LONDON: Brighton had most of the chances but could not find the net in a 0-0 draw with Brentford that extended the south coast club’s winless run in the Premier League to six games on Friday. It was a frustrating night for the home side and especially Julio Enciso. The Paraguay striker had a host of opportunities to score but couldn’t make them count. Along with Southampton, Brentford has the worst away record in the league with seven losses and two draws and it was easy to see why in this toothless performance. Brentford had an early goal from Yoane Wissa ruled out for offside and, although it came a bit more into the game in the second half, it failed to pressure Icelandic goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson, who made his Premier League debut eight minutes before halftime when Mark Flekken went off with a thigh injury. One bright spot for the home side was the return of winger Solly March. He came on as a late substitute to make his first appearance for Brighton since injuring a knee against Manchester City 14 months ago. The result leaves Brighton in 10th place with 26 points, one spot and two points ahead of the Bees.Eye Tracking Sensors and Modules for AR and VR Market Set for Exceptional Growth from 2024 to 2032

Artificial intelligence. Abortion. Guns. Marijuana. Minimum wages. Name a hot topic, and chances are good there’s a new law about it taking effect in 2025 in one state or another. Many of the laws launching in January are a result of legislation passed this year. Others stem from ballot measures approved by voters. Some face legal challenges. Here’s a look at some of the most notable state laws taking effect: California, home to Hollywood and some of the largest technology companies, is seeking to and put some parameters around social media stars. New laws seek to prevent the use of digital replicas of Hollywood actors and performers without permission and allow the estates of dead performers to sue over unauthorized AI use. Parents who profit from social media posts featuring their children will be required to set aside some earnings for their young influencers. A new law also allows children to sue their parents for failing to do so. New social media restrictions in several states face court challenges. Related Articles A Florida law bans children under 14 accounts and requires parental consent for ages 14 and 15. But enforcement is being delayed because of a lawsuit filed by two associations for online companies, with a hearing scheduled for late February. A new Tennessee law also to open accounts on social media. NetChoice, an industry group for online businesses, is challenging the law. Another new state law requires porn websites to verify that visitors are at least 18 years old. But the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult entertainment industry, has filed a challenge. Several new California measures aimed at are also being challenged, including one requiring large social media platforms to remove deceptive content related to elections and another allowing any individual to sue for damages over the use of AI to create . In a first nationally, California will start enforcing a law prohibiting school districts from adopting policies that require staff to notify parents if their . The law was a priority for Democratic lawmakers who wanted to halt such policies passed by several districts. Many states have passed laws since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a nationwide right to the procedure in 2022. One of the latest is the Democratic-led state of Delaware. A law there will require the state employee health plan and Medicaid plans for lower-income residents , copayments or other cost-sharing requirements. A new Minnesota law prohibits guns with “binary triggers” that allow for more rapid fire, causing a weapon to fire one round when the trigger is pulled and another when it is released. In Delaware, a law adds colleges and universities to a list of school zones where guns are prohibited, with exceptions for those working in their official capacity such as law officers and commissioned security guards. Kentucky is becoming the latest state to let people use . To apply for a state medical cannabis card, people must get written certification from a medical provider of a qualifying condition, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, epilepsy, chronic nausea or post-traumatic stress disorder. Nearly four-fifths of U.S. states have now legalized medical marijuana. Minimum wage workers in more than 20 states are due to receive raises in January. The highest minimum wages will be in Washington, California and Connecticut, all of which will top $16 an hour after modest increases. The largest increases are scheduled in Delaware, where the minimum wage will rise by $1.75 to $15 an hour, and in Nebraska, where a in 2022 will add $1.50 to the current minimum of $12 an hour. Twenty other states still follow the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. In Oregon, using drugs on public transit will be considered a misdemeanor crime of interfering with public transportation. While the measure worked its way through the legislature, multiple transportation officials said drug use on buses and trains, and at transit stops and stations, was making passengers and drivers feel less safe. In Missouri, law enforcement officers have spent the past 16 months issuing warnings to motorists that handheld cellphone use is illegal. Starting with the new year, penalties will kick in: a $150 fine for the first violation, progressing to $500 for third and subsequent offenses and up to 15 years imprisonment if a driver using a cellphone cause an injury or death. But police must notice a primary violation, such as speeding or weaving across lanes, to cite motorists for violating