in line to start in his place. A 2023 fifth-round pick, McClendon has already made three starts this season. 999 slot game online By JAMIE STENGLE, Associated Press DALLAS (AP) — More than 60 years after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated , conspiracy theories still swirl and any new glimpse into the fateful day of Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas continues to fascinate . President-elect Donald Trump promised during his reelection campaign that he would declassify all of the remaining government records surrounding the assassination if he returned to office. He made a similar pledge during his first term, but ultimately bended to appeals from the CIA and FBI to keep some documents withheld. At this point, only a few thousand of the millions of governmental records related to the assassination have yet to be fully released, and those who have studied the records released so far say that even if the remaining files are declassified, the public shouldn’t anticipate any earth-shattering revelations. “Anybody waiting for a smoking gun that’s going to turn this case upside down will be sorely disappointed,” said Gerald Posner, author of “Case Closed,” which concludes that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Friday’s 61st anniversary is expected to be marked with a moment of silence at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy’s motorcade was passing through when he was fatally shot. And throughout this week there have been events marking the anniversary. Nov. 22, 1963 When Air Force One carrying Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy touched down in Dallas , they were greeted by a clear sky and enthusiastic crowds. With a reelection campaign on the horizon the next year, they had gone to Texas on political fence-mending trip. But as the motorcade was finishing its parade route downtown, shots rang out from the Texas School Book Depository building. Police arrested 24-year-old Oswald and, two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby fatally shot Oswald during a jail transfer. A year after the assassination, the Warren Commission, which President Lyndon B. Johnson established to investigate the assassination, concluded that Oswald acted alone and there was no evidence of a conspiracy. But that hasn’t quelled a web of alternative theories over the decades. The collection In the early 1990s, the federal government mandated that all assassination-related documents be housed in a single collection in the National Archives and Records Administration. The collection of over 5 million records was required to be opened by 2017, barring any exemptions designated by the president. Trump, who took office for his first term in 2017, had boasted that he’d allow the release of all of the remaining records but ended up holding some back because of what he called the potential harm to national security. And while files have continued to be released during President Joe Biden’s administration, some still remain unseen. The documents released over the last few years offer details on the way intelligence services operated at the time, and include CIA cables and memos discussing visits by Oswald to the Soviet and Cuban embassies during a trip to Mexico City just weeks before the assassination. The former Marine had previously defected to the Soviet Union before returning home to Texas. Mark S. Zaid, a national security attorney in Washington, said what’s been released so far has contributed to the understanding of the time period, giving “a great picture” of what was happening during the Cold War and the activities of the CIA. Withheld files Posner estimates that there are still about 3,000 to 4,000 documents in the collection that haven’t yet been fully released. Of those documents, some are still completely redacted while others just have small redactions, like someone’s Social Security number. There are about 500 documents where all the information is redacted, Posner said, and those include Oswald’s and Ruby’s tax returns. “If you have been following it, as I have and others have, you sort of are zeroed in on the pages you think might provide some additional information for history,” Posner said. Trump’s transition team hasn’t responded to questions this week about his plans when he takes office. A continued fascination From the start, there were those who believed there had to be more to the story than just Oswald acting alone, said Stephen Fagin, curator of the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which tells the story of the assassination from the building where Oswald made his sniper’s perch. “People want to make sense of this and they want to find the solution that fits the crime,” said Fagin, who said that while there are lingering questions, law enforcement made “a pretty compelling case” against Oswald. Larry J. Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said his interest in the assassination dates back to the event itself, when he was a child. “It just seemed so fantastical that one very disturbed individual could end up pulling off the crime of the century,” Sabato said. “But the more I studied it, the more I realized that is a very possible, maybe even probable in my view, hypothesis.”

Minister Nara Lokesh Unveils Skill Census To Boost Youth EmploymentAzincourt Energy (CVE:AAZ) Trading Up 50% – What’s Next?

Avista Posts Updated Corporate Responsibility ReportIsrael’s attorney general has ordered police to open an investigation into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife on suspicion of harassing political opponents and witnesses in the Israeli leader’s corruption trial. The Israeli Justice Ministry made the announcement in a terse message late Thursday, saying the investigation would focus on the findings of a recent report by the “Uvda” investigative program into Sara Netanyahu . The program uncovered a trove of WhatsApp messages in which Mrs. Netanyahu appears to instruct a former aid to organize protests against political opponents and to intimidate Hadas Klein, a key witness in the trial. The announcement did not mention Mrs. Netanyahu by name, and the Justice Ministry declined further comment. But in a video released earlier Thursday, Netanyahu listed what he said were the many kind and charitable acts by his wife and blasted the Uvda report as “lies.” It was the latest in a long line of legal troubles for the Netanyahus — highlighted by the prime minister's ongoing corruption trial. Netanyahu is charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in a series of cases alleging he exchanged favors with powerful media moguls and wealthy associates. Netanyahu denies the charges and says he is the victim of a “witch hunt” by overzealous prosecutors, police and the media.

Pandas An An and Ke Ke celebrate their 1st Christmas in Hong Kong HONG KONG (AP) — A pair of five-year-old pandas, named An An and Ke Ke, celebrated their first Christmas early in a Hong Kong park, munching on special treats and looking cute for the cameras. An An, the male panda, was presented with an ice slab that had “Merry Christmas” written on it with sweet potato and carrots while Ke Ke, his female companion, got a snowman garnished with slices of carrot and apple in a special press event Monday before visitors streamed to the park. China sent the pair to Hong Kong in late September in a bid to boost tourism in the city. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Wemby: Spurs-Knicks Christmas game is also an animated one at Disney World NEW YORK (AP) — There’s a Christmas Day basketball game at Walt Disney World, featuring Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Wemby. While Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are facing the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, an alternate animated telecast will have the teams playing in the Magic Kingdom, with some Disney characters participating. The special alt-cast, the first animated presentation of an NBA game, will be shown on ESPN2 and also stream on Disney+ and ESPN+. 'Squid Game' returns looking for win with season 2 The first season of “Squid Game” was Netflix's most-watched series and went on to win a variety of accolades including the Emmy Award for lead actor in a drama series for Lee Jung-jae and a directing award for Hwang Dong-hyuk. The show returns for its second season on Dec. 26 and is already nominated for a Golden Globe for best drama. It's rare for TV shows made in Korea to have more than one season but Lee describes Hwang as “a genius.” A third and final season has already filmed. Netflix is also invested in expanding its “Squid Game” universe with a reality competition series and an English-language version in development. In the ruins of a bombed-out church in Lebanon, there's now a tiny Christmas tree DARDGHAYA, Lebanon (AP) — A Christmas tree stands among the fallen stones in the ruins of a Catholic church in southern Lebanon that was hit by an Israeli airstrike during the war with Hezbollah. It's a small and modest tree. There are no lights because the war destroyed power lines. The ground is too uneven to set up the Nativity scene. The priest says his blood pressure went up and he lost his balance when he saw the church's destruction. Now he leads Mass in an underground room that serves as a temporary worship space. He tells the community it “is more like the cave where Jesus was born.” Burt, the huge Australian crocodile who had a cameo in ‘Crocodile Dundee,’ dies at 90 The Crocosaurus Cove reptile aquarium in Darwin, Australia, says the huge crocodile that rose to fame with a cameo in the movie “Crocodile Dundee” has died. The aquarium says Burt died over the weekend and was at least 90 years old. A saltwater crocodile, Burt was estimated to be more than 5 meters long. The 1986 movie stars Paul Hogan as the rugged crocodile hunter Mick Dundee. In the movie, American Sue Charlton, played by actress Linda Kozlowski, goes to fill her canteen in a watering hole when she is attacked by a crocodile, before being saved by Dundee. Elaborate holiday light displays are making spirits bright in a big way CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow might be enough to brighten some homes this holiday season. But others are adorned with thousands of blinking lights synched to blasting music. In Mesa, Arizona, 14 homeowners have been going all-out on holiday lights for 30 years, and those buying homes in the neighborhood often find the attics full of décor left behind by previous owners. In Santa Clarita, California, residents began coordinating their holiday lights to bring some joy to their community after an earthquake. And in Edmond, Oklahoma, those looking to the western sky will easily spot the Miranda family’s elaborate display featuring images and music from the movie “Wicked.” Santa braves the sticky heat of the Amazon jungle to bring gifts to children in Brazilian village CATALAO, Brazil (AP) — Santa Claus has braved the sticky heat of the Amazon rainforest this weekend, taking two boats to bring gifts to the children of a small village near the Brazilian city of Manaus. The visit was arranged by Amigos do Papai Noel, a Brazilian charity that has been taking gifts to children in the Amazon rainforest for the past 26 years. More than 600 children from different villages gathered in Catalao to receive presents from Santa, who dressed in his traditional nightcap, white gloves and red suit, while enduring the stifling jungle heat. NASA's Parker Solar Probe aims to fly closer to the sun like never before NEW YORK (AP) — A NASA spacecraft is about to make the closest approach to the sun. The Parker Solar Probe was launched in 2018 to get a close-up look at the sun. On Tuesday, Parker will pass within a record-breaking 3.8 million miles of the sun’s surface. That's nearly seven times closer to the sun than previous spacecraft. Scientists won’t hear from Parker until a few days after the flyby. It’ll continue circling the sun at this distance until at least September. Scientists hope to better understand what drives the solar wind and why the corona is so much hotter than the sun's surface. 174 Colorado skiers and snowboarders rescued after a lift cracks WINTER PARK, Colo. (AP) — Officials are investigating what caused a crack in a Colorado ski lift that forced the evacuation of over 170 stranded skiers and snowboarders. The evacuation happened Saturday on a gondola lift at Winter Park Resort. A spokesperson says the lift stopped automatically when a crack was detected in a structural piece of the lift. Passengers were lowered down by ropes over the course of about five hours. No injuries were reported during the rescues, which came at the start of the busy holiday season. 'Sonic 3' bests 'Mufasa: The Lion King' at the box office NEW YORK (AP) — In the holiday season battle of big-budget family movies, Paramount Pictures’ “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” sped past the Walt Disney Co.’