WNBA Fans Are Drooling Over Kelsey Plum's Racy Photop.88

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Mike McDaniel has seen a change in quarterback Tua Tagovailoa over the past month. “He's found a way to improve the way he plays the position throughout the game,” the Dolphins coach said Sunday, after Tagovailoa threw for four touchdowns in a dominant 34-15 win over the New England Patriots. “The most monumental thing that you have to overcome as a quarterback is playing the position regardless of the ebbs and flows," McDaniel added, "so not changing how you play based upon positive or negative results and letting every play stand on its own.” Tagovailoa has mastered that ability to remain even-keeled during Miami's three-game winning streak, McDaniel noted, highlighted by his 317-yard passing performance on Sunday. The Dolphins (5-6) have a thin margin for error the rest of the season but have kept themselves afloat with a strong stretch that includes two-straight 30-point games. With their win at New England (3-9) in Week 5, the Dolphins have swept their division rivals in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1999-2000. Tagovailoa, who moved to 7-0 in his career against New England, entered the game with a league-high 73.4% completion rate and went 29 for 40. He has 11 passing touchdowns and just one interception since returning from injured reserve in Week 8. “We’re still below the .500 threshold, and it’s a long way to where we want to get to," Tagovailoa said. “We’ll enjoy this win, but this next one is going to be big for us.” The Dolphins have a short turnaround with a game at Green Bay on Thursday. Backup Skylar Thompson replaced Tagovailoa with about 11 minutes left in what was already a blowout, but a bad handoff on his first play resulted in a fumble that was recovered by cornerback Christian Gonzalez and returned 63 yards for a touchdown. It cut New England's deficit to 31-15, and Tagovailoa returned the next drive. Miami's defense held the rest of the way. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson intercepted rookie quarterback Drake Maye on New England's penultimate drive, then Miami stopped the Patriots on fourth down on the next. Jaylen Waddle caught eight passes for a season-high 144 yards and a 23-yard touchdown that stretched Miami's lead to 31-0 entering the fourth. Running back De'Von Achane scored on a 9-yard screen pass and then walked into the end zone for an 11-yard TD in the first half. Jonnu Smith finished with 87 yards on nine catches to continue his strong first season as a Dolphin. One week after catching two touchdowns with a career-high 101 yards receiving, Smith found the end zone for a 7-yard TD catch on the Dolphins' second drive. New England was shut out until tight end Austin Hooper got behind the Dolphins defense for a wide-open 38-yard touchdown catch from Maye to make it 31-7 with 13:43 left. Maye completed 22 of 37 passes for 221 yards with 26 yards rushing. But he couldn't overcome an overall sloppy performance by the Patriots in which they got nothing going offensively until the final quarter and had 10 penalties accepted against them. “I always say I hate losing more than I like to win," Maye said. "We got our butts whipped today, and it’s only up from here. We’ve got a bright future and the right players in there for the Patriots.” New England's best drive of the first half lasted 12 plays and covered 80 yards but included three accepted offensive penalties and ended in a missed 45-yard field goal by Joey Slye. The Patriots forced a Dolphins punt and moved down the field again on the opening drive of the second half, with Maye completing an improvised 10-yard throw on third down to receiver Kendrick Bourne. New England then tried a double pass with Bourne, whose cross-field throw fell short of Rhamondre Stevenson on 3rd-and-17. DeMario Douglas led the Patriots with 61 yards receiving. Antonio Gibson had six rushes for 30 yards. With the loss, the Patriots will finish their third straight season below .500. Its the first time since 1991-93 New England has had three straight losing seasons. “Once those guys cross the white lines, there’s nothing I can do for them,” coach Jerod Mayo said. "There’s nothing any coach can do for them. It’s my job to continue to prepare not only them, but our coaches as well.” Dolphins: LB Anthony Walker Jr. sustained a noncontact hamstring injury in the second quarter. He was helped slowly off the field by trainers and did not return. Patriots: Host Indianapolis next Sunday. Dolphins: At Green Bay on Thursday. Share Tweet Share Share Email The crypto market has once again become the talk of the town, buzzing with opportunities for new and seasoned investors alike. But with thousands of coins to choose from, finding the best coins to join this month can feel like a daunting task. Fear not! After careful analysis, we’ve uncovered five incredible projects that are transforming the blockchain space and promise to deliver exceptional returns. From tackling real-world challenges to offering groundbreaking innovations, these coins are guaranteed to make waves. 1. Qubetics: Transforming Financial Independence with a Revolutionary Non-Custodial Wallet Qubetics stands tall among the rising stars in the blockchain arena. Its non-custodial wallet is a game-changer, addressing major issues like security risks, dependency on third parties, and privacy concerns. Traditional wallets often rely on centralised entities, exposing users to security breaches, regulatory interference, and limited access to funds. For investors, this dependency can be frustrating and dangerous, especially during volatile market conditions. Qubetics’ non-custodial wallet eliminates these risks by giving users full control over their digital assets. With analysts predicting Qubetics’ value to soar to $10-$15 after its mainnet launch, the project is poised for massive growth. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the best coins to join this month , as it empowers users to take control of their financial freedom while leveraging blockchain technology’s full potential. 2. Bitcoin: The Timeless Crypto King That Never Fails to Deliver No list of top coins is complete without mentioning Bitcoin. As the first and most widely recognised cryptocurrency, Bitcoin continues to dominate the market with its unmatched security, decentralisation, and store-of-value features. Bitcoin’s fixed supply of 21 million coins ensures scarcity, making it an attractive option for investors looking to hedge against inflation. Its adoption as “digital gold” by both individuals and institutions further cements its position as a reliable investment choice. With the market consistently rallying behind Bitcoin during times of uncertainty, it remains one of the best coins to join this month, offering a mix of stability and long-term growth potential. 3. Solana: Speed and Scalability Redefined in the Blockchain Ecosystem For those who value speed and scalability, Solana has become a top contender in the crypto market. The network’s lightning-fast transaction speeds and ultra-low fees make it an attractive option for developers building decentralised applications and platforms. Unlike many blockchains that struggle with congestion and high gas fees, Solana’s unique architecture allows it to process thousands of transactions per second without compromising security or decentralisation. This efficiency has made it a hub for DeFi projects and NFT marketplaces. With its growing ecosystem and strong community support, Solana is undoubtedly one of the best coins to join this month, offering both innovation and growth opportunities. 4. Cardano: A Visionary Blockchain Built for a Sustainable Future Cardano continues to make waves with its eco-friendly and research-driven approach to blockchain development. By focusing on scalability, security, and sustainability, Cardano aims to address the limitations of older blockchains while driving mass adoption. The platform’s Ouroboros consensus algorithm not only reduces energy consumption but also ensures robust network security. Its layered architecture enables seamless upgrades, paving the way for a thriving ecosystem of decentralised applications. For investors looking for a project with long-term potential and a commitment to responsible innovation, Cardano is one of the best coins to join this month. Its steady growth and focus on solving real-world problems make it a standout choice. 5. Polkadot: Bridging Blockchains for a Truly Decentralised Future Polkadot is rewriting the rules of blockchain interoperability by enabling seamless communication between different networks. Its parachain architecture allows independent blockchains to operate within the Polkadot ecosystem, fostering collaboration and innovation. This unique approach addresses a critical issue in the crypto space: the lack of interconnectedness between blockchains. By creating a unified network, Polkadot makes it easier for developers to build scalable, efficient applications while offering users a seamless experience. With its innovative technology and expanding use cases, Polkadot has secured its place as one of the best coins to join this month , offering investors a front-row seat to the next evolution of blockchain technology. Final Thoughts The crypto market is teeming with opportunities, but finding the right projects is key to maximising returns. From Qubetics’ revolutionary non-custodial wallet to Bitcoin’s unparalleled reliability, Solana’s speed, Cardano’s sustainability, and Polkadot’s interoperability, these five coins represent the cream of the crop. This month presents an ideal time to jump in and secure your stake in these promising projects. As blockchain technology continues to evolve, these coins are set to drive the next wave of innovation and growth. Don’t miss your chance to join the best coins to join this month and position yourself for future success. Ahead of Malik’s encore during the Saturday, November 23, show at the O2 Academy in Leeds, the lights flickered off and back on. When the power returned, a memorial graphic was shown on the wall. “Liam Payne 1993-2024,” the sign read. “Love you bro ❤️ .” According to additional fan footage , Malik’s song “Stardust” played in the background. Malik, 31, and Payne met as two-fifths of British boy band One Direction alongside Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles . Malik was the first to leave the group , announcing his exit in March 2015. The remaining 1D lads went on their own indefinite hiatus in January 2016. Nearly eight years later, Payne died at the age of 31 after suffering a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. Malik and the other 1D singers offered their condolences via heartfelt social media tributes. “Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there are so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” Malik wrote via Instagram on October 17. “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. The musicians were spotted entering St Mary’s Church separately, all accompanied by former tour manager Paul Higgins . Their cars even featured the bat signal in a subtle tribute to Payne, who was a fan of the Batman franchise. Payne is survived by parents Geoff and Karen , older sisters Ruth and Nicola and 7-year-old son Bear. The late “Teardrops” singer shared his only child with ex Cheryl Cole , who also attended the funeral alongside Payne’s family.

Police arrested a 26-year-old man on Monday in the Manhattan killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO after they say a Pennsylvania McDonald's worker alerted authorities to a customer who resembled the suspected gunman. The suspect, identified by police as Luigi Nicholas Mangione, had a gun believed to be the one used in Wednesday’s attack on Brian Thompson , as well as writings expressing anger at corporate America, police said. Here are some of the latest developments in the ongoing investigation: Mangione was taken into custody at around 9:15 a.m. after police received a tip that he was eating at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, about 85 miles (137 kilometers) east of Pittsburgh, police said. Mangione was being held in Pennsylvania on gun charges and will eventually be extradited to New York to face charges in connection with Thompson’s death, said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. In addition to a three-page, handwritten document that suggests he harbored “ill will toward corporate America,” Kenny said Mangione also had a ghost gun , a type of weapon that can be assembled at home and is difficult to trace. Officers questioned Mangione, who was acting suspiciously and carrying multiple fraudulent IDs, as well as a U.S. passport, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference. Officers also found a suppressor, “consistent with the weapon used in the murder,” the commissioner said. He had clothing and a mask similar to those worn by the shooter and a fraudulent New Jersey ID matching one the suspect used to check into a New York City hostel before the shooting, Tisch said. Kenny said Mangione was born and raised in Maryland, has ties to San Francisco and that his last known address is in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mangione, who was valedictorian of his Maryland prep school, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science in 2020 from the University of Pennsylvania, a university spokesman told The Associated Press on Monday. He learned to code in high school and helped start a club at Penn for people interested in gaming and game design, according to a 2018 story in Penn Today, a campus publication. His social media posts also suggest that he belonged to the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. They also show him taking part in a 2019 program at Stanford University, and in photos with family and friends at the Jersey Shore and in Hawaii, San Diego, Puerto Rico, and other destinations. The Gilman School, from which Mangione graduated in 2016, is one of Baltimore’s elite prep schools. Some of the city’s wealthiest and most prominent people, including Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr., have had children attend the school. Its alumni include sportswriter Frank Deford and former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington. In his valedictory speech, Luigi Mangione described his classmates’ “incredible courage to explore the unknown and try new things,” according to a post on the school website. He praised their collective inventiveness and pioneering mindset. Mangione comes from a prominent Maryland family. His grandfather Nick Mangione, who died in 2008, was a successful real estate developer. One of his best-known projects was Turf Valley Resort, a sprawling luxury retreat and conference center outside Baltimore that he purchased in 1978. The father of 10 children, Nick Mangione prepared his five sons — including Luigi Mangione’s father, Louis Mangione — to help manage the family business, according to a 2003 Washington Post report. The Mangione family also purchased Hayfields Country Club north of Baltimore in 1986. On Monday, Baltimore County police officers blocked off an entrance to the property, which public records link to Luigi Mangione’s parents. A swarm of reporters and photographers gathered outside the entrance. Luigi Mangione is one of 37 grandchildren of Nick Mangione, according to his obituary. Luigi Mangione's grandparents donated to charities through the Mangione Family Foundation, according to a statement from Loyola University commemorating Nick Mangione’s wife’s death in 2023. They donated to various causes ranging from Catholic organizations to colleges and the arts. One of Luigi Mangione’s cousins is Republican Maryland state legislator Nino Mangione. A spokesman for the lawmaker's office confirmed the relationship Monday. Police said the person who killed Thompson left a hostel on Manhattan's Upper West Side at 5:41 a.m. on Wednesday. Just 11 minutes later, he was seen on surveillance video walking back and forth in front of the New York Hilton Midtown, wearing a distinctive backpack. At 6:44 a.m., he shot Thompson at a side entrance to the hotel, fled on foot, then climbed aboard a bicycle and within four minutes had entered Central Park. Another security camera recorded the gunman leaving the park near the American Museum of Natural History at 6:56 a.m. still on the bicycle but without the backpack. After getting in a taxi, he headed north to a bus terminal near the George Washington Bridge, arriving at around 7:30 a.m. From there, the trail of video evidence runs cold. Police have not located video of the suspected shooter exiting the building, leading them to believe he likely took a bus out of town. Police said they are still investigating the path the suspect took to Pennsylvania. “This just happened this morning," Kenny said. "We’ll be working, backtracking his steps from New York to Altoona, Pennsylvania,” Kenny said. Thanksgiving is my favorite American holiday. Let me count some of the ways I love Thanksgiving: Because it isn’t very commercialized. Because it doesn’t leave out the lovelorn and the lonely. Because it has an intrinsic honesty: It’s about being grateful. Because it’s about as much extended family as most of us can take: just one day of them. Because there aren’t a lot of old movies — aired on other holidays — that get taken out of the movie mausoleum every year, like “Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Miracle on 34th Street” or that one about snow, “Holiday Inn,” and “The Ten Commandments.” Because the political class generally shuts up. It doesn’t feel necessary to make long atavistic speeches with dubious grandiloquence that no one believes, least of all the speakers. Because you don’t have to receive presents and lie to your close friends and family, “I always wanted a toy pig that burps,” or “Thank you for the lovely necktie. I’m sure they will come back into fashion in a few decades.” Because there are no flags or bunting, and most houses aren’t turned into glaring neon performance art, nor are there skeletons hanging from swing sets. Because you don’t have to wear a funny hat and red or green or any other color that signals that you are in the spirit of the event. Because when I worked on the newspapers, I could volunteer and get paid double or better in overtime for a shift on Thanksgiving Day. From my arrival at New York’s Idlewild Airport in 1963, I have been able to luxuriate in America’s bounty and give thanks. It wasn’t always easy being an immigrant, even one of favored language and provenance (British), and it didn’t spare me and my English wife, Doreen, from hard times. We had those. But America remained the mansion on the high ground where, if we were lucky, we could be let in to enjoy the riches of acceptance. My first experience of the United States — and I give thanks for it — was the taxi driver who, when he learned I had hardly any money, gave me a free guided tour of Manhattan, The Bronx and Brooklyn. Finally, he deposited me at an uncompromising address on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, where I was to stay while I found work and before I sent for Doreen, my cherished first wife. It was a walk-up and there was no air conditioning. My hosts were an English couple in their 70s: Doreen’s aunt and her husband. She helped with newborns in wealthier people’s homes well into her old age. He had worked rather unsuccessfully as an industrial jeweler. They were palpably short of money and hadn’t enjoyed an easy life since arriving in America in 1918. Their story had a fairytale, extraordinary last volume. Out on Long Island, their grandson and granddaughter were growing up with a single mother, also in straitened circumstances. She worked with seedlings in a plant nursery. The grandson was to climb to the apex of achievement, to stun his family and, in time, the world with his talent. This young man and I would swim in Long Island Sound, where we would head for anchored yachts with people partying on board. A decade older than my companion, I always believed that when they looked down on the swimmers, the partiers would invite us aboard for food and drink. It never happened, but we enjoyed our aquatic adventures and social failure. If they had only known! As I said, that young man was destined to win all that his mother and grandparents didn’t have. Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens fall to New York Rangers in final minuteChris Cenac Jr., the top center in the Class of 2025 according to the ESPN100, has committed to play for the Houston Cougars. The five-star recruit announced his decision Tuesday via the Bleacher Report's B/R App. Cenac previously said he wouldn't make his decision until the spring, but his stock soared over the summer after his impressive play on the Puma Pro 16 circuit with Dallas-based YGC, vaulting him into the national top-10 rankings. The 6-foot-10 New Orleans native was reportedly choosing between LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Baylor, Kentucky, Tennessee and others before making the decision to join Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson's team. "I just like the coaching staff a lot, I like their plan to develop me and I like coming into a winning program," Cenac told 247Sports. "I'm looking forward to producing and just helping them win more. But the main thing was development and them being able to get me better so I can be ready for that next level." Cenac's rating of .9978 by 247Sports Composite makes him the Cougars' highest-rated commit in the modern era, according to multiple outlets. "They see me as a four who can kind of play all over the court and do everything," Cenac told 247Sports. "I can get rebounds, push the ball, shoot and play all over the floor." With Cenac joining other Houston commits like five-star shooting guard Isaiah Harwell, four-star point guard Kingston Flemings and three-star wing Bryce Jackson, Houston's Class of 2025 is ranked No. 2 in the nation by 247Sports and ESPN. --Field Level Media