the cellphone law. Montana is the only state that hasn’t , according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Tenants in Arizona will no longer have to pay , thanks to the repeal of a law that had allowed cities and towns to impose such taxes. While a victory for renters, the new law is a financial loss for governments. An analysis by Arizona’s nonpartisan Joint Legislative Budget Committee estimated that $230 million would be lost in municipal tax revenue during the first full fiscal year of implementation. Meanwhile Alabama will offer tax credits to businesses that help employees with child care costs. Kansas is eliminating its 2% sales tax on groceries. It also is by dropping the top tax rate, increasing a credit for child care expenses and exempting all Social Security income from taxes, among other things. Taxpayers are expected to save about $320 million a year going forward. An Oklahoma law expands voting privileges to people who have been convicted of felonies but had their sentences discharged or commuted, including commutations for crimes that have been reclassified from felonies to misdemeanors. Former state Sen. George Young, an Oklahoma City Democrat, carried the bill in the Senate. “I think it’s very important that people who have gone through trials and tribulations in their life, that we have a system that brings them back and allows them to participate as contributing citizens,” Young said.Jimmy Carter, the 39th US president, has died at 100Suppose you believe that your Social Security benefits only include the monthly money you receive from the Social Security Administration (SSA). In that case, you are underestimating the value generated by all of the processes and policies that are implemented and constantly updated without being directly communicated to you. The Social Security Administration has challenges maintaining its service level as its operating budget shrinks and Americans’ needs grow. Without making any modifications, it will go out of business sooner rather than later. However, those changes will undoubtedly influence your Social Security check, and knowing about them beforehand allows you to prepare or, better still, pressure your officials to accept or disapprove them so that your needs are met. Here, we’ll summarize some of them so you may get a jump start in the new year. Who is going to oversee your Social Security benefits? Martin J. O’Malley served as the SSA Commissioner from December 20th, 2023, to November 29th, 2024. During his eleven-month tenure, he oversaw improvements that decreased wait times from 24 to 13 minutes and increased access to SSA programs, particularly reducing qualifying restrictions for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program . However, its tenure has finished, and Carolyn W. Colvin has been appointed acting commissioner. She has previous experience in this post, serving as an acting commissioner during the Obama administration. Unfortunately, his time may be cut short, as President Trump is set to nominate a new individual for the position once Congress approves it. For the time being, he has nominated Frank Bisignano, an American businessman well-known for his roles as Chairman, President, and CEO in the technology and financial industries, respectively. His most notable achievements involve organizations such as Finserv, First Data Corporation, and JPMorgan Chase. There is an opportunity to analyze how his private sector experience will help streamline SSA benefits and address the agency’s issues. How will customer service impact your Social Security benefits? There will be two changes in how the Social Security Administration deals with its pensioners. They will affect your Social Security benefits. The first is more operational, and it concerns a shift in the methodology used by the SSA to attend to in-person beneficiaries. Beginning January 6th, 2025, the SSA will introduce a mandatory appointment system. You can still visit your local SSA office to have your questions about Social Security checks answered. However, after that date, the only method to be served will be to request an appointment via their national line, 800-772-1213, or by visiting your local office. The second modification may raise some concerns. It means a reduction in the scope of SSA services. It began with a hiring freeze on November 21st, 2024. This measure was necessary since Congress denied the request for additional cash from the federal budget. The SSA is experiencing operational challenges since it requires additional manpower and IT investments to save money. Without further funding, it will be forced to cut its physical presence or apply furloughs for present employees. Hopefully, this is not going to impact any of the Social Security payments . How much will your Social Security benefits increase? Starting January 1st (or December 31st, if you are an SSI member), the new Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) will take effect not just on the Social Security benefits that will be delivered from that point forward but also on other aspects of the SSA’s processes. The current COLA boost is computed using increases in the CPI-W (Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers) that occurred in the third quarter of this year (July, August, and September) and reflects the drop in inflation from last year. As a result, the defined amount was fixed at a 2.5% increase. What other impacts will COLA have on your Social Security benefits? COLA will also affect Social Security benefits by increasing other values, such as the maximum taxable earnings (from $168,600 in 20204 to $176,100 in 2025), the retirement earnings test exempt amounts (from $22,320 in 2024 to $23,400 in 2025), and even income and asset limits if we are referring to the SSI program.

