EXPOSED By Consumer Reports Reviewed How to Build an App: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners How to Explore the Best Chevrolet Cars for Families in 2024 CommentsThe behind-the-scenes machinery of modern Hollywood burst into the open over the weekend as actor Blake Lively filed a legal complaint accusing her “It Ends With Us” director and co-star Justin Baldoni of harassment and creating a hostile on-set working environment. Also included in the complaint are allegations that Baldoni hired crisis PR operatives to wage a sophisticated online smear campaign against Lively as the movie was being released last summer . As detailed in exhibits accompanying the legal filing , crisis management expert Melissa Nathan responded to a request from Baldoni by saying, “You know we can bury anyone.” An adaptation of the popular novel by Colleen Hoover, the romantic drama “It Ends With Us,” details an abusive relationship. Released by Sony Pictures, the film has grossed more than $350 million worldwide. Below is a primer on the key figures involved in the scandal. Blake Lively Lively had her first breakout role in 2005’s “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” and its 2008 sequel. She reached a new level of stardom thanks to her leading role in the hit television series “Gossip Girl,” running from 2007 to 2012. Since then she has appeared in films such as “The Age of Adeline,” “The Shallows” and “A Simple Favor.” In 2012, Lively married actor and producer Ryan Reynolds, which has increased her visibility and fame, as has her close friendship with superstar musician Taylor Swift. Lively made a cameo appearance in Reynolds’ 2024 hit “Deadpool & Wolverine” and said in an interview that her husband had rewritten a scene in “It Ends With Us.” Lively has more than 45 million followers on Instagram. In a statement, Lively said of the complaint, “I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted.” Justin Baldoni Baldoni is an actor, director and producer who first gained broader attention by appearing on the CW series “Jane the Virgin” from 2014 to 2019. He previously directed the 2019 romantic drama “Five Feet Apart” and the 2020 biographical drama “Clouds.” Baldoni married actress Emily Foxler in 2013. He is also the co-host of the podcast “Man Enough,” described as exploring “what it means to be a man today and how rigid gender roles have affected all people.” Baldoni has nearly 4 million followers on Instagram. Among the allegations against Baldoni are comments about Lively’s weight, including reaching out to her personal trainer, as well as physical touching and sexual remarks without consent. Lively requested that no more “sex scenes, oral sex or on camera climaxing” be added outside of what was already in the script. In the filming of a scene in which her character gives birth, Lively alleges that she was pressured into being mostly nude from the chest down and that many non-essential crew members were on set as she was left exposed in a vulnerable position. Additionally, Baldoni cast a personal friend to play the OB-GYN in the scene, which Lively described as “invasive and humiliating.” In a statement, Bryan Freedman, an attorney who represents Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios and its representatives, called Lively’s allegations “another desperate attempt to ‘fix’ her negative reputation which was garnered from her own remarks and actions during the campaign for the film. ... These claims are completely false, outrageous and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt and rehash a narrative in the media.” Of the alleged smear campaign Freedman added, “What is pointedly missing from the cherry-picked correspondence is the evidence that there were no proactive measures taken with media or otherwise; just internal scenario planning and private correspondence to strategize which is standard operating procedure with public relations professionals.” On Saturday, after the allegations were made public, Baldoni was dropped by talent agency WME, which also represents Lively. Wayfarer Studios After his five-year stint on “Jane the Virgin,” Baldoni launched his own production company in 2019. He has cited his Baha’i faith as one of the inspirations behind launching the company, whose stated mission is to “champion inspirational stories that act as true agents of social change.” Its first project, Baldoni’s directorial debut “Five Feet Apart,” a romantic drama about two cystic fibrosis patients, was released that year. It was his work on the film that Baldoni said convinced Colleen Hoover, author of “It Ends With Us,” to grant his company the rights to her book. Wayfarer is also behind Baldoni’s weekly podcast, “Man Enough,” which aims to explore gender roles and avoid “polarizing and demonizing men and masculinity.” The studio also produced “Will & Harper,” the Netflix documentary about Will Ferrell’s road trip with his transgender best friend Harper Steele, which recently made the shortlist for a potential Academy Award nomination . Jamey Heath Heath, who is named as one of the defendants in Lively’s legal complaint, is Baldoni’s close friend and colleague. In addition to serving as the chief executive officer of Wayfarer Studios and as producer on “It Ends With Us,” he is a co-host of the “Man Enough” podcast. Like Baldoni, the father of four is also a member of the