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” to take the top spot at the box office. The results came just ahead of the lucrative Christmas corridor in theaters. According to studio estimates, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” debuted with $62 million in ticket sales over the weekend. “Mufasa,” however, was humbled in its opening weekend, coming in notably shy of expectations. It returned just $35 million in domestic ticket sales.Shoppers flock to buy Celebrations and Ferrero Rocher at surprising retailer for just £1 as part of jawdropping saleATLANTA — For the past 20 years, Georgia native Zac Brown and his band have performed more than 1,000 concerts, true workhorses on the road, moving from small bars to massive arenas and stadiums. And after a few years taking New Year’s off, Brown decided to get the band together for a one-off hometown gathering at State Farm Arena on Dec. 31 with Georgian and “American Idol” runner-up Will Moseley as one of the openers. The set list, said Brown in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, will be far heavier on high energy party songs than normal given the occasion. “It’s always a big night for a party and we decided it was a good time to finish a year that’s had a lot of challenges,” Brown said. “It’s a great reset for everybody. Music is powerful medicine and we want to give everyone a good dose of it going into the new year.” The band performed several stadium dates opening for Kenny Chesney in the spring and summer, including a stop at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in May. The last time they performed a headlining show in metro Atlanta was at Truist Park in 2022. State Farm Arena will be both relatively intimate and a bit like a family reunion. “Everybody’s families can come and hang out backstage,” he said. “It’s going to be a sea of kids. Our band now has 26 kids total. I never imagined I’d have five myself. But I can’t imagine not having them.” Brown is a natural fan of State Farm Arena in part because he has run a restaurant there called Zac Brown’s Social Club for the past six years. In 2010 and 2011, the band played New Year’s shows at Phillips Arena, which is what the place was called before it was renovated in 2018. “This is a special one for us because of our ties to the place. It’s like a big full circle homecoming.” He said he also is happy to still have John Driskell Hopkins, who is suffering from ALS, in the band. “The ALS is slow moving and we’re grateful for that,” Brown said. “He can provide harmonies and be on the road with us. He was the first person in the Zac Brown Band. He’s the best background singer I’ve ever heard anywhere.” Brown, who is in the midst of a contentious divorce after a very brief marriage with model and actress Kelly Yazdi and has his Cumming home up for sale, said he has managed the stress with help from a nutritionist, a trainer and a vocal coach. “When you go through storms, you focus on things that matter and do the right thing by people,” he said. “You can’t let anyone steal your joy. It distracts you from being creative and being present with your family.” His entrepreneurial bug has led him to create branded products over the years including wine and speakers. His latest: biltong beef jerky ( $19.99 for 8 ounces on zacbrownband.com ). “It’s really healthy as opposed to jerky smoked with tons of salt,” he said. Brown wants to exemplify the life and lifestyle of Jimmy Buffett, a friend of his who died last year. “He created his own world, an entire culture of his own,” he said. “I want to follow in his footsteps. He was a mentor. And the great thing about him is he was so down to earth. I was watching football with him in Key West once and we saw someone fishing out on the rocks outside. He went out there and didn’t kick him out. He showed him where to throw the bait and the best bait to use. Then he came back inside and kept watching football.” He recalled Buffett telling him that success doesn’t make him any better than anybody else. “You have to lead by example and earn people’s respect,” said Brown. “I’m blessed to have such an incredible crew and band of people who trust me. And I trust them.” Indeed, several band members have been with him since “Toes” and “Chicken Fried” became radio hits in 2009, including Hopkins, Clay Cook, Jimmy De Martini and Coy Bowles. Brown said he feels “better than I have ever felt. Creativity is flowing. The songs are coming. We’re making a new album. We have huge announcements next year. Our goal is to keep elevating what we’re doing.” Although he won’t say what that big announcement is, he did tease that it has something to do with Las Vegas, home to the Sphere in Las Vegas, which has hosted extended residencies for U2, Phish and now the Eagles. Brown has seen all three shows. “It’s 4 acres of 16K video on the walls. It’s 160,000 speakers,” Brown said. “The place is mind blowing.” ——— IF YOU GO Zac Brown Band New Year’s show 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. $59.50 and up. Indian American Tech Figures Respond to MAGA Attacks on H1-B VisasAP Business SummaryBrief at 4:13 p.m. ESTBy LISA MASCARO and ALANNA DURKIN RICHER WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Ethics Committee’s long-awaited report on Matt Gaetz documents a trove of salacious allegations , including sex with an underage girl, that tanked the Florida Republican’s bid to lead the Justice Department . Related Articles National Politics | President-elect Trump wants to again rename North America’s tallest peak National Politics | An analyst looks ahead to how the US economy might fare under Trump National Politics | Trump again calls to buy Greenland after eyeing Canada and the Panama Canal National Politics | House Ethics Committee accuses Gaetz of ‘regularly’ paying for sex, including with 17-year-old girl National Politics | Trump wants mass deportations. For the agents removing immigrants, it’s a painstaking process Citing text messages, travel receipts, online payments and testimony, the bipartisan committee paints a picture of a lifestyle in which Gaetz and others connected with younger women for drug-fueled parties, events or trips, with the expectation the women would be paid for their participation. The former congressman, who filed a last-minute lawsuit to try to block the report’s release on Monday, slammed the committee’s findings. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing and has insisted he never had sex with a minor. And a Justice Department investigation into the allegations ended without any criminal charges filed against him. “Giving funds to someone you are dating — that they didn’t ask for — and that isn’t ‘charged’ for sex is now prostitution?!?” Gaetz wrote in one post on Monday. “There is a reason they did this to me in a Christmas Eve-Eve report and not in a courtroom of any kind where I could present evidence and challenge witnesses.” Here’s a look at some of the committee’s key findings: ‘Sex-for-money arrangements,’ drug-fueled parties and trips The committee found that between 2017 and 2020, Gaetz paid tens of thousands of dollars to women “likely in connection with sexual activity and/or drug use.” He paid the women using through online services such as PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp and with cash or check, the committee said. The committee said it found evidence that Gaetz understood the “transactional nature” of his relationships with the women. The report points to one text exchange in which Gaetz balked at a woman’s request that he send her money, “claiming she only gave him a ‘drive by.’” Women interviewed by the committee said there was a “general expectation of sex,” the report said. One woman who received more than $5,000 from Gaetz between 2018 and 2019 said that “99 percent of the time” that when she hung out with Gaetz “there was sex involved.” However, Gaetz was in a long-term relationship with one of the women he paid, so “some of the payments may have been of a legitimate nature,” the committee said. Text messages obtained by the committee also show that Gaetz would ask the women to bring drugs to their “rendezvous,” the report said. While most of his encounters with the women were in Florida, the committee said Gaetz also traveled “on several occasions” with women whom he paid for sex. The report includes text message exchanges in which Gaetz appears to be inviting various women to events, getaways or parties, and arranging airplane travel and lodging. Gaetz associate Joel Greenberg, who pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges in 2021, initially connected with women through an online service. In one text with a 20-year-old woman, Greenberg suggested if she has a friend, the four of them could meet up. The woman responded that she usually does “$400 per meet.” Greenberg replied: “He understands the deal,” along with a smiley face emoji. Greenberg asks if they are old enough to drink alcohol, and sent the woman a picture of Gaetz. The woman responded that her friend found him “really cute.” “Well, he’s down here for only for the day, we work hard and play hard,” Greenberg replied. ‘Substantial evidence’ indicates that Gaetz had sex with underage girl, the committee said The report details a party in July 2017 in which Gaetz is accused of having sex with “multiple women, including the 17-year-old, for which they were paid.” The committee pointed to “credible testimony” from the now-woman herself as well as “multiple individuals” who corroborated the allegation. The then-17-year-old — who had just completed her junior year in high school — told the committee that Gaetz paid her $400 in cash that night, “which she understood to be payment for sex,” according to the report. The woman acknowledged that she had taken ecstasy the night of the party, but told the committee that she was “certain” of her sexual encounters with the then-congressman. There’s no evidence that Gaetz knew she was a minor when he had sex with her, the committee said. The woman told the committee she didn’t tell Gaetz she was under 18 at the time and that he didn’t how old she was. Rather, the committee said Gaetz learned she was a minor more than a month after the party. But he stayed in touch with her after that and met up with her for “commercial sex” again less than six months after she turned 18, according to the committee. Gaetz said evidence would ‘exonerate’ him but provided none of it In sum, the committee said it authorized 29 subpoenas for documents and testimony, reviewed nearly 14,000 documents and contacted more than two dozen witnesses. But when the committee subpoenaed Gaetz for his testimony, he failed to comply. “Gaetz pointed to evidence that would ‘exonerate’ him yet failed to produce any such materials,” the committee said. Gaetz “continuously sought to deflect, deter, or mislead the Committee in order to prevent his actions from being exposed.” The report details a months-long process that dragged into a year as it sought information from Gaetz that he decried as “nosey” and a “weaponization” of government against him. In one notable exchange, investigators were seeking information about the expenses for a 2018 get-away with multiple women to the Bahamas. Gaetz ultimately offered up his plane ticket receipt “to” the destination, but declined to share his return “from” the Bahamas. The report said his return on a private plane and other expenses paid by an associate were in violation of House gift rules. In another Gaetz told the committee he would “welcome” the opportunity to respond to written questions. Yet, after it sent a list of 16 questions, Gaetz said publicly he would “no longer” voluntarily cooperate. He called the investigation “frivolous,” adding: “Every investigation into me ends the same way: my exoneration.” The report said that while Gaetz’s obstruction of the investigation does not rise to a criminal violation it is inconsistent with the requirement that all members of Congress “act in a manner that reflects creditably upon the House.” Justice Department didn’t cooperate with the committee The committee began its review of Gaetz in April 2021 and deferred its work in response to a Justice Department request. It renewed its work shortly after Gaetz announced that the Justice Department had ended a sex trafficking investigation without filing any charges against him. The committee sought records from the Justice Department about the probe, but the agency refused, saying it doesn’t disclose information about investigations that don’t result in charges. The committee then subpoenaed the Justice Department, but after a back-and-forth between officials and the committee, the department handed over “publicly reported information about the testimony of a deceased individual,” according to the report. “To date, DOJ has provided no meaningful evidence or information to the Committee or cited any lawful basis for its responses,” the committee said. Many of the women who the committee spoke to had already given statements to the Justice Department and didn’t want to “relive their experience,” the committee said. “They were particularly concerned with providing additional testimony about a sitting congressman in light of DOJ’s lack of action on their prior testimony,” the report said. The Justice Department, however, never handed over the women’s statements. The agency’s lack of cooperation — along with its request that the committee pause its investigation — significantly delayed the committee’s probe, lawmakers said.