The rivalry between two of the world's richest men, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, has once again become a topic of discussion. Musk accused Bezos of having urged the public to sell Tesla and SpaceX stocks before the critical U.S. presidential election. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk also alleged that Bezos had said Trump was going to lose. In an unusual statement, Bezos responded by outright denying the claims. Musk's Accusation Elon Musk, a prominent supporter of Donald Trump during the election, accused Jeff Bezos of telling people that Trump would certainly lose. According to Musk, the panic created from this statement might have caused some people to sell their Tesla and SpaceX stocks out of a growing fear that if Trump lost, there might be market repercussions. Musk tweeted that someone had told him this at Mar-a-Lago, Trump's resort in Florida. Bezos Denies Claims Jeff Bezos, hardly ever present on social media, came back with a short but to-the-point denial of Musk's claims. In his first post since November 6, Bezos stated: “Nope. 100% not true.” Musk later pressed a laughing emoji and said: “Well, then, I stand corrected.” What It Looks Like Musk is said to have spent over $130 million on Trump's reelection campaign and has had a close connection with the former president. There have been a series of controversies over his association with Trump, fearing that it may sting Tesla and SpaceX stocks during political turmoil moments. It seems that Musk and Bezos fought an antagonistic battle, and the companies Tesla and Amazon are always embroiled in the technological and innovation wars with one another. In this case, for now, the matter appears to be settled, illustrating the growing public nature of disputes between billionaire titans. Trump's threat to impose tariffs could raise prices for consumers, colliding with promise for relief DETROIT (AP) — If Donald Trump makes good on his threat to slap 25% tariffs on everything imported from Mexico and Canada, the price increases that could follow will collide with his campaign promise to give American families a break from inflation. Economists and industry officials say companies would have little choice but to pass along the added costs, dramatically raising prices for food, clothing, automobiles, booze and other goods. The president-elect floated the tariff idea and an additional 10% tax on goods from China, as a way to force the countries to halt the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs into the U.S. But his posts Monday threatening tariffs on his first day in office could be a negotiating ploy to get the countries to change behavior. Trump’s latest tariff plan aims at multiple countries. What does it mean for the US? WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump has identified what he sees as an all-purpose fix for what ails America: Slap huge new tariffs on foreign goods entering the United States. On Monday, Trump sent shockwaves across the nation’s northern and southern borders, vowing sweeping new tariffs on Mexico, Canada, as well as China, as part of his effort to crack down on illegal immigration and drugs. Trump said he will impose a 25% tax on all products entering the country from Canada and Mexico, and an additional 10% tariff on goods from China, as one of his first executive orders. Canadian officials blast Trump's tariff threat and one calls Mexico comparison an insult TORONTO (AP) — Canadian officials are blasting President-elect Donald’s Trump’s threat to impose sweeping tariffs. The leader of Canada's most populous province on Tuesday called Trump’s comparison of Canada to Mexico “the most insulting thing I’ve ever heard.” Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on products from Canada, Mexico and China as soon as he takes office in January as part of efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and drugs. He said he would impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico. Canadians say their economy and the U.S. one are deeply intertwined and Americans would feel tariffs, too. Biden proposes Medicare and Medicaid cover costly weight-loss drugs for millions of obese Americans WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of obese Americans would be eligible to have popular weight-loss drugs like Wegovy or Zepbound covered by Medicare or Medicaid under a new rule the Biden administration proposed Tuesday morning. The proposal, which would not be finalized until after President-elect Donald Trump takes office, could cost taxpayers as much as $35 billion over the next decade. It would give millions of people access to weekly injectables that have helped people shed pounds so quickly that some people have labeled them miracle drugs. Surveillance tech advances by Biden could aid in Trump's promised crackdown on immigration President-elect Donald Trump will return to power next year with a raft of technological tools at his disposal that would help deliver his campaign promise of cracking down on immigration — among them, surveillance and artificial intelligence technology that the Biden administration already uses to help make crucial decisions in tracking, detaining and ultimately deporting immigrants lacking permanent legal status. One algorithm, for example, ranks immigrants with a “Hurricane Score,” ranging from 1-5, to assess whether someone will “abscond” from the agency’s supervision. Thanksgiving travel is cranking up. Will the weather cooperate? The Thanksgiving travel rush is picking up, with Tuesday and Wednesday expected to be much busier than the last couple days. A lot of travelers will be watching weather forecasts to see if rain or snow could slow them down. The Transportation Security Administration expects to screen more than 2.8 million people on Tuesday and 2.9 million on Wednesday after handling more than 2.5 million people on Monday. So far, relatively few flights have been canceled this week, but there have been thousands of delayed flights every day. That is becoming normal for U.S. airlines. Federal agency raises the size of most single-family loans the government can guarantee to $806,500 The Federal Housing Finance Agency is increasing the size of home loans that the government can guarantee against default as it takes into account rising housing prices. Beginning next year, mortgage buyers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be able to acquire loans of up to $806,500 on single-family homes in most of the country, the agency said Tuesday. The new conforming loan limit is a 5.2% increase from its 2024 level. FHFA oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which buy home loans from banks and other lenders. FHFA adjusts the loan limits annually to reflect changes in U.S. home values, which have been rising this year despite a national home sales slump. The IRS is at risk of losing $20 billion in funding without legislative intervention WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Already bracing for funding cuts under a new Trump administration, U.S. Treasury officials are calling on Congress to unlock $20 billion in IRS enforcement money that is tied up in legislative language that has effectively rendered the money frozen. Hoping to unlock the funds in upcoming budget negotiations, Treasury officials are rushing for action before President Joe Biden’s term ends. The $20 billion in question is separate from another $20 billion rescinded from the agency last year. However, the legislative mechanism keeping the government afloat inadvertently duplicated that one-time $20 billion cut to IRS funding. Stock market today: Wall Street hangs near its records despite tariff talk NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are hanging near their records on Tuesday as Wall Street takes Donald Trump’s latest talk about tariffs in stride. The S&P 500 rose 0.4% in Tuesday afternoon trading and was on track to top its all-time high set a couple weeks ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 49 points from its own record set the day before, while the Nasdaq composite rose 0.6%. Stock markets abroad were down, but mostly only modestly, after President-elect Trump said he plans to impose sweeping new tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China as soon as he takes office. Treasury yields rose modestly in the bond market. What Black Friday's history tells us about holiday shopping in 2024 NEW YORK (AP) — The holiday shopping season is about to reach full speed with Black Friday, which kicks off the post-Thanksgiving retail rush later this week. The annual sales event no longer creates the midnight mall crowds or doorbuster mayhem of recent decades, in large part due to the ease of online shopping and habits forged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hoping to entice equivocating consumers, retailers already have spent weeks bombarding customers with ads and early offers. Still, whether visiting stores or clicking on countless emails promising huge savings, tens of millions of U.S. shoppers are expected to spend money on Black Friday itself this year.

NoneLosing to older brother John Harbaugh and seeing the Los Angeles Chargers' four-game winning streak snapped Monday night might be the least of Jim Harbaugh's problems this week. The Chargers are holding their breath that running back J.K. Dobbins isn't seriously hurt after he left with a knee injury late in the first half of the Chargers’ 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens . Harbaugh, who dislikes discussing injuries and eschews questions about any player's status with the tried and true “I'm not a doctor” answer, will get plenty of inquiries about Dobbins' health this week. After injuries derailed Dobbins' four years with the Ravens, the 2020 second-round pick decided to bet on himself by signing only a one-year deal with the Chargers. Though the first 10 1/2 games, the bet appeared to be paying off. Dobbins had 40 yards on six carries when he was wrenched backward by linebacker Malik Harrison and then gang-tackled on a play for no gain on third-and-1 at the 50-yard line. Dobbins is fourth in the AFC in rushing with 766 yards and averages 4.8 yards per carry, third highest among AFC backs with at least 100 carries. He has been considered among the candidates for AP Comeback Player of the Year after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in last season’s opener. Dobbins' production throughout the season has made the offense more balanced. Los Angeles had 14 rushes for 68 yards before he was injured. They had seven carries for 15 yards the rest of the game. Without Dobbins and a 14-13 deficit at halftime, the Chargers tried to count on Justin Herbert and the passing game to rally back. Herbert was 11 for 22 for 125 yards and sacked three times in the five drives after Dobbins' departure and didn't get back into the end zone until Gus Edwards' 1-yard run with 46 seconds remaining. Edwards will be counted on to be the lead back if Dobbins has to miss games. Edwards missed four games during the middle of the season because of an ankle injury and has 25 carries for 93 yards in three games since returning to the lineup. Hassan Haskins and rookie Kimani Vidal will be counted on to provide depth. “Obviously, I’m hoping J.K. is OK. Gus has been an awesome addition, being able to run and go and get some yards,” Herbert said. "We just got to stay with it. I think that offensive line has done a great job all year. It didn’t go our way today, but we’re going to keep pounding the ball and keep getting after it.” Dobbins' injury also could not come at a worse time for the Chargers. They are 7-4 and hold the sixth seed in the AFC, but have tough upcoming tests against playoff contenders Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Denver the next three weeks. What’s working Herbert on the run. Herbert has at four scrambles of at least 12 yards in the past five games and got his second rushing touchdown of the season on the opening drive with a 5-yard carry up the middle. What needs help Not giving up big-play touchdowns. Rashod Bateman's 40-yard touchdown late in the second quarter (which would have been pass interference on Kristian Fulton if it wasn't completed) marked the third straight game the Chargers allowed a passing TD of at least 40 yards. They had allowed only two in the first nine games. Stock up LB Joey Bosa had four tackles, his most since he had seven in Week 1 against the Raiders. Bosa missed three games earlier in the season because of a hip injury, but had only two tackles in the four games since his return until Monday night. Stock down WR Quentin Johnston is the second Chargers receiver since 2009 to be targeted at least five times and not have a catch according to Sportradar. Travis Benjamin also had five targets and no receptions against the Jets in 2017. Besides being held without a catch, Johnston had two critical drops during the second half. Injuries In addition to Dobbins, CB Eli Apple suffered a hamstring injury in the first half and did not return. CB Cam Hart was inactive because of an ankle injury and was in a walking boot. LB Denzel Perryman (groin) and TE Hayden Hurst (hip) were also inactive because of injuries. Key numbers 57 — Points allowed by the Chargers in the past two games. They had given up 68 in their first five games after their bye week. 73 — Games it took for Herbert to reach 1,800 completions, tying him with Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes as the fastest players in NFL history to reach that mark. 6 — Games where Daiyan Henley has had double-digit tackles. The second-year linebacker had 10 tackles (four solo) on Monday night. What’s next The Chargers will make their second trip in three years to Atlanta on Sunday. They won the 2022 meeting in Week 9 when Cameron Dicker hit a 37-yard field goal on the last play of the game. Los Angeles is 2-0 against the NFC South this season and has a four-game winning streak against teams in the division. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

The Pro model uses an RGB sensor, and the Pro+ comes with an innovative RYYB sensor, offering better low-light performance and natural skin tones. Other highlights include a 48MP telephoto camera with 4X optical zoom and a 40MP ultrawide sensor. Both models also introduce Huawei's XMage spectral imaging sensor, designed for unparalleled color accuracy. HarmonyOS NEXT Steers Away From Usual Android OS A milestone in terms of the Mate 70 series is made with , which completely throws Android to the wind. The operating system exploits a proprietary microkernel which runs the apps in its unique APP format. The app ecosystem at present is limited to 15,000 applications, but the capabilities are steadily increasing with Huawei. The pre-installed HarmonyOS 4.3 from Huawei closes the gap by supporting both HarmonyOS NEXT and standard Android APKs for now, which offers users flexibility in this transitionary period. How Much is Huawei Mate 70? The Mate 70 series is exclusive to China. It starts from around $760 for the Mate 70, while the Pro model is at $895, and the Pro+ model sits at an astonishing $1,171. The expensive RS variant goes for a whole $1,653. Global availability remains uncertain, but Huawei's latest offerings signify a significant evolution in smartphone technology. The fact that it breaks free from its is already a big move in the making.