Baha’i faith. According to Lively’s complaint, on Jan. 4, 2024, Heath was part of a small meeting of “It Ends With Us” collaborators where Lively alleged that the producer and Baldoni had engaged in “inappropriate conduct” on set. Lively claimed that Heath pressured her to “simulate full nudity” in a birth scene and showed her a video of his wife in labor “fully nude ... with her legs spread apart.” When Lively expressed alarm, she said, Heath replied that his wife “isn’t weird about this stuff.” Heath insisted on taking a meeting with Lively while she was “topless and having body makeup removed,” according to the legal document. Though he agreed to keep his back turned to her, she said, he instead stared directly at her. Steve Sarowitz Sarowitz, the billionaire co-chairman of Wayfarer Studios, is one of the primary financiers of Baldoni’s production company, investing at least $125 million in the venture. He amassed his fortune after taking his payroll firm, Paylocity, public in 2014; he is now worth a reported $2.7 billion. Sarowitz is also a member of the Baha’i community. Lively’s complaint alleges that at the New York premiere of “It Ends With Us” in August, Sarowitz said he was “prepared to spend $100 million to ruin the lives of Ms. Lively and her family.” Further, the document says, Sarowitz “flew in for one of his few set visits” on the day that Lively was filming the birth scene where she only had a “small piece of fabric covering her genitalia.” Jennifer Abel Abel, founder and CEO of RWA Communications, is the publicist for Baldoni and Wayfarer. In July, she founded her own public relations company after serving as a partner at the communications firm Jonesworks. Her client roster is relatively small; Baldoni and actor Jameela Jamil are the most well known names she represents. Lively’s legal complaint includes dozens of private text messages and emails between Abel, Baldoni and other communications experts that the actor claims show intent to destroy her reputation. According to those messages, Baldoni first expressed concern to Abel in May that Lively’s on-set allegations could go public. That was when Baldoni noticed that Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, had blocked him on social media, the complaint says. “HE BLOCKED YOU?! Is he a 12 year old girl?!” Abel texted Baldoni, per the document. “We can put the plan down on paper ... to make sure we have all of the documentation needed of what happened on set, who witnessed what and who would be our Allies to go on background if needed to shut down her claims.” By then, the complaint alleges that Abel was already in touch with a crisis communications expert, Melissa Nathan, relaying that Baldoni “wants to feel like [Lively] can be buried.” Melissa Nathan Nathan, co-owner and CEO of the Agency Group, was officially brought in by Abel in July to work for Baldoni, according to Lively’s complaint. The document says Nathan quoted the actor a fee of up to $175,000 for three to four months of her work. The Agency Group then created a “scenario planning” document for Wayfarer to be implemented if Lively were to make her “grievances” public. According to this document, which was cited in Lively’s complaint , one idea was to float the narrative that Lively involved Reynolds in the filmmaking to “create an ilmalance [sic] of power between her” and Baldoni. The PR firm also suggested reminding reporters that Lively has a “less than favorable reputation in the industry” and has “issues” working with Leighton Meester, Anna Kendrick and Ben Affleck. A month before starting her work with Wayfarer, Nathan in June announced the launch of her own public relations firm after departing Hiltzik Strategies, the crisis PR firm where she was executive vice president. Nathan’s new company is partially owned by Ithaca Media Ventures, according to corporate registration records filed in California. Ithaca is owned by HYBE America, whose CEO is entrepreneur and former talent manager Scooter Braun. HYBE America is one of the Agency Group’s clients, along with Johnny Depp, Logan Paul and Drake. Jed Wallace According to Lively’s complaint, Wallace is a public relations contractor from Austin, Texas, whom the Agency Group hired to “seed and influence” negative social media discussion about the actor. In an Aug. 9 text message referenced in the complaint, Nathan relays to Abel that Wallace said “we are crushing it on Reddit.” A day later, the alleged messages show, Abel compliments Wallace “and his team’s efforts to shift the narrative” about Baldoni. Scooter Braun Braun, the former manager of Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, now runs the U.S. arm of the South Korean entertainment company HYBE. HYBE America is a co-founder of Nathan’s company, the Agency Group, and one of its clients. Braun has also been engaged in a years-long public dispute with Swift, who is one of Lively’s best friends. The battle between the singer and the executive began in 2019, when Braun acquired the record label Big Machine, which held the rights to the master recordings for Swift’s music from her 2006 self-titled debut to 2017’s “Reputation.” Swift responded by launching the “Taylor’s Version” series of rerecordings and rereleases of those albums. In Lively’s complaint, Nathan sends a June text message telling the Wayfarer team that she is aware the actor “does have some of the TS fanbase so we will be taking it extremely seriously.” Later, in the Agency Group’s “scenario planning” document, the company says its team could explore “planting stories about the weaponization of feminism and how people in BL’s circle like Taylor Swift, have been accused of utilizing these tactics to ‘bully’ into getting what they want.” Times staff writer Matt Hamilton contributed to this report.Major banks support financing for Robbiki Leather City factoriesTrump's TikTok love raises stakes in battle over app's fatefortune ox demo slot