Fox News Flash top sports headlines are here. Check out what's clicking on Foxnews.com. Saquon Barkley ’s magical 2024 season with the Philadelphia Eagles continued Sunday as he became the ninth player to ever rush for 2,000 yards or more in the win over the Dallas Cowboys. Barkley now has 2,005 yards rushing on the season after going for 167 on 31 carries in the 41-7 rout of the Cowboys , which clinched the NFC East title for Philadelphia. Barkley reached the milestone in the fourth quarter after a 23-yard run into Dallas territory gave him his grand total of 167 on the day. (Eric Hartline-Imagn Images) Now the question is: Will the Eagles, who clinched their playoff berth already, allow Barkley to go after Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record (2,105) against his former New York Giants in Week 18? It’s quite normal for teams to rest their starters, but there’s all-time history on the line for Barkley and that decision by head coach Nick Sirianni will be heavily watched throughout the week. COWBOYS SHUT DOWN STAR CEEDEE LAMB FOR REST OF SEASON DUE TO SHOULDER INJURY Barkley already rushed for 176 yards earlier this season in his highly anticipated return to MetLife Stadium, the place he called home for the past six seasons before joining Philadelphia this offseason. The choice to head south down I-95 has proven to be a smart one for Barkley, who is one of the frontrunners for Offensive Player of the Year given his grand rushing total that could make even more history. Barkley has 13 rushing touchdowns on the year as well as two through the air to go along with his 276 receiving yards on 31 receptions. Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is tackled by Dallas Cowboys linebacker Eric Kendricks during the second quarter at Lincoln Financial Field. (Eric Hartline-Imagn Images) The previous career high for Barkley in rushing yards was 1,312 in 2022, the year he helped lead a team back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 campaign. And he did so behind a sub-par Giants offensive line. But he’s thrived behind this Eagles front all season long, and that was certainly needed with Jalen Hurts out in this game against the Cowboys due to a concussion suffered last week. However, Barkley, for all his efforts on Sunday, didn’t find pay dirt. Instead, DeVonta Smith caught two passing touchdowns – one from starter Kenny Pickett and the other from Tanner McKee, who filled in for Pickett after an injury – and A.J. Brown added one himself. Pickett was also tush-pushed into the end zone in the dominant performance by the Eagles. Flag football scours nation with talent camps to uncover next wave of starsNORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Wenkers Wright ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns and No. 13 Illinois State knocked off North Dakota for the first time, 35-13 in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday. The Redbirds are 9-2 (6-2 Missouri Valley Conference) and are looking to reach the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2019 and sixth time in Brock Spack's 16 seasons as head coach. Illinois State opened the game with some trickery. Eddie Kasper pulled up on a fleaflicker and launched a 30-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Loyd to cap a seven-play, 70-yard opening drive. Simon Romfo tied it on North Dakota's only touchdown of the day, throwing 20 yards to Nate DeMontagnac. Wright scored from the 10 to make it 14-7 after a quarter, and after C.J. Elrichs kicked a 20-yard field goal midway through the second to make it 14-10 at intermission, Wright powered in from the 18 and Mitch Bartol caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Rittenhouse to make it 28-10 after three. Seth Glatz added a 13-yard touchdown run to make it 35-10 before Elrichs added a 37-yard field goal to get the Fighting Hawks on the board to set the final margin. Rittenhouse finished 21 of 33 passing for 187 yards for Illinois State. Loyd caught eight passes for 121 yards. Romfo completed 11 of 26 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown with an interception for North Dakota (5-7, 2-6). Illinois State faced North Dakota for just the fourth time and third time as Missouri Valley Conference opponents. The Redbirds lost the previous three meetings. BOSTON (AP) — Forty years ago, Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie rolled to his right and threw a pass that has become one of college football’s most iconic moments. With Boston College trailing defending champion Miami, Flutie threw the Hail