AP News Summary at 7:26 p.m. ESTMinister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has fired back at the former governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili, saying that “an elder statesman should not be a trader and a sycophant all the time.” A statement signed by the FCT Minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, on Sunday, said Wike spoke at the Special Thanksgiving Service organised by the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Oro-Igwe/Eliogbolo Archdeaconry Church of the Holy Spirit, Eliozu Parish, Port Harcourt, on Sunday. Olayinka quoted Wike as saying that it was unfortunate that somebody who is supposed to be seen as an elder statesman and called a father can reduce himself to a sycophant and a trader. He asked; “Must you be a trader all the time? As governor for eight years, what else are you looking for?” The Minister said; “You know, I didn’t want to say anything. But somebody called me last night, and told me what someone said in the social media. I said until I read it myself. This morning, I read in the newspapers what our former governor, Sir Dr Peter Odili, said. “What did he say? He said that the present governor has been able to stop one man who wanted to convert Rivers State to his personal estate. “Between him and myself, who has turned Rivers State to his personal estate? His wife is a chairman of Governing Council, his daughter is a Commissioner, his other daughter is a Judge, and he is the general overseer. Who has now turned Rivers State to his private estate? I am sure if care is not taken, if there is a chance, he can even arrange a marriage for the governor. “It was his nephew, his late senior brother’s son that was recommended for Commissioner. He took the slot and gave it to his own daughter. Someone who didn’t remember to stand for the son of his late elder brother, is that an elder statesman?” Speaking further, the FCT Minister said it was painful that Dr Odili, out of political sycophancy, has forgotten all that he said in the past, adding that; “All of you here remember when I was governor, this same Odili praised me to high heaven. In fact, he said then that all past governors in Rivers State combined did not do better than me. “In 2007, after he left office, he couldn’t come near power in the State because Amaechi was the governor then. He was gone! “Like somebody said that God will use someone to lift up someone. When I came in as governor in 2015, I won’t use the word resurrected, but I brought him back to life. “All of us know about Pamo University. But for us, there wouldn’t have been anything called Pamo University. Rivers State was sponsoring 100 students per session and for every semester, each of the students was paying nothing less than N5m. Then, Rivers people were attacking me up and down. “I personally called Julius Berger to build a mansion for him to live. He was calling everyone to the house then, telling them, come and see what Wike has done for me. Wike has shown me love. He was taking them round the house. “Now, because you have organised a Christmas Carol for the governor, I didn’t say you should not do your Christmas Carol. But why reduce yourself to such a laughing stock. People will still see it on television how he was telling the whole world then how God used me to bring him back to life politically. “Why not do your Christmas Carol, collect what you can collect and leave me alone? “The governor that all of us made has not spent one year in office and the same Odili was already saying that the governor has beaten the records of all the past governors of Rivers State. “When I was there, he said I had surpassed the records of all the past governors, including himself. What can he even show that he did in his eight years as governor? But a governor has not spent one year, you are saying he has done more than all the past governors. “You spent eight years as governor and someone who hasn’t spent one year has surpassed your records, what manner of elder talk like that? Is that what an elder statesman should be known for? “When I was governor, my pictures were everywhere in his house. Sitting room, bedroom, kitchen, even in the toilet, my picture was everywhere. But today, all the pictures have been removed.” Asking what can be learned from such a sycophantic elder statesman, Wike said; “What can I learn from this kind of elder? What kind of advice can one get from him. This moment you are saying something, the next moment you are saying something else. “You see, if your children begin to ask you, is this not the same man you were praising before? What would you tell them?” On the state’s governorship issue, the Minister asked; “When I was plotting who will be governor after me, was he (Odili) there? Then, he was complaining about this governor, saying that he couldn’t stand before the public to talk. But today, he is organising Christmas Carol for the same governor he was against then. “He has forgotten all that he said in the past. I named this after you, I named that after your wife. What have I not done? “You said we should not be part of the government, we have left. We are managing, you have taken assembly money, they are not dying of hunger and they will not die of hunger. We are okay. I’m focusing on my job in Abuja and all these sycophancy won’t take him to the level I have attained. “This is a man who wanted to run for president then, he didn’t have the balls, he chickened out. Simply because Obasanjo said no, he will not contest, he ran away. Because of him, I never invited Obasanjo to Rivers State to commission projects. I felt it will humiliate him.”

(AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau returned home Saturday after his meeting with Donald Trump without assurances the president-elect will back away from threatened tariffs on all products from the major American trading partner. Trump called the talks “productive” but signaled no retreat from a pledge that Canada says unfairly lumps it in with Mexico over the flow of drugs and migrants into the United States. After the leaders’ hastily arranged dinner Friday night at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Trudeau spoke of “an excellent conversation” but offered no details. Trump said in a Truth Social post later Saturday that they discussed “many important topics that will require both Countries to work together to address.” For issues in need of such cooperation, Trump cited fentanyl and the “Drug Crisis that has decimated so many lives as a result of Illegal Immigration," fair trade deals "that do not jeopardize American Workers” and the U.S. trade deficit with its ally to the north. Trump asserted that the prime minister had made “a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation” of American families from fentanyl from China reaching the United States through its neighbors. The U.S., he said, “will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic.” The Republican president-elect has threatened to impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders when he takes office in January. Dortmund rises to 4thBy Luciana Magalhaes SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Brazilian financial tech firm StoneCo has received multiple nonbinding offers for its software unit Linx, but the bids so far are below what it paid for the asset in 2020, according to three people familiar with the negotiations. StoneCo, which is listed in New York, bought Linx for 6.7 billion reais ($1.14 billion) four years ago. As of now, 20 potential bidders have signed non-disclosure agreements to have access to information regarding the sale, two of the people told Reuters. The companies include Brazilian software firm Totvs SA and Canada's Constellation Software, according to the same sources. Of the 20, six firms have made non-binding offers, the sources said. Totvs this week confirmed an ongoing process which may result in a nonbinding proposal. The firm said it has not yet made an offer to buy Linx. Constellation did not immediately reply to requests for comment. StoneCo declined to comment. A person familiar with the bidding process said some offers made so far were more than 50% lower than what StoneCo paid for Linx four years ago. Another source said there were bids higher than that, noting that StoneCo would probably not consider selling Linx for much less than 5 billion reais. Reuters reported in September that Stone had hired investment banks J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley to sell Linx. The company later confirmed it had hired advisers to explore options regarding its software business, without setting a deadline for any kind of deal. Stone is in a comfortable financial position and has no urgency to sell Linx, one of the people familiar with the talks said. The Vikings were leading 27-10 with 7 minutes left in the game but they ended up squeaking out a 27-25 victory to move to 14-2 on the season A Whole Lot Of Nothing The Vikings’ defense forced a fumble on the Packers’ 5th play of their 1st offensive drive. The Vikings’ offense settled for a punt that pinned the Packers deep in their territory. On the following drive, the Vikings’ defense forced a 3-and-out, and the Packers punted. The Vikings were moving the ball on their next until a couple of incompletions stalled the drive. They chose to send out Reichard for a 57-yard field goal attempt. Unfortunately, he was just short as he hit the crossbar and missed. The Flood Gates Begin To Open The Packers’ following drive had them moving down the field with a vengeance. There was a questionable low block call on Harrison Smith to extend the Packers’ drive. The Packers settled for a field goal after a goal-line stand by the Vikings’ defense. The Packers led 3-0 with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Aaron Jones got things going in the run game for the Vikings on their next offensive drive. Sam Darnold found Jordan Addison for a few completions. However, Jalen Nailor got wide-open for a 31-yard TD pass from Sam Darnold. Will Reichard made the extra point and the Vikings led 7-3 with just under 12 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Vikings Get Close To Another Touchdown But Settle for a Field Goal Darnold got big completions to Hockenson and Nailor. There was a big pass interference call on Keisean Nixon that extended the Vikings’ drive. Reichard nailed a short field goal attempt after Darnold had overthrown Jefferson in the endzone. Vikings led 10-3 with just over 