Same glitz and glamour for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and perhaps another Verstappen championshipCarlos Augusto and Alessandro Bastoni warn Inter must ‘forget last season’ and the Scudetto, because represent ‘important points.’ It was a hard-fought encounter at San Siro, the final test before Christmas, but they emerged with all three points thanks to the Carlos Augusto towering header on a Hakan Calhanoglu corner and stoppage-time Marcus Thuram screamer into the top corner. “I am happy, but as I always say, the most important thing is that Inter get the victory. We knew it was tough and we picked up the three points,” “We have to forget last season, there are many strong teams competing this year, but I have faith in my teammates that we’ll challenge to the end, I have the best teammates in the world.” Carlos Augusto, who was part of a totally reshuffled defence amid injuries, also proved decisive at the other end with a goal-saving interception to stop the Edoardo Goldaniga tap-in. Due to the absence of Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard, with Stefan de Vrij only fit for the bench, Bastoni moved into the centre of the back three with Carlos Augusto on the left. “These are important points, especially in games where we might not be at 100 per cent and are missing key players,” Bastoni told Sky Sport Italia. “We are playing a lot of matches, we’re keeping the focus high and we just need to keep going. We’ve got Cagliari on December 28, then we fly to Saudi Arabia, so it’s going to be a bit of a strain. “It is important we get all the players fit again so that we can rotate more.” Inter have a more , because they are in the Supercoppa Italiana against Atalanta in Saudi Arabia, then possibly the Final too a few days later. They are also battling for a Champions League top eight finish and still have a Serie A game in hand to be played against Fiorentina, which probably won’t be until February.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Deshawn Purdie threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to O'Mega Blake for the go-ahead score and Charlotte defeated Florida Atlantic 39-27 on Saturday in a game that matched two new interim coaches. Charlotte (4-7, 3-4 American Athletic Conference) fired Biff Poggi on Monday and Tim Brewster took over. FAU (2-9, 0-7) fired Tom Ferman, also on Monday, with Chad Lunsford taking charge. After Blake's third touchdown catch of the game that came with 5:25 left, the 49ers extended their lead when Tyriq Starks was strip-sacked by Ja'Qurious Conley and 335-pound Katron Kevans carried it 22 yards into the end zone. Blake made five catches for a career-high 205 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown. Purdie was 16 of 30 for a career-best 396 yards passing with the three scores plus an interception. The 49ers only rushed for 46 yards. Stephen Rusnak kicked four field goals. Starks was 12-of-23 passing for 179 yards including a 65-yard score to Omari Hayes in the final minute of the third quarter to get FAU within six of the 49ers. CJ Campbell rushed 58 yards to score early in the fourth quarter and the Owls had a 27-26 lead. Campbell finished with 150 yards on 21 carries. "As Trump reshapes the nation in his image, some of his supporters seem inclined to turn cautionary tales on their head, empathizing with villains or antiheroes to such a degree that they miss the point of these stories entirely," wrote Serwer — including when the writers of the stories make it completely obvious. For example, " One undecided voter told a New York Times focus group earlier this year that Trump is 'the antihero, the Soprano, the ‘Breaking Bad,’ the guy who does bad things, who is a bad guy but does them on behalf of the people he represents.'" But the audience isn't supposed to sympathize with the mob boss Tony Soprano even on that level in "The Sopranos," he noted. "Tony is a murderer whose greed and ambition harm the people he claims to love. He is not a moral exemplar, nor is he intended to be; his selfishness helps no one else and is destructive to all around him. The same is true of Walter White, the protagonist of Breaking Bad , who at one point in the show literally looks at the camera and says of his crimes, 'I did it for me.'" ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: Senate Dems consider whether Biden should ‘clear the slate’ and pardon Trump Similarly, tech billionaire Elon Musk had another misguided analogy for his enthusiasm about former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for Trump's attorney general, before he withdrew amid renewed scrutiny into the allegations he committed child sex trafficking. "He is the Judge Dredd America needs to clean up a corrupt system and put powerful bad actors in prison," he said. Judge Dredd, a comic book character who has appeared in films and video games, is a "jackbooted fascist" and never portrayed as anything else, noted Serwer. "Generally speaking, one’s model for justice should not be a fascist invented in part to illustrate the distinction between elite impunity and the brutality that ordinary people face. (Were Dredd’s zero tolerance for lawbreaking evenly applied to obscenely wealthy scofflaws like Musk himself, it would surely be less appealing to him.)" A major story of the last decade of American culture, Serwer concluded, has been "moral degeneracy" of this sort. "What looks like declining media literacy may be something much worse — an affirmation of the underlying values in dystopian literature that inevitably lead to the dystopia itself."
Century-old department store Nordstrom has agreed to be acquired and taken private by Nordstrom family members and a Mexican retail group in a $6.25 billion deal with the industry being squeezed by discount chains and other competition. Public companies are under a lot more scrutiny and if private, the Nordstrom may have more leeway in reviving a department store chain that has been attempting to reinvigorate sales for years. Nordstrom shareholders will receive $24.25 in cash for each share of Nordstrom common stock, or about $4 billion in all, representing a 42% premium on the company's stock as of March 18, when reports of a potential transaction was reported by the media. The acquiring group will also pick up more than $2 billion in Nordstrom debt. The traditional department stores have suffered in the face of withering competition from giants like Walmart and Target, as well as a host of fast-fashion bands and Amazon.com . Nordstrom rivals Macy's and Kohl's have been pressured by major investors to make huge changes in order to return more profit to shareholders. Sales at Nordstrom have essentially flatlined over the past decade or so and it announced last year that it was closing all of its Canadian stores and cutting 2,500 jobs as it winds down operations in the country. Nordstrom first announced plans to expand to Canada in 2012 and opened its first store in Calgary at CF Chinook Centre in September 2014. The offer announced Monday tops the previous $23-per-share bid that the Nordstrom family and Mexican retail group, El Puerto de Liverpool, made in September. The board also plans to authorize a special dividend of up to 25 cents per share, based on Nordstrom’s cash on hand immediately prior to and contingent on the close of the transaction. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2025, at which time the company's shares will no longer trade publicly. “While a change in ownership does not automatically remedy all of the problems with the department store operation, it will allow the family and their backers to take a long-term view of the business and make necessary investments and changes away from the short-term scrutiny of public markets,” wrote Neil Saunders, Managing Director of GlobalData, in a note to clients. Nordstrom’s board of directors unanimously approved the the proposed transaction, with members Erik and Pete Nordstrom, part of the Nordstrom family taking over the company — recusing themselves from that vote. Following the close of the transaction, the Nordstrom family will have a majority ownership stake in the company. Erik and Pete Nordstrom are the fourth-generation leadership at the Seattle retailer, which was founded in 1901 as a shoe store. Erik is the company’s chief executive and Peter is president. After opening 23 new stores so far this year, the company now operates a combined 381 Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in the U.S. Nordstrom shares fell about 1.5% Monday, but they are up 34% this year on rumors of a family takeover. The company's stock is still down considerably from post-pandemic highs above $40 per share. In May of this year, Bruce Nordstrom, a retail executive who helped expand his family’s Pacific Northwest department store chain into an upscale national brand, died at age 90 . He was one of several Nordstrom family members who in 2017 made a push to take the company private, proposing to buy out the 70% of the department store’s stock they didn’t already own. Those talks failed in 2018 but earlier this year, his sons started another series of buyout negotiations , leading to Monday's announcement.None
