Will Riley scored a game-high 19 points off the bench as No. 25 Illinois shrugged off a slow start to earn an 87-40 nonconference victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday afternoon in Champaign, Ill. Morez Johnson Jr. recorded his first double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, Kylan Boswell posted 13 points and Tomislav Ivisic contributed 11 for Illinois (4-1). Coming off a 100-87 loss to No. 8 Alabama on Wednesday, the Illini led by as much as 52 despite hitting just 10-of-40 3-point attempts. Jalen Ware paced Maryland Eastern Shore (2-6) with 10 points before fouling out. Ketron "KC" Shaw, who entered Saturday in the top 20 of Division I scorers at 22.3 points per game, went scoreless in the first half and finished with seven points on 2-of-11 shooting. The Hawks canned just 22.1 percent of their shots from the floor. Illinois broke out to a 6-0 lead in the first 2:06, then missed its next six shots. That gave the Hawks time to pull into an 8-8 tie on Evan Johnson's 17-foot pullup at the 12:21 mark. That marked Maryland Eastern Shore's last points for more than seven minutes as the Illini reeled off 17 straight points to remove any suspense. Johnson opened the spree with a basket and two free throws, Ben Humrichous swished a 3-pointer and Tre White sank a layup before Kasparas Jakucionis fed Ivisic for a 3-pointer and an alley-oop layup. Jakucionis set up Johnson for a free throw, then drove for an unchallenged layup to make it 25-8 with 5:15 left in the first. Evan Johnson snapped the visitors' dry spell with a driving layup at the 4:56 mark, but Illinois went on to establish a 35-15 halftime lead on the stretch of 11 offensive rebounds that turned into 12 second-chance points and 13 points off UMES' 10 turnovers. Maryland Eastern Shore needed nearly four minutes to get its first points in the second half as Illinois pushed its lead to 42-15. The Illini margin ballooned all the way to 70-24 on Boswell's driving layup with 8:11 to go. --Field Level Media

TEHRAN - In a note, Arman-e-Melli discussed the revival of the negotiations and wrote: Now it seems that the situation is changing. The head of the new government in the U.S. is the same person who quit the JCPOA. Nevertheless, Tehran has declared that it will support negotiations with the U.S. if it meets Iran’s interests. Tehran does not shun negotiations to protect its interests even with the United States. This time Iran is the pioneer in this regard. It seems the Europeans think they will practically be sidelined after the Trump administration starts its work on January 20. Therefore, they are trying to revive their mediation role between Iran and the United States in the Trump administration to create a new playing field for themselves in order not to fall behind the power distribution in the world in the future. Europe should not tie Ukraine to its relations with Iran more than this. Iran should also try to convince Europe that it has no benefit in the fight against Ukraine and has never supported the tension in Europe. These negotiations can be the basis of the new JCPOA, and the parties will not allow more tension in bilateral relations with continuous negotiations on a new nuclear deal. All signatories to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) have the right to use nuclear technology for human welfare to improve living standards and share technological know-how with other countries. However, countries with nuclear technology have formed a club for themselves and do not allow other countries to join. In addition, they do not fulfill their duty to provide nuclear technology to other countries and make false accusations against other countries like Iran in order to deprive them of the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy. We will not allow our right to civilian use of nuclear technology to be denied. The Islamic Republic of Iran is decisive in this regard, and ultimately the International Atomic Energy Agency must change its approach and not prevent us from enjoying this right by raising ambiguities about our nuclear program. Siasat-e-Rooz dedicated its editorial to the negotiations between Iran and the European troika that will start on Friday and said: It is clear that in the current situation that less than a year is left for the expiration of the nuclear agreement, negotiations with Europe without the participation of the United States cannot be politically logical. Maybe due to the lack of political logic in the past years, and there is no trust in them. Currently, building nuclear weapons is not part of Iran's military doctrine. But the West should note that if wrong policies against Iran continue, the possibility of building nuclear arms cannot be ruled out. In fact, the approach the West has taken against Islamic Iran is not diplomatic. Rather they are forcing Iran to build nuclear weapons. In the process of negotiations that are supposed to be held after the resolution of the Board of Governors against Iran, the Iranian negotiators should not show weakness. They should enter the negotiation with strength. Either way, the negotiations will not produce results, and even if they reach an agreement, it will be to the detriment of Iran, just like the previous agreements. In an interview with Hamidreza Jalaeipour, a reformist political activist, Ettelaat discussed possible negotiations between Iran and the United States. He said: In the deeper and more strategic cooperation of the Islamic Republic with Arab and Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia, it is enough to pay attention to the recent trips of Foreign Minister Araghchi. Also, during his visit to the United Nations, Pezeshkian defended the interaction with all world powers. On the other hand, we can point out the recent cooperation of the Islamic Republic with the authorities of Lebanon and Hezbollah and the declaration of Iran's readiness for new negotiations with the United States on various issues. It may be said that America and Europe are not yet ready to negotiate with the Islamic Republic, yet the important thing is that, unlike the past, Iran is ready