(AP) — Michael Gray Jr. had 19 points and Byron Ireland made two free throws with 6 seconds left to rally Nicholls to a 76-75 victory over Louisiana on Saturday night. Gray shot 6 for 11, including 5 for 10 from beyond the arc for the Colonels (4-4). Jamal West added 15 points and nine rebounds. Jaylen Searles hit three 3-pointers and scored 15. Ireland also finished with 15 points. The Ragin' Cajuns (1-7) were led by Kyran Ratliff's 25 points, 13 rebounds and two steals. Mostapha El Moutaouakkil added 19 points and six rebounds. Christian Wright had 12 points. The loss is the sixth in a row for the Ragin' Cajuns. The Associated Press created this story using technology provided by Data Skrive and data from Sportradar .The NSW government has drastically watered down the justification necessary for spending taxpayer dollars as accusations insist a new business case policy allows the premier to make major investment decisions “via media release”. NSW Treasury documents, quietly updated in November, reveal the government has provided a “fast track” pathway for investment decisions, meaning certain projects will not be subject to a business case assessment if they qualify under certain criteria. Under quietly updated reforms of NSW business case guidelines, the threshold for investment now includes a “public commitment” by the premier. Credit: Dominic Lorrimer A business case usually includes an overview of the purpose, benefits and costs of the investment decision, providing government justification for spending taxpayer dollars and cost-benefit analysis providing a metric for whether taxpayers dollars are being spent efficiently. The government has come under fire from the state’s audit office for a “lack of transparency” in financial reporting. An audit released in December found eight of the 15 most significant ongoing investment decisions did not have estimated total costs, while one-third did not have an estimated completion date. Projects which meet the following criteria could be accelerated: those considered a “public commitment” of the premier, where delivery is considered “time critical”, when “options development” is constrained by the investment, and when “bypassing or altering the business case” would “create benefits that outweigh risks”. However, a public commitment could constitute any “public statements approved by the premier”, projects that were considered time-critical when a delivery timeframe had been outlined by government publicly, and projects for which the benefits of bypassing the business case could include saving time and money from not proceeding with it. “Benefits include avoided expenditure on business case development and quicker progress to delivery,” the document said. Daniel Mookhey, NSW treasurer Credit: Fairfax “Business cases and assurance should not be done as a ‘tick the box’ when they won’t add value to resource allocation decisions or project delivery. This policy aims to get committed capital projects to delivery faster while ensuring appropriate analysis, due diligence and risk management takes place.”

The Edo State Government and the immediate past administration are at loggerheads over revelations by former aviation minister, Osita Chidoka regarding the state governorship election on September 21. Chidoka, during a programme on Channels Television on Friday, criticised the conduct of the election, alleging that it was rigged. In response, Governor Monday Okpehbolo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, in a statement released Saturday, said Chidoka’s Athena Centre did not cover substantial parts of the state during the election. He stated further that representatives of the Athena Centre were stationed at the Edo State Government House under the supervision of former Governor Godwin Obaseki to manipulate figures. He said, “On Friday, 29th of November, 2024, Osita Chidoka decided to throw his toys around on behalf of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, as bad losers do. In a well-orchestrated plot hatched by the PDP, in connivance with a serial defector featherweight politician from Anambra State, Osita Chidoka, they tried to bully and blackmail the judiciary into circumventing the will of Edo people. The shameful display, which was unfortunately aired on a once-respected national television, Channels TV, reeled out numbers purchased from ‘Oluwole Market,’ and impetuously concluded that the 21st September governorship election in Edo State was rigged. “Unfortunately, Osita Chidoka’s Athena Centre did not cover the election in substantial parts of the state. They sat in Edo State Government House under the supervision of ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki to concoct and orchestrate figures and numbers to suit their