They’re prescribed an alternate to the toxic drug supply they would otherwise access on the streets. Those clients pick up that prescription every day. Courtice estimates diversion from his centre’s program has happened about a dozen times in the last few years. He says the increase in diversion coincides with other prescribers coming onstream in 2023. “The large increase that police are seeing in diversion, the timing is about when we had the increase in the number of prescribers in our community that were providing Safer Supply. Our program, we have a long history and experience of providing, preventing diversion. So, it’s rare in our program, and we take it seriously,” said Courtice. Federal funding for London’s SOS program comes to an end at the end of March. Courtice says it means six staff dedicated to providing wraparound supports for high-risk addicts will be reassigned. HUNTSVILLE — While the season ended sooner than the Hornets hoped, Huntsville’s 5-2 district record was rewarded among the coaches in District 8-5A, DII. The Hornets landed three superlative honors, 15 first-team honors, seven second-team members and one honorable mention. Huntsville had 21 members on the all-academic team too. Senior Braylon Phelps was tabbed as the District 8-5A, DII Special Teams MVP as he returned kicks and punts for Huntsville. Freshman Zay Adolphe was tabbed the district’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year after making plays with his legs and arm. Junior Sam Cleveland was voted the District 8-5A Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Those three members were also elected to the district’s first team. The Hornets hung their hat on the defense, which was noted in district play. The Hornets had Trae’Shawn Brown, Savion Conteh, Jerious Singletary, Brian Parker Jr., Tr’e Williams, Isaiah Lewis, Tyler Smith, Zack Moss, Shiloh Jones, Mu’Koryc Norman, Kenneth Scott III and Brent Carroll. Brown was a premier running back for the Hornets and was a focal point for the Huntsville run game. Brown gained 714 yards in district and scored eight times. Conteh stepped up as the Hornet’s WR1 this year. Conteh hauled in 16 catches for 339 yards and six touchdowns. Singletary was listed as a tight end and made his presence known there. He became known as a blocking tight end to open up the Hornets’ run game. Parker Jr. and Williams made their presence felt protecting both quarterbacks and getting the run game going. In district, the Hornets had 1,827 rushing yards. The Hornet defense proved to be one of the best in the district and it was rewarded. Huntsville claimed both first-team spots for the defensive tackle position. Lewis and Smith rotated for each other. Moss added his name to the first team with a tremendous year as a defensive end to cap off his final year at Huntsville. In the middle of the field, Huntsville’s second level was a key part in keeping opponents out of the end zone. Jones, Norman and Cleveland kept teams in check and kept quarterbacks honest while the run games never exploded. To cap off the first team, both corners for the Hornets were elected to the first team. Scott III and Carroll each came through late in games to keep the Hornets up. Scott III sealed the Hornets’ fate with an interception against Nederland that led to the Hornets’ playoff push. The second team was made up of quarterback Austin Taylor, wide receiver Jabari Washington, center Laslalio Moreno, offensive tackle Caleb Williams, defensive tackle Jaden Bradford, defensive end Fred Oladele and punter Caleb Culak. Eli Cruz was an honorable mention for the Hornets as a guard. The Hornets had Conteh, Phelps, Brown, Jones, Taylor, Claudio Alvarenga, Josh Stanley, Washington, Xavier Scott, Destin Zapoli, Cooper Hooks, Seth Johnson, Kaleb Merchant, Parker Jr, Moreno, Matthew Theisen, Jackson Slater, Moss, Culak, Oladele and Norman earn academic all-district efforts. Huntsville’s season ended in the area round of the Class 5A playoffs with a loss to South Oak Cliff. The Golden Bears are eyeing another shot at a state championship after knocking off Port Neches-Groves in the Region final.