Enzo Maresca savoured chants of ‘we’ve got our Chelsea back’ from travelling fans following a 5-1 Premier League thrashing of 10-man Southampton at St Mary’s. Blues supporters also sang the name of head coach Maresca during the closing stages of an emphatic success sealed by goals from Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and substitute Jadon Sancho. Bottom club Southampton briefly levelled through Joe Aribo but were a man down from the 39th minute after captain Jack Stephens was sent off for pulling the hair of Marc Cucurella. Chelsea, who have endured an underwhelming period since Todd Boehly’s consortium bought the club in 2022, climbed above Arsenal and into second place on goal difference, seven points behind leaders Liverpool. “It was a very good feeling, especially because you can see that they are happy, that is our target,” Maresca said of the atmosphere in the away end. “We work every day to keep them happy and tonight was a very good feeling, especially the one that they can see that Chelsea’s back. This is an important thing.” Maresca rotated his squad in Hampshire, making seven changes following Sunday’s impressive 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Following a sloppy start, his side, who stretched their unbeaten run to six top-flight games, could easily have won by more as they hit the woodwork three times, in addition to squandering a host of chances. “I’m very happy with the five we scored,” said the Italian. “I’m not happy with the first 15, 20 minutes, where we struggled. The reason why we struggled is because we prepared the game to press them man to man and the first 15, 20 minutes we were not pressing them man to man. “After 15, 20 minutes we adjust that and the game was much better. For sure we could score more but five goals they are enough.” Southampton manager Russell Martin rued a costly “moment of madness” from skipper Stephens. The defender’s ridiculous red card was the headline mistake of a catalogue of errors from the beleaguered south-coast club as they slipped seven points from safety following an 11th defeat of a dismal season. “I don’t think anyone will be as disappointed as Jack,” Martin said of Stephens, who was sent off for the second time this term after tugging the curls of Cucurella as Saints prepared to take a corner. “I haven’t got to sit down and talk with him about that at all. He will be hurt more than anyone and it’s changed the game for us tonight, which is disappointing. “I think they have to describe it as violent conduct; it’s not violent really but there’s no other explanation for that really. It’s a moment of madness that’s really cost us and Jack.” Southampton repeatedly invited pressure with their risky attempts to play out from defence, with goalkeeper Joe Lumley gifting Chelsea their second goal, scored by Nkunku. While Saints were booed off at full-time, Martin, who was missing a host of key players due to injuries and suspensions, praised the effort of his depleted team. “When they see such a big scoreline and a couple of the goals we concede, I understand it (the jeers),” he said. “It’s football, it’s emotive, people feel so much about it, it’s why it’s such a special sport in this country and so big. “I understand it but I feel really proud of the players tonight, some of the football we played at 11 v 11 was amazing. “For an hour with 10 men we’ve dug in so deep, there were some big performances. I’m proud of them for that and I’m grateful for that because that’s not easy in that circumstance.”76ers' star Paul George sidelined the next 2 games with bone bruise in left knee

Column: Latest nutty idea from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred — the Golden At-Bat — proves how little he cares about baseball fans

BY MELISSA GOLDIN Social media users are misrepresenting a report released Thursday by the Justice Department inspector general’s office, falsely claiming that it’s proof the FBI orchestrated the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. The watchdog report examined a number of areas, including whether major intelligence failures preceded the riot and whether the FBI in some way provoked the violence. Claims spreading online focus on the report’s finding that 26 FBI informants were in Washington for election-related protests on Jan. 6, including three who had been tasked with traveling to the city to report on others who were potentially planning to attend the events. Although 17 of those informants either entered the Capitol or a restricted area around the building during the riot, none of the 26 total informants were authorized to do so by the bureau, according to the report. Nor were they authorized to otherwise break the law or encourage others to do so. Here’s a closer look at the facts. CLAIM: A December 2024 report released by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General is proof that the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was a setup by the FBI. THE FACTS: That’s false. The report found that no undercover FBI employees were at the riot on Jan. 6 and that none of the bureau’s informants were authorized to participate. Informants, also known as confidential human sources, work with the FBI to provide information, but are not on the bureau’s payroll. Undercover agents are employed by the FBI. According to the report, 26 informants were in Washington on Jan. 6 in connection with the day’s events. FBI field offices only informed the Washington Field Office or FBI headquarters of five informants that were to be in the field on Jan. 6. Of the total 26 informants, four entered the Capitol during the riot and an additional 13 entered a restricted area around the Capitol. But none were authorized to do so by the FBI, nor were they given permission to break other laws or encourage others to do the same. The remaining nine informants did not engage in any illegal activities. None of the 17 informants who entered the Capitol or surrounding restricted area have been prosecuted, the report says. A footnote states that after reviewing a draft of the report, the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington said that it “generally has not charged those individuals whose only crime on January 6, 2021 was to enter restricted grounds surrounding the Capitol, which has resulted in the Office declining to charge hundreds of individuals; and we have treated the CHSs consistent with this approach.” The assistant special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office’s counterterrorism division told the inspector general’s office that he “denied a request from an FBI office to have an undercover employee engage in investigative activity on January 6.” He, along with then-Washington Field Office Assistant Director in Charge Steven D’Antuono, said that FBI policy prohibits undercover employees at First Amendment-protected events without investigative authority. Many social media users drew false conclusions from the report’s findings. “JANUARY 6th WAS A SETUP!” reads one X post that had received more than 11,400 likes and shares as of Friday. “New inspector general report shows that 26 FBI/DOJ confidential sources were in the crowd on January 6th, and some of them went into the Capitol and restricted areas. Is it a coincidence that Wray put in his resignation notice yesterday? TREASON!” The mention of Wray’s resignation refers to FBI Director Christopher Wray’s announcement Wednesday that he plans to resign at the end of President Joe Biden’s term in January. Other users highlighted the fact that there were 26 FBI informants in Washington on Jan. 6, but omitted key information about the findings of the report. These claims echo a fringe conspiracy theory advanced by some Republicans in Congress that the FBI played a role in instigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, when rioters determined to overturn Republican Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden stormed the Capitol in a violent clash with police. The report knocks that theory down. Wray called such theories “ludicrous” at a congressional hearing last year. Asked for comment on the false claims spreading online, Stephanie Logan, a spokesperson for the inspector general’s office, pointed The Associated Press to a press release about the report. In addition to its findings about the the FBI’s involvement on Jan. 6, the report said that the FBI, in an action its now-deputy director described as a “basic step that was missed,” failed to canvass informants across all 56 of its field offices for any relevant intelligence ahead of time. That was a step, the report concluded, “that could have helped the FBI and its law enforcement partners with their preparations in advance of January 6.” However, it did credit the bureau for preparing for the possibility of violence and for trying to identify known “domestic terrorism subjects” who planned to come to Washington that day. The FBI said in a letter responding to the report that it accepts the inspection general’s recommendation “regarding potential process improvements for future events.”

Foul trouble plagues UConn men’s basketball as it drops second-straight game in Maui, 73-72, to ColoradoThe decision by Tesco, Musgrave and the BWG Group came after a woman who said Mr McGregor raped her won a civil claim for damages against him. Nikita Hand, who accused the sportsman of raping her in a Dublin hotel in December 2018, won her claim against him for damages in a case at the High Court in the Irish capital. In a statement, a spokesman for Musgrave said: “Musgrave can confirm these products are no longer available to our store network.” The network includes SuperValu, Centra, Daybreak and Mace. A Tesco spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we are removing Proper No Twelve Whiskey from sale in Tesco stores and online.” A spokesperson for BWG Group said: “The products are no longer listed for distribution across our network of Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis and XL stores, including Appleby Westward which operates over 300 Spar stores in the south west of England.” It is understood that other retail outlets including Costcutter and Carry Out will also stop stocking products linked to Mr McGregor. He and some of his business partners sold their majority stake in the Proper Number Twelve Irish whiskey brand. He was reported to have been paid more than £103 million from the sale to Proximo Spirits in 2021. On Monday, a popular video game developer decided to pull content featuring the MMA fighter. The Irish athlete has featured in multiple video games, including voice-acting a character bearing his likeness in additional downloadable content in the Hitman series. Mr McGregor’s character featured as a target for the player-controlled assassin in the game. IO Interactive, the Danish developer and publisher of Hitman, said in a statement: “In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. “We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. “Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr McGregor from our storefronts starting today.” Last Friday, the High Court jury awarded damages amounting to 248,603.60 euros (around £206,000) to Ms Hand. Mr McGregor made no comment as he left court but later posted on social media that he intended to appeal against the decision.