Mary and found receiver Gerard Phalen , who made the grab while falling into the end zone behind a pair of defenders for a game-winning 48-yard TD. Flutie and many of his 1984 teammates were honored on the field during BC’s 41-21 victory over North Carolina before the second quarter on Saturday afternoon, the anniversary of the Eagles’ Miracle in Miami. “There’s no way its been 40 years,” Flutie told The Associated Press on the sideline a few minutes before he walked out with some of his former teammates to be recognized after a video of The Play was shown on the scoreboards. It’s a moment and highlight that’s not only played throughout decades of BC students and fans, but around the college football world. “What is really so humbling is that the kids 40 years later are wearing 22 jerseys, still,” Flutie said of his old number. “That amazes me.” That game was played on national TV the Friday after Thanksgiving. The ironic thing is it was originally scheduled for earlier in the season before CBS paid Rutgers to move its game against Miami, thus setting up the BC-Miami post-holiday matchup. “It shows you how random some things are, that the game was moved,” Flutie said. “The game got moved to the Friday after Thanksgiving, which was the most watched game of the year. We both end up being nationally ranked and up there. All those things lent to how big the game itself was, and made the pass and the catch that much more relevant and remembered because so many people were watching.” There’s a statue of Flutie winding up to make The Pass outside the north gates at Alumni Stadium. Fans and visitors can often be seen taking photos there. “In casual conversation, it comes up every day,” Flutie said, when asked how many times people bring it up. “It brings a smile to my face every time we talk about it.” A week after the game-ending Flutie pass, the Eagles beat Holy Cross and before he flew off to New York to accept the Heisman. They went on to win the 49th Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day. “Forty years seem almost like incomprehensible,” said Phalen, also standing on the sideline a few minutes after the game started. “I always say to Doug: ‘Thank God for social media. It’s kept it alive for us.”’ Earlier this week, current BC coach Bill O’Brien, 55, was asked if he remembered where he was 40 years ago. “We were eating Thanksgiving leftovers in my family room,” he said. “My mom was saying a Rosary in the kitchen because she didn’t like Miami and wanted BC to win. My dad, my brother and I were watching the game. “It was unbelievable,” he said. “Everybody remembers where they were for the Hail Mary, Flutie pass.” Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. OK, McKee actually threw the 20-yard TD to Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J Brown, who — in a momentary lapse of reason — chucked the souvenir football into the Lincoln Financial field stands. Uh-oh. “I felt so bad,” Brown said, “because I threw it so far.” McKee, a sixth-round pick out of Stanford in 2023, is a career third-string QB who had never played a regular-season snap until he was pressed into emergency duty Sunday against Dallas. Jalen Hurts did not start because of a concussion and Kenny Pickett — who ran and threw for a TD in the Eagles' 41-7 win — was knocked of the game with injured ribs. That opened the door for the 24-year-old McKee to play in a game in which the Eagles clinched the NFC East. He did his part — including the 20-yard strike in the third that made it 34-7. The celebration was temporarily muted when he realized his ball — a milestone keepsake for any player — was somewhere in the stands. Little did McKee know the ball was coming back to him. Eagles fans kicked off a bit of a relay with the ball once they realized its significance to McKee. The fan who caught the ball was promised a jersey from Brown. He sent the ball to one fan, who passed it to Eagles security chief “Big” Dom DiSandro to hand to another Eagles employee to Brown and finally to McKee. Souvenir secured. “I appreciate whoever gave the ball back,” McKee said. “(Brown) was like, ‘I’m sorry, bro. I got the ball back.’ So, yeah, it was good. He made a great play, and obviously a great catch.” It was Brown's throw that needed work. Brown stripped off and signed his game jersey and handed it to a fan named Patrick as a thank-you for returning the football — all while fans chanted “E-A-G-L-E-S!” around him. “We've got great fans here,” Brown said. McKee needed more room on the trophy shelf — he threw a second TD pass in the fourth quarter. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL Dan Gelston, The Associated PressTHE rock ’n’ roll reunion we’ve all been waiting for kicks off in July, but the Oasis tour is not the only highlight of the coming year. UTICA — The intriguing exhibition “Modern Women | Modern Vision: Photographs from the Bank of America Collection,” is on view through Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Munson Museum of Art, 310 Genesee St. “Modern Women | Modern Vision” highlights the bank’s renowned collection of more than 80 images created exclusively by women artists spanning much of the last century to the present. The exhibition has been well received by museum visitors, receiving comments including “fabulous collection,” “informative and impactful,” and “left me wanting more!” This exhibition has been loaned through the Bank of America Art in our Communities program. Diverse in style, tone, and subject, these legendary images range from spontaneous to composed as well as monumental to intimate in scale. “Modern Women” reveals the bold and dynamic ways women artists have contributed to the development and evolution of photography in the face of discrimination by critics and consumers alike. “I am delighted the Museum of Art was able to share this meaningful exhibition with our visitors,” said Mary Murray, curator of modern and contemporary art at Munson. “It has been the best balance between familiar — even iconic — images by pioneers of photography and thought-provoking, beautiful work by the generations who followed.” “Art and cultural institutions like Munson play a vital role in fostering connection and creativity in Central New York,” said Michael Brunner, president of the Bank of America Central New York. “We look forward to continuing to partner with local museums and cultural institutions as we create new experiences and share important works of art through the Art in Our Communities program.” Female photographers have played a vital role in framing the modern experience through the lens of the camera. They have embraced the art form from its introduction in 1839 through the technological developments of the early 1900s and have used their perspective to produce extraordinary views of the world around them. Women have negotiated waves of social, political, and economic change, increasingly leveraging the camera as a means of creativity, financial independence, and personal freedom. “In this exhibition, there are portraits of people from all walks of life that enable us to see and understand humanity,” Murray said. “Landscapes are framed to underscore our footprint on the earth. Several artists have staged images to unveil the creative artifice of the medium and to reveal how biases are shaped because of photography.” Disrupting the longstanding constraints placed on women’s social behavior and gender roles, early trailblazers helped establish photography as a vital form of creative expression. They also laid the groundwork and served as role models for subsequent generations of artists. The exhibition unfolds through a closer look at six themes within the collection: Modernist Innovators; Documentary Photography and the New Deal; The Photo League; Modern Masters; Exploring the Environment; and The Global Contemporary Lens. Familiar works by Margaret Bourke-White, Imogen Cunningham, Cindy Sherman, and Carrie Mae Weems, as well as iconic portraits by Dorothea Lange and Diane Arbus; street photography by Ruth Orkin and Helen Levitt; and edgy appropriation photo-collages by Barbara Kruger combine to tell a dynamic story of the 20th century in a display rich in history, beauty, poignancy, and power.Flag football scours nation with talent camps to uncover next wave of stars

Dean Phillips, the Democratic representative from Minnesota who bucked his party to become the only elected official to challenge Joe Biden for the Democratic primary earlier this year, has said he is "saddened" by the accuracy of his prediction at the time that the outgoing president could not win re-election. "If what I feel now is vindication, it's awfully unsatisfying," Phillips told Politico, adding: "The fact was, he was not in a position to win. The fact was his approval numbers were historically low. The fact was his physical decline was real." Phillips, who is now retiring from Congress, told the outlet: "The only vindication I cared about was my own, and I'm saddened that I'm vindicated. I would have much rather traded that vindication for success, and that's why I'm so utterly disappointed in many of my colleagues and our party."