Sunday morning during an hour-long sermon, Bishop T.D. Jakes had "a slight health incident" while on stage during the church service, according to The Potter's House of Dallas. Bishop Jakes, who founded The Potter's House in 1996, has more than 30,000 members with several campuses in North Texas. While he was on the pulpit at the main campus on Sunday in Southern Dallas, after his "powerful hour-long message" he began to pray when he experienced a medical emergency on the stage. Part of the service was recorded from the live stream and posted to social media. In the video, Bishop Jakes is heard praying, "Oh Lord, my strength, my Redeemer, let him go in Peace." Immediately after he becomes quiet, lowers the microphone and begins to exhibit shaking. People, appearing to be church elders and staff, rushed the stage to support him before the video cuts off. "I had a chance to sit and watch it online and [I am] heartbroken and devastated to see that," said DeSoto Mayor Rachel Proctor. Proctor's been a member of the church for more than a decade and said she personally knows Bishop Jakes. She was watching the Sunday service online before attending an event. Proctor said right after the medical situation happened, someone came into the event to inform her. "I absolutely love Bishop he has again left such an indelible mark on my life, he's changed countless lives, so we're all standing in faith for his full recovery," said Proctor. According to a post made on X, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a health incident following an hour-long message he gave on stage. He received immediate medical attention and is in stable condition, according to the post. The specifics of the health incident have not been released. The statement went on to thank the community for its outpouring of love, prayers and support. "He's invested so much into each of us and into our spiritual growth and our development and leaders. So now it's our time to do the same for him and to keep him lifted up in prayer," said Proctor. Jakes, who is also a motivational speaker and author of several books, is also known for his contributions outside of the church walls. The 67-year-old has created many programs in the community including the T.D. Jakes Foundation STEAM Academy in partnership with the Dallas Mavericks to expose students to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. He was honored in 2022 for the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame. According to The Potter's House website , Jakes has advised presidents and was a featured speaker at the inauguration of former President Barack Obama in 2009. Jakes has millions of followers on social media. Those who follow his teachers are now leaning on their faith to wish him well after the senior pastor's health scare on Sunday. "We know there's nothing too hard for God, so the outpouring of love and prayers from DeSoto and beyond again just shows us how much he really has impacted the entire world," said Proctor.MEXICO CITY (AP) — Walmart’s Mexico subsidiary said Friday it plans to appeal a $4.6 million fine for alleged anti-competitive practices involving suppliers. Walmart de Mexico said in a statement that it had talked with suppliers to see if there were any concerns. The agency that issued the fine, known as the Federal Competition Commission, expressed concerns about a “relative monopolistic practice.” The commission, Mexico's main anti-monopoly regulatory agency, is one of several independent agencies soon to be eliminated as part of what the government describes as a money-saving measure. It apparently levied the fine after at least one rival store chain accused Walmart of using its substantial purchasing power to gain discounts that put other sellers at a disadvantage. Walmart is by far the largest retail chain in Mexico. It called the decision “incorrect” and said it contained “errors in applying the law.” The company said it would abide by the agency’s ruling Thursday, but would appeal the decision. Walmart's shares rose about 7.5% on the Mexican stock exchange Friday.Rugby-loving NI sports journalist has ‘dream come true’ as she covers first Ireland match

Marshall vs. Ohio Basketball Tickets – Saturday, December 14Cam Carter put LSU ahead for good with a jumper 1:08 into the third overtime and the Tigers came away with a wild 109-102 win over UCF on Sunday in the third-place game of the Greenbrier Tip-Off in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Carter's make sparked a 5-0 spurt for LSU (5-1), which mounted a ferocious second-half rally that began after Darius Johnson drilled a 3-pointer to put the Knights up 52-34 with 12:57 to play in regulation. UCF (4-2) got back within two in the third overtime, but it never found a way to draw even. Vyctorius Miller and Jordan Sears sealed the victory, combining for three buckets down low that gave the Tigers a 106-99 cushion with 17 seconds remaining. Carter was the late-game hero for LSU, scoring the final four points of regulation to forge a 70-70 tie. He also knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:19 left in the first extra session to give the Tigers a 76-75 advantage. Sears gave LSU a four-point edge with a triple of his own with 2:10 to go, but the Tigers failed to stay in front, and UCF's Keyshawn Hall kept the game going by sinking two free throws with six seconds remaining to make it 82-82. Neither team led by more than three in the second overtime, with Hall again coming to the Knights' rescue. He made two layups in the final 52 seconds of the frame to knot things at 93 and send the teams to a third OT. Few could have predicted 15 minutes of extra basketball after UCF put together a 25-3 first-half run that lifted it to a 38-18 advantage with 2:12 left until the break. LSU responded with seven unanswered points, but the Knights still led comfortably, 40-25, at intermission. Sears finished with a game-high-tying 25 points to go along with nine boards, while Jalen Reed recorded a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Tigers. Carter netted 20 points, Miller had 16 and Dji Bailey chipped in 14. Johnson collected 25 points, six rebounds, eight assists and five steals for UCF. Hall totaled 21 points and 10 boards, and Jordan Ivy-Curry supplied 20 points. LSU outshot UCF 43.2 percent to 40.7 percent and had narrow advantages from behind the arc (12 made shots to 10) and the free-throw line (21-18). --Field Level Media0888 philippines smart