mindset. “First, the factional chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Edo State is blind to the glaring reality that the party was spurned by Edo people in the last governorship election because of their weakness as their own enemies. “Overlooking its messy and divided house, the party is shopping for non-existent evidence to upturn the popular will of the people at the Tribunal. What exactly is the intention or benefit of orchestrating a media trial, as Mr. Chidoka has done? It amounts to deliberate ambush. “Even though the PDP and its hatchet man understand that discussing an issue that is sub-judicial is wrong, they are unremitting in their shambolic plot to supplant facts with concoctions, hoping to arrive at their premeditated end. “This case is already in the tribunal; it should be allowed to run its full course without inhibitions. Thankfully, courts do not pander to concoctions, prevarication, sentiments, red herrings, contradictions, and orchestrations but rely on evidence and facts. “We are hopeful that the judiciary will remain firm in the face of this blackmail, intimidation, and orchestrated media attacks. “The recent attempt by the PDP and their serial defector, Osita Chidoka, to arm-twist logic and employ demagoguery to whip up sentiments amounts to the last cry of a bull as the butcher’s knife serrates its chord; and nothing more. Related News Traffic offenders to do community service in Edo Cheers and jeers: Mixed reactions as Okpebholo begins reforms in Edo Inauguration of Stella Obasanjo Hospital by Obaseki disgraceful - Okpebholo “We are aware that former Governor Godwin Obaseki and some PDP leaders in Edo State, along with their supporters, held a meeting during the week with online merchants and editors of leading newspapers, where it was decided that media trial would be their pattern to discredit the credible Edo election of 21st September. “The truth of the matter is that INEC conducted a very free, fair, and violence-free election acknowledged by domestic observers in their reports. Even the PDP leadership in Edo State, in its review and report, acknowledged that the APC won the election. The latest drama by Osita Chidoka amounts to merely beating about the bush, trying to rake up mud against the election. The PDP should allow the tribunal to do its job in line with established procedures. “We can see that they have recourse to social media, national newspapers, and pliable television stations to push their ugly narratives that Governor Okpehbolo did not win the 21st September governorship election in Edo State. “By this, we make them aware that Governor Monday Okpehbolo is making good progress in office as the duly elected governor with an irrevocable mandate for the next four years.” However, media aide to Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, said the revelation clearly threw the Edo State governor and his allies into a frenzy. He said, “The independent analysis by the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, a non-partisan research institute, of the sham election that installed Monday Okpehbolo as governor of Edo State clearly threw the governor and his godfathers into a frenzy. “Channels TV, in their show, Politics Today, laid bare the mindless and unprecedented transgressions of the Independent National Electoral Commission and their conspirators, the Edo All Progressives Congress. The show must have been a difficult 30 minutes even for the most vile criminal. “Taunted by overwhelming evidence and data exposing the systemic rigging and brazen subversion of the people’s will during the September 21 governorship election, the APC, rather than covering their faces in shame, resorted to a smear campaign, lies, and propaganda to distract from the daylight robbery and undermine the integrity of institutions advocating for the judiciary to right the wrong of the electoral umpire and their conspirators. “The independent analysis broadcast yesterday is the outcome of a forensic examination of data and documents made available to the research institute by the Independent National Electoral Commission. It revealed widespread manipulation and substantial interference in the electoral process by the umpire. But the APC, a party to the robbery, would rather have the findings dismissed, distorted, or buried under a barrage of propaganda and baseless accusations. “Among other things, the centre uncovered shocking discrepancies in the election results, showing that INEC inflated the number of accredited voters by over 100,000 in 798 polling units. They also discovered that polling officers recorded 580,000 accredited voters, yet INEC’s backend mysteriously produced 687,000, further buttressing evidence of deliberate tampering with the election. “There