WASHINGTON – Sen. Kevin Cramer is among the authors of bipartisan legislation introduced Thursday, Nov. 21, to keep fixing aging infrastructure in national parks across the country. Joining the North Dakota Republican in introducing the America the Beautiful Act, which will extend critical park maintenance, were Sens. Steve Daines, R-Montana; Angus King, I-Maine; and Mark Warner, D-Virginia. ADVERTISEMENT The Great American Outdoors Act, originally signed into law by President Donald Trump in 2020, established the National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund and included $1.9 billion over five years to address the maintenance backlog across public land agencies, including the National Parks Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and others. According to a news release from Cramer’s office, the America the Beautiful Act will reauthorize the Legacy Restoration Fund and provide $2 billion for maintenance projects. Since the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, North Dakota projects in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Dakota Prairie Grasslands received significant funding to complete restoration and expansion projects, Cramer said in the news release. In TRNP, the South Loop Road is slated to reopen next summer as a result of $47 million to repair the washed-out sections and will have expanded walkways, seating and wayside exhibits, as well as repaved roadside pull-outs. Cramer visited TRNP in August to view the construction progress on the loop. The Dakota Prairie Grasslands, located near TRNP, has received multiple awards to maintain campgrounds, update the Maah Daah Hey trailhead and resurface and repair roadways with funding from the Great American Outdoors Act. Additional projects in North Dakota include trail maintenance on the National North Country Scenic Trail. “The Great American Outdoors Act brought real results to North Dakota’s outdoor recreation opportunities,” Cramer said in a statement . “Visitors to Theodore Roosevelt National Park will be able to travel the South Loop road, which washed out several years ago, and recreationists can enjoy the updated trails and campsites in the nearby grasslands. Let’s keep this momentum going by passing the America the Beautiful Act, so we maintain our national treasures.” Congress now must work together to get the bill over the finish line, the National Parks Conservation Association said. “Millions of people flock to national parks every year to experience some of our nation’s best landscapes and most significant stories,” Theresa Pierno, president and CEO of the National Parks Conservation Association, said in a statement. “National parks are icons of our country, and Americans love them. They also want to see them supported. And this bill is a promise that we will continue to take care of the places that mean so much to so many people.”

TRAI has ordered telecom companies like Jio, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea and BSNL to launch calling and messaging only plans without data. Along with this, it has also ordered to launch 10 rupees voucher. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has given a big relief to mobile customers. Actually TRAI has introduced calling and messaging only recharge plan to stop the loot of expensive recharge plans. In such a situation, telecom companies like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea will have to introduce cheap calling messaging only recharge plan. This recharge plan will be for those smartphone users who want only messaging and calling plan without data. TRAI has allowed telecom operators to launch low cost recharge voucher plan. Its price can be at least 10 rupees. Recharge plans without data will be launched In fact, today many smartphone users use the internet through Wi-Fi. Also, many smartphone users in rural areas need only calling and messaging plans, but they are forced to recharge mobile data because big telecom operators like Jio, Airtel and BSNL do not offer plans without data. In such a situation, there was a long-standing demand from customers that telecom companies should launch calling and messaging only plans without data. TRAI changed the rules TRAI, justifying the demand of customers, has ordered telecom companies to introduce messaging and calling only plans. For this, TRAI has changed the tariff rules. In such a situation, it has become mandatory for all telecom operators to launch calling and messaging plans. Also, TRAI has increased the existing validity of 90 days of special recharge coupon to 365 days. Which users will get the benefit According to TRAI’s report, about 150 million subscribers in the country use feature phones, who do not need data. For such users, recharge plans without data should be introduced. There are about 150 million 2G users in the country. Also, there are many users who use dual SIM in the phone. Plans without data can prove to be beneficial for such users. Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman toured several factories specialized in producing components for the energy sector in the Riyadh Industrial City on Wednesday. During the tour, he was accompanied by Minister of State Hamad Al-Sheikh, and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef. The tour comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts to enhance localization in the energy sector, which aims to achieve a localization rate of 75 percent in the components of the sector by 2030. The ministers and a number of senior officials were briefed on the progress of production of energy equipment and electrical panels for connection, control, automation and distribution, and factories for smart ring linking units for electrical stations. The tour of Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman included the factories of Al-Gihaz Holding Company, such as the new factory specialized in energy equipment and electrical panels, with a production capacity of 25,000 units annually. The minister was briefed on three of the main production lines located in one area, and watched a visual presentation of the rest of the lines and the high-quality production process of energy equipment and electrical panels for connection, control, automation