Record annual Sales of $637.8 million Fourth quarter Sales of $155.4 million, Net Income of $7.7 million and EPS of $0.20 Fourth quarter EBITDA 1 of $20.6 million, 13.3% of sales Free Cash Flow 1 of $21.7 million for the quarter and $53.8 million for the year Quarterly dividend of $0.105 per common share to be paid December 31, 2024 TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Exco Technologies Limited (TSX-XTC) today announced results for its fourth quarter and year ended September 30, 2024. In addition, Exco announced a quarterly dividend of $0.105 per common share which will be paid on December 31, 2024 to shareholders of record on December 17, 2024. The dividend is an “eligible dividend” in accordance with the Income Tax Act of Canada. 1 Free Cash Flow and EBITDA are non-GAAP financial measures. Please see “Non IFRS Measures” section of this press release and separately released MD&A. “Exco delivered resilient results despite challenging market conditions, showcasing progress in innovation and operational improvements. While automotive headwinds impacted our performance this quarter, we remain exceptionally well positioned for strong earnings growth in the coming years.” Consolidated sales for the fourth quarter ended September 30, 2024 were $155.4 million compared to $160.2 million in the same quarter last year – a decrease of $4.7 million, or 3%. Foreign exchange rate movements increased sales by $2.6 million in the quarter. Fourth quarter sales in the Automotive Solutions segment of $79.2 million were down 10% from the prior year quarter. Excluding the impact of foreign exchange, segment sales decreased $9.8 million, or 11%. The sales decrease was driven by lower automotive production volumes in North America and Europe, customer driven delays in certain program launches, and unfavorable vehicle mix. Looking forward, industry growth may be tempered near term by increasing OEM inventory levels, elevated interest rates, relatively high vehicle average transaction prices, and softening global economic conditions. Countering these headwinds, central banks are lowering interest rates, vehicle sales have remained resilient, dealer inventory levels remain below pre-COVID-19 levels, vehicle fleets continue to age, and OEM incentives are rising. As well, Exco’s sales volumes are expected to benefit from awarded program launches that should provide ongoing growth in our content per vehicle. Quoting activity also remains encouraging and we believe there is ample opportunity to achieve our targeted growth objectives. The Casting and Extrusion segment recorded sales of $76.3 million in the fourth quarter compared to $72.6 million last year – an increase of $3.7 million or 5%. Excluding the impact of foreign exchange movements, the segment’s sales were up 3% for the quarter. Demand for our extrusion tooling remained relatively resilient in both North America and Europe, though activity slowed through the quarter with key end markets such as building and construction as well as automotive showing signs of softer conditions. Other end markets such as sustainable energy however remain firm. We remain focused on standardizing manufacturing processes, enhancing engineering depth and centralizing critical support functions across our various plants. These initiatives have reduced lead times, enhanced product quality, expanded product breadth and increased capacity, contributing to share gains in our core markets. Management continues to develop its Castool Morocco and Mexico locations which provide the opportunity to gain market share in Europe and Latin America through better proximity to local customers. In the die-cast tooling market, which primarily serves the automotive industry, demand and order flow for new moulds, associated consumable tooling and rebuild work remained firm during the quarter, though slowed slightly from recent activity. Industry vehicle production volumes remain relatively healthy and new, more efficient internal combustion engine/transmission platforms are being launched, including an increase in hybrid powertrain platforms. Battery electric platforms continue to be developed, albeit at a slower pace compared to prior expectations. Demand for associated giga-sized tooling has similarly pulled back, although management continues to expect this market segment will see significant growth in the coming years. We have reworked our plants and equipment to accommodate this larger tooling and believe we have the most advanced capabilities among our competitors globally. Our leading market 3D printing group continued strong sales activity supported by six additive printers. As well, our pace of innovation within this market is clearly gaining momentum, yielding more and more applications for our additively printed tooling components. Consequently, demand for Exco’s 3D printed tooling continues to grow strongly as customers focus on greater efficiency in all large mould size segments – ie for both giga and non-giga sized die-cast machines. Sales in the quarter were also aided by price increases, which were implemented to protect margins from higher input costs. Quoting remains very active and our backlog for die-cast moulds remains elevated relative to historical norms. The Company’s fourth quarter consolidated net income decreased to $7.7 million or earnings of $0.20 per share compared to $9.2 million or earnings of $0.24 per share in the same quarter last year. The effective income tax rate was 26% in the current quarter compared 25% in the same quarter last year. The change in income tax rate in the quarter was impacted by geographic distribution, foreign tax rate differentials and losses that cannot be tax affected for accounting purposes. Fourth quarter pre-tax earnings in the Automotive Solutions segment totalled $7.8 million, a decrease of $2.1 million or 22% over the same quarter last year. Variances in period profitability were due to lower sales, product mix shifts, rising labour costs in all jurisdictions and foreign exchange movements. Labour costs in Mexico have been particularly challenging in recent years and are seeing added pressure given the significant rise in wages. Vehicle production volumes and product releases however remain relatively stable, which has led to improvements in labour scheduling and reduced expedited shipping costs. As well, pricing action and efficiency initiatives continued to temper inflationary pressures. Although production volumes have largely stabilized from a macroeconomic and global perspective from recent years, volumes in the segment’s first quarter are expected to follow typical seasonality trends due to OEM December holidays. Apart from these specific impacts, management is cautiously optimistic that its overall cost structure should improve margins in coming quarters. Pricing discipline remains a focus and actions are being taken on current programs where possible, though there is typically a lag of a few quarters before the impact is realized. As well, new program awards are priced to reflect management’s expectations for higher future costs. Fourth quarter pre-tax earnings in the Casting and Extrusion segment totalled $6.3 million, an increase of $1.0 million or 18% over the same quarter last year. The Pretax Profit improvement is due to higher sales volumes within the die-cast and extrusion end markets, program pricing improvements, favorable product mix, and efficiency initiatives across the segment (including the ongoing use of lean manufacturing and automation to improve productivity through standardization and waste elimination). In addition, volumes at Castool’s heat treatment operation continue to increase providing savings and improved production quality while efficiency initiatives at Halex are progressing. Offsetting these cost improvements were ongoing start-up losses at Castool’s greenfield operations and an increase in segment depreciation ($0.5 million for the quarter) associated with recent capital expenditures. Management remains focused on reducing its overall cost structure and improving manufacturing efficiencies and expects such activities together with its sales efforts should lead to improved segment profitability over time. The Corporate segment in the fourth quarter recorded expenses of $2.0 million compared to $0.8 million last year was primarily due mainly to higher foreign exchange gains in fiscal 2023. As a result of the foregoing, consolidated EBITDA in the quarter was $20.6 million (13.3% of sales) compared to $22.9 million (14.3% of sales) last year. Operating cash flow before net changes in working capital was $16.7 million in the quarter compared to $23.5 million in the prior year quarter. The primary drivers on operating cash flow include a $5.0 million change in deferred income taxes, lower net income and interest expense. Fourth quarter net change in non-cash working capital contributed $12.2 million of cash compared to $5.9 million cash used in fiscal 2023. Improvements to working capital were driven primarily by lower accounts receivable due to management’s focus on collections throughout the year, slightly lower fourth quarter sales, and due to customer payment delays in 2023 due to the UAW strike. This improvement was partially offset by lower accounts payable reflecting significant payables in the prior year. Investment in fixed assets of $8.7 million compared to $9.6 million in the prior year quarter. Included in the current year quarter is $3.3 million in growth capital. The difference relates to timing of equipment purchases and the completion of major projects from the prior year. Exco ended the quarter with $73.4 million in net debt compared to $94.2 million in the prior year. The Company has $46.5 million in available liquidity under its banking facilities at year end. Outlook By the end of fiscal 2026, Exco is targeting to produce approximately $750 million annual revenue, $120 million annual EBITDA and annual EPS of roughly $1.50. Exco has made significant progress towards achieving these targets since they were announced in Fiscal 2021 and continues to believe its targets remain obtainable. These targets are expected to be achieved through returns on greenfield and strategic initiatives, the launch of new programs, general market growth, and also market share gains consistent with the Company’s operating history. Despite current macro-economic challenges, including slightly increasing levels of unemployment, relatively high interest rates, persistent inflation, policy shifts which may occur related to the US election, the overall outlook is favorable across Exco’s segments into the medium term. Consumer demand for automotive vehicles remains stable in most markets. And while dealer inventory levels have been increasing, average transaction prices for both new and used vehicles remain firm, incentives are increasing and the average age of the broader fleet has continued to increase. This bodes well for strong levels of future vehicle production and the sales opportunity of Exco’s various automotive components and accessories. In addition, OEM’s are increasingly looking to the sale of higher margin accessory products as a means to enhance their own levels of profitability. Exco’s Automotive Solutions segment derives a significant amount of activity from such products and is a leader in the prototyping, development and marketing of the same. Moreover, the movement towards an electrified and hybrid fleet for both passenger and commercial vehicles is enticing new market entrants into the automotive market while causing traditional OEM incumbents to further differentiate their product offerings, all of which is driving above average opportunities for Exco. With respect to Exco’s Casting and Extrusion segment, the intensifying global focus on environmental sustainability has created significant growth drivers that are expected to persist through at least the next decade. Automotive OEMs are utilizing light-weight metals such as aluminum to reduce vehicle weight and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This trend is evident regardless of powertrain design - whether internal combustion engines, electric vehicles or hybrids. As well, a renewed focus on the efficiency of OEMs in their own manufacturing process is creating higher demand for advanced tooling that can enhance their profitability and sustainability goals. Certain OEM manufacturers have begun utilizing much larger die cast machines (“giga-presses”) to cast entire vehicle sub-frames using aluminum-based alloy rather than stamping, welding, and assembling separate pieces of ferrous metal. Exco is in discussions with several traditional OEMs and their tier providers who appear likely to follow this trend. While the growth of EV’s in North America and Europe has been delayed from prior expectations, contributing to a slower adoption of giga-presses, Exco nonetheless continues to expect these trends will occur and has positioned its operations to capitalize accordingly. Beyond the automotive industry, Exco’s extrusion tooling supports diverse industrial end markets which are also seeing increased demand for aluminum driven by environmental trends, including energy efficient buildings, solar panels, etc. On the cost side, inflationary pressures have intensified post COVID while prompt availability of various input materials, components and labour has become more challenging. The intensity of these dynamics have generally moderated in recent quarters with the exception of labour costs in Mexico, which continue to see significant increases. We are offsetting these dynamics through various efficiency initiatives and taking pricing action where possible although there is typically several quarters of lag before the counter measures yield results. The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Middle East conflict have added additional uncertainty to the global economy. And while Exco has essentially no direct exposure to these countries, Ukraine does feed into the European automotive market and Europe has traditionally depended on Russia for its energy needs. Similarly, the conflict in the Middle East creates the potential for a renewed rise in the price of oil and other commodities as well as logistics costs and could weigh on consumer sentiment. Exco itself is also looking inwards with respect to sustainability trends to ensure its operations meet expectations. We are investing significant capital to improve the efficiency and capacity of our operations while lowering our carbon footprint. Our Sustainability Report is available on our corporate website at: www.excocorp.com/leadership/sustainability/ . Non-IFRS Measures: In this News Release, reference may be made to EBITDA, EBITDA Margin, Pretax Profit, Net Debt, Free Cash Flow and Maintenance Fixed Asset Additions which are not defined measures of financial performance under International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”). A reconciliation to these non-GAAP measures is provided within this MD&A. Exco calculates EBITDA as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization and EBITDA Margin as EBITDA divided by sales. Exco calculates Pretax Profit as segmented earnings before other income/expense, interest and taxes. Net Debt represents the Company’s consolidated net indebtedness position offsetting cash from bank indebtedness, current and long-term debt. It is calculated as Long-term debt plus Current portion of Long-term debt plus Bank indebtedness less Cash and cash equivalents. Free Cash Flow is calculated as cash provided by operating activities less interest paid and Maintenance Fixed Asset Additions. Maintenance Fixed Asset Additions represent management’s estimate of the investment in fixed assets that is required for the Company to continue operating at current capacity levels. Given the Company’s elevated planned capital spending on fixed assets for growth initiatives (including additional Greenfield locations, energy efficient heat treatment equipment and increased capacity) in recent years, the Company has modified its calculation of Free Cash Flow to include Maintenance Fixed Asset Additions and not total fixed asset purchases. This change is meant to enable investors to better gauge the amount of generated cash flow that is available for these investments as well as acquisitions and/or returns to shareholders in the form of dividends or share buyback programs. EBITDA, EBITDA Margin, Pretax Profit and Free Cash Flow are used by management, from time to time, to facilitate period-to-period operating comparisons and we believe some investors and analysts use these measures as well when evaluating Exco’s financial performance. These measures, as calculated by Exco, do not have any standardized meaning prescribed by IFRS and are not necessarily comparable to similar measures presented by other issuers. Robert Wickens moving up to IMSA GTD series in 2025 thanks to new Bosch hand controlsOn Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) proposed charging China a fee for failing to impose its environmental laws of about 20%, which is “a tariff, but we’re already paying for this. We’re paying for all of the pollution control that we have to put in place because of their pollution.” Host Maria Bartiromo asked, [relevant exchange begins around 5:20] “Well, how worried are you about the impact of tariffs? President Trump is already sending messages to China, Mexico, and Canada. Do you believe that these tariffs will help growth, or do you expect that we could have an issue with regard to inflation, making prices higher for Americans?” Cassidy responded, “Well, one thing I’ve been proposing is what I call a farm pollution fee, and some in the administration have similarly advocated for it. Right now, China does not enforce its environmental laws. They let their pollutants go into the atmosphere, where [they blow] over onto the United States. It lowers their cost of manufacturing by 20%. That lower cost attracts our jobs, our manufacturers to go to China, that’s wrong. So, I think that we should put a fee on their goods, roughly equal to what they’re not spending to control their pollutants. So, what they’re not spending, put that fee, it levels the playing field, makes it more likely jobs come back to the U.S., our workers do better, our economy does better. It’s a tariff, but we’re already paying for this. We’re paying for all of the pollution control that we have to put in place because of their pollution.” Follow Ian Hanchett on Twitter @IanHanchettAfter an unseasonably warm fall, the chill of winter is finally setting in, meaning it’s time to turn up our thermostats and brace for the inevitable rise in heating costs. So gather your friends, sharpen your survival skills, and embark on an epic journey into the post-apocalyptic world of "Eternal Sky." The multiplayer version is now available on Steam, and the wasteland awaits your presence. Will you survive the harsh realities of this unforgiving world, or will you become another casualty of the Eternal Sky? The choice is yours. Venture forth and carve out your own path in this brutal and beautiful world.A wild first season of the expanded Big 12 is down to what should be a chaotic final weekend. Through all the upsets, unexpected rises and falls, there are nine teams still in the mix to play in the conference championship game. No. 14 Arizona State and No. 17 Iowa State have the best odds, yet a multitude of scenarios could play out — 256 to be exact. There's even the possibility of an eight-team tie. It may take a mathematician to figure out which teams are in the Dec. 7 game in Arlington, Texas — even for the ones who win. Travis Hunter, Colorado. The Buffaloes' two-way star has excelled on both sides of the field, making him one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. Cam Skattebo, Arizona State. The senior running back can do a little of everything, but excels at punishing would-be tacklers. He's one of the nation's leaders in yards after contact and the focal point of the Sun Devils' offense. Shadeur Sanders, Colorado. If it weren't for Hunter, Sanders might be the Heisman favorite. The son of coach Deion Sanders, Shedeur is fifth nationally with 3,488 yards passing and has been a big part of the Buffaloes' turnaround. DJ Giddens, Kansas State. The Wildcats' running back is one of the nation's most versatile players. He is ninth nationally with 1,271 rushing yards and has added 21 receptions for 258 yards. Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona. The Wildcats have struggled this season, but McMillan has not. He is third nationally with 1,251 receiving yards with seven touchdowns on 78 catches. Jacob Rodriguez, Texas Tech. The Red Raiders' junior linebacker leads the Big 12 with 68 tackles, averaging 10.2 per game. He also has four sacks. Brendan Mott, Kansas State. He's a menace to opposing quarterbacks, leading the Big 12 with 8 1/2 sacks. The Big 12 has nine teams already bowl eligible and two more a win away. The winner of the Big 12 championship game will be in the mix for a College Football Playoff spot. Arizona State, Iowa State, No. 19 BYU, Colorado, Kansas State, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech and West Virginia have already clinched bowl berths. Kansas and Cincinnati can get into the postseason with wins this weekend. Gus Malzahn, UCF. Despite successes in recruiting, the Knights are 10-14 in two seasons since moving to the Big 12. Maybe not enough to get shown the door this year, but another mediocre season could lead UCF to make a change. Kyle Whittingham, Utah. Whittingham was one of the Pac-12's best coaches, leading the Utes to consecutive conference titles. Utah was expected to contend for the Big 12 title its first year in the league, but enters the final weekend 1-7 in conference play, which could push Whittingham toward retirement since it's doubtful he'd be fired. Neal Brown, West Virginia. The Mountaineers' coach was in a precarious spot at the end of last season and West Virginia hasn't lived up to expectations this season. The Mountaineers are eligible to go to a bowl game for the second straight season, but Brown could be on the hot seat even after signing a contract extension before the season. Josiah Trotter, West Virginia. The redshirt freshman is the latest Trotter to have success at the linebacker position, following the footsteps of his father, former Philadelphia Eagles player Jeremiah Trotter, and brother Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a current Eagles linebacker. Sam Leavitt, Arizona State. The Michigan State transfer has been just what the Sun Devils' needed: an agile quarterback who extends plays with his legs and rarely makes bad decisions. Bryson Washington, Baylor. The Bears' running back has rushed for 812 yards — 196 against TCU — and 10 TDs. TCU has the Big 12's highest rated 2025 recruiting class with six four-star players among 26 commitments, according to the 247 Sports composite. Receiver Terry Shelton of Carrollton, Texas, is the highest-rated recruit at 71st nationally. Baylor is next with five five-star players among its 20 commitments, including running back Michael Turner, rated 13th at his position out of North Richland Hills, Texas. Texas Tech is ranked seventh in the Big 12, but has four four-star recruits. Get local news delivered to your inbox!6.88 usd to php

