The iconic Birkin bag, debuted by French fashion house Hermès in 1984, has long been a symbol of luxury and exclusivity. Named after actress and singer Jane Birkin , the bag is handcrafted and produced in limited numbers, due to its high price tag. Depending on its model and condition, a genuine Birkin bag can sell anywhere from $18,000 to $225,000 on resale platforms such as Wrist Aficionado, cementing its status as a coveted fashion accessory for the wealthy elite. However, a new twist has emerged in the world of luxury fashion, as a convincing dupe of the Birkin bag has gone viral. Available on W almart .com for under $100, the lookalike leather bag has garnered significant attention, particularly among fashion enthusiasts who admire the style of the Birkin but cannot or choose not to afford the authentic version. Despite the sharp contrast in price, the dupe is said to resemble the luxurious original, providing a much more budget-friendly option for those desiring the high-end aesthetic. The viral success of this affordable alternative has ignited an ongoing debate online, as shoppers flock to Walmart to secure their own version of the bag. Unfortunately, due to high demand, the lookalike bags are currently sold out, but eager buyers can check back on the retailer’s website in hopes of new stock being added. The incident highlights the growing trend of "dupe" culture in the fashion industry, where consumers are increasingly seeking affordable alternatives to high-end, designer items. As fashion enthusiasts continue to debate the merits of designer dupes versus original pieces, it is clear that the market for affordable alternatives to high-end luxury items is rapidly expanding. Whether the viral Birkin bag dupe will remain a fleeting trend or become a permanent fixture in the world of fashion remains to be seen. The AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll is back every week throughout the season! LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Andrej Jakimovski converted an off-balance layup with 8 seconds left, and Colorado handed No. 2 UConn its second loss in two days at the Maui Invitational, beating the two-time defending national champion 73-72 on Tuesday. A day after a 99-97 overtime loss to Memphis that left Huskies coach Dan Hurley livid about the officiating, UConn (4-2) couldn’t shake the unranked Buffaloes (5-1), who shot 62.5% in the second half. With Colorado trailing 72-71 in the closing seconds, Jakimovski drove to his right and absorbed contact from UConn’s Liam McNeeley. He tossed the ball toward the glass and the shot was good as he fell to the floor. Hassan Diarra missed a 3-pointer just ahead of the buzzer for UConn. Elijah Malone and Julian Hammond III scored 16 points each for Colorado, and Jakimovski had 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Huskies led 40-32 at halftime and by nine points early in the second half, but Colorado quickly closed that gap. McNeeley led UConn with 20 points. Takeaways UConn: Hurley’s squad is facing its first adversity in quite a while. The Huskies arrived on Maui with a 17-game winning streak that dated to February. Colorado: The Buffaloes were held to season lows in points (56) and field goal percentage (37%) in a 16-point loss to Michigan State on Monday but shot 51.1% overall and 56.3% (9 of 16) from 3-point range against the Huskies. Key moment Hurley called timeout to set up the Huskies’ final possession, but the Buffs forced them to take a contested 3. Key stat Colorado had a 28-26 rebounding advantage after being out-rebounded 42-29 by Michigan State. Up next Colorado plays No. 5 Iowa State in the fifth-place game Wednesday. While many European nations boast significant wealth , one country stands out. The UK is recognised as one of the wealthiest countries in Europe, yet it lags behind the leader of the pack. Germany officially holds the title of Europe's richest country, with an impressive GDP of $4.46 trillion in 2023. This figure surpasses the combined economies of the UK and Spain, which stand at $3.34 trillion and just over $1 trillion respectively. On a global scale, Germany ranks as the third-largest economy, trailing only the US and China. GDP, or Gross Domestic Product, serves as an indicator of a country's economic health and size over a specific period, typically a quarter or year. It's determined by summing up the monetary value of all final goods and services produced within a country's borders. Germany's robust economy is fuelled by a blend of manufacturing, innovation, and services. The nation is renowned for its exports, particularly cars, chemicals, and industrial machinery. However, Germany's economy isn't solely reliant on large industries; it also hosts the "Mittelstand" - a collection of small to medium-sized businesses, many of which are family-owned, reports the Express . These firms excel in their respective fields, earning the moniker "hidden champions" and accounting for