Supreme Court seems likely to uphold Tennessee's ban on medical treatments for transgender minors WASHINGTON (AP) — Hearing a high-profile culture-war clash, the Supreme Court on Wednesday seemed likely to uphold Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. The justices’ decision, not expected for several months, could affect similar laws enacted by another 25 states and a range of other efforts to regulate the lives of transgender people, including which sports competitions they can join and which bathrooms they can use. The case is being weighed by a conservative-dominated court after a presidential election in which Donald Trump and his allies promised to roll back protections for transgender people. The Biden administration’s top Supreme Court lawyer warned a decision favorable to Tennessee also could be used to justify nationwide restrictions on transgender healthcare for minors. South Korean President Yoon's martial law declaration raises questions over his political future SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — President Yoon Suk Yeol’s stunning martial law declaration lasted just hours, but experts say it raised serious questions about his ability to govern for the remaining 2 1/2 years of his term. The opposition-controlled parliament overturned the edict, and his rivals on Wednesday took steps to impeach him. Yoon's move baffled many experts. One analyst called his action “political suicide.” Yoon’s political fate may depend on whether a large number of people in coming days take to the streets to push for his ouster. Yoon hasn't commented on the impeachment bid. But the political instability he unleashed could make it more difficult for his government to nurse a decaying economy. Harris found success with women who have cats, but Trump got the dog owner vote: AP VoteCast WASHINGTON (AP) — The lead-up to the 2024 election was all about cat owners. That's according to AP VoteCast, a survey of more than 120,000 voters. Dog owners were much more likely to support Trump over Kamala Harris. Cat owners were evenly split between the two candidates. Harris did end up decisively winning support from women who own a cat but no dog. Past comments by Trump's running mate, JD Vance, about “childless cat ladies” briefly became a campaign issue. The move could usher in an end to a protracted political crisis in the European Union country following the annulment of a presidential election by a top court. Parliament approved the new administration in a 240-143 vote in Romania’s 466-seat legislature. The new coalition is made up of the leftist Social Democratic Party (PSD) the centre-right National Liberal Party (PNL), the small ethnic Hungarian UDMR party and national minorities. It caps a month-long period of turmoil in which far-right nationalists made significant gains in a parliamentary election on December 1 a week after a first-round presidential race saw the far-right outsider Calin Georgescu emerge as the front-runner. “It will not be an easy mandate for the future government,” Mr Ciolacu, whose PSD party topped the polls in the parliamentary election, said in a statement. “We are aware that we are in the midst of a deep political crisis,” he said. “It is also a crisis of trust, and this coalition aims to regain the trust of citizens, the trust of the people.” Romania’s 16 ministerial positions will be shared among the parties, which will hold a slim majority in the legislature. It is widely seen as a tactical partnership to shut out far-right nationalists whose voices found fertile ground amid high living costs and a sluggish economy. Mr Ciolacu, who came third in the first-round presidential ballot despite polls indicating he would win the most votes, has served as prime minister since June 2023. After parliament’s approval, President Klaus Iohannis swore in the new government and warned the new Cabinet that it is entering a “difficult new period” in which “for many Romanians, there are major concerns”. Romania was plunged into turmoil after Mr Georgescu’s surprise success in the presidential race, after allegations of electoral violations and Russian interference emerged. Days before the December 8 run-off, the Constitutional Court made the unprecedented move to annul the presidential race. “We go through complicated times, but I think we all learned from mistakes of the past,” Mr Ciolacu said. “I hope that together with my colleagues in the coalition, we’ll find the best solutions to get past the challenges we have in front of us.” Mr Ciolacu said that the new government would aim to quickly organise the rerun of the presidential election in which the new coalition has agreed to put forward an agreed common pro-European candidate. Cristian Andrei, a political consultant based in Bucharest, said that the new government made up of the same political