Paycor to Present at the UBS Global Technology and AI ConferenceNEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks tiptoed to more records amid a mixed Tuesday of trading, tacking a touch more onto what’s already been a stellar year so far. The S&P 500 edged up by 2 points, or less than 0.1%, to set an all-time high for the 55th time this year. It’s climbed in 10 of the last 11 days and is on track for one of its best years since the turn of the millennium. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 76 points, or 0.2%, while the Nasdaq composite added 0.4% to its own record set a day earlier. AT&T rose 4.6% after it boosted its profit forecast for the year. It also announced a $10 billion plan to send cash to its investors by buying back its own stock, while saying it expects to authorize another $10 billion of repurchases in 2027. On the losing end of Wall Street was U.S. Steel, which fell 8%. President-elect Donald Trump reiterated on social media that he would not let Japan’s Nippon Steel take over the iconic Pennsylvania steelmaker. Nippon Steel announced plans last December to buy the Pittsburgh-based steel producer for $14.1 billion in cash, raising concerns about what the transaction could mean for unionized workers, supply chains and U.S. national security. Earlier this year, President Joe Biden also came out against the acquisition. Tesla sank 1.6% after a judge in Delaware reaffirmed a previous ruling that the electric car maker must revoke Elon Musk’s multibillion-dollar pay package. The judge denied a request by attorneys for Musk and Tesla’s corporate directors to vacate her ruling earlier this year requiring the company to rescind the unprecedented pay package. All told, the S&P 500 rose 2.73 points to 6,049.88. The Dow fell 76.47 to 44,705.53, and the Nasdaq composite gained 76.96 to 19,480.91. In the bond market, Treasury yields held relatively steady after a report showed U.S. employers were advertising slightly more job openings at the end of October than a month earlier. Continued strength there would raise optimism that the economy could remain out of a recession that many investors had earlier worried was inevitable. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.23% from 4.20% from late Monday. Yields have seesawed since Election Day amid worries that Trump’s preferences for lower tax rates and bigger tariffs could spur higher inflation along with economic growth. But traders are still confident the Federal Reserve will cut its main interest rate again at its next meeting in two weeks. They’re betting on a nearly three-in-four chance of that, according to data from CME Group. Lower rates can give the economy more juice, but they can also give inflation more fuel. The key report this week that could guide the Fed’s next move will arrive on Friday. It’s the monthly jobs report , which will show how many workers U.S. employers hired and fired during November. It could be difficult to parse given how much storms and strikes distorted figures in October. Based on trading in the options market, Friday’s jobs report appears to be the biggest potential market mover until the Fed announces its next decision on interest rates Dec. 18, according to strategists at Barclays Capital. In financial markets abroad, the value of South Korea’s currency fell 1.1% against the U.S. dollar following a frenetic night where President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law and then later said he’d lift it after lawmakers voted to reject military rule. Stocks of Korean companies that trade in the United States also fell, including a 1.6% drop for SK Telecom. Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 1.9% to help lead global markets. Some analysts think Japanese stocks could end up benefiting from Trump’s threats to raise tariffs , including for goods coming from China . Trade relations between the U.S. and China took another step backward after China said it is banning exports to the U.S. of gallium, germanium, antimony and other key high-tech materials with potential military applications. The counterpunch came swiftly after the U.S. Commerce Department expanded the list of Chinese technology companies subject to export controls to include many that make equipment used to make computer chips, chipmaking tools and software. The 140 companies newly included in the so-called “entity list” are nearly all based in China. In China, stock indexes rose 1% in Hong Kong and 0.4% in Shanghai amid unconfirmed reports that Chinese leaders would meet next week to discuss planning for the coming year. Investors are hoping it may bring fresh stimulus to help spur growth in the world’s second-largest economy. In France, the CAC 40 rose 0.3% amid continued worries about politics in Paris , where the government is battling over the budget. AP Business Writers Yuri Kageyama and Matt Ott contributed. Women’s Euro qualification playoff final IRELAND 1 (Anna Patten 86) WALES 2 (Hannah Cain 50 pen, Carrie Jones 67) Wales win 3-2 on aggregate Whereas Eileen Gleeson branded Aviva Stadium the soul of her team, it was lifeless by the end. Ireland won’t be going to a second successive tournament and they can’t complain either, conceding twice after half-time before managing a late reprieve to generate a stoppage time stampede. Whether Gleeson gets the opportunity of taking Ireland into next year’s Nations League and the subsequent qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup is a moot. She’s out of contract and also out of excuses. Although the breakthrough was dubious, arriving through a VAR-adjudged handball by Anna Patten five minutes after the restart, they were completely exposed for the second 17 minutes later. Megan Campbell’s call from the bench to execute her catapult throw-ins created a threat Ireland lacked earlier in the second half. All that havoc eventually led to Patten atoning for her slip in the run-up to the second goal by cutting the arrears with a header at the second attempt. Her central-defensive companion Caitlin Hayes thought she’d forced extra-time from a similar skirmish but another goal-line technology concluded the clearance was off the line, rather than behind it. Following Friday’s cagey first leg 1-1 draw in Cardiff, the spotlight was on Ireland to seize the initiative on home soil. They were the seeded team, after all. Eileen Gleeson’s claim on the favourites status after that 90 minutes was a rare glimpse of opinion from the guarded manager, perhaps a subtle contribution to the mindgames her Welsh counterpart Rhian Wilkinson was eager to engineer. Translating that talk into actions required a brave selection but the introduction of just one player, defensive midfielder Jessie Stapleton, from the away leg underwhelmed on the teamsheet. Wales plumped for two, one of whom opened the scoring. Gleeson’s refusal to respond to Wilkinson’s constant denigration of Ireland as a physical outfit could be construed as an exercise in optics, for she made no effort to conduct the customary handshakes. There was little choice but to engage when she turned around following the national anthems to find her nemesis approaching her technical area with an outstretched palm. This would ultimately be a game settled on the pitch and by the end of the first half Ireland were fortunate to still have their full complement on it. Worse still was the fact their captain was the risk balancing on the tightrope. Katie McCabe’s propensity for bookings with Arsenal has become something of a parody in England but this was serious, her caution for a wild lunge on 18 minutes the forerunner for another suspect challenge she was lucky to escape without a second yellow. Those incidents accounted for the lowlights of an otherwise promising opening half for the hosts. McCabe’s giddiness during his pre-match press conference continued into proceedings, as she was anxious to whip the crowd into a frenzy seconds before Ireland tipped off. Her punt upfield may have fed the stereotype Wilkinson highlighted but it forced the first two corners inside the opening three minutes. Their ploy of targeting Olivia Clark in the Welsh goal yielded an equaliser in Cardiff but it would be a while before they tested her, either under the high ball or through long shots. When Heather Payne timed her run onto the wrong side of Gemma Evans, both the Liverpool defender and herself fell to the ground in a heap. No penalty, stressed the Spanish official. Ireland would have to find their range from outside the box, yet not before McCabe’s frustrations at losing the ball manifested in catching Josephine Green. Unsurprisingly, the former Gunner was not inclined to accept the apologetic hand of conciliation. Midway through the half, Ireland eventually found their stride. Once Kyra Carusa laid the ball off to Denise O’Sullivan 25 yards out, the Corkwoman only had the posts in her sight. She opened up her body to unleash a right-footer which left Clark stationary and the upright trembling. Moments later, McCabe was next to try a long ranger. Offered space McCabe in a central area, she slipped Lily Woodham before arrowing a scud with her trusty left foot a yard wide. Next to go close was Payne on the half hour, gobbling up the rebound off Julie-Ann Russell’s shot. Despite her best efforts to contort six yards out, she was unable to wrap her foot around the ball to avoid it skewing wide. From that point until the break, though, Wales made waves. It fell in their favour when Littlejohn tripped Hannah Cain on the edge of the box, allowing Woodham to rifle a free-kick. That one was turned around the post by Courtney Brosnan, as Rhiannon Roberts’ low attempt from the resulting corner. Niamh Fahey broke the flow with a snapshot from 30 yards which whizzed wide but the main relief was avoiding their skipper entering the dressing-room early. A fussier referee than Marta Huerta De Aza would have brandished a booking for her clash with Rachel Rowe. Celtic spirit was alive and well in the second half but only from the visitors, who appealed once a cross glanced off the upper arm of Patten. Cain awaited Brosnan’s move to the left before rolling the penalty into the empty net. Chasing an equaliser shouldn’t entitle a team to abandon their shape and moments after Cain almost nicked a second, Ireland were sprung on the break – substitute Carrie Jones placing the ball into the left corner for a deficit Ireland couldn’t overturn. With all 435 House races projected, ABC News estimates Republicans will hold 220 seats and Democrats 215 in the 119th Congress. But it's not clear how vacancies -- or, illness or other absences -- will impact the day-to-day division of power when the House convenes on Jan. 3. President-elect Donald Trump initially tapped three House Republicans for positions in his upcoming administration: Florida Reps. Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz, and New York Rep. Elise Stefanik. Gaetz has already resigned from Congress and withdrew last month from consideration to serve as President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general. And though he won reelection to his seat last month, he said he won't serve another term. MORE | Democrat Adam Gray projected to win California's 13th Congressional District Republicans could have a 217-215 majority while their seats are vacant -- the narrowest GOP majority in history -- and special elections to fill those seats can take months to complete. In this case, any single Republican can hold Johnson hostage: Losing just one Republican on a vote would result in a 216-216 tie. The speaker acknowledged the thin majority, which could pose a challenge in passing Trump's agenda. "Well, just like we do every day here, we've developed an expertise in that. We know how to work with a small majority. That's our custom now," Johnson said. "So, yes -- do the math. We can, we have nothing to spare. But all of our members know that we talked about that today, as we do constantly, that this is a team effort that we've got to all row in the same direction." But several elderly Democrats have missed votes recently, which could give Republicans a little more breathing room next year. In California's 13th District, Duarte conceded to Gray on Tuesday, according to the Turlock Journal. "I'm a citizen legislator, and I didn't plan on being in Congress forever," Duarte told the newspaper. "But whenever I think I can make a difference, I'll consider public service in different forms, including running for Congress again." Gray released a victory statement on X Tuesday evening, extending his gratitude and saying the "final results confirm this district is ready for independent and accountable leadership that always puts the Valley's people ahead of partisan politics." ABC News' Marilyn Heck and Benjamin Siegel contributed to this report.