nearly half of the global market leaders in their sectors. Germany's commitment to green energy has transformed it into a global sustainability frontrunner. The nation's significant investment in "Energiewende," or the energy transition, is now powering nearly half its electricity needs with renewables, earning it the status of being the world's first major renewable energy economy. Additionally, attracting investors with its central European location and a stellar reputation for research and innovation, Germany invests over 3% of its GDP in R&D, fuelling progress across various sectors including technology and eco-friendly power. Key financial centers such as Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich aid economic activity, with Frankfurt notably housing the European Central Bank. Moreover, Germany holds a commanding presence in the trade fair industry, hosting two-thirds of the globe's premier events across cities like Cologne, Hanover, and Düsseldorf. Economic growth expectations predict a minor downturn in 2024 owing to decreased global demand, yet forecasts see a rebound from 2025 driven by rising wages and robust local spending.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Syracuse coach Fran Brown and Washington State acting coach Pete Kaligis shared a heartfelt hug after their Holiday Bowl news conference on Thursday. Kaligis can certainly use all the support he can get, especially an embrace and some encouraging words from the opposing coach. No. 22 Syracuse (9-3, No. 21 CFP), led by national passing leader Kyle McCord, is a 17-point favorite according to BetMGM in Friday night's Holiday Bowl against the depleted Cougars (8-4), whose season has nosedived since mid-November. After beating future Pac-12 opponent San Diego State 29-26 on Oct. 26 at Snapdragon Stadium, coach Jake Dickert, quarterback John Mateer and the rest of the Cougars were 7-1 and about to jump into The Associated Press Top 25. Now the Cougars are barely recognizable as they return to Snapdragon. Dickert was hired away by Wake Forest, Mateer transferred to Oklahoma and running back Wayshawn Parker left for Utah. Numerous coaches, including the offensive and defensive coordinators, are gone, and more than 20 players have entered the transfer portal. The Cougars, who lost their last three games, are a prime example of how college football's rapidly changing landscape can dramatically affect a program. “Going into the ins-and-outs of the game tomorrow doesn’t matter,” Kaligis said. “We are who we are, we have what we have. I know that’s for both of us.” Kaligis said players who entered the portal after Dickert left can suit up Friday night. “I know we came here with 98 guys. That's who we’re going to show up on the field with.” Kaligis said relationships between players and coaches are more important than ever, even if there's less time to develop trust “and coach them the right way.” “When a staff (member) leaves and guys get in the portal, it’s because of the relationships they have garnered with their position coaches. When that position coach isn’t guaranteed he’s going to be there, that’s who that young man trusts,” Kaligis said. “I’ve been doing this for a long time," he added. "What’s been hard for me, I spent 13 years at Wyoming, I saw three graduating classes. I remember I was the longest-tenured coach there. To see them all the way through. When I came to Wazzu, I was their fourth D-line coach." The Cougs improved to 8-1 by beating Utah State 49-28 on Nov. 9 but then lost three straight, including to Oregon State in the de facto championship game between the two teams left in the Pac-12. They also lost to New Mexico and Wyoming, two of the Mountain West teams that weren't invited to join the reconstituted Pac-12 starting in 2026. McCord, who transferred from Ohio State, rewrote the Orange's record book this season with 4,326 yards passing, 29 touchdowns and 367 completions. He's well within range of breaking Deshaun Watson's ACC single-season record of 4,593, which he set in 15 games in 2016. A win will give Syracuse 10 wins for the first time since 2018 and just the third time since 2000. Brown can become the second Syracuse coach since World War II to record 10 wins in his first season, joining Paul Pasqualoni, who did it in 1991. In their final regular-season game, the Orange rallied from a 21-0 deficit for a 42-38 win against then-No. 6 Miami that knocked the Hurricanes out of ACC title contention and ended their College Football Playoff hopes. McCord threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns. “We want to go out and have a good game,” Brown said. “We have an opportunity of winning 10 games, which means you’re starting to become a successful program, right? Our players haven’t had a chance of winning a bowl game. So there’s a lot of things that are on the line for us to really be able to build our program and being able to move forward.” This will be the teams' second meeting.