parties will likely embrace “soft populist” rhetoric such as economic patriotism, anti-austerity, and a peace solution in neighbouring Ukraine to counter the rise of far-right populism. “This will be a way to answer the concerns of many Romanians who voted for populists... but will not solve the fundamental problem of trust,” he said. “The only decisive factor now will be who and how convincing the pro-European candidates will be against this popular revolt.” George Simion, the leader of the far-right Alliance for the Unity of Romanians, which came second in the parliamentary election, said that all politicians from his party on Monday would vote against the Ciolacu government. In 2021, the PSD and the PNL also formed an unlikely but increasingly strained coalition together with UDMR, which exited the Cabinet last year after a power-sharing dispute.Liverpool: Arne Slot offers latest Mohamed Salah update after fresh contract reports

By CHRIS MEGERIAN and COLLEEN LONG WASHINGTON (AP) — In the two weeks since Donald Trump won the presidency, he’s tried to demonstrate his dominance by naming loyalists for top administration positions, even though many lack expertise and some face sexual misconduct accusations. It often seems like he’s daring Congress to oppose his decisions. But on Thursday, Trump’s attempt to act with impunity showed a crack as Matt Gaetz , his choice for attorney general, withdrew from consideration. Trump had named Gaetz, a Florida congressman, to be the country’s top law enforcement official even though he was widely disliked by his colleagues, has little legal experience and was accused of having sex with an underage girl, an allegation he denied. After being plagued by investigations during his first presidency, Trump wanted a devoted ally in charge of the Justice Department during his second. However, it was never obvious that Gaetz could win enough support from lawmakers to get confirmed as attorney general. Trump chose for a replacement Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general who defended him during his first impeachment trial and supported his false claims of voter fraud. Now the question is whether Gaetz was uniquely unpalatable, or if Trump’s other picks might exceed his party’s willingness to overlook concerns that would have sunk nominees in a prior political era. The next test will likely be Pete Hegseth, who Trump wants to lead the Pentagon despite an allegation of sexual assault that he’s denied. So far, Republicans are rallying around Hegseth , an Army veteran and former Fox News host. Sen. Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the controversy over Gaetz would have little bearing on Trump’s other choices. He said they would be considered “one at a time.” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, suggested otherwise, claiming “the dominoes are falling.” “The drip drip of evidence and truth is going to eventually doom some others,” he said. He was also criminally convicted of falsifying business records to pay hush money, and he was found liable for sexual abuse in a civil case. Empowered by voters who looked past his misconduct and saw him as a powerful agent of change, Trump has shown no deference to Washington norms while working to fill his second administration . The transition team hasn’t pursued federal background checks for Trump’s personnel choices. Once Trump announced Hegseth as his nominee for Pentagon chief, allegations emerged that he sexually assaulted a woman in California in 2017. The woman said he took her phone, blocked the door to the hotel room and refused to let her leave, according to a police report made public this week. Hegseth told police at the time that the encounter had been consensual and denied any wrongdoing, the report said. However, he paid the woman a confidential settlement in 2023. Hegseth’s lawyer said the payment was made to head off the threat of a baseless lawsuit. Trump’s choice for secretary of health and human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has faced allegations of misconduct too. A woman who babysat for him and his second wife told Vanity Fair magazine that Kennedy groped her in the late 1990s, when she was 23. Kennedy did not deny the allegation and texted an apology to the woman after the article was published. That isn’t the only hurdle for Kennedy; he’s spent years spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories about vaccines, raising fears about making him a top health official in the new administration. Linda McMahon, chosen by Trump to be education secretary, is fighting a lawsuit connected to her former company, World Wrestling Entertainment. She’s accused of knowingly enabling sexual exploitation of children by an employee as early as the 1980s, and she denies the allegations. Tulsi Gabbard is another person who could face a difficult confirmation battle, but for very different reasons. The former Democratic representative from Hawaii has been a vocal Trump ally, and he chose her to be national intelligence director. But there’s grave concern by lawmakers and national security officials over Gabbard’s history of echoing Russian propaganda. Critics said she would endanger relationships with U.S. allies. Gaetz was investigated by federal law enforcement for sex trafficking, but the case was closed without charges and Republicans have blocked the release of a related report from the House Ethics Committee. However, some allegations leaked out, including that Gaetz paid women for sex. One of the women testified to the committee that she saw Gaetz having sex with a 17-year-old girl, according to a lawyer for the woman. As Gaetz met with senators this week, it became clear that he would face stubborn resistance from lawmakers who were concerned about his behavior and believed he was unqualified to run the Justice Department. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction,” Gaetz wrote on social media when announcing his withdrawal. Sen. Mike Braun, an Indiana Republican, said he believed there were four to six members of the caucus who would have voted against Gaetz, likely dooming his nomination, and “the math got too hard.” He said some of the issues and allegations around Gaetz were “maybe beyond the pale.” “I think there were just too many things, it was like a leaky dike, and you know, it broke,” Braun said. Trump thanked Gaetz in a post on Truth Social, his social media website, without addressing the substance of the allegations against him. “He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect,” Trump wrote. AP Business SummaryBrief at 3:44 p.m. ESTAt seminars and forums, one of the most frequent questions I encounter is: What traits set business leaders like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Jack Welch, Ratan Tata, and Richard Branson apart from the rest? While I haven’t had the privilege of working directly with these global icons, I’ve engaged with several global gurus who have collaborated with these entrepreneurs. Their valuable insights have provided clarity into this question. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to closely associate with some of Sri Lanka’s most successful entrepreneurs, including working with them at the board level. Through these experiences, I’ve observed shared traits among Sri Lanka’s top business leaders—visionaries such as Harry Jayawardena, Aban Pestonjee, Sumal Perera, the late Merril J. Fernando, Sohil Captain and Chandra Schaffter. A few of these legends candidly shared their experiences during the famous FT-ICCSL-CIMA Fireside Chat in 2018, offering profound lessons on business leadership and perseverance. These leaders exhibit qualities that not only set them apart from regular entrepreneurs but also empower them to leave a lasting legacy—transforming their enterprises while positively impacting the communities they serve. Just as political leaders rise and fall in Sri Lanka, businesses and their founders face similar challenges. The companies that endure owe their longevity to strong, visionary leadership. These business leaders combine foresight, motivation, and key abilities to achieve results. They not only secure their companies’ success but also reshape industries, set benchmarks, and make a meaningful societal impact. Here are my five key traits that I believe are common to Sri Lanka’s most successful entrepreneurs: Strong entrepreneurs possess the ability to foresee opportunities and craft a compelling vision. Many of them have transformed their enterprises into global brands/businesses by focusing on sustainable, long-term growth rather than short-term gains. Business leaders like Mrs. Aban Pestonjee and Merril J. Fernando have built their brands around the unwavering values they believed in, which they’ve seamlessly integrated into their business models. Their success demonstrates how a clear vision, aligned with strong principles, can redefine industries and set new standards. Resilience in the face of challenges is a defining trait of exceptional entrepreneurs. They adapt, pivot, and persevere through setbacks, turning obstacles into opportunities. For instance, Access Engineering, led by Sumal Perera, has repeatedly navigated significant hurdles in the construction and property sectors through innovative strategies and unyielding determination. Harry Jayawardena, known for his pragmatic outlook, often reminded me of the importance of action over complaint, famously saying, “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness, so get on with it.” This mindset exemplifies the resilience and proactive approach that characterise successful leadership, inspiring teams to forge ahead regardless of adversity. Remaining relevant requires continuous evolution. Sri Lankan entrepreneurs like Mrs. Aban Pestonjee have embraced change, adopted new technologies, and introduced locally manufactured products tailored to the specific needs of local consumers. This adaptability has been instrumental in transforming industries such as retail, setting benchmarks for others to follow. Similarly, bold risk-taking is another defining characteristic of successful leaders. Visionaries like Harry Jayawardena have taken calculated risks, blending courage with informed decision-making to drive their ventures forward. Additionally, Chandra Schaffter played a pioneering role in establishing Janashakthi Insurance, Sri Lanka’s first major life insurance company. His efforts ensured not only the company’s survival through challenging times but also its enduring presence within his family’s stewardship, cementing a legacy in Sri Lanka’s insurance sector. Consistently delivering quality builds trust and fosters long-term brand loyalty. Merril J. Fernando transformed the global tea industry with his