By ADRIANA GOMEZ LICON FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump promised on Tuesday to “vigorously pursue” capital punishment after President Joe Biden commuted the sentences of most people on federal death row partly to stop Trump from pushing forward their executions. Related Articles National Politics | Elon Musk’s preschool is the next step in his anti-woke education dreams National Politics | Trump’s picks for top health jobs not just team of rivals but ‘team of opponents’ National Politics | Biden will decide on US Steel acquisition after influential panel fails to reach consensus National Politics | Biden vetoes once-bipartisan effort to add 66 federal judgeships, citing ‘hurried’ House action National Politics | A history of the Panama Canal — and why Trump can’t take it back on his own Trump criticized Biden’s decision on Monday to change the sentences of 37 of the 40 condemned people to life in prison without parole, arguing that it was senseless and insulted the families of their victims. Biden said converting their punishments to life imprisonment was consistent with the moratorium imposed on federal executions in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder. “Joe Biden just commuted the Death Sentence on 37 of the worst killers in our Country,” he wrote on his social media site. “When you hear the acts of each, you won’t believe that he did this. Makes no sense. Relatives and friends are further devastated. They can’t believe this is happening!” Presidents historically have no involvement in dictating or recommending the punishments that federal prosecutors seek for defendants in criminal cases, though Trump has long sought more direct control over the Justice Department’s operations. The president-elect wrote that he would direct the department to pursue the death penalty “as soon as I am inaugurated,” but was vague on what specific actions he may take and said they would be in cases of “violent rapists, murderers, and monsters.” He highlighted the cases of two men who were on federal death row for slaying a woman and a girl, had admitted to killing more and had their sentences commuted by Biden. Is it a plan in motion or more rhetoric? On the campaign trail, Trump often called for expanding the federal death penalty — including for those who kill police officers, those convicted of drug and human trafficking, and migrants who kill U.S. citizens. “Trump has been fairly consistent in wanting to sort of say that he thinks the death penalty is an important tool and he wants to use it,” said Douglas Berman, an expert on sentencing at Ohio State University’s law school. “But whether practically any of that can happen, either under existing law or other laws, is a heavy lift.” Berman said Trump’s statement at this point seems to be just a response to Biden’s commutation. “I’m inclined to think it’s still in sort of more the rhetoric phase. Just, ‘don’t worry. The new sheriff is coming. I like the death penalty,’” he said. Most Americans have historically supported the death penalty for people convicted of murder, according to decades of annual polling by Gallup, but support has declined over the past few decades. About half of Americans were in favor in an October poll, while roughly 7 in 10 Americans backed capital punishment for murderers in 2007. Death row inmates are mostly sentenced by states Before Biden’s commutation, there were 40 federal death row inmates compared with more than 2,000 who have been sentenced to death by states. “The reality is all of these crimes are typically handled by the states,” Berman said. A question is whether the Trump administration would try to take over some state murder cases, such as those related to drug trafficking or smuggling. He could also attempt to take cases from states that have abolished the death penalty. Could rape now be punishable by death? Berman said Trump’s statement, along with some recent actions by states, may present an effort to get the Supreme Court to reconsider a precedent that considers the death penalty disproportionate punishment for rape. “That would literally take decades to unfold. It’s not something that is going to happen overnight,” Berman said. Before one of Trump’s rallies on Aug. 20, his prepared remarks released to the media said he would announce he would ask for the death penalty for child rapists and child traffickers. But Trump never delivered the line. What were the cases highlighted by Trump? One of the men Trump highlighted on Tuesday was ex-Marine Jorge Avila Torrez, who was sentenced to death for killing a sailor in Virginia and later pleaded guilty to the fatal stabbing of an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old girl in a suburban Chicago park several years before. The other man, Thomas Steven Sanders, was sentenced to death for the kidnapping and slaying of a 12-year-old girl in Louisiana, days after shooting the girl’s mother in a wildlife park in Arizona. Court records show he admitted to both killings. Some families of victims expressed anger with Biden’s decision, but the president had faced pressure from advocacy groups urging him to make it more difficult for Trump to increase the use of capital punishment for federal inmates. The ACLU and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops were some of the groups that applauded the decision. Biden left three federal inmates to face execution. They are Dylann Roof, who carried out the 2015 racist slayings of nine Black members of Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina; 2013 Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev ; and Robert Bowers, who fatally shot 11 congregants at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018 , the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S history. Two United States senators urged FIFA on Monday not to pick Saudi Arabia as the 2034 World Cup host next month in a decision seen as inevitable since last year despite the kingdom’s record on human rights. Democrats Ron Wyden of Oregon and Dick Durbin of Illinois have told FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a letter “we urge you to seek out a host country with a record of upholding human rights.” Saudi Arabia has been the only candidate for 2034 since FIFA unexpectedly opened a fast-track nomination process in October last year. The contest seemed designed by FIFA for the Saudi bid to win, despite needing to build most of the 15 stadiums needed that risks repeating labor rights issues seen in Qatar over a decade of intense scrutiny before the 2022 World Cup. On Dec. 11, at an online meeting, more than 200 FIFA member federations are expected to jointly endorse by acclamation the Saudi bid plus the only candidate for the 2030 edition. That is a co-hosting plan by Spain, Portugal and Morocco with single games going to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. “Approving Saudi Arabia’s bid this December endangers workers, athletes, tourists, and members of the press, and it runs counter to FIFA’s own human rights policies,” Wyden and Durbin wrote in a letter seen by The Associated Press. “The kingdom continues to torture dissidents, engage in extrajudicial killings, discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community, oppress women and religious minorities, exploit and abuse foreign workers, and restrict almost all political rights and civil liberties,” the letter claimed. Those concerns were aired by United Nations members at the Human Rights Council in January when Saudi Arabia’s track record was examined. At that session in Geneva, Saudi government officials pointed to dozens of reforms in favor of women and a wider modernizing of its society under the Vision 2030 program pushed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. FIFA’s Infantino has worked to build close ties to the crown prince over several years. The soccer body’s World Cup sponsor deal in April with Saudi state oil firm Aramco signaled a deeper financial relationship ahead of the 2026 edition being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. FIFA bid rules for World Cup candidates require an assessment of human rights risks for the tournament, but the analysis by law firm Clifford Chance published in July was criticized by NGOs and activists for lacking independence. That report committed Saudi Arabia to working with the UN-backed International Labor Organization but not global rights experts who have limited access to enter the country to work. “More concerningly,” the senators wrote, “the Saudis have failed to address how they will uphold labor protections, press freedoms, non-discrimination and inclusion standards. “We strongly urge FIFA to take all steps necessary to thoroughly re-evaluate Saudi Arabia’s ill-equipped World Cup bid ahead of December and select a rights-respecting host country."With the continued support of the gaming community and the dedication of the development team, "Path of Exile 2" is poised to become a lasting and influential title in the ARPG genre. As it continues to attract new players and delight existing fans, the game's future looks brighter than ever, promising even greater success and achievements in the years to come.

The claim: Denmark announced interest in buying US after Trump floated idea of purchasing Greenland A Dec. 25 Facebook post ( direct link , archive link ) claims to share Denmark's response to President-elect Donald Trump's suggestion that the U.S. should acquire Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory. "After rebuffing Donald J. Trump's hypothetical proposal to purchase Greenland, the government of Denmark has announced that it would be interested in buying the United States instead," reads the post. The post includes a supposed quote from a spokesperson for Denmark that reads, "We believe that, by giving the U.S. an educational system and national health care, it could be transformed from a vast land mass into a great nation." It was shared more than 200 times in two days. A similar post circulated on Threads . More from the Fact-Check Team: How we pick and research claims | Email newsletter | Facebook page Our rating: False Denmark didn't make such an announcement. The passages in the post come from a satirical New Yorker article published in 2019 when Trump first floated the idea of purchasing Greenland. Social media users post satirical news about Trump, Greenland as real Trump suggested in December that the U.S. acquire Greenland for its strategic value to the U.S., reviving an idea he raised in 2019 during his first presidential term . "For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity," Trump said in a Dec. 22 Truth Social post announcing his pick for U.S. ambassador to Denmark, Ken Howery. While Greenland's prime minister, Mute Egede, said the Arctic island is not for sale , the Danish government did not respond to Trump's most recent suggestion by cheekily expressing interest in buying the U.S. The passages in the Facebook post come from a satirical news article published in 2019 by The New Yorker . Tubi ‘s imported comedy Big Mood debuted in April 2024 and has left viewers wondering what’s next for friends Maggie ( Nicola Coughlan ) and Eddie ( Lydia West ) ever since it launched. But will the series return for a second season? No official confirmation regarding the show’s future has been made at this time, in other words, it hasn’t been renewed, but it hasn’t been canceled either. In the meantime, we’re breaking down everything we know about the show’s potential return so far, below. Tubi Yes, there’s an abundance of hope due in part to some teases series creator and writer Camilla Whitehill gave about planning for another chapter of the comedy. During an appearance on the Firecrotch & Normcore: They Like to Watch Podcast in July 2024, Whitehill said, “I’m writing Big Mood Series 2, which hasn’t been fully fully greenlit.” She added that regarding a second season, “a few episodes have been commissioned, so I’m working on that. I hope that we will be, that we’ll go again.” Big Mood , as fans saw in Season 1, focuses on the friendship between Eddie and Maggie, the latter of which struggles to live with her bipolar disorder. While Eddie is a big support, she has struggles of her own that often fly under the radar as she tries her best to be there for Maggie. Ultimately, Season 1 ended with Maggie missing out on accompanying Eddie for an abortion due to her mental status. Missing time and space, Maggie eventually shows up at the bar Eddie owned to find a closed sign before she sees Eddie leaving with luggage in a taxi. Nicola Coughlan Weighs in on 'Big Mood' & 'Bridgerton's Friendship Statuses More from this section It’s a heartbreaking scene, and Season 2 would likely pick up where things left off, or examine where these friends are some time after the events after spending some time apart. Only time would tell for certain as we await word on the show’s future. When it came to the possibility of a second season, Big Mood stars Coughlan and West were interested in exploring the origin of Maggie and Eddie’s friendship. “If we get a Season 2 — touch wood — I really want a flashback scene to when they met,” Coughlan told TV Insider . “I’d love that. That would be so funny,” West countered. “And it would be full Indie sleaze,” Coughlan added as she continued to paint a metaphorical picture. Will this vision come to life? We’ll keep our fingers crossed. Until then, stream Big Mood anytime on Tubi. Big Mood , Streaming now, Tubi More Headlines: Will ‘Big Mood’ Return for Season 2? Dinch Tease ‘Raw’ Season 3: ‘Buckle Up’The immigration policy changes promised by president-elect Donald Trump raise much concern across the states. During his recent sit-down on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump detailed that he will deport those illegals residing in the US, a move that can send millions of people—whole families—into exodus, especially those holding mixed statuses. His proposal will majorly impact family units that contain at least one illegal resident and one U.S.-born citizen or legal citizen. Trump’s deportation policy is seen to be a measure to oblige what he calls “the necessity” of securing U.S. immigration law. His proposal to deport even the whole family, to which U.S.-born children belong, has provoked wide criticism. “I don’t want to be breaking up families, so the only way you don’t break up the family is you keep them together and you have to send them all back,” Trump said in that interview. The ‘Mixed-Status’ Households Affected The policy would likely affect the 4.7 million “mixed-status” households in the U.S. These households contain at least one undocumented person and at least one legal resident or U.S.-born child. Trump’s proposal raises serious concerns about the well-being of children who may be legally in the country but face the prospect of deportation with their undocumented parents. The Center for Migration Studies has noted that nearly half of the 2.8 million households with undocumented residents also contain at least one child born in the United States. This has caused people to raise alarms about a greater social and emotional cost to children and families when deportations take place. It could be unprecedented family disruption, compelling children born here, who are citizens, to leave their homes and communities. Birthright Citizenship And The 14th Amendment The proposal of the president to end birthright citizenship, a central aspect of the 14th Amendment, has also garnered huge attention. The 14th Amendment grants citizenship to everyone born on the American soil, irrespective of whether the parents are documented immigrants or undocumented immigrants. According to Trump, he has decided to challenge this particular provision and eliminate it as his first act in the administration. “We have to end it. It’s ridiculous,” Trump said, although he did not specify how he would circumvent the Constitution to achieve this goal. Legal scholars have questioned the constitutionality of such a move, speculating that it would most likely face significant legal resistance. The 14th Amendment has been a part of U.S. jurisprudence, and efforts to roll it back would likely trigger considerable judicial scrutiny. Mixed Reactions To Mass Deportations Trump’s mass deportation approach has been met with a divided reaction. While some of his supporters view this as a necessary step to enforce U.S. immigration laws, others have strongly voiced humanitarian objections. The deporting of millions of people, including those who have lived in the U.S. for years and contributed to its economy and society, could have far-reaching consequences. The social and economic impacts on families, especially those with U.S.-born children, remain a major concern. Elon Musk has long been known for his competitive spirit — and for his list of rivals. He challenged Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight. He called Amazon and Blue Origin boss Jeff Bezos a “copycat.” And just recently, he sued OpenAI’s Sam Altman. Until now, these were business and personal rivalries between some of the richest and most successful people in the world. But with Musk’s new influence in the incoming Trump administration and position as “first buddy,” some fear he could use the power of the government to benefit his own companies and harm his rivals. That could come in the form of starting or dropping government investigations, creating or weakening regulations, and awarding government contracts to the benefit of Musk’s companies. “The federal government has a set of tools in its toolbox, and the question is, will the use of those tools be governed by objective standards, through regulation and laws and the normal process of government intervention in the economy, or will it be subject to the material impulses of either the president or Elon Musk?” said one expert in law and technology who asked to speak anonymously to avoid Musk’s ire. “If all it takes is for (Musk) to say, ‘Hey, DOJ should investigate them,’ that will cause a lot of headaches.” Representatives for Musk did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment. Jeff Bezos Bezos and Musk often compete against each other in the “richest person in the world” rankings, but they have also been rivals when it comes to the space industry. Both Musk’s SpaceX and Bezos’ Blue Origins compete for federal government contracts, and now with Musk firmly tied to Donald Trump’s administration, some wonder whether he will use his influence to further entrench SpaceX’s already dominant position as a government contractor. And it’s not just government contracts with NASA for splashy rockets and trips to the International Space Station. Amazon’s Project Kuiper also competes with SpaceX’s Starlink in the low-orbit satellite system industry. These systems require a fair amount of regulatory and launch approvals, and Amazon is working toward launching some 3,200 satellites into low Earth orbit. Jim Cantrell, an early SpaceX executive who now runs Phantom Space Corporation, said he believes the rivalry between Musk and Bezos is “much more personal than anything anybody ought to be worried about.” Instead, Cantrell said he thinks that while Musk will advocate for changes that could benefit his own companies, it will also benefit his competitors. “A rising tide lifts all boats,” Cantrell said, adding that Musk’s advocacy for commercialization of the space industry and fighting regulations that he believes slow down the industry are “going to raise the tide for all his competitors, including himself.” Cantrell said that some of these actions would end up helping the best competitor in the field — which just happens to be Musk’s companies. “I think Blue Origin should be terrified about their own performance,” Cantrell said, not terrified of Musk’s power in the Trump administration being used against them. Blue Origin, which did not respond to a request for comment, may have another reason to be worried. Trump just named Jared Isaacman, who has close ties with Musk, as his pick for NASA administrator. For his part, Bezos said Wednesday at a New York Times DealBook event that he is not worried about Musk in Washington. “I take it at face value, what has been said, which is that he’s not going to use his political power to advantage his own companies or to disadvantage his competitors,” Bezos said. Though, he added, “I could be wrong about that, but I think it could be true.” Sam Altman Musk’s feud with Altman’s OpenAI has been long-running. Musk — who helped to co-found OpenAI in 2015 — first sued the company in February, accusing the ChatGPT maker of abandoning its original, non-profit mission by reserving some of its most advanced AI technology for private customers. Musk has advocated for “open source” artificial intelligence systems and has publicly released the code behind the chatbot Grok made by his own company, xAI. Musk’s original lawsuit sought a jury trial and for OpenAI, Altman and co-founder and President Greg Brockman to pay back any profit they received from the business. OpenAI called Musk’s claims “incoherent” and “frivolous.” And Musk dropped the suit after OpenAI published several of Musk’s emails from OpenAI’s early days. The emails appeared to show Musk acknowledging the need for the company to make large sums of money to fund the computing resources needed to power its AI ambitions, which stood in contrast to the claims in his lawsuit that OpenAI was wrongly pursuing profit. However, Musk reopened the legal battle in August, filing a new lawsuit against OpenAI and Altman with, essentially, the same claim that the start-up is undermining its non-profit mission by partnering with Microsoft and commercializing some products. OpenAI was created as a non-profit research lab with a for-profit arm, but has mulled restructuring into a more traditional, for-profit company that could lead to more returns for investors — a plan at which Musk has also taken aim. A recent filing in his lawsuit asked a court to temporarily block OpenAI’s ability to make such a transition. Regardless of how that case ultimately plays out, Musk could potentially use his connection to Trump — as well as his friendship with David Sacks, whom Trump has tapped as White House “czar” overseeing artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency policy — to disadvantage OpenAI. Sacks and Musk were both involved in starting PayPal. Musk could, for example, push for the government to work with and grant lucrative contracts to “open source” AI companies like his own over rivals such as OpenAI and Microsoft, said Gil Luria, head of technology research at investment group D.A. Davidson. Such a move could also benefit Meta, which has open-sourced its Llama model and whose CEO, Zuckerberg, has been seeking to improve his relationship with Trump and said he wants an “active role” in tech policy discussions with the president-elect. “The government can decide to advantage certain companies, certain technologies and that would be within the realm of possibility,” Luria said, although he added that he ultimately believes it’s unlikely Musk will use his political influence to harm rivals. Musk could also push Congress or the Internal Revenue Service to interfere with OpenAI’s ability to transition from a non-profit to a for-profit corporation. However, Altman said Wednesday that he’s not worried about Musk’s political activities harming his company. “I believe pretty strongly ... that Elon will do the right thing and it would be profoundly unamerican to use political power, to the degree that Elon has it, to hurt your competitors and advantage your own businesses,” Altman said. “I don’t think people would tolerate that, I don’t think he could do that. It would go so deeply against the values that I believe he holds.” In response to an X post about Altman’s comment, as well as a similar comment by Bezos, Musk said: “They are right.” Mark Zuckerberg A failed SpaceX launch once destroyed a Facebook AMOS-6 Satellite, which the company was hoping to use to beam the internet to millions of people in remote parts of the world. It’s not clear whether that’s what helped spark the long-running feud between Musk and Zuckerberg, which devolved at one point into regular insults and digs lobbed over social media. But at one point Musk and Zuckerberg were seriously discussing an actual fight. Talk of a fight died down around August. And while Zuckerberg has been making inroads with Trump — meeting him at Mar-a-Lago recently and speaking openly about wanting to play an “active role” in helping the Trump administration shape tech policy — one of his top lieutenants expressed a bit more skepticism about Musk. Speaking on a BBC podcast, Meta’s head of global affairs, Nick Clegg, said Musk is “now playing an outsized role in both the election and now the formation of the new US administration.” “He has a choice — he can be either an avid and well-heeled supporter,” Clegg said. “Or he can try and become a sort of political puppet master, going well beyond Trump, deciding who the next Republican candidate should be and the one after that, and so on, so forth.” Meta is already facing an antitrust trial, and the company could also face increased pressure from the Federal Communications Commission. Brendan Carr, Trump’s pick for FCC chair, has exchanged warm words with Musk and often engages with him on X, has been open about his desire of “smashing the censorship cartel” of social media, and has directly told Zuckerberg, as well as other big tech CEOs, that they’ve been engaging in “improper conduct.” “We can impose transparency obligations through existing FCC laws,” Carr told Fox Business last week. “If social media companies are colluding to not compete on speech regulations, that’s really no different than an agreement not to compete on pricing or another competition metric and that should be looked at.” Tesla competitors Tesla stock surged after Trump’s win and is still riding high. While Tesla is already dominant in the electric vehicle market, it could see even greater benefits with Musk’s direct line into the government. For one, government investigations into the safety of Tesla’s autonomous driving technology could just disappear, said Missy Cummings, a former senior safety adviser at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Then there’s support for Tesla competitors. Last week, Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk’s co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency advisory group, sharply criticized a $6.6 billion Department of Energy conditional loan commitment to Rivian, the electric vehicle startup. The loan would help finance a new manufacturing plant in Georgia. Back in 2010, Tesla received a similar $465 million loan from the Energy Department that proved pivotal to its survival and success. But Ramaswamy said that loan and others like it are “high on the list of items” that DOGE will look to reverse. Musk and Ramaswamy’s DOGE effort has an expiration date in 2026, but some who know Musk wonder if his relationship with Trump will sour sooner than that. But until then, Musk said the best way for him to be lobbied is on X, his social media platform. “I will do my best to respond to well-reasoned arguments here on X for serving the best interests of the American people,” Musk wrote on X last week. “However, any real or de facto offers of money, power or threats will obviously be silly and ineffective.”