Pep Guardiola has said his Manchester City side facing problems after giving up a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday. City went into the game with Feyenoord on the back of five consecutive games without a win. The Premier League champions looked set to halt the poor as they led 3-0 thanks to a goal from Ilkay Gundogan and a brace from Erling Haaland. But with 15 minutes left Feyenoord erased the 3-0 deficit to secure a 3-3 draw. ““We have problems, yes,” Guardiola said in his post match. “Three changes? The game is never over, but at 3-0, I could not see any danger.” Up next for City is a difficult trip to Anfield to face Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Warren Buffett's ability to consistently outperform the market has led many to think the billionaire investor has some sort of secretive edge. But the investing strategies Buffett and his top lieutenants over at Berkshire Hathaway employ are rooted in many simple concepts. In other words, making money in the market does not require outsized risks, speculative opportunities, or chasing the next big megatrend. Case in point: According to Berkshire's most recent 13F filing , Buffett's latest major investment is Domino's Pizza ( DPZ 1.68% ) . That's right, billionaires love pizza too! Let's look at how an investment in Domino's fits with Berkshire's investing philosophy, and assess whether now is a good opportunity to follow Buffett's lead. Why Domino's Pizza makes a great addition to the Berkshire portfolio Some institutional investors choose to own hundreds of different securities -- covering every major sector and myriad sub-markets within these industries. Berkshire is a bit different. Buffett and his team tend to invest in maybe 40 or 50 stocks at a time while holding onto their largest positions for years or even decades. Two of Berkshire's most successful investments have been major consumer brands, including beverage maker Coca-Cola and electronics specialist Apple . But why these companies? Consider Coca-Cola's iconic red soda cans and Apple's coveted iPhone. These two products have helped both companies build unparalleled moats . The perception of Domino's isn't much different in my opinion, as it's pretty hard to think about pizza and not have the Domino's brand come to mind. Another staple part of Buffett's philosophy is investing in businesses that generate steady cash flow. While free cash flow trends may be tougher to forecast for restaurant businesses, the big idea from the chart below is that Domino's has managed to grow its cash flow consistently over the course of the past decade. Data by YCharts . The company's rising cash flow has gone toward dividend increases too, which make up another pillar of Buffett's investing criteria. A resilient business in a tough market The restaurant industry is unbelievably intense. For national chains, customers expect quick, convenient service and affordable prices. One key metric for tracking a company's growth is same-store sales , which measures growth trends at existing locations. By excluding new restaurant openings, usually from the past year, same-store sales shed light on customer traffic and spending. The table below breaks down Domino's same-store sales over the last year: Category Q3 2023 Q4 2023 Q1 2024 Q2 2024 Q3 2024 Same-store sales (U.S.) (0.6%) 2.8% 5.6% 4.8% 3.0% Same-store sales (International) 3.3% 0.1% 0.9% 2.1% 0.8% Data source: Investor relations. Domino's has had a solid year with steady growth both inside and outside the U.S. But a skeptical investor may wonder if the company has only been able to generate this same-store sales growth through price hikes as inflation drives up the cost of materials and labor. However, this is far from the case with Domino's. On the latest earnings call, management said same-store sales in the U.S. have been experiencing rising transaction growth in addition to higher price mixes. It appears Domino's is seeing success from its rewards programs and marketing campaigns. Why Domino's should keep delivering The analysis below benchmarks Domino's against a peer set of other national restaurant stocks using the forward price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple. While there is a notable difference between Starbucks and the rest of this group, Domino's remains priced at a premium relative to its closest peer, Papa John's , and many other leading industry players. Data by YCharts . That said, I would argue that Domino's long-term track record warrants a premium valuation. Even though Domino's might not offer exposure to high-growth opportunities in emerging areas like artificial intelligence (AI) or big data, there is still a lot to like about the company. Buffett's recent investment is just another signal to consider Domino's stock as a compelling buy-and-hold opportunity.Meet Malvika Raj Joshi, Indian genius who studied at MIT but was denied admission to IIT due to...

Title: Tencent Video Membership Benefits Shrinking Again, Related Complaints Reach 1 Million in the Past Five YearsCalifornia researchers say the world may be just one genetic tweak away from human-to-human transmission of the H5N1 bird flu virus — a worrisome mutation that could open the door to widespread human infections and possibly even a pandemic, according to some experts. In a study published Thursday in the journal Science, Scripps Research Institute biologists determined that a single mutation of the hemagglutinin protein — the “H” in H5N1 — could transform a virus that has so far sickened or killed mostly birds and cows into a pathogen that targets cells in human beings. The finding comes amid a growing number of H5N1 outbreaks among California dairy cows, as well as a state-ordered recall of raw milk products . Since the virus began infecting the nation’s dairy stock in March, infectious disease experts have warned that unprotected contact between dairy workers and infected cows could enable the virus to evolve in a manner that threatens humans. Now, Scripps researchers suggest the path for such a genetic change may be much shorter than state and national health officers anticipated. “This really surprised us,” said study coauthor James Paulson, a biochemist and molecular biologist. This one mutation “satisfies a requirement for transmission,” he said. Richard Webby, director of the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Center for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and Birds, said the study’s finding countered prevailing thought on the virus — specifically, that it would take multiple mutations for the virus to pose a threat to humans. “This will likely cause a stir,” said Webby, who is also a researcher in the department of infectious diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and was not involved in the Scripps research. “I think most of us thought it would probably need more than one change,” Webby said. Yoshihiro Kawaoka, a virologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Tokyo, called the Scripps teams’ finding a “significant discovery” and said it was “critical because, given the mutation rate of influenza viruses, one in every 10,000 particles of the bovine H5N1 virus could carry this mutation.” That means the potential emergence of an H5N1 virus “that can recognize human receptors is closer than we may have thought,” he said. Several months ago, Paulson and coauthor Ian Wilson, a Scripps structural biologist, decided they’d investigate the current H5N1 strain, and see what it would take for it to cause a human pandemic. Paulson is an expert in researching where and how different influenza viruses bind to cells when they enter a host. Wilson studies the structure of influenza virus proteins. The scientists began their research by accessing a global influenza database and locating the genetic sequence for A/Texas/37/2024 — the strain of H5N1 bird flu found in a Texas dairy worker. They then examined the hemagglutinin proteins, or spikes, on the outer surface of the virus, since those enable it to latch onto the cell membrane of its host. Animals such as birds and humans have different docking stations on their cells — known as sialic acid receptors. In order for a flu virus to open a door into a cell and begin replicating, it needs just the right spike, or key. Although more than 50 humans have been infected by H5N1, many of these cases involve dairy workers who were likely sprayed in the eyes and nose with milk from infected cows. Researchers postulate that repeated exposure of this sort allowed the virus to push into the cells — a brute force entry more than a lock-picking. Ordinarily, person-to-person transmission of a flu virus “is mainly through the air from droplets from a sneeze or cough, which contains very little virus,” Paulson said. “In this context, the virus needs to be able to recognize human-type receptors to bind to cells in the human airway in amounts sufficient to cause infection.” In order to figure out what it would take for the virus to gain the right docking equipment to unleash a human pandemic, Paulson, Wilson and their team looked at previous flu outbreaks that had jumped the bird-human divide, including the influenza outbreaks of 1918, 1957, 1968 and 2009 — as well as some earlier research. They “selected a number of positions” on the hemagglutinin protein “to mutate, one at a time” with amino acids they knew had been implicated in previous pandemics. Then they attempted to bind these altered “H” proteins with human and bird receptor analogues. Lo and behold, when they switched a glutamine to a leucine at position 226, it no longer bound to the bird receptors, but instead exclusively to those of humans. Paulson said it was especially interesting because this mutation had occurred before in earlier strains of H5N1, including one from around 2010 — but “at that time, that single mutation was not sufficient to change receptor specificity. So, the unexpected thing is that virus has changed in subtle ways — evolved, if you will — so that now that single mutation does change the receptor specificity.” Although the researchers demonstrated that it was possible for the virus to become a threat to humans with just one genetic change, that does not mean nature will follow that specific path. A multitude of factors can influence the evolution of an organism, and they are not easily predicted. This may be why the virus has not yet gained the ability to widely infect humans, some say. “Despite more than 50 human infections with bovine H5N1, we have not seen evidence of this virus adapting to humans on a larger scale,” Kawaoka said. “This suggests that ... additional mutations are likely required for the virus to become fully transmissible between humans.” Paulson acknowledged that the “context of the total biological picture is extremely important.” He said the research focused on just “one property that is important for the virus to be successful when adapting to a new host,” but there are others that may also be important. For instance, H5N1 in the past was known to cause severe respiratory disease. But recently, it’s mostly been associated with conjunctivitis and only occasionally with mild, upper respiratory disease in people. “Why is that? I don’t think anybody knows,” Paulson said. What is known is that the virus is moving swiftly through a variety of species around the globe — with ample opportunity to mutate and adapt. As of Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had confirmed H5N1 infections in 58 people: 35 as a result of working with infected dairy cows, 21 from infected poultry, and in two cases, the source is unknown. In addition, 707 dairy herds across 15 states have also been infected. And in just the last 30 days, 23 commercial poultry farms in California have come down with the virus — affecting more than 5.6 million birds. ©2024 Los Angeles Times. Visit at latimes.com . Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield makes major U-turn following the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Follow all the latest news and updates in the manhunt for UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's killer By JOE HUTCHISON FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 22:31 GMT, 5 December 2024 | Updated: 23:27 GMT, 5 December 2024 e-mail View comments Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield have reversed a policy change that would have seen them tie payments in some states to the length of time a patient went under anesthesia . The insurance company, which is one of the largest health insurance companies in the country, backtracked on the move following widespread outcry. Their decision came just a day after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot dead in Manhattan on Wednesday morning. In a statement the company said: 'To be clear, it never was and never will be the policy of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to not pay for medically necessary anesthesia services. 'The proposed update to the policy was only designed to clarify the appropriateness of anesthesia consistent with well-established clinical guidelines.' The company would have used 'physician work time values,' which is published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as the metric for anesthesia limits, with maternity patients and patients under the age of 22 were exempt. Last month, the American Society for Anesthesiologists called on Anthem to 'reverse the proposal immediately'. Thompson was named UnitedHealthcare CEO in 2021 and earned a reported $10 million a year, and for several years prior he ran the Medicare business within UnitedHealthcare. According to a release from United Healthcare on Tuesday, he would announce the company's hugely profitable 2025 financial outlook, including expected revenues upwards of $450 billion. UnitedHealthCare had hired security for their top executives with Thompson having his own security detail for the event who were absent when he was gunned down. As news of his assassination circulated on Wednesday morning, many major healthcare providers beefed up their personal protection for their top execs, according to CNN. Former Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz sparked outrage after she shared information and a picture of Blue Cross CEO Kim Keck online following the news. Lorenz insisted she posted the information on her social media page for people to write in to 'peacefully' to complain, adding: 'And people wonder why we want these execs dead.' Authorities say the gunman fled the scene on foot before then making a getaway on an electric bike into nearby Central Park. Surveillance footage of the shooting shows Thompson walking alone outside of the entrance to the midtown hotel when the gunman steps into frame and opens fire. The terrifying video shows the masked killer draw out a large gun and shoot Thompson in the back, sending the CEO stumbling down the street as he continues to fire. As the manhunt extended into its second day on Thursday, officers said they had searched Long Island Rail Road train the day previously after receiving a tip the killer was onboard. The tip turned out to be a dead-end, however law enforcement officials urged the public to continue offering tips to aid their ongoing manhunt. Investigators also believe that the killer left his personal phone at the scene, and not a burner as had been initially reported. Authorities also swooped on the HI New York City Hostel in Manhattan's Upper West Side where the suspect is believed to have stayed. He is thought to have stayed in the shared room facility on Tuesday evening, and checked in with a fake ID from New Jersey. The weapon used in the shooting is also now believed to have been a modern version of a rare World War II gun. Sources told The New York Post that detectives are focusing their efforts on a Connecticut gun store they believe sold the B&T VP9 gun. Detectives are now working to determine what the words mean and if they could possibly hint at a motive for the slaying of the 50-year-old. Thompson's family left a note on the door of their Minnesota mansion describing the exec as an 'incredibly loving, generous, talented man'. Newly appointed police commissioner Jessica Tisch said the shooter appeared to be 'lying in wait for several minutes' before approaching Thompson. Tisch added: 'Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target', and said that it did not 'appear to be a random act of violence'. Sore Loser: Former NSC Spox Michael Anton Said He Wouldn't Work with Sebastian Gorka

Military courts' verdicts announced in line with SC's judgment: FO

Brazil’s Federal Police formally accused former President Jair Bolsonaro and 36 others of plotting a coup d’état in 2022 to prevent then-president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from taking power. Among those indicted is Fernando Cerimedo, who served as Argentine President Javier Milei’s digital strategist in 2023. The Police confirmed on Thursday that it had concluded their investigations into “the violent abolition of the democratic rule of law” after two years. The final report was sent to the Federal Supreme Court with the indictment of 37 people for the crimes of violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, attempted coup d’état, and criminal organization. A spokesperson for the Police told the Herald that the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court will determine the next steps. Cerimedo’s charges According to Thursday’s communiqué, the plot included six coordinated sectors, including one for “disinformation and attacks on the electoral system” and another for “inciting the military to join the coup.” Cerimedo participated in spreading misinformation that led to riots in Brasilia, the investigation concluded. The accusation against Cerimedo is based on a livestream he hosted in November 2022 from Buenos Aires. He claimed that older ballot boxes favored Lula Da Silva during that broadcast. Close to 400,000 people saw the stream before Brazil’s Electoral Court demanded it be taken down. Cerimedo also said that the source code had inconsistencies, encouraging followers to remain in front of military barracks and other Armed Forces facilities. Cerimedo told the Herald the accusations were “total nonsense,” contending that police and the courts investigating were being “creative” and trying to bar Bolsonaro from participating in politics. He also said he urged people not to go to the government buildings during his livestreams, although he admitted that he told the protestors to “remain in the barracks.” “It will not succeed, and I am already taking action in international courts,” he said. He added that the case’s presiding judge, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, is under scrutiny by the U.S. Congress for “human rights violations.” He was referring to Republican representative María Elvira Salazar’s speech against the judge earlier this year. The coup attempt and the fallout On January 8, 2023, Bolsonaro supporters attacked three federal government buildings in Brasilia, demanding the military take power and depose Da Silva. But protests calling for intervention by the Armed Forces, including road blockades and encampments in front of army barracks, began as soon as Lula won the elections in October 2022. On December 24, a gas station manager placed explosives at the Brasilia Airport, according to his confession, hoping that the Armed Forces would authorize him “to take up arms and destroy communism.” As the judicial fallout from the attempted coup continues, Brazil’s Federal Police also arrested four military men and a police officer this week for allegedly plotting to poison Lula, vice president Geraldo Alckmin, and Moraes in 2022. Other people named in the investigation were lieutenant colonel and former Bolsonaro aide Mauro Cid, ex-cop and former Security Minister Anderson Torres, former spy chief Alexandre Ramagem, Army Majors Ângelo Martins Denicoli and Sérgio Cavaliere de Medeiros, and former Defense Ministers General Walter Braga Netto and General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira. The charges against Cerimedo are not the only recent development involving Argentina and the coup attempt. Last week, Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas requested the arrest of 61 Brazilians in Argentina who were convicted in Brazil for participating in the storming of government buildings. Two of them have already been detained and were put in preventive custody in La Plata, Buenos Aires province. Oziel Lara dos Santos, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison, told the Herald that the indictments are part of a “narrative without solid foundations, another smokescreen to hide the crimes, the unconstitutional absurdities they are committing.” “Soon the light of truth will dawn, and all this will be unmasked,” he added. He called Bolsonaro, who flew to the United States after losing his re-election bid, “a leader [who] loves the Brazilian people.”Trump convinced Republicans to overlook his misconduct. But can he do the same for his nominees? For the second straight Major League Baseball offseason, a norm-shattering contract has been the talk of the winter , with Juan Soto agreeing with the New York Mets on a $765 million, 15-year deal that's the richest in baseball history. It comes almost exactly one year after the Los Angeles Dodgers forked out a princely sum of $700 million on a 10-year, heavily deferred deal for two-way Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani. They are believed to be the two richest contracts in pro sports history. The way it's going, a contract approaching $1 billion doesn't seem out of the question. But several factors are working against it — at least in the near future. There's reason to believe the megadeals for Ohtani and Soto are unicorns in the baseball world. Both players are uniquely talented, surely, but both also had unusual circumstances propelling their value into the stratosphere. Ohtani is the greatest two-way player in baseball history, capable of improving any team on both sides of the ball. He's also the rare baseball player who has true international appeal . His every move ( like his unexpected marriage announcement ) is followed closely in his native Japan, adding another 125 million potential fans who buy merchandise, watch him play and help fill the Dodgers' coffers. Then there's Soto — a four-time All-Star and on-base machine who won a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019. The X-factor for him is he became a free agent at the prime age of 26, which is extremely hard to do under current MLB rules. Players have to be in the big leagues for six years before testing free agency. The precocious Soto debuted at 19 with the Nats, making him part of a rare group of players who reached the highest level of professional baseball as a teenager. That accelerated his free agency timeline. It's rare for players to debut that young, and rarer still for them to develop into stars and test the open market the first chance they get. Two recent examples are Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, who both reached free agency in 2019. Machado signed a free-agent record $300 million contract with San Diego, and Harper overtook