commitment to single-origin, high-quality tea and ethical sourcing practices, setting new benchmarks for authenticity and sustainability. Similarly, entrepreneurs like Sumal Perera have focused on customer-centric strategies, customising their offerings to address real market needs while fostering innovation. Beyond profitability, these leaders emphasise creating positive social impact. Initiatives like the MJF Foundation showcase a deep commitment to community development, while the socially responsible practices of MAS Holdings and Brandix highlight the role of sustainable and responsible business operations. Sohli Captain, in particular, embodied this spirit through his visionary leadership and dedication to philanthropy. His countless acts of service reflect an unwavering commitment to uplifting communities, contributing to national progress, and leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and generosity. Progressive entrepreneurs recognise the immense value of empowering and nurturing their teams. They create environments where talent is encouraged to thrive, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and tangible results; organisations like MAS and Brandix exemplify this approach. They have built enterprises that not only excel in cultivating strong talent pools but also actively uplift the lives of their employees and the communities they serve. The defining feature of these individuals isn’t just financial success—it’s their ability to inspire, change, innovate, and create lasting value. Their journeys are a testament to the fact that entrepreneurship is about more than building businesses; it’s about shaping a better future for their enterprises, for their employees, communities, and society as a whole. In a country where mediocrity often seems like the safest choice, the key to standing out lies in taking the road less travelled. By venturing into uncharted territories, these entrepreneurs saw what others haven’t and achieved what others cannot. This is the defining difference between an average businessman and a visionary entrepreneur who has built globally recognised brands and transformed their industries. Northern Oil and Gas took the unusual step of denying rumors that it is in discussions to acquire Granite Ridge Resources, another non-operating energy investment company. Unnamed sources told Reuters that Eden Prairie-based Northern Oil and Gas had made offers to acquire Dallas-based Granite Ridge. However, Northern Oil and Gas issued a press release late Friday saying, “The company is not currently engaged in formal negotiations to acquire Granite Ridge.” Under Chief Executive Nick O’Grady and board Chair Bahram Akradi, Northern Oil has grown tremendously in the last several years by making strategic acquisitions of non-operating interests in oil and gas properties and is the largest publicly traded non-operator. Once primarily operating in the Williston and Bakken areas of North Dakota and Montana, recent acquisitions have diversified the company’s geographic holdings in the most prominent oil and gas production regions in the continental United States including the Uinta, Permian and Appalachian basins. The company said it maintains an active book of prospects that it is examing at any given time. “The company frequently sends expressions of interest to acquire assets or businesses in order to evaluate and conduct due diligence on potential opportunities.” the company said. “Many of these requests to conduct diligence are rejected.” In 2020, Northern Oil’s revenue was $324 million, and analysts project revenue for 2024 will be $2.25 billion, making the company one of the fastest growing Minnesota-based public firms over those years. Earlier this year, Northern Oil entered two joint ventures, giving the company about 20% interest in deals with Point Partners for Vital Energy and XCL for SM Energy. Those deals expanded the company’s interests in the Permian and Unita basins. On two of the more expensive deals, Northern Oil spent a combined $730 million. The deals increased overall debt, but according to company officials, the company still has about $1 billion on a revolving line of credit and its preferred liquidity ratio is slightly higher than they like. Officials have said they believe Northern Oil has the capacity to make more deals, while still paring down debt. Company officials said Monday they did not have additional comments on the Granite Ridge rumors. The Reuters story claimed that Northern Oil had made two offers for Granite Ridge, at a 20% premium to its share price. Granite Ridge’s current market cap is about $810 million. Granite Ridge owns wells and locations in the Permian, Bakken, and Denver-Julesburg oil and gas production regions, among others. Northern Oil trades on Nasdaq, but more than 40% of its shares are controlled by Grey Rock Investment Partners. Granite Ridge was formed and went public in May 2022 when Grey Rock merged with a special purpose acquisition company. At that time, shares were trading just under $10 a share. Prior to the Reuter’s story, Granite Ridge’s stock was trading around $5.62 a share, but the rumors sent its shares up 10% on Friday. After the Northern Oil issued its denial, Granite Ridge shares traded down on Monday, closing at $5.90 a share, 5% less than the close on Friday. Northern Oil shares on Monday closed at $35.63, up less than 1%.