When it comes to building a great gaming setup, it is easy for costs to add up quickly. A gaming PC alone can set you back around $1,000, and that's before factoring in extras like a monitor or sound system. Modern consoles like the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 also cost several hundred dollars, so it makes sense to look for savings in other areas to keep your setup affordable. Thankfully, there are a lot of accessories and peripherals for your own gaming setup that are on the cheaper side of things. You can find a variety of items like controllers, headsets, and keyboards without breaking the bank if you know where to look. Going for the budget option doesn't mean you have to skimp on quality either, as all of these accessories can be used to build a great gaming setup — all at a fraction of the price you might have expected to pay. Redragon may not be one of the major gaming keyboard brands , but it offers great value for money. Among its range of gaming peripherals is the Redragon K552 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard , which is available for less than $30. It comes equipped with 19 backlight effects that can be customized with different brightness levels and colors or switched to one of the preset modes. Each key features an independent micro switch for fast responses and quiet operation with a tactile feel. As an added bonus, this keyboard includes 12 remappable multimedia keys and a non-slip design to stay firmly in place during gaming. According to reviews, this mechanical keyboard offers great value for money and handles the basics well. The RGB lighting, in particular, is praised for its quality — comparable to that of much pricier keyboards. With more than 50,000 user reviews, the Redragon K552 holds an impressive Amazon rating of 4.5 out of 5. There are a lot of controllers available for those who want to build a great setup and don't want to rely solely on a keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately, many of those from established brands are expensive, while cheaper alternatives often lack even basic features. But there are some controllers that strike a good balance between cost and usability, with 8bitdo being a good example of that. The 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller with Charging Dock is available for around $50 and offers users a great controller that is equipped with a rechargeable battery. SlashGear has previously reviewed the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller and found plenty to like but the Ultimate Bluetooth Controller is an improvement in several ways. The design has been modernized, making it better suited for contemporary gaming setups rather than resembling a relic of retro consoles. It also includes a charging dock that keeps the controller secure and stylish when not in use. The controller can switch between Bluetooth and 2.4G for connecting to devices and offers a number of customization options, including the ability to create and switch profiles through the company's software suite. Complete with back paddles and a 20+ hour battery life, this is the perfect budget controller for any gamer. If you want to win more games, then you need a good gaming mouse , and there are certainly plenty of choices on the market. The SteelSeries Rival 3 is one of the best options for anyone who isn't looking to break the bank with a more expensive product that might set you back in excess of $100. This gaming mouse is available for less than $30 and includes many features you'd expect from a pricier counterpart. According to SteelSeries, the device is constructed from high-grade polymer to ensure durability over time. The TrueMove Core optical gaming sensor provides excellent precision, offering 8,500 CPI for a smooth and accurate performance. An ergonomic design means it is comfortable to use regardless of your hand size, and the lightweight build ensures it is ideal for long gaming sessions. The mouse also features a prism lighting system that allows you to program different light zones with millions of colors alongside the ability to remap every input on the product. No gaming setup is complete without a quality mouse pad. A good mouse pad can improve the accuracy of a mouse sensor, enhance comfort during use, and protect both your desk and mouse from any damage. The SteelSeries QcK Gaming Mouse Pad is an affordable option at just $14.99 and has garnered plenty of praise, with over 90,000 Amazon reviews giving it an average rating of 4.7 out of 5. Durability, quality, and comfort of the mouse pad are highlighted often in user reviews. You can be sure that this is a popular product, with SteelSeries claiming to have sold over 10 million sales of its QcK range. Made from micro-woven cloth and a rubber base, the SteelSeries QcK Gaming Mouse Pad is designed to be soft to the touch and stay securely in place. The brand claims that the high thread count and smooth surface of the pad should increase accuracy with mouse sensors, making it a preferred choice for many professional gamers. The sheer number of devices in a gaming setup means there is a constant need to keep things charged and ready to play. The advent of powerful gaming machines like the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck also means gamers often need a portable solution to keep products working on the go. Thankfully, power banks such as the Anker Portable Charger are exactly what any player who likes to keep their gaming setup mobile should have in their collection. Available for around $25, the Anker Portable Charger is a compact device that is just over half an inch thick and weighs under nine ounces. Despite the small size, it has a 10,000mAh capacity along with a 20W USB-C port and a 12W USB-A port, so you can charge two devices simultaneously. A series of MultiProtect safety systems regulate the temperature of the charger and make it extra resistant to damage, keeping it safe when you are traveling. Anker's reputation as one of the best power bank brands gives you added assurance that you are getting a high-quality and reliable product that won't let you down. HyperX, the gaming brand of HP, has built a solid reputation for producing quality peripherals at the mid-range level that are still budget-friendly. In fact, HyperX has some of the best cheap headphones that come with surround sound support with the likes of the HyperX Cloud 3. While those headphones might still be a bit pricey for anyone building a setup on a tight budget, the brand provides other options, particularly the HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 . You can grab this wired gaming headset for under $50, and for that money, you get an over-ear headset that is complete with a swivel-to-mute microphone and DTS technology. What this means for users is that the HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 can provide immersive 3D spatial audio, so you can pinpoint the direction of in-game sounds. Adjustable rotating memory foam ear cushions give extra comfort while the 50mm drivers provide quality sound that is ideal for gaming. The headset also includes easy-access audio controls on the device for adjusting volume and other settings. A good gaming setup isn't all about building a powerful gaming PC. Many players choose to game on consoles, like the Nintendo Switch. For any lover of the portable hybrid system, a decent carry case is an essential Nintendo Switch accessory — especially given how the console is designed to be carried around with you. After all, the device has a large screen that could easily be damaged in transit. The Amazon Basics Carrying Case for Nintendo Switch proves that you don't have to spend a fortune to get a reliable carry case that does the job perfectly well. Available on Amazon for a little under $15, this carry case has a hard shell for solid exterior protection and a cushioned velvet interior to ensure nothing inside gets bumped around. There's also a net compartment to store accessories such as an AC adapter, USB cables, and a spare pair of Joy-Con controllers. A dedicated section provides space for up to 10 game cards, which are held securely in place. The Logitech G413 SE is a rare product that, despite being an apparently budget version of its range, might actually be superior to the standard version. Launched in 2022, it is the second generation of the original Logitech G413 but carries the SE branding, suggesting it is a lower-cost alternative. While this is true in terms of cost — costing around $80 — it actually boasts a number of improvements over its predecessor. These improvements include a set of Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) keycaps, which most people prefer over the ABS plastic keycaps used in the original Logitech G413 as they offer better feel and durability. However, it isn't quite as stylish as other RGB keyboards, as this model has a more traditional look. That said, that the traditional design also means it includes a full layout with a Num Pad. Anyone who wants a no-frills mechanical keyboard should look deeper at the Logitech G413 SE and see if it has everything they want. Although they are not essential for a gaming setup, LED lights can put the finishing touches on a space and make a room look the part. That is because these lights create a luminescent glow that gives an atmospheric ambiance, helping set the mood for gaming without making the room too bright. They can be especially useful for those who stream and want to have their face and room visible on camera without blowing out the picture with traditional light bulbs that may be too bright and lack quick customization options. The only challenge is the sheer number of LED light options available, from strips to immersive light bars. While more expensive options can sync up with your gameplay, that doesn't mean that more budget-friendly offerings can't have a similar effect. The Keelixin 65.6ft LED Lights strip provides over 60 feet of lighting that you can easily mount around your room or accessories. It also comes with a remote control and supports a smartphone app, which allows users to fully customize the color and style of the lights at a price of under $10. While it is true that modern games will perform better when installed on an SSD, that doesn't mean the older standard HDD doesn't have a place. With AAA titles often running into hundreds of gigabytes of storage, it may simply not be possible for gamers to install every game they want on their computer's SSD, as these drives can fill up incredibly quickly. That's where external HDDs like the UnionSine 750GB 2.5" Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive come in. They allow players to download and store games, which can later be transferred to an SSD when they're ready to play — a process that's often much quicker than relying on unpredictable internet speeds. The UnionSine 750GB 2.5" Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive is available for under $40 and works with PCs, Macs, and gaming consoles such as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Offering 750GB of additional storage, it provides the space needed to download more games or take your favorite titles with you. Thanks to the USB 3.0 support, it has read and write speeds of over 100MB/s and is lightweight enough to easily carry around. The Crownful Mini Fridge is another example of an accessory that isn't exactly essential for a gaming setup but can help enhance your gaming area and take it to the next level. After all, who doesn't want to be able to quickly grab a can or a snack from right where they are without having to get up and leave their room? Having a small personal refrigerator like this can allow you to fully concentrate on gaming without having to risk pausing games or leaving multiplayer matches unattended. This model from Crownful offers four liters of space — enough to easily store six standard-sized soda cans or a range of snacks and other products that need to stay chilled. It has a basic but stylish white exterior with a chrome handle and operates quietly at just 25dB, so it won't compete with the sound from your games. It is also small enough to fit comfortably on most desks or on the floor without being obtrusive. No gaming setup is complete without a gaming chair. Aside from the computer or console you are using to play and the monitor to see the action, a chair might actually be one of the most important aspects. But where do you start when there are so many different models on the market, and you don't want to spend your rent money on a gaming chair ? In these cases, the Homall Gaming Chair may be the solution you are looking for. A good gaming chair needs to be comfortable, sturdy, and long-lasting — and it doesn't hurt if they look pretty good too. The Homall Gaming Chair checks all these boxes without the hefty price tag you might expect. Available for around $100 on Amazon and other retailers, it features high-density shaping foam for maximum comfort. It can swivel 360 degrees and has a recline function that can go back as far as 180 degrees. There's also a range of designs available, from the understated black and white version to neon green and even bright pink, so you should be able to find a version that complements your gaming setup. If you regularly play racing games and take titles like "Forza" and "Gran Turismo" seriously, then a racing wheel is something that your setup simply has to have. Racing wheels make these types of games feel more realistic, provide extra precision with your inputs, and deliver better feedback for how you are driving. Thrustmaster is a respected name in the field and produces some of the top-rated racing wheels . However, models like the Thrustmaster T300RS aren't exactly suitable for a budget gaming setup. Fortunately, the company also sells cheaper options that won't set you back several hundred dollars. The Thrustmaster T128X is one such example, with the racing wheel available for around $150 depending on the platform you need it for. The standard package comes with a force-feedback-enabled racing wheel, magnetic pedals, and a table clamp to keep it securely in place. The buttons, paddles, and mini-sticks can all be customized and moved around as well, giving gamers the opportunity to personalize their racing wheel to suit their preferences.Trump's casting call as he builds out his administration: TV experience preferred