him days later with a $330 million contract to join the Phillies. Most players debut in the big leagues from ages 22 to 26, which means free agency comes in their late 20s or early 30s. A typical example is Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, who is one of this generation's great players but didn't hit the market until he was 30. Judge played three seasons of college baseball for Fresno State before getting drafted by the Yankees in 2013 at age 21 — already two years older than Soto was when he made his MLB debut. It took a few years for the budding superstar to reach the majors, and he was 25 when he had his breakout season in 2018, smashing 52 homers to earn AL Rookie of the Year honors. By the time he reached free agency after the 2022 season, he had already passed age 30. It's a major factor that led to him signing a $360 million, nine-year deal with the Yankees, which seems downright reasonable these days after the Ohtani and Soto deals. Two major trends are colliding that will make it harder for guys like Soto to hit free agency in their mid 20s. First, MLB teams have been more likely in recent years to take college players early in the draft, betting on more experienced talents. Just 10 high school players were drafted among the top 30 picks in the 2024 draft . Second, teams are more eager to lock up young, premium talent on long-term deals very early in their careers, well before they hit free agency. Sometimes before they even reach the majors. Since Soto, just two players have debuted in MLB before their 20th birthday — Elvis Luciano and Junior Caminero. Luciano hasn't been back to the majors since his 2019 cup of coffee. Caminero is now 21 and has only played in 50 big league games. Among those that debuted at 20: Fernando Tatis Jr. signed a $340 million, 14-year deal with San Diego in 2021, years before reaching the open market. Milwaukee's Jackson Chourio got an $82 million, eight-year deal before even reaching the big leagues. Young stars Corbin Carroll ($111 million, eight years with Arizona), Bobby Witt Jr. ($288 million, 11 years with Kansas City) and Julio Rodriguez ($209.3 million, 12 years with Seattle) also got massive guarantees early in their 20s to forgo an early free agency. The exception and wild card: Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be a 26-year-old free agent next offseason. Guerrero hasn't been as consistent in his young career as Soto, but a standout 2025 season could position him to threaten Soto's deal. More likely is that the player to pass Soto isn't in the majors yet — and might not even be in pro baseball. When 25-year-old Alex Rodriguez signed his record $252 million, 10-year deal with Texas in 2001, it took over a decade for another player to match that total, when Albert Pujols got $240 million over 10 years from the Angels in 2012. For many players, passing up life-changing money in their early or mid 20s is too enticing, even if it means that they might not maximize their value on the free agent market later in their careers. Soto was determined to test the market. He famously turned down a $440 million, 15-year offer to stay with the Washington Nationals in 2022, betting that he could make even more as a free agent. Not many players would turn down that kind of cash. Then again, that's what makes Soto so unique. And it's also why his $765 million deal could be the industry standard for some time. 10 hot-ticket gifts we predict will sell out on Black Friday 2024

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos' usually stout defense has been rocked ever since losing second-year cornerback Riley Moss to an MCL injury against Las Vegas in Week 12. Without Moss there to capitalize on opponents shying away from star cornerback Patrick Surtain II, the Broncos (9-6) have had to largely abandon their preferred man coverage in favor of zone strategies and the results haven't been pretty. They allowed 32 points to the Cleveland Browns when former teammate Jerry Jeudy caught nine passes for a career-best 235 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown. Only Jonathan Taylor's fumble at the goal line as he was about to score a 41-yard touchdown and give Indianapolis a 20-3 lead saved the Broncos in Week 15 and allowed Denver to seize momentum and get the victory. They couldn't stop Justin Herbert , who led the Los Angeles Chargers back from a double-digit third-quarter deficit for a 34-27 win last week that prevented the Broncos from ending their eight-year playoff drought. It also put more pressure on the Broncos to win Saturday at Cincinnati, where the Bengals (7-8) cling to hopes of catching the Broncos and deny Denver a wild-card berth. Moss has enjoyed a breakout season in Denver with 71 tackles, eight pass breakups and an interception in 12 starts. He played in 14 games as a rotation player his rookie season after recovering from core muscle surgery that relegated him to special teams and spot duty in 2023. “We were and have been super excited" about the third-round pick out of Iowa, coach Sean Payton said. "Obviously, the guy that plays opposite of Patrick is going to get a lot of business. All throughout training camp, he really rose to the occasion, battled, competed and throughout really a good portion of the season. “He’s a big reason why we were playing so well defensively,” Payton added. "The sooner the better when we can get him back in the lineup. Hopefully it can happen this weekend.” In Moss' dozen starts, the Broncos allowed 16.8 points per game. Without him, they've been allowing 26.3 points a game. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase pose a bigger challenge to the Broncos than Jeudy and Jameis Wiston did for Cleveland or Herbert and Ladd McConkey did for the Chargers. Moss returned to practice last week and the Broncos will determine this week whether he's ready to return to the field or if it's better to keep him out until their season finale against Kansas City. The medial collateral ligament is on the inside of the knee that connects the thigh bone to the shin bone. It’s one of four major ligaments that stabilize the knee and allow it to rotate. It typically takes a month to recover from an MCL sprain and the Broncos had their bye week earlier this month, meaning Moss might only have to miss three games. If the Broncos reach the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50 in Hall of Famer Peyton Manning's last start, they'll likely need to have a healthy Moss opposite Surtain to have any realistic hopes of avoiding a one-and-done appearance. The Broncos got a scare when Surtain injured an ankle against Indianapolis two weeks ago and limped off the field in the closing minutes. However, he was a full-go at practice last week and had no issues against the Chargers. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl Copyright 2024 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Smith will now face Scott Williams, who moved through to his second televised ranking quarter-final with comeback victories over 2012 runner-up Kim Huybrechts and Sweden's Jeffrey de Graaf. Elsewhere, 2023 semi-finalist Ryan Joyce survived four match darts against Cameron Menzies before seeing off Martin Schindler 10-6 to maintain his impressive Minehead record to set up a quarter-final clash against Humphries. Joyce survived four match darts to win through a dramatic second-round tie against Cameron Menzies, before seeing off German number one Martin Schindler 10-6 in the last 16. Dirk van Duijvenbode continued his revival with resounding wins over Florian Hempel and Jermaine Wattimena to set up a last-eight clash against Connor Scutt, who eased past Mario Vandenbogaerde and 2018 champion Daryl Gurney to progress. Earlier in the day, world number three Michael Smith suffered a second-round exit against Gurney, with Dave Chisnall and Nathan Aspinall also crashing out at the same stage. Stream darts and more top sport with NOW .Every Black Friday, there’s a number of viral products that everyone has on their Christmas wish list, and we don’t expect this year to be any different. However, not all of these popular items are going to stay in stock, and we have some insight on the ones that won’t. Black Friday is big business, and last year shoppers spent $222.1 billion during the entire holiday shopping season, according to Queue-it. Sales on Black Friday reached $16.4 billion (online and in stores), and this was a 9% increase from the year before. While it comes as no surprise that electronics are the most sought-after products of the holiday season, Queue-it said this accounts for the majority of holiday sales, jumping to $50.8 billion in 2023. Apparel, furniture, groceries and toys are the other hot sellers of Black Friday. Together, these five categories accounted for 65% of sales during the holidays last year and is only expected to grow in 2024. While many items that sell out over Black Friday are driven by a good deal, we also know that a hot product is just that — a gift that most people want to open on Christmas Day. So, here are our picks for the top 10 hot-ticket items that could sell out over Black Friday. Samsung 98-inch QLED TV The holidays are ripe for TV deals, and we expect shoppers to buy a ton of them in 2024, especially at Walmart. Consumers are trending toward bigger TVs and the super low-price deals over Black Friday force many models to sell out. This is especially true of popular models from Samsung, Hisense, LG and more favorites. Apple Watch Series 9 Apple's smartwatches are a top pick among Apple fans. We’ve seen prices on the Apple Watch continue to trend downward, which was only spurred by the release of the new Apple Watch 10 in September. This pushed down prices on earlier models, with the best deals coming on the Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch 9. For Black Friday, we think the prices will drop even lower and sell out due to high demand. Beats Solo3 Wireless headphones are one of the most popular products of 2024, and Beats are one of the top brands. We’re already seeing big markdowns on Beats Wireless Headphones, and we expect these price drops to continue into Black Friday. The Beats Solo3 is likely to be on sale for even cheaper than we’ve already seen, and we think they will sell out for Black Friday, with the possibility of other popular Beats headphones joining them. Apple AirPods (3rd gen) If you haven’t picked up a pair of Apple AirPods yet, this could be your year to do it. With Apple launching a fourth generation of AirPods earlier this year, the price on prevvious models are creeping lower. We think over Black Friday they’ll be at their cheapest price ever, with the AirPods (3rd Gen) likely to sell out. JBL Flip 6 Bluetooth speakers are a must-have for many this year, and with the big sound that comes from JBL’s speakers, it’s easy to see why they might sell out for Black Friday. These popular speakers come in a variety of portable sizes and waterproof designs. We expect big deals on JBL’s top-rated Clip 5 and Flip 6 Bluetooth speaker models. Apple iPad (10th Gen) One of Apple’s most sought-after products of the year was the iPad, and we saw the 9th Gen and 10th Gen models drop to their lowest prices ever. We think this year will bring some iPad bliss with even better discounts, but these deals will disappear just as fast as they arrive. We think that mega discounts on the iPad (9th Gen) and iPad (10th Gen) could cause sell outs, especially on Amazon. Dyson Airwrap The Dyson Airwrap just might be the top product of Black Friday, as this is one of the rare times there’s a discount on the beloved hair styling tool. At $600, the Airwrap carries a