(AP) — Mariah Keopple and Alexandra Labelle scored their first goals of the season and the Montreal Victoire edged the Minnesota Frost 3-2 on Saturday. Marie-Philip Poulin's goal almost six minutes into the second period was the difference as she converted a 2-on-1 from Laura Stacey and Jennifer Gardiner and Montreal (2-2-0-1), which went 0 for 3 on the power play, won its third straight while handing Minnesota (3-1-1-1) its first regulation loss of the season. Despite having the better control of the action from the start Montreal fell behind 1-0 near the middle of the first period when Claire Thompson and Taylor Heise set up Britta Curl-Salemme for her third goal of the season. But in the last five minutes of the period Keopple scored on a pass from Claire Dalton, and Labelle banged in a rebound of her initial shot. Minnesota pulled into a tie at just 3:17 into the second period when Brooke McQuigge picked up her first goal during a scramble in front of the Montreal goal. Barely 2 1/2 minutes later the Victoire were back on top on Poulin's second goal of the season and Ann-Renee Desbiens, who made 22 saves, made that stand up. THE ENDLESS SCROLLING through your streaming service of choice can make choosing a film at Christmas feel as stressful as a day at the office. So here’s a bit of help for selecting a flick this year – no matter what your taste. Shaun the Sheep Movie Introduce your little ones to the joy of the animated 2015 movie Shaun the Sheep, which is a cute but laugh-out-loud treat. In it, Shaun and his friends need to go to the big city to rescue their farmer – and disguise themselves as they go. Slapstick-a-plenty awaits. The Net Head back to the days when social media was but a glint in Mark Zuckerberg’s eye with this 1995 film starring a young Sandra Bullock. She plays a computer programmer who gets unwittingly embroiled in a conspiracy and has to use the internet to hack her way to freedom. Though technology has moved on, this is still a very compelling thriller and shows why Bullock has had such a great career. Planes Trains and Automobiles Funnymen Steve Martin and John Candy team up for this extremely 80s movie (it’s from 1987) about two complete opposites who get stuck on a long journey to Chicago together at Christmas. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. Spy One of the funniest films of the 2000s, this 2015 movie sees Melissa McCarthy play an unassuming CIA operative who spends her days at her desk. But when the agent she works with (played by Jude Law) goes missing, she’s forced to take a trip out into the field, with hilarious results. Watch out for brilliant comedic turns by Rose Byrne and a hilarious Jason Statham. The Intern ( ) Robert DeNiro makes a surprise – but sweet – appearance in this 2015 Nancy Meyers film about an older man who becomes an intern in an office full of young people. Anne Hathaway plays his boss, and the two form an unlikely friendship. Like many Meyers films, this is by turns cute and poignant. Good Grief Be prepared to have a lil’ cry watching this 2023 movie. Dan Levi plays a London-based American who loses his husband Oliver (Luke Evans) unexpectedly. Can he get through grief, and deal with some unexpected revelations about his late husband, with a little help from his friends? You probably know the answer, but you’ll enjoy the process of finding out. La Chimera Josh O’Connor stars as Arthur, a down-at-heel Englishman in Italy who gets involved with a group of grave robbers. This strange and wonderful 2024 film, directed by Alice Rohrwacher, feels a little magical as it explores grief and its impact on people. Plus, O’Connor speaks Italian throughout, the film stars Isabella Rossellini. Many reasons to watch this. The Taste of Things This gently unfolding 2023 film is set in 1899 and stars Juliette Binoche as a cook called Eugénie who works for a gourmet named Dodin (Benoît Magimel).... and Dodin might be in love with her. But can he woo her with delicious food? You’ll be hungry after watching this. The Florida Project You might have seen one of this year’s biggest films, Anora, directed by Sean Baker. One of his previous films, The Florida Project (2017), is on Mubi. It’s about a spirited young girl called Moonee (Brooklynn Prince) who lives in a motel near Disneyland which is run by a man named Bobby (Willem Dafoe). Though Moonee is having fun, her life is lived on the margins. Bottoms Not a film for all the family, but definitely one for those who like a sassy, cheeky (and a little bit violent) Gen Z LGBT 2023 movie. Ayo Edebiri and Rachel Sennott star as two messy students who start a fight club in their school, with the aim of losing their virginity. Also has a funny turn from Nicholas Galitizine as a dopey high school football player. The Santa Clause This film is 30 years old but is still great craic to watch. Tim Allen stars as a man who has to unexpectedly and unwittingly take on the role of Santa Clause. He doesn’t want the job, but soon he has a grey beard growing and his clothes are getting tight...JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s attorney general has ordered police to open an investigation into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife on suspicion of harassing political opponents and witnesses in the Israeli leader’s corruption trial. The Israeli Justice Ministry made the announcement in a terse message late Thursday., saying the investigation would focus on the findings of a recent report by the “Uvda” investigative program into Sara Netanyahu. The Prairie Holiday Loppet made its long-awaited return to Winnipeg’s Windsor Park Saturday, with dozens of racers hitting the trails. A loppet is a Scandinavian cross-country skiing event that sees a large group of people ski together on groomed trails. After a soggy winter season last year, organizer Murray Carter was happy the event could make a comeback. “Because we had a little bit of a melt yesterday, we ended up shoveling for nine hours,” Carter said. “Four of us shoveled for nine hours to make this trail a great success, and it turned out perfect.” Carter said the event sees people come from across the country, most of which are visiting loved ones for the holidays. “It’s about a festive experience,” he said. Participants ranged from beginners to veteran athletes. Olympic cyclist Leah Kirchmann put her bike away and broke out her cross-country skis for Saturday’s event. Kirchmann said she grew up taking part in cross-country skiing races and decided to get back into the sport. “This is really where I got my start in sport,” she said. While Kirchmann said she doesn’t plan on competing in the Winter Olympic Games anytime soon, she is coaching cycling for the next generation of athletes. She also emphasized the community aspect of the event, allowing her and others to see new faces and connect with old ones. Meantime, Carter encouraged more people to get involved. “Get out. Get some skis. Rent some skis at Windsor Park, try out,” he said. “There's nothing like the winter and getting outside in the winter and enjoying the sunshine, enjoying the snow “That in itself is a reward."
KEY POINTS Leading blockchain security auditor Hacken has launched a next-generation AI-powered platform, Extractor, that will automate security and compliance for Web3 companies, covering some of the most critical aspects of compliance such as AML/CFT (anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing), the European Union's MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation), DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act), and ADGM (Abu Dhabi Global Market) Standards. Extractor offers companies with a scalable and highly-efficient solutions for various business segments and regulators, at a time when global regulations are tightening and standards like MiCA and DORA are gradually reshaping the world of cryptocurrency business operations. What is Extractor? Hacken's Extractor is a monitoring platform that crypto companies can use to ensure that they are always up-to-date with the latest and emerging compliance requirements. Launched Tuesday, the platform is available for use on major blockchains such as Ethereum, Optimism, Binance Smart Chain, Gnosis, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Avalanche, and more. Extractor is the first-of-its kind Compliance Monitoring Framework for Web3 projects. It simplifies the process of adhering to regulatory standards and unlike other existing solutions, the platform combines AML/CFT, TVL (total value locked) analysis, transaction tracking, and detection of circulating supply into a structured compliance approach. Threat actors will always exist in every industry, but with the Hacken Extractor, continuous protection and operational resilience is ensured as it integrates real-time threat detection, post-incident reporting, and automated safeguards. "We developed Extractor to address the critical need for proactive monitoring and compliance in the crypto space. Combining real-time on-chain analysis, AI-powered risk detection, and automated safeguards enables projects to meet strict regulatory requirements while mitigating security risks," Hacken Co-founder and CEO Dyma Budorin said in a press release shared with International Business Times . Compliance to be a Major Cornerstone of Crypto Starting 2025 The cryptocurrency community is well aware that 2025 will change everything for the industry. In particular, compliance with AML/CFT standards is set to become a global standard. "Beginning Jan. 17, 2025, DORA's requirements will become enforceable. Non-compliance can result in severe penalties, such as fines of up to 2% of the total annual worldwide turnover or 1% of the average daily global turnover. Operating without compliance is no longer an option for entities serving EU customers," said Valentyna Kondratenko, Hacken's legal counsel. With the Extractor, crypto companies can rest assured that they will meet global compliance standards that pack risk detection, advanced monitoring, asset protection, and incident recovery planning into a standalone tool. Aside from the high-security features and necessary monitoring integrations, the platform also provides thorough post-incident root cause analysis and reporting, which is critical in giving crypto projects the proactive ability to improve their systems' resilience and address vulnerabilities over time. Incoming Compliance Regulations Governments and regulators are continuously working on evolving the rules for digital assets and blockchain technology. With parts of the comprehensive MiCA framework already enforced, more compliance requirements are coming. Hacken's Extractor, which has a structured framework, ensures that crypto service providers are ready for compliance at every stage of risk management. It represents Hacken's expertise in blockchain security auditing and also reflects its collaborative efforts with some of the most prominent regulatory bodies worldwide.
