Chu Expands on Why Movie Isn’t Happening Soon By Director Jon M. Chu has given another , revealing why he thinks the film isn’t going to happen anytime soon. What is the latest Crazy Rich Asians 2 update? Speaking to Deadline as part of their Crew Call podcast, Chu was asked about the status of a potential sequel to Crazy Rich Asians. The director noted that as of now, he wouldn’t ask anyone from the first film’s all-star cast to return unless things are worth it. “I won’t bring everyone back unless it’s worth it. There’s too much on the line for everybody,” said Chu, before noting that they’ve been trying, but haven’t landed on something just yet. “I want the best thing. I want it to be worthy of what Crazy Rich Asians 1 was. We’ve tried all different versions. It’s hard because people think the first movie is like the book, but it actually is not. It’s the right spirit, but the plotting is very different. And so, you can’t just go and translate. And we’ve tried versions and the fact is, is that we just haven’t gotten there.” As of now, Chu says he hard at work on the Broadway adaptation of the movie and novel; he considers this to be the sequel as of now. “To me, that sequel right now is that the Broadway musical that we’re working on. That’s very exciting and very fun.” The first Crazy Rich Asians released in 2018, and was based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan. The film featured an absolute all-star cast, including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, and Michelle Yeoh. In films & other artforms, avant garde influences commercial creative outputs, makes them better Those who routinely, mournfully ask where the new Satyajit Ray is, or Bimal Roy or Kumar Shahani or Mrinal Sen, will now also ask where the new Shyam Benegal is. IPTA and eighties parallel cinema are two influences particularly storied among Indian film aficionados. It may also be true that, for example, Do Bigha Zameen , Bhuvan Shome , Manthan and Khayal Gatha , are unfamiliar to a majority of audiences today. Even in their own times, many of these texts may have lived as ‘high art’, which the masses stayed away from. But judging their value by the box office alone is a fool’s game. Creativity isn’t mathematical. Sensitivity to the human condition is a complex civilisational inheritance. Think about a selfie and van Gogh’s self-portraits. To ask which is better is no crime. But what’s really interesting about the comparison is stopping to think about how the two work, to debate their form and meanings. It is contemplation and conversation that carry culture forward. Payal Kapadia, whose All We Imagine as Light is a Cannes Grand Prix winner, has spoken about how Ritwik Ghatak’s Subarnarekha shook her up, its editing, its script, its scene constructions. This is how influence jumps across time. Neither is the diversity that has come to define OTT content unconnected from the storytelling that was once bracketed as art cinema. Actually, this is true across the arts. Those who aren’t exactly attempting the Great Indian Novel still benefit from those who have. There are directors who persuaded Birju Maharaj to choreograph for their movies, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kamal Haasan. But the influence of kathak on the picturisation of song and dance in Indian cinema is vastly greater. It’s the same with classical music. Its pop impact is immeasurable. It’s impossible to think of a desi song cabinet that owes nothing to Hindustani or Carnatic or Qawwali styles. Of course, none of this stops at national borders. We are hearing Beethoven’s Für Elise all the time, even if we don’t know we are hearing it. One thing is that the greats may not be well judged in their own times. Take Keats – ironically of the “ A thing of beauty is a joy forever: its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness” fame. It’s said very bad reviews hastened him to an early death. How tastes evolve is impossible to predict. But that the good lifts up the average is certain.
Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi from Sivasagar took a veiled jab at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also serves as the BJP's in-charge for Jharkhand, shortly after the state's election results were declared. In a social media post, Gogoi stated - "Is he invincible? No... What is clear from the Jharkhand election is that he does not carry a magic wand to win elections," Gogoi stated. He lauded Jharkhand’s example, where regional forces led the charge against the BJP, supported by a cooperative Congress. Gogoi pointed out that the Congress played a secondary role in Jharkhand's alliance, demonstrating humility and unity, which led to the opposition’s success. He contrasted this with Maharashtra, where the Congress’ alleged arrogance in alliance dynamics led to defeat. Also Read: “The Jharkhand election was led by its regional forces, supported and cooperated by the Congress. In Jharkhand, the Congress did not show arrogance. It fought together,” he said. Gogoi stressed the need for Assam's regional forces to unite and take a similar approach ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. “The Assam by-elections showed that only with combined opposition forces can we defeat the BJP’s money and muscle power, misuse of government machinery, and organizational strength. The regional forces of Assam must start working from today onwards.” Calling for introspection within the Congress, Gogoi argued that arrogance or disunity among opposition parties plays directly into the BJP’s hands. “Assam can follow the example of Jharkhand to protect its regional economic, environmental, social, and political interests and promote progressive democratic politics,” he asserted. With just a year left before the next major political battle, Gogoi urged all democratic forces and well-wishers to join hands to form a united front. “This is the call of time,” he concluded, reiterating the importance of collective action to counter the BJP's dominance.

The Raiders (3-12) have now plummeted out of the top five thanks to their 19-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Raiders coach Antonio Pierce didn't want hear about it when addressing reporters Monday, one day after fans on social media trashed the organization for winning a so-called meaningless game that hurt their draft position. He said fans more concerned with the team's 2025 draft picks should "Talk to Tom Telesco" -- Las Vegas' general manager -- before going deeper. "We don't do this to lose," Pierce said. "We don't do this for anybody's fantasy football team. We don't do this for anybody's draft projections. None of that (expletive) matters to us. The only thing that matters is winning, and that's all we want to do." The Raiders' win was their first since Sept. 29, ending a 10-game losing streak. The Giants lost their 10th straight game to be the NFL's only 2-13 team. Las Vegas is not only tied with four other teams at 3-12, but it currently sits in the No. 6 overall spot because it loses the strength of schedule tiebreaker to the New England Patriots, Jaguars, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. It's felt acutely by Raiders fans because the franchise has run into a black hole at quarterback. Las Vegas has used Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder at the position, with none making a case to be the starter in 2025 and beyond. Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward are the only two quarterbacks projected to go in the first round by many recent mock drafts. The last time the Raiders got to select No. 1 overall in 2007, they picked QB JaMarcus Russell, widely considered one of the biggest NFL draft busts of all time. The Raiders' two remaining games come Dec. 29 at the New Orleans Saints and in Week 18 at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. --Field Level Media