The financial technology, or fintech, industry was one of the hardest hit parts of the stock market in the post-pandemic bear market, but there are still some excellent opportunities. PayPal ( PYPL -1.45% ) is one great example with a stock price that is still about 70% below its 2021 peak and excellent turnaround progress in 2024, while SoFi ( SOFI -3.74% ) is an app-based bank with tremendous momentum. However, these are two very different businesses. Here's a rundown of the bull cases for both stocks and what to keep in mind before you decide which is best for you. PayPal wiped the slate clean and is now moving forward After growth stagnated in the post-pandemic era and management didn't have a clear path to restoring the once-strong momentum, PayPal decided to make some big leadership changes. Not only was former Intuit (NASDAQ: INTU) executive Alex Chriss named CEO, but the entire executive leadership team was replaced. The focus of the team was initially on efficiency. In the most recent quarter, PayPal's revenue grew by just 6% year over year, but thanks to efficiency improvements, earnings per share (EPS) soared by 22%. Management continues to buy back stock hand over fist, and the company is doing a great job with engagement, as evidenced by a 9% increase in transactions per active account. However, many of the most exciting moves PayPal has made aren't reflected in the numbers yet. For example, the company announced it is creating an advertising platform and hired the former head of Uber 's (NYSE: UBER) ad business to run it. It rolled out its Fastlane checkout product recently, as well as its PayPal Everywhere cash-back, debit-card initiative. And PayPal has announced several key partnerships, most notably with Shopify (NYSE: SHOP) to offer PayPal as a checkout option to U.S. customers. In short, PayPal's efficiency efforts have been paying off. In 2025, its growth initiatives started to show results. SoFi is one of the best products of the SPAC boom Hundreds of companies went public through blank-check companies, or SPACs (special purpose acquisition companies) in the 2020 to 2021 time frame, and to be honest, the bulk of them didn't turn out well for investors. SoFi -- which used one of Chamath Palihapitiya's SPACs to go public -- is a notable exception. I don't say that just because it's one of the few with a share price above the $10 initial SPAC valuation. I say that SoFi is one of the best products of the SPAC era because not only has it sustained incredible growth momentum, but it has become profitable in the process. Over the past three years, SoFi's member base has more than tripled, with 35% year-over-year growth in the most recent quarter. About 8.5 million financial services products like bank accounts, investment accounts, and credit cards have been opened in that period. And SoFi's deposit base grew from zero when it first got its banking charter in early 2022 to $24.4 billion in customer deposits. As mentioned, SoFi has become consistently profitable, and its bottom-line income could soar in the next few years as the business continues to scale. Two great fintech opportunities To be perfectly clear, I don't think anyone will go wrong with either of these stocks. In fact, they are the two largest fintech investments I own in my portfolio (in full disclosure, SoFi is the bigger position). PayPal shines when it comes to profitability, but there's a lot that needs to go right for sustainable growth to return to the business. On the other hand, SoFi is growing at an impressive pace and has been growing rapidly for years but just recently became profitable and is still in full growth mode. The best choice for you depends on which of those profiles fits best with your investment style.Hail Flutie: BC celebrates 40th anniversary of Miracle in MiamiRiyadh International Philosophy Conference 2024 Concludes with a Focus on Quality of Life