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Packers Start Moving The Ball But Stall, Packers’ Penalty Helps Vikings Make Field Goal The Packers were moving the ball against the Vikings until an illegal formation penalty against a Packers’ WR stalled the drive. The Vikings got a huge completion from Darnold to Hockenson. Sam Darnold took a big sack that moved the Vikings out of field goal range. They got another big completion to Hockenson to get back into field goal range but they had to use a timeout to save time for the field goal attempt. The Packers got an offsides penalty so the Vikings got another chance at a field goal after Reichard Missed the 55-yard field goal attempt. The Packers took a timeout to try to ice Reichard but then Reichard made the 50-yard attempt. The Vikings led 13-3 going into halftime. The Vikings’ Offense Starts the Second Half With A Quick TD Drive, and Green Bay Forces the First Turnover Darnold got completions to Nailor and Jefferson. The drive was capped off with a beautiful pass from Darnold to Addison in the endzone. The Vikings led 20-3 with just under 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The Vikings’ defense made a stand and forced a 3-and-out by the Packers. Packers’ punter Whelan was only able to get a 29-yard punt to MIN-30. The pass protection failed Darnold, he got hit hard and threw an INT to Carrington Valentine. The Packers’ offense was able to take advantage of the turnover as Josh Jacobs ran it into the endzone. The Vikings still lead 20-10 with just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Vikings’ Offense Recovers From INT, Cam Akers Takes Screen Pass To The House Darnold completed longer passes to Aaron Jones, Justin Jefferson, and Addison. Jones had a couple of bigger runs before the Vikings ran a screen to Cam Akers for a TD. After a successful extra point attempt by Reichard, the Vikings led 27-10 with 51 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. The Packers Move The Ball Until An Illegal Formation Penalty Stalls The Drive The Packers were able to convert on a 3rd down attempt and were moving down the field. The Vikings’ defense came up big again and forced the Packers to punt. The Vikings started their next offensive drive hot when Darnold completed a 37-yard pass to Justin Jefferson. However, their drive ultimately stalled out after a run for loss by Ty Chandler and an incomplete pass from Darnold that was intended for Jefferson. The Vikings settled for another field goal attempt, this one being from 43 yards out. Unfortunately, Reichard missed just enough to hit the left upright and the ball bounced away from the uprights. The Packers Take Advantage Of Missed Field Goal, Get Their Second TD of Game The Packers started their next drive at their 33-yard line. After a second down sack by Blake Cashman, it looked like the Vikings were ready to close out the game and have an easy double-digit victory. However, that could not be further from the truth as Jordan Love completed consecutive passes to Bo Melton and Tyler Kraft. This moved them down to the 19-yard line and Josh Jacobs ran it into the endzone for a touchdown. Fortunately for the Vikings, there was an offensive holding penalty called against the Packers and the points were taken off of the board. Unfortunately for the Vikings, the Packers continued moving the ball down the field and found the endzone. This time it was Emanuel Wilson who found paydirt for the Packers. They chose to go for two and their attempt was successful due to pass from Love to Romeo Doubs. The Vikings still led at this point but it was only 27-18 with just over 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Vikings’ Next Offensive Drive Was A Mess The Vikings’ following offensive drive was marred with penalties and poor execution. Darnold was sacked and fumbled the ball until the officials reviewed the play and reversed the fumble ruling, making it an incomplete pass. Cam Akers kept moving things on the ground before a big pass to Jefferson, which was called back on an offensive holding penalty. Darnold missed on a pass intended for Addison, and the Vikings were forced to punt. Packers Continue Their Comeback Efforts, But Come Up Short The Packers’ next drive started well enough for the Vikings in that Dallas Turner was able to corral Love for a sack. Jordan Love had a couple of connections to Doubs before ultimately connecting with Malik Heath for a touchdown. They were successful on the point after attempt and the score was 27-25, with the Vikings hanging on by a thread. The Vikings successfully ran out the clock with a couple of passes, a run by Akers, a pass to Akers, and Darnold knelt the ball three times to get the clock to hit triple zeroes. The Vikings came out on top and the Vikings and Lions will be playing for the NFC North crown in next week’s matchup. They will be playing at Ford Field on either the 4th or 5th of January.