hefty price tag, so any discount presented is a welcome surprise. But as we’ve seen in the past, any Black Friday deal on the Dyson Airwrap causes a crush of interest that’s followed by a sell out. Ugg Tasman slippers If you’ve tried to scoop up the UGG Tasman Slippers in previous years, you already know they never stay in stock for long. As the “it” slipper of the holiday season, UGG’s Tasman sells out multiple times over the holidays, even without a discount offered. We think that this year will be similar, with popular sizes and colors of the Tasman Slipper snatched up fast over Black Friday. Bissell Little Green The Bissell Little Green carpet cleaner is a popular home product that just can’t seem to stay in stock. With prices falling under $90, this mighty machine can be a blessing for pet owners and parents, as its compact size makes it easy to store and use when needed. We’ve seen the Little Green Machine sell out before, and we’d be surprised if it didn’t do it again over Black Friday. Furby Galaxy Edition We’d be remiss if we didn’t include a top toy that we think will be hard to find and gift this year. Our pick is the Furby Galaxy Edition. This glow-in-the-dark Furby is based on the original Furby from the late ’90s with even more features, interactive modes and more fun. Making a comeback in 2023, we saw the revival of this popular toy sell out last year, and we expect the new Furby Galaxy Edition to do the same. John Kavanagh wants to give you a tool to do something about that. And what the Fountain Hills Republican is proposing even could net you a $5,000 reward. SB 1036 seeks to expand existing laws that make it illegal for cities to use taxpayer dollars to convince voters to cast their ballots a certain way. Ditto counties, school districts and special districts that are seeking approval to borrow money. Those laws, however, depend on the attorney general or county attorneys to bring such claims. If Kavanagh's measure passes, that same right would extend to any resident. Plus, there's also a sweetener that might help spur someone to act. If an individual files suit and wins the case, the offending public official has to pay back the improperly spent public monies from his or her own pocket. That's already in the law. So is a provision allowing a judge to impose a separate penalty of up to $5,000. What's new, though, is if the lawsuit is initiated by a resident, those penalties go to that person. Kavanagh said the system of enforcing the laws on use of public monies to influence elections does work — but only when state or county prosecutors take an interest. "The problem is that ordinary people, if they think there's a problem, and AGs and (county) attorneys won't do it, have no avenue to have a court review it,'' he said. And Kavanagh said there are reasons that either might not wish to get involved. Some of it, he said, might be the prosecutors lack the resources to launch and pursue a probe. But Kavanagh said there might be another factor at work, noting that both offices are run by partisan elected officials. "Because it is political, the county attorney or AG doesn't want to get involved when they should,'' he said. "So this allows ordinary citizens to pick up the gauntlet, so to speak.'' So what's the problem that needs to be solved? Kavanagh said cities and towns are regularly accused of putting their finger on the scale when it comes to promoting things like borrowing authority. "Most people are concerned when a government entity spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on mailer and sends them out with very biased information on it,'' he said. There was such a controversy in the November election in Gilbert where voters were asked to approve Propositions 497 and 498. The first proposed a permanent increase in the town's expenditure limit base. The second sought approval for the town to accumulate funds for capital projects without violating a state-imposed expenditure cap. State law does allow local governments to publish informational pamphlets and other materials on upcoming ballot measures if they "present factual information in a neutral manner.'' But Gilbert also produced a video which details why both are needed — and in a way that the Goldwater Institute, in a letter to Mayor Brigette Peterson, charged was is unfair. "After telling voters they could vote 'no' the video goes on to list the negatives — and only the negatives — of voting no on the measures, like the inability to fund certain projects and delayed repairs,'' wrote attorney Adam Shelton. "The video does not present any argument against the propositions,'' he continued. "There is no mention of the benefits that will result from voting 'no' on the measures. This video is neither impartial nor neutral and is therefore prohibited electioneering.'' But under the current law, all the Goldwater Institute could do was refer the matter to the county attorney who never pursued the matter. And voters ended up approving both measures. Kavanagh said this kind of situation is not unique. "I've seen a lot of informational flyers sent out by government entities, especially when it deals with bond elections, that if not crossing the line they're really pushing it,'' he said. The senators said he's not concerned that having private citizens empowered to sue local governments — and potentially spurred on by the chance of a financial windfall — will lead to a host of lawsuits with little or no merit. He said there are rules in Arizona courts that allow judges to impose sanctions for "frivolous'' lawsuits, including ordering the party that sued to pay the legal fees of the individual or entity sued. There is some precedent for what Kavanagh wants to do — especially with the idea of rewarding people who take action against illegal or wasteful government spending. It's known as a "qui tam'' action, referring to situations where someone files suit on his or her own behalf as well as that of the government. Most notable is a provision in the federal False Claim Act that authorizes qui tam actions against parties who have defrauded the federal government. If successful, the party who began the action may recover up to 30% of what the government recovers. Among the kinds of cases that have been brought are defense contractor fraud, healthcare billing irregularities, kickbacks and "upcoding,'' the last referring to practices by medical providers who code a patient's condition and the treatment provided when billing Medicare or Medicaid as a more expensive diagnosis than what was actually performed. Scott Barnes Reflects On Impressive SeasonENGLEWOOD, Colo. Telus vs. Verizon: Which Dividend Stock Looks Better for 2025?Slain UnitedHealth Executive Puts Focus on CEO Safety Policy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams keep doing just enough to win, and a team that appeared to be rebuilding this season has climbed all the way to the brink of another playoff berth. The Rams improved to 9-6 and took control of the NFC West on Sunday with their fourth straight victory since Thanksgiving. Their 19-9 win over the New York Jets in sub-freezing temperatures was not dominant — they trailed 9-6 entering the fourth quarter, and they were outgained by nearly 100 yards — but Los Angeles still matched its largest margin of victory this season and continued to look like a looming nightmare for any postseason opponent. The Rams have now won eight of 10 since their bye week, when they were 1-4 and the NFL world wondered whether they would trade Super Bowl MVP receiver Cooper Kupp or even quarterback Matthew Stafford to spur their roster reboot. Los Angeles decided not to punt its season, and Sean McVay's team has driven from last to first. “You don’t want to ride the emotional roller coaster that these games can take you on,” McVay said Monday. “You do have the ability to stay steady, to stay the course and try to right the ship. Certainly that’s not complete by any stretch, but our guys have done an excellent job of not allowing the way that we started, especially in those first five games, to affect what we did coming off that bye.” The Rams also have clinched their seventh winning record in eight regular seasons under McVay — an achievement that shouldn’t get lost in the recent successes of a franchise that had 13 consecutive non-winning seasons before it rolled the dice and hired a 30-year-old head coach back in 2017. After winning it all in February 2022 and then having the worst season by a defending Super Bowl champion in NFL history, the Rams have made the most of their time in between true powerhouse status and a major rebuild. They also started slowly last year, entering their bye at 3-6 before a 7-1 finish. The Rams can become the first team in NFL history to make back-to-back postseason appearances after being three games under .500 each year. These Rams don't stand out on either side of the ball, although their talent level appears to be higher on offense than defense. Instead, they've mastered a delicate balance of complementary football — the offense and defense covering each other's weaknesses and setting up their teammates for success. The Rams have scored more than 30 points just once all season, and they managed only 31 points in their last two games combined. Their defense has allowed only one touchdown in the past two games — but right before that, Josh Allen and the Bills racked up 42 points and 445 yards in the most recent of a few defensive stinkers from LA this season. The Rams keep winning anyway, and now they can clinch McVay's fourth NFC West title by beating Seattle in two weeks. “Fortunately, we’re in a position where you don’t necessarily have to rely on other things to happen if you just handle your business,” McVay said. Kyren Williams and the offensive line are driving the Rams' offense. After a slow start caused partly by McVay being forced to abandon the running game when the Rams repeatedly fell behind early, the 2023 Pro Bowler has surged to career highs of 1,243 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns with his 122-yard performance in New York. Stafford's 110 yards passing were his fewest with the Rams and the second-fewest in his 16-year career from a full game. Sunday's weather was a major factor, but the Rams must throw the ball effectively to somebody other than Puka Nacua. Kupp has just 193 yards receiving in his past five games combined. Defensive back Jaylen McCollough made a career-high nine tackles in only 31 snaps. The undrafted rookie continues to be a remarkable find, earning playing time alongside veteran safeties Quentin Lake and Kam Curl and fellow rookie Kam Kinchens. CB Cobie Durant didn't play for the second straight week despite being cleared to return from his bruised lung. Veteran Ahkello Witherspoon got every snap in place of Durant, who started LA's first 13 games. McVay praised Witherspoon's recent play when asked why Durant didn't get on the field in New Jersey. The Rams' improved health, particularly on both lines, is the key to their surge. McVay reported no new injuries out of the road trip following Tyler Higbee's successful season debut. 12-1 — The Rams’ record in December with Stafford as their starter over his four years in LA. The Rams need to win at least one of their final two games to wrap up their first NFC West crown since 2021. They host eliminated Arizona on Saturday night, but can't clinch the division unless the Seahawks lose to moribund Chicago. The Rams are currently the NFC's third seed, but that doesn't matter a whole lot because both the third and fourth seeds will have to play one of the NFC North's two powerful wild-card teams in the opening round.