and distribution. The new factory is a cornerstone of the company's projects in the lines of engineering, design and automation of electricity network systems, in addition to manufacturing control panels and current and voltage conversion equipment. A total of 500 engineers and employees, including 100 Saudi female employees are working in the factory. It has plans to double the current production capacity in line with Saudi Vision 2030, and within the energy sector's targets to achieve a 75 percent localization rate in the components of the sector by 2030. Prince Abdulaziz also visited Alfanar factories, where he was briefed on the production processes and advanced technologies used in them. He also listened to a detailed presentation on the company's work in the field of technology ownership and industry localization, and its effective role in increasing local content and strengthening the national economy. During his visit to Alfanar, Minister of Energy inaugurated the smart ring-connection units factory, free of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which is the first factory of its kind in the Middle East, where more than 700 Saudi female employees work. It represents a qualitative shift in the use of green technology and contributes to reducing the Kingdom's carbon footprint. The research and development team at Alfanar presented a presentation on the stages of progress made in green technology for medium voltage, and the achievements that enhance the company's position as a pioneer in innovation and technological development. Prince Abdulaziz was also briefed on the company's efforts in renewable energy projects (wind and solar), the sustainable aviation fuel facility, carbon capture and storage technologies and green hydrogen. The company's advanced technological capabilities were also reviewed, which enable it to provide sustainable and advanced solutions for energy distribution. Alfanar is primarily engaged in manufacturing a wide range of low, medium and high voltage electrical construction products, EPC solutions for conventional and renewable power plants, allied engineering services and design engineering. < Previous Page Next Page >BMW praises Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology on social mediaLast week, traders made profits from the Trump trade. This week they reversed their positions. I expect further upside into the Thanksgiving holiday. The market's performance was even more impressive considering the disappointing earnings from the number one AI player, Nvidia. The semiconductor giant reported stellar third-quarter earnings this week, but they were just not good enough to keep the stock’s upside price momentum going. Company management said supply chain issues reduced the growth rate in sales to the slowest in seven quarters. All that means, in my opinion, is that revenue will be boosted down the road when the bottlenecks are resolved. But in this market, no one is willing to wait around for that. The damage to the stock price was minor. However, Alphabet did tumble more than 6 percent after the Department of Justice moved to break up its vast technological empire. The DOJ asked a judge to force Google to sell off its Chrome browser. Short-term traders dumped the stock. To me, the chances that anything will come of this action anytime soon is just about zero. There is even a question of whether the incoming administration will pursue the case at all. Yet, it continues to sell off. This is the world of short-term equity markets that we live in. Long-term investors can profit from some of these trader temper tantrums. The biggest story in financial markets this week has been the steady climb in bitcoin and everything crypto. Last week I mentioned that bitcoin should see $100,000 in short order. Early Friday morning it topped $99,452. Bitcoin has turned out to be the Trump trade. A prominent crypto lawyer is evaluating potential candidates to succeed Gary Gensler as chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This added fuel to the fires that have lighted up all things crypto. Gensler, who has been the main impediment to the further development of the cryptocurrency market, announced he will be resigning on Jan. 20 even though his tenure runs through 2026, Two of the strongest candidates, Brian Brooks and Paul Atkins, are leading crypto advocates. Appointing the right candidate could convince many more economic actors that the time has come to get involved in this area. Gold has also reversed from a near 10 percent pullback since the election results although other metals have not fared as well. The Biden Administration's pivot in allowing Ukraine to use US missiles in Russia has caused a surge in geopolitical risk and a rush into gold as a safe-haven asset. Russian President Vladimir Putin has long said that using long-range, Army Tactical Missiles (AT-ACMS) would represent the crossing of a red line. Traders have also begun to have second thoughts about the chances for further interest rate cuts by the Fed. Traders have also begun to have second thoughts about the chances for further interest rate cuts by the Fed. The odds are no better than 50/50 at this point that the Fed will cut rates again in its December meeting. Worries that inflation may worsen under the new administration have convinced the bond market and possibly some members of the Federal Open Market Committee that holding off for the moment on rate cuts may be the wise move. I have been warning readers that I expect the Consumer Price Index to show further gains in inflation this quarter. That turned out to be true in the last month, and I suspect we will see the same again in the next report. Momentum, rotation and volatility; there was something for everyone over the last few days. I expect that to continue. Technology is no longer the only game in town and this week's top gainers — energy, crypto, gold, industrials and financials — are proof in the pudding. Markets are stretched but have been in that condition for a while now. Thanksgiving week is usually a good time for equities, so we could see stocks grind higher until the beginning of December. At that point, a pullback wouldn't surprise me. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.