were glaring inconsistencies between INEC’s certified results and the data uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV). Specifically, the forensic analysis revealed that PDP’s results were slashed by 11,665 votes during collation, while 32,284 votes were illegally added to APC’s tally, demonstrating the brazen manipulation and fraud perpetrated against the people of Edo State during the last governorship election. “While we sympathise with the APC over their trauma from the public exposure of their electoral fraud in Edo State by the Athena Centre, we restate our resolve to reclaim the mandate duly given by the good people of Edo State. “We trust in the impartiality of the judiciary and are confident they will rise above the distractions and intimidation tactics of the APC, ensuring justice is served and the will of the people prevails.”Bryson, Phil, Louisville PD and more: Check out our most-watched GOLF videos from 2024

(AP) — Geno Auriemma soaked in the moment. UConn’s Hall of Fame coach now stands alone atop the NCAA basketball wins list. Auriemma broke a tie with former Stanford women’s coach Tara VanDerveer, earning his 1,217th career victory with an 85-41 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday night. “We never sat down and said hey, let’s make a 40-year plan and see if we can make this happen,” Auriemma said. “It’s about coming here every day and trying to be better than we were yesterday.” He has spent four decades building UConn into the standard for women’s college basketball. The school celebrated those 40 years Wednesday night. “I know it means a lot to a lot of people here at UConn that worked really, really hard to make it possible,” Auriemma said. “You saw all the players here, means a lot to them. Every single person that had a hand in all this, means a lot to them to be a part of it, want to share in it. I’m sure when the season’s over I’ll be able to look back on it and think about it.” Surrounded by the greatest players in UConn history, including Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Maya Moore and Rebecca Lobo, Auriemma and longtime assistant Chris Dailey took in the incredible achievement in a postgame ceremony. “It’s not very often in life you get to experience something that’s never been done before and that you get to experience something that will never be done again,” Lobo said. More than 60 alums of the program were in attendance. Nearly two dozen of them played in the WNBA. The former UConn players were part of the record 11 national championships that the school has won. UConn has reached the Final Four 23 times, including in 15 of the past 16 seasons. Before the game, the school presented the pair with ruby colored glass basketballs in honor of their 40 years at UConn. It was a day of celebrations for Auriemma and Dailey. There was a petting zoo with, fittingly, goats across from the arena as well as ice cream from the famous UConn Dairy Barn. They created a flavor “Legend-Berry Legacy” in honor of the two coaches. The ceremony ended with a goat coming out on the red carpet and Auriemma taking a photo with it. He later said that he scratched himself while petting it. Auriemma and Dailey received ladders from Nike and Connecticut governor Ned Lamont presented a sign that said “Welcome to Connecticut, home of the winningest coach in basketball history.” His current team presented Auriemma with a framed jersey with the number 1,217 on it. The student section, during the final minute of the game, held up cards that spelled out 1,217. “He gives credit to everybody around him, and he doesn’t really take it for himself,” Huskies star Paige Bueckers said. “But what he’s built here, it’s here because of him, so he definitely downplays it. He doesn’t want to do the whole thing: the celebration, the goats, the ice cream, it’s all extra to him. But he deserves it, and we want to celebrate him, because he doesn’t celebrate himself a lot. So everyone around him will make sure they do that job.” Auriemma began his journey with UConn in 1985 and currently is 1,217-162 in his career. He has only had one losing season in his career — his first one with the Huskies. Before he came to the school from Virginia, the program had only one winning season. VanDerveer offered her congratulations to Auriemma after the game. “This is yet another outstanding milestone in a career filled with them for Geno Auriemma. The level of success he has maintained at UConn over four decades will never be duplicated,” she said in a statement. “But his tremendous legacy extends far beyond any number of wins. It lives in the lives of the countless young women he has positively influenced throughout his career. Congratulations to Geno and Chris on this incredible accomplishment.”