Sending a gift late? It's way better than not sending one at allA gunshot fired by a known supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Bonia Polling Station in Navrongo has caused temporary chaos during ongoing voting in the region. The motive behind the gunfire is still unclear, but the incident led to immediate panic, with individuals scrambling for cover and some election officers considering abandoning their posts due to fear for their safety. Swift action was taken by the police, who arrested the individual responsible for the gunshot, a staunch political activist, and transported him to the station for further questioning. The suspect is currently assisting authorities with their investigations. Despite the disturbance, the electoral process in the Navrongo Central Constituency resumed, and voting has remained largely peaceful. Authorities have assured the public that security measures are in place to maintain order throughout the election period. More details soon...Syrian opposition fighters have reached the suburbs of the capital, Damascus, and government forces are withdrawing from the strategic city of Homs as the rebels' surprising offensive picks up speed and President Bashar Assad's whereabouts are unknown. Homs is an important intersection between Damascus and Syria’s coastal provinces that are the Syrian leader’s base of support. In Damascus, residents described a city on edge, with security forces on the streets and many shops running out of staple foods. The rapidly developing events have shaken the region. Lebanon said it was closing all its land border crossings with Syria except for one that links Beirut with Damascus. Jordan closed a border crossing with Syria, too. Eight key countries gathered with the U.N. special envoy on Syria on the sidelines of the Doha Summit for two hours of discussions Saturday night, and more will follow. The U.N. envoy seeks urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an “orderly political transition.” Here's the Latest: The mother of an Israeli man held hostage in Gaza and seen in a newly released video by Hamas says “enough with the games” and calls for more pressure on the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Einav Zangauker told a demonstration in Tel Aviv on Saturday night that like her son Matan, “there are a few dozen who are currently alive. Don’t allow them to be brought back dead in bags. Take to the streets.” Matan Zangauker, speaking under duress, appealed to the public to protest in front of Netanyahu’s home and “not let him sleep even for a minute.” Zangauker also referred to 420 days of being held by Hamas militants and said “isolation is killing us.” Police used a water cannon on the demonstrators as thousands took to the streets for the weekly anti-government protests. Two officials with Iran-backed Iraqi militias in Syria say the militias are monitoring the situation and have not made a decision to enter in support of Iran’s ally, Syrian President Bashar Assad. One of the officials said Iranian militias had withdrawn to Iraq from their positions in Syria. “All the militias are waiting to see what Bashar Assad will do in Damascus. If he resists and does not allow Damascus to fall, it is possible that the Iraqi factions will intervene for the purpose of support,” he said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter. -- Qassim Abdul-Zahra in Baghdad Multi-country discussions on Syria have ended on the sidelines of the Doha Summit. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein says the countries will issue a statement, and there will be follow-up talks “taking into consideration the practical and real situation on the ground.” He said the talks, which lasted over two hours Saturday evening, focused on how to stop the fighting. Eight key countries including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Egypt, Turkey and Iran gathered with the U.N. special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen. When asked where Syrian President Bashar Assad is, Iraq's foreign minister replied, “I don’t know.” He declined to speculate on whether Assad would be overthrown. Opposition fighters have reached the Damascus suburbs. BEIRUT — Lebanon’s Health Ministry says two Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday killed six people and wounded five others. The ministry said an airstrike on the village of Beit Leif killed five people and wounded five, while a drone strike on the village of Deir Serian killed one person. Israel’s military said it was looking into the report. Despite a ceasefire that went into effect on Nov. 27 to end the 14-month fighting between Israel and Lebanon-based Hezbollah militants that had escalated into all-out war, violations of the truce have continued. The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza says the facility came under heavy Israeli bombardment again on Saturday and three medical staff were killed. Dr. Hussam Abu Safia in a statement posted by Gaza’s Health Ministry said the hospital was hit by over 100 projectiles and bombs, and electricity was cut off. He said the surgery department and neonatal unit were hit, and he pleaded for “immediate coordination for repair operations.” Kamal Adwan is one of the last remaining hospitals in northern Gaza. Israeli forces are pressing an offensive that has almost completely sealed off the area from humanitarian aid for two months. Israel’s military said it wasn’t aware of any attack Saturday. The hospital director on Friday said Israeli strikes had killed at least 29 people including four medical staff. Israeli Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi says the military is monitoring the Syrian border to make sure that “local factions do not direct actions towards us,” adding that Israel is not intervening in the events in Syria. Israel’s military has said it is reinforcing its deployment along the border with Syria. Halevi said if “confusion” arises and actions are directed toward Israel by “local factions” taking control of parts of Syria, Israel has a strong “offensive response.” The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Syria says the U.N. is relocating non-critical staff outside the country. Adam Abdelmoula in a statement Saturday called it a precautionary measure to protect U.N. teams. “Let me emphasize—this is not an evacuation and our dedication to supporting the people of Syria remains unwavering,” Abdelmoula said. The statement did not say how many U.N. staffers were leaving Syria as opposition fighters reached the suburbs of Syria’s capital, Damascus. The statement said the fighting in Syria has displaced over 370,000 people as the humanitarian situation deteriorates, “with many seeking refuge in the northeast and others trapped in frontline areas, unable to escape.” Foreign ministers and senior diplomats from eight key countries including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Egypt, Turkey and Iran have gathered on the sidelines of the Doha Summit along with the U.N. special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, to discuss the situation in Syria. The talks continued late Saturday and no details were immediately available. Qatar, Jordan and Iraq also were part of the discussions as opposition fighters closed in on the Syrian capital, Damascus. BAGHDAD — An Iraqi government spokesperson says about 2,000 Syrian army soldiers have crossed into Iraq seeking refuge as opposition forces advance in Syria. Bassem al-Awadi said the soldiers’ equipment and weapons were registered and taken into custody by the Iraqi army. “We dealt with them according to the principle of good neighborliness and humanity,” he said Saturday. Al-Awadi also said Iraqi officials are concerned about the security of the al-Hol camp and other facilities in northeast Syria where suspected Islamic State group members and their families are detained. The facilities are guarded by U.S.-backed Kurdish forces. Al-Awadi said there is “high security coordination” between Iraqi officials and those forces to “prevent the prisoners from escaping.” Syria's army says it is fortifying its positions in the suburbs of Damascus and in the country’s south, as opposition fighters close in on the capital. The army statement on Saturday also asserted that Syria is being subjected to a “terrorist” and propaganda campaign aiming to destabilize and spread chaos. The statement also said the military is continuing with operations in areas including the central provinces of Hama and Homs, and that it has killed and wounded hundreds of opposition fighters. At least two people were wounded in a car-ramming attack in the West Bank on Saturday, according to the Israeli army and rescue services. The army said the attack took place in the area of the Fawwar refugee camp, near the city of Hebron. It said a soldier was severely wounded, and security forces were looking for the attacker. Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service said another man in his 40s suffered light injuries from shrapnel. The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack out of Gaza sparked the war there. Israel has intensified its military raids in the West Bank, targeting what it says are militants planning attacks, and there has also been a rise in Palestinian attacks on Israelis. The Israeli military says it is helping United Nations forces to head off an attack on a U.N. position in Syria close to the Israeli border. The army said in a statement Saturday that an attack was carried out by “armed individuals” on a U.N. post near the Syrian town of Hader and it was “assisting U.N. forces in repelling the attack.” On Friday, Israel’s military said it would reinforce its forces in the Golan Heights and near the border with Syria, where civil war has reignited between the government and opposition fighters. Hamas has released a video showing Israeli hostage Matan Zangauker making an emotional plea for his release and describing the conditions he and other hostages face in Gaza after being seized in the Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel. His mother, Einav, has become a symbol of the fight to bring back the hostages and is an outspoken critic of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. Matan Zangauker, speaking under duress, appealed to the public to protest in front of Netanyahu’s home and “not let him sleep even for a minute.” Zangauker also referred to 420 days of being held by Hamas militants. “We want to return before we go crazy. Isolation is killing us, and the darkness here is frightening,” he said, describing having little food and medicine and “undrinkable” water. President-elect Donald Trump has made his first extensive comments on dramatic advances by opposition fighters in Syria, saying the besieged President Bashar Assad didn’t deserve U.S. support to stay in power. “THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT,” Trump posted on the Truth Social platform on Saturday. Syrian opposition activists and regional officials have been watching closely for any indication from both the Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration of how the U.S. would handle the sudden advances against Syria’s Russian- and Iranian-allied leader. Trump condemned the overall U.S. handling of the 13-year civil war in Syria, but spoke favorably of the routing of Assad and Russian forces. ISTANBUL — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday that there was “now a new reality in Syria” following the rapid advance of rebel forces. Speaking in Gaziantep, a city less than 30 miles (48 kilometers) from the Syrian border, Erdogan said that “increasing attacks on civilians” in Syria’s northwest Idlib province “triggered the latest events like the straw that broke the camel’s back.” It was not possible for Turkey to ignore developments in a country with which it shares a lengthy border and it would not allow any threats to its national security, he added in a televised speech. “Our wish is for our neighbor Syria to attain the peace and tranquility it has been longing for for 13 years,” he told a rally of supporters. “We want to see a Syria where different identities live side by side in peace. We hope to see such a Syria in the very near future.” Erdogan claimed President Bashar Assad had erred in rebuffing Turkey’s previous efforts to establish relations, saying Damascus “could not appreciate the value of the hand Turkey extended.” Ankara has supported anti-Assad rebel groups since the early months of the conflict and hosts 3 million refugees dislodged by the fighting. While Turkey lists HTS, the group leading the latest offensive, as a terrorist organization, the Turkey-backed Syrian National Army has worked alongside it. BEIRUT — A resident of the Syrian capital of Damascus says the city is very tense as troops and members of security agencies are deployed on main streets and intersections. The resident told The Associated Press that many shops are closed and those that are open have run out of main commodities such as sugar. He added that if food products are available, some shops are selling them for a price three times higher than usual. “The situation is very strange. We are not used to that,” the resident said on condition of anonymity, fearing retributions. “People are worried whether there will be a battle (in Damascus) or not.” — Bassem Mroue in Beirut DOHA, Qatar — Russia’s foreign minister says he has met his Turkish and Iranian counterparts in Doha and that all three countries were calling for an “immediate end to hostile activities” in Syria. Russia and Iran are the chief supporters of Syria’s government, while Turkey backs opposition fighters trying to remove President Bashar Assad from power. Speaking at the annual Doha Forum, Sergey Lavrov said Russia continues to help the Syrian army confront insurgents, military via airstrikes. Asked whether Assad’s rule is threatened by the fast-moving rebel offensive, he said, “We are not in the business of guessing what’s gong to happen.” He blamed the United States and the West for the events in Syria and said, “We are very sorry for the Syrian people who became a subject of another geopolitical experiment. “We are doing everything we can not to make terrorists prevail, even if they say they are not terrorists,” Lavrov said, referring to the de facto leader of the Syrian insurgents, Abu Mohammed al-Golani, who says he has cut links with al-Qaida. His group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, is listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and United Nations. He said Russia, Iran and Turkey want the full implementation of a U.N. resolution, which endorsed a road map to peace in Syria. Resolution 2254 was adopted unanimously in December 2015. The measure called for a Syrian-led political process, starting with the establishment of a transitional governing body, followed by the drafting of a new constitution and ending with U.N.-supervised elections. Lavrov also downplayed reports that Moscow had withdrawn ships from Russia’s base in Syrian city of Tartus, saying that the vessels had left to take part in naval exercises in the Mediterranean. DOHA, Qatar — The U.S. envoy who brokered the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah says the deal has created a new opportunity for Lebanon to reshape itself. Amos Hochstein told the Doha Forum that the weakness of Hezbollah after nearly 14 months of fighting along, along with blows to its Syrian and Iranian allies, give the Lebanese military and government a chance to reassert itself. “Now is the moment with this ceasefire to rebuild Lebanon again for a much more prosperous future and stronger state institutions,” Hochstein told The Associated Press on the sidelines of the conference. He said Lebanon needs “to do its part” by rebuilding its economy, choosing a president after years of delays and strengthening its central government to attract investors. “And the international community has a requirement and a responsibility to support Lebanon after this devastating conflict and after years of Hezbollah control,” he said. Hochstein told the conference that the turning point in ceasefire efforts was Hezbollah dropping its pledge to keep fighting as long as the war in Gaza continues. He said the change in position was the result of the heavy losses inflicted on Hezbollah, and Lebanese public opinion in favor of delinking the two conflicts. He said key tests for the ceasefire will be whether Israel carries out its promised phased withdrawal from southern Lebanon over the coming two months and whether the Lebanese army is able to move into those areas. BEIRUT — Insurgents and a war monitor say opposition fighters are taking over military posts evacuated by Syrian government forces in the country’s south, bringing them closer to the capital, Damascus. An insurgent official known as Maj. Hassan Abdul-Ghani posted on the Telegram messaging app that opposition fighters are now in the town of Sanamein, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the southern outskirts of Damascus, President Bashar Assad’s seat of power. Rami Abdurrahman, who heads the Britain-based opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said insurgents have entered the town of Artouz, which is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) southwest of Damascus. Opposition fighters have captured wide parts of Syria, including several provincial capitals, since they began their offensive on Nov. 27. BEIRUT — Lebanon’s government has approved a plan to deploy more troops along the border with Israel, part of the ceasefire deal that ended the Israel-Hezbollah war. In a rare Cabinet meeting outside of Beirut, held Saturday at a military base in the southern port city of Tyre, the government also approved a draft law to reconstruct buildings destroyed during the Israel-Hezbollah war that broke out in October 2023 and ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire last week. Information Minister Ziad Makary told reporters after the meeting that the committee whose job is to monitor the ceasefire that went into effect on Nov. 27 will hold its first meeting on Monday. The committee is made up of military officials from the U.S., France, Israel and Lebanon as well as the U.N. peacekeeping force deployed along the border. As part of the ceasefire deal, during the first 60 days Israeli troops will have to withdraw from Lebanon, while Hezbollah will have to pull its heavy weapons away from the border area to north of the Litani river. The Lebanese army said this week it will begin recruiting more soldiers, apparently to deploy them along the border with Israel. BEIRUT — The Syrian army withdrew from much of southern Syria on Saturday, leaving more areas of the country, including two provincial capitals, under the control of opposition fighters, the military and an opposition war monitor said. The redeployment away from the provinces of Daraa and Sweida came as Syria’s military sent large numbers of reinforcements to defend the key central city of Homs, Syria’s third largest, as insurgents approached its outskirts. The rapid advances by insurgents are a stunning reversal of fortunes for Syria’s President Bashar Assad , who appears to be largely on his own, with erstwhile allies preoccupied with other conflicts. His chief international backer, Russia, is busy with its war in Ukraine, and Lebanon’s powerful Hezbollah, which at one point sent thousands of fighters to shore up his forces, has been weakened by a yearlong conflict with Israel. Iran, meanwhile, has seen its proxies across the region degraded by Israeli regular airstrikes. JERUSALEM — Israeli security forces killed a Palestinian man after he attacked them at a border crossing in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Saturday morning, police said. The man shot firecrackers at security forces at the checkpoint and threatened them with a knife, the police statement said. The man wore a t-shirt emblazoned with a symbol of the Islamic State militant group, according to an Associated Press reporter Israeli fire has killed at least 700 Palestinians in the West Bank since the Israel-Hamas war began last year, Palestinian health officials said. In that time, Palestinian militants have launched a number of attacks on soldiers at checkpoints and within Israel. DOHA, Qatar — The prime minister of Qatar says he has seen new momentum in Gaza ceasefire efforts since the U.S. presidential election, with the incoming Trump administration seeking an end to the conflict before it takes office. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, a key mediator in the ceasefire efforts, declined to give specifics of the negotiations but told an international conference in Doha that the gaps between the sides are not large. Qatar, which has served as a mediator throughout the 14-month war, suspended its efforts last month in frustration over the lack of progress. But Sheikh Mohammed said his government has re-engaged in recent days after determining a new willingness by both parties to reach a deal. ’We have sensed after the election that the momentum is coming back,” he told the Doha Forum on Saturday. He said has been in touch with both the outgoing Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration and found that while there are some differences in approach, both are committed to the same goal of ending the war. ’We have seen a lot of encouragement from the incoming administration in order to achieve a deal, even before the president comes to the office,” Sheikh Mohammed said. He declined to discuss details, saying he wanted to “protect the process,” but expressed hope for a deal “as soon as possible.” ’If you look at the gaps and the disagreements, they are not something substantial that really affects the agreement,” he said. CAIRO — At least 29 people were killed, including four medical staff, when Israeli strikes pummeled the area around one of the last remaining hospitals in northern Gaza, Palestinian officials said. The situation in and around the Kamal Adwan hospital is “catastrophic,” according to Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, the director of the hospital. The dead included five children and five women, according to the hospital casualty list, which was obtained by The Associated Press. Friday’s strikes also wounded 55 people including six children and the five women, according to the hospital. Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya is one of the few hospitals still partially operating in the Gaza’s northernmost province , where Israeli forces are pressing an offensive that has almost completely sealed off the area from humanitarian aid for two months. Israel’s military denied that its forces had struck the hospital or operated inside it. The army said that in the past few weeks, “coordinated efforts with international organizations have been underway in order to transfer patients, companions, and medical staff to other hospitals.” An Indonesian medical team which had been assisting in Kamal Adwan for the past week was forced to evacuate on foot after the area was surrounded by Israeli soldiers, according to a statement from the team. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the medical team’s expulsion. Dr. Rik Peeperkorn, the World Health Organization representative in the Palestinian territories, said an Israeli tank approached the hospital at around 4 a.m. Friday. Although no official Israeli evacuation order was issued, “people started to climb the wall to escape, and this panic attracted IDF (Israeli) fire,” he said. He spoke by video from Gaza to journalists in Geneva. Kamal Adwan Hospital has been struck multiple times over the past two months since Israel launched a fierce military operation in northern Gaza against Hamas militants. In October, Israeli forces raided the hospital, saying that militants were sheltering inside and arrested a number of people, including some staff. Hospital officials denied the claim. MANAMA, Bahrain — Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister has reiterated the kingdom’s call for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip. Prince Faisal bin Farhan described Israel as acting with “impunity and is getting away without punishment” in its war on Hamas there. The prince said that any permanent solution requires a two-state solution, with the Palestinians having east Jerusalem as their capital. After the speech, Prince Turki al-Faisal, a prominent royal in the kingdom who led Saudi intelligence for more than two decades and served as ambassador to the U.S. and Britain, took the stage. He harshly criticized Israel’s conduct in the wars. “Israel has become an apartheid, colonial and genocidal state,” Prince Turki said. “It is about time for the world to address that issue and take the necessary steps to bring those who are thus charged by the International Criminal Court to justice.” Israeli officials could not be immediately reached for comment on Prince Turki’s remarks. The Saudis spoke at the International Institute for Security Studies’ Manama Dialogue in Bahrain.

Croatia’s incumbent president wins most votes at polls but still faces runoffArticle content NEW YORK — Top-ranked chess player Magnus Carlsen is headed back to the World Blitz Championship on Monday after its governing body agreed to loosen a dress code that got him fined and denied a late-round game in another tournament for refusing to change out of jeans. Recommended Videos Lamenting the contretemps, International Chess Federation President Arkady Dvorkovich said in a statement Sunday that he’d let World Blitz Championship tournament officials consider allowing “appropriate jeans” with a jacket, and other “elegant minor deviations” from the dress code. He said Carlsen’s stand — which culminated in his quitting the tournament Friday — highlighted a need for more discussion “to ensure that our rules and their application reflect the evolving nature of chess as a global and accessible sport.” Carlsen, meanwhile, said in a video posted Sunday on social media that he would play — and wear jeans — in the World Blitz Championship when it begins Monday. Oh, I am definitely playing in jeans tomorrow “I think the situation was badly mishandled on their side,” the 34-year-old Norwegian grandmaster said. But he added that he loves playing blitz — a fast-paced form of chess — and wanted fans to be able to watch, and that he was encouraged by his discussions with the federation after Friday’s showdown. “I think we sort of all want the same thing,” he suggested in the video on his Take Take Take chess app’s YouTube channel. “We want the players to be comfortable, sure, but also relatively presentable.” The events began when Carlsen wore jeans and a sportcoat Friday to the Rapid World Championship, which is separate from but held in conjunction with the blitz event. The chess federation said Friday that longstanding rules prohibit jeans at those tournaments, and players are lodged nearby to make sartorial switch-ups easy if needed. An official fined Carlsen $200 and asked him to change pants, but he refused and wasn’t paired for a ninth-round game, the federation said at the time. The organization noted that another grandmaster, Ian Nepomniachtchi, was fined earlier in the day for wearing sports shoes, changed and continued to play. Carlsen has said that he offered to wear something else the next day, but officials were unyielding. He said “it became a bit of a matter of principle,” so he quit the rapid and blitz championships. In the video posted Sunday, he questioned whether he had indeed broken a rule and said changing clothes would have needlessly interrupted his concentration between games. He called the punishment “unbelievably harsh.” “Of course, I could have changed. Obviously, I didn’t want to,” he said, and “I stand by that.”

Trump calls for immediate Ukraine ceasefire, Kyiv and Moscow cite conditions “I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. World is waiting!” says Trump PARIS: US President-elect Donald Trump called on Sunday for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end “the madness”, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy and the Kremlin to list their conditions. Trump made his comments just hours after meeting Zelenskiy in Paris for their first face-to-face talks since Trump won last month’s U.S. election. Trump has vowed to bring about a negotiated end to the conflict, but so far has not provided details. “Zelensky and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, adding that Kyiv had lost some 400,000 soldiers. “There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin.” “I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help. The World is waiting!” Trump added, referring to Russian President Putin. Trump, in Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, sat down with Zelenskiy on Saturday for about an hour, along with host President Emmanuel Macron. Trump and Zelenskiy shook hands and smiled, but it was unclear how the conversation had gone. Accounts of the talks from the French and Ukrainian sides said only that the discussions had been good and productive. Zelenskiy reacted to Trump’s message on Sunday saying peace was not just a piece of paper, but needed guarantees. “When we talk about effective peace with Russia, we must first and foremost talk about effective guarantees for peace. Ukrainians want peace more than anyone else,” he said on X. “It (the war) cannot simply end with a piece of paper and a few signatures. A ceasefire without guarantees can be reignited at any moment, as Putin has already done before. To ensure that Ukrainians no longer suffer losses, we must guarantee the reliability of peace and not turn a blind eye to occupation.”South Dakota State QB Mark Gronowski to enter portal, keep eye on draft