TORONTO — Canada's main stock index lost more than 100 points Tuesday ahead of an expected interest rate cut Wednesday, while U.S. markets were also down. The S&P/TSX composite index closed down 121.09 points at 25,504.33. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 154.10 points at 44,247.83. The S&P 500 index was down 17.94 points at 6,034.91, while the Nasdaq composite was down 49.45 points at 19,687.24. “Relative to the churn we have seen in the markets the last few days ... today being a little bit of a boring day would be fairly welcome for many investors,” said Stephen Duench, vice-president and portfolio manager for AGF Investments Inc. Wednesday is set to be more exciting, with an interest rate cut expected in Canada and important consumer inflation data coming in the U.S. “I do expect a little bit more fireworks tomorrow,” said Duench. The Bank of Canada is widely expected to announce an outsized cut Wednesday of half a percentage point, he said. “Anything other than that would be a surprise.” The U.S. Federal Reserve has its last decision of the year scheduled for next week, and market watchers are leaning toward a smaller quarter-percentage-point cut there, said Duench. It would be the third cut this year after the central bank hiked rates to a two-decade high to fight inflation. The inflation report will be the last significant data point before the central bank’s decision, Duench said. If the inflation report shows price growth is proving more stubborn than expected, that could change the Fed’s thinking on rates next week, he said. “Maybe that's part of the reason we've seen churn in the market the last few days in the U.S.” Beneath the surface, there was some movement in the tech sector, where Oracle sank 6.7 per cent after its latest earnings report missed expectations. Meanwhile, Google's stock price rose by more than five per cent. The company on Tuesday unveiled its new chip meant for quantum computing. Duench said after the advent of artificial technology led a rally earlier this year, quantum computing could be another frontier for investors to keep an eye on. AS 2024 comes to a close, China's cooperation with the global semiconductor industry is witnessing a series of positive developments. Semiconductor giants such as Infineon, NXP and STMicroelectronics have announced plans to continue expanding their presence in China, including setting up new production lines or collaborating with Chinese companies to manufacture chips. Semiconductor companies from Japan and South Korea have also expressed their intention to increase chip procurement from China this month, with the goal of building a strong supply chain. In addition, data shows that from January to October this year, China's semiconductor exports reached 931.17 billion yuan ($128 billion), an increase of 21.4 percent year on year, making it a major highlight of this year's overall export performance. At the same time, the United States has also frequently interfered with the normal order of the global semiconductor supply chain. Earlier this month, the US Department of Commerce introduced a new round of export controls on China's chip industry. Register to read this story and more for free . For the time being, the trees along Goodhue Boulevard will remain. The city on Tuesday withdrew its application to the Nebraska Capitol Environs Commission to remove 24 trees along Goodhue Boulevard that line the south corridor leading to the state Capitol. “Lincoln’s quality of life is strengthened when our community forest is healthy and thriving,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Maggie Stuckey-Ross. “Our department looks forward to working with the public on a plan for Goodhue Boulevard that emphasizes the safety of the public and the health of our urban canopy. The withdrawal of this application allows us to continue the community conversation and move forward together with a strong plan.” The plan, to remove the old and dying trees between A and H streets and replace them with 46 new trees along Goodhue Boulevard and an additional 24 trees at intersections along that corridor, upset many of the residents in the area. People are also reading... They worried about the loss of the tree canopy in the area and how it would affect residents' utility bills and wildlife and maintained that many of the trees have additional life in them if they are pruned, mulched and watered. City officials said the trees were old, had health issues and posed a safety risk to residents. Parks and Recreation officials had planned to use $140,000 in federal dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act to remove and replace the trees, money that must be spent by the end of 2025. Stuckey-Ross said that money will now be used for another project, though she doesn't know what yet. Going forward, coming up with a way to pay for a new plan for Goodhue will be one of the issues the city needs to address, she said. In October, the city had made an application with the Nebraska Capitol Environs Commission for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the removal of the trees. In its application, city staff noted that tree removals due to poor health do not typically necessitate a certificate from the commission, but that the Goodhue tree removal project merited special consideration based on the commission’s design oversight of the corridor. Many opponents to the plan testified at the first commission meeting, and Parks and Recreation officials then attended a Near South Neighborhood Association meeting to further discuss the plan and postponed the commission vote in November. The commission was scheduled to vote on the plan Friday. Vish Reddi, president of the Near South Neighborhood Association, which had opposed the plan to remove 24 trees, said he was pleased with the decision. "I just want to really congratulate city officials for listening to the neighborhood and the residents," he said. "This really establishes trust. It should give residents a lot of hope in our city officials." Marcie Young, a neighborhood association board member, said she's gratified they're willing to go back to the drawing board and come up with a plan that has consensus. The neighborhood association, she said, has donated around $70,000 to neighborhood parks in the Near South, so it was important they had a voice in this discussion. "I think there's an understanding now about how important community involvement needs to be with the parks department's decisions about trees in this city, in particular with older neighborhoods that have the oldest and biggest trees." She said she could see a group organizing at a community level to advocate for and help care for city trees. Parks and Recreation officials say they anticipate continued community engagement as they develop a new plan for Goodhue Boulevard that prioritizes public safety and the health of the urban canopy. Stuckey-Ross said it will be important to have all the stakeholders at the table. "Honestly, I'm not sure what this looks like," she said. "I do know we can work together on a plan we can all share and all support." Daily Minute: Changes to mental health coverage; airlines still interested; NU Bowl Game announced.