Sean "Diddy" Combs’ attempt to secure bail was stalled after a contentious two-hour hearing in New York on Friday, Nov. 21. The 55-year-old mogul, charged with sex trafficking and racketeering, appeared before federal Judge Arun Subramanian, who postponed making a decision on Combs' $50 million bail request. Instead, the judge directed both the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Combs' defense team to provide more detailed information on how the accused has been communicating from behind bars during his two months of detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, as per a report by Deadline. The deadline for submitting this information is set for 12 p.m. ET on November 25, with a ruling expected shortly thereafter, potentially before Thanksgiving. Focus on Communication from Jail At the heart of the delay is the judge's request for clarification on the forms of communication available to Combs while incarcerated. Prosecutors have raised concerns that the rap mogul may have used prison resources to contact potential witnesses, further complicating his bail bid. The defense team, however, insists that the government’s concerns are exaggerated, arguing that Combs has not tampered with evidence or attempted to intimidate witnesses. In a notable exchange, Combs’ attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, referenced a modified gag order imposed on former President Donald Trump during his New York criminal trial, highlighting that such an order allowed Trump to criticize the case against him freely. The judge has asked the legal teams to specifically address how much leeway Combs should be granted in publicly defending himself while behind bars. Security Concerns and Opposition to Bail While the defense has proposed strict bail conditions, including a $50 million bond, 24/7 private security, and limits on external contacts, the prosecution remains firmly opposed to Combs' release. Pretrial services officials, who evaluate the conditions under which bail may be granted, sided with the prosecutors and recommended against granting bail. They expressed concern that Combs could continue to exert influence over potential witnesses, including victims of his alleged abuse. The prosecution has repeatedly highlighted efforts by Combs to intimidate and “blackmail” potential witnesses. One of the central pieces of evidence presented by the government is a video of an alleged 2016 assault on Combs' former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Prosecutors argue that the footage, which shows Combs attacking Ventura, is key evidence in the case and supports their claims of coercion and abuse. Controversy Over Evidence and Legal Privilege The defense has continued to challenge the validity of evidence obtained during a recent sweep of Combs’ jail cell. The defense contends that the materials seized—19 pages of notes—are privileged and related to Combs’ legal strategy for his upcoming trial. They also argue that some of the footage presented by the prosecution, particularly the video of the incident with Ventura, was altered to distort the events. In response, the prosecution insists that all materials were obtained through standard procedures and that nothing in the seized documents was privileged. The defense has also requested that the case be dismissed, accusing the prosecution of manipulating evidence to prevent Combs from securing bail. They argue that the charges against Combs are based on a flawed and biased portrayal of events, exacerbated by media coverage. Living Arrangements and Bail Package To secure his release, Combs’ legal team has offered a comprehensive bail package, including a $50 million bond, ankle monitors, and private security surveillance. Additionally, Combs has proposed that he be allowed to reside in one of his properties in New York or Miami, with strict supervision on his interactions. The defense contends that Combs is not a flight risk, as his passport has already been seized by authorities. Despite the ongoing legal battles, Combs' defense maintains that the charges against him are unfounded and that his reputation has been severely damaged by the government's actions. With a trial set for May 5, 2024, Combs intends to face the charges in court and clear his name. FAQs Who is the richest rapper? President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday nominated Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the US ambassador to France, in the latest of several controversial picks. Kushner "is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests," Trump said on his Truth Social website, adding that Jared "worked closely with me in the White House." The choice is in keeping with Trump's pattern, so far, of selecting people, often wealthy, who are close to his family or of proven loyalty. Kushner is a multimillionaire real estate executive and former attorney; his son was a senior adviser during Trump's first term. Trump did not mention, however, that the elder Kushner once served jail time -- a two-year sentence, most of it served in a federal prison. Kushner, who is now 70, pleaded guilty in 2004 to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering and making illegal campaign contributions. The case, which was prosecuted by then US attorney Chris Christie, included sordid details, to which Kushner admitted: that he had hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, a man cooperating in a campaign finance inquiry, and then videotaped the encounter and sent it to the man's wife, Kushner's sister, to dissuade her from testifying against him. Christie, who worked on Trump's first presidential transition team and then opposed him in this year's Republican primary contests, later said Kushner had committed a "loathsome" and "disgusting crime." In 2020, Trump issued a pardon to Kushner, whose conviction had resulted in him being disbarred in three states. Nominees for key ambassadorships are often business associates of a president-elect, or major political donors. But it is rare, if not unprecedented, to name a convicted felon. The first two men to fill the prestigious Paris post were famed inventor and statesman Benjamin Franklin and a future president, Thomas Jefferson.
