Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley, the wife of former Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley, has resigned from the party with immediate effect. Ms Dwane Stanley was the party's only councillor on Laois County Council. Her husband, Independent TD Brian Stanley, who previously chaired the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee, left Sinn Féin in October following a bitter dispute. In a statement on her Facebook page on Friday night, Ms Dwane Stanley said she had given “careful consideration and reflection over the recent past” in regard to her decision to resign her membership of Sinn Féin. “Given how the party leadership dealt with the controversy that arose in July and related matters since then including outright attacks on both me personally and my family by some local party members, I have come to the conclusion that Laois Sinn Féin is not a safe place to be. “I had hoped that the party at leadership level would have made the effort to engage with me directly and give some support and assistance to me to try and deal with these matters.” However, no contact has been made by Sinn Féin leadership over the past five months, she added. The Laois councillor said that while the party has always prided itself on the values of equality and in particular supports for women in politics, "in my case this has proven to be a fallacy". “With this in mind I have decided that the time is right for me to draw a line on 2024 and resign, look to the future and embrace what I hope will be a better political future in the time ahead." She said she will continue in her role as an independent republican councillor "providing vigorous and effective representation for the Portlaoise/Abbeyleix Municipal District". In October, Brian Stanley resigned from Sinn Féin, launching a scathing attack on the process. In July, a complaint was lodged with Sinn Féin from a "longstanding member" about the Laois-Offaly TD. He claimed that in recent months "a certain clique within the party have gone to extreme lengths” to damage his reputation and character. At the time, he said: "Given what has transpired and the work of my legal team, what is very clear is this process lacked objectivity, was seriously flawed and was devoid of impartiality. “This ‘inquiry’ has been shown to have lacked any shred of credibility, not least due to a significant abuse of process. In many ways it resembled a type of kangaroo court. Legal examination of this matter will continue."

"Even at the time of Independence, it was one of our biggest health challenges. Malaria ranks third among all infectious diseases that kill children between one month and five years of age. Today, I can say with satisfaction that the countrymen have collectively, strongly fought this challenge," he said in the radio broadcast. He highlighted the report of the World Health Organization (WHO) which mentions, "In India, there has been an 80 percent reduction in the number of malaria cases and deaths due to it between 2015 and 2023." Underscoring that this success has been achieved through everyone's participation, the prime minister especially mentioned the contribution of tea garden dwellers of Jorhat in Assam and the people of the Kurukshetra district of Haryana for taking the war against malaria more vigorously. "In the tea gardens of Jorhat in Assam, malaria used to be a major cause of concern for people until four years ago. But when the tea garden dwellers united to eradicate it, they started getting success to a great extent. In this effort, they have made full use of technology as well as social media," he said. "Similarly, the Kurukshetra district of Haryana has presented a very good model for controlling malaria. Here, public participation for monitoring Malaria has been quite successful. Through street plays and radio, emphasis was laid on messages which helped a lot in reducing the breeding of mosquitoes", he further stated. Smile 2’s Terrifying Hallway Scene Was Choreographed Like a Dance By Director opened up about ‘s terrifying hallway scene, which was created to look like a dance sequence. Since its theatrical debut, the -led horror sequel has received a Certified Fresh score of 86% on , based on 195 reviews. “About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events,” reads the synopsis. “Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.” How Smile 2’s terrifying hallway scene was made During an interview with , Finn revealed they worked with dance choreographer Celia Rowlson-Hawl to bring Smile 2’s terrifying hallway scene to life. He also recalled how it exciting it was to shoot the iconic sequence, and confirmed that everyone on set was impressed. “This scene was fully choreographed. I worked with my choreographer, Celia Rowlson-Hall, and several of the troupe in there are from her backup dancers as well. So there’s that continuity,” Finn shared. “We always talked about it almost feeling like... I was curious to see if I could do something that felt just as much Hideo Nakata as it does Bob Fosse, you know? So we talked about like All That Jazz and that sort of thing.” He continued, “But the trick of it was creating this red light, green light game that instantly the Smiler starts cheating at. So you can’t quite wrap your hands around the rules of it. The trick was that Naomi was at the center of this choreography, but for her, it needed to feel like she was just reacting and not performing the steps of what really is almost like a dance. I’m really excited about how it came together and how it starts playful and creepy but then takes this turn and becomes incredibly violating, violent, awful, and nightmarish.” is once again written and directed by Parker Finn. The first installment was based on his 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept. Additional cast includes Raúl Castillo, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Daphne Zelle, Zebedee Row, and A Nightmare on Elm Street alum . It is produced by Finn, Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner, and Robert Salerno. Maggie Dela Paz has been writing about the movie and TV industry for more than four years now. Besides being a fan of coming-of-age films and shows, she also enjoys watching K-Dramas and listening to her favorite K-Pop groups. Her current TV obsessions right now are FX’s The Bear and the popular anime My Hero Academia. Share article