for direct negotiations with America. What is obvious is that the sanctions and threats of America and Europe against Iran do not work, but increase the capacity of Iran's nuclear power. The solution to problems is negotiation, and Trump himself understands this a little bit. If Iran enters talks with America and Europe, then the Islamic Republic can better interact with China and Russia.Walmart ( WMT 2.32% ) may be the largest company in the U.S. by sales, but it keeps making its top line bigger. For a while, it looked like competitor Amazon ( AMZN -0.64% ) was poised to overtake it, but Walmart is just too big and doing too well to catch. It's a battle of true titans, as both companies boast more than $600 billion in revenues over the last four quarters. Walmart delivered another outstanding quarterly report last week, and the growth drivers behind the results might surprise you. Two factors helping it along are e-commerce growth and an improving ability to attract higher-income customers -- areas that have not historically been among its strong points. But Walmart has been making strategic changes in its e-commerce business, and it's taking off. Can Walmart flip its business and challenge Amazon in e-commerce? Late to the e-commerce party Walmart was late to the e-commerce boom, so it missed out on some early opportunities to dominate it. As the largest retailer in the U.S., it could have had an edge. However, it has been developing a strong e-commerce business over the past few years. It was already well positioned when the pandemic struck and customers switched to online shopping, and although it's way behind Amazon, it's still in second place. In its fiscal 2025 third quarter, which ended Oct. 31, total sales were up 5.5% year over year, but e-commerce sales were up 27%. In the U.S., sales were up 5.3% while e-commerce sales were up 22%. Management called out several growth drivers in the report: in-store order fulfillment, in-store pickup, advertising, and marketplace. In its international segment, e-commerce revenues increased 43% year over year, driven by in-store order fulfillment, in-store pickup, and marketplace. Meanwhile, for its Sam's Club subsidiary -- a warehouse membership chain similar to Costco Wholesale -- e-commerce sales increased 26%, a gain notably powered by in-store order fulfillment and pickup. Management attributed much of that performance improvement to its growing ability to attract higher-income customers through strategies such as expanding its product lines in areas that appeal to them. It said that population accounted for 75% of Walmart's market share gains in the quarter. Walmart's e-commerce business isn't profitable yet, but it has the money to keep scaling it until it is -- and management is confident that it will get there. Stacking up against Amazon Walmart's e-commerce growth might be outpacing Amazon's. Although the metrics might not be directly comparable, Amazon's net sales from its online stores increased by 7% in the third quarter, while revenues from third-party sellers increased 10% and advertising sales increased by 19%. Walmart isn't likely to catch up to Amazon in online sales anytime soon. Last year, Amazon was responsible for 37.6% of U.S. e-commerce sales, while Walmart's share was just 6.4%, according to a Statista report. But it could be capturing more market share, and at Walmart's level, the dollar amount is huge. With its network of more than 4,600 stores in the U.S., Walmart has some edges over Amazon. Amazon can't offer the same in-store pickup options and other omnichannel benefits that physical retailers like Walmart provide. That may not be enough to outweigh the edges Amazon derives from its logistics network or its Prime membership program, but it ensures that Walmart will keep a certain share of e-commerce sales from shoppers who prefer the benefits of physical stores. Walmart is still a much larger company than Amazon, and instead of losing market share, it looks like it's gaining. I have hypothesized for a while that Amazon is going to overtake Walmart, but although the gap is still closing, (mostly due to Amazon's non-e-commerce segments), it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. With its strong e-commerce business, Walmart might fend off Amazon even longer. WMT Revenue (TTM) data by YCharts Is Walmart stock a buy? Walmart's phenomenal results were reported at the same time as competitor Target , which had a completely different experience over the same time period. Its e-commerce division is growing faster than Amazon, Target, and Costco. But while Walmart stock has been looking more attractive lately, it's not cheap. It trades at a P/E ratio of 36, which is higher than its five-year average of 31. This may not be the best time to buy. However, Walmart is a long-term play, and it also pays a reliably growing dividend . This all-weather stock is beating the market this year, up 67%. That's better than many growth stocks. You could buy it at any time and accrue steady gains over many years.

Now Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens can rest a bit. They've certainly earned it. Baltimore's 31-2 rout of Houston on Wednesday capped a sweep of a grueling stretch of three games in 11 days. Baltimore looked like a Super Bowl contender while handling the Giants, Steelers and Texans. A win next week would give the Ravens the AFC North title — and a third MVP award for Jackson seems to be very much in play. “These guys took these three games in 11 days and smashed it, obliterated it, tore it up and made into a bunch of smithereens laying around everywhere,” coach John Harbaugh said. “I’m proud of the guys (and) how they did it. They did a great job.” Jackson’s passer rating is up to 121.6 on the season. The NFL record is 122.5 by Aaron Rodgers in 2011. Derrick Henry has 1,783 yards rushing, the second most of his career. Justin Tucker, who has struggled to an alarming degree this season, made a 52-yard field goal that went right down the middle in the first quarter Wednesday. A win next week would be Baltimore's 12th of the season — only one behind the number that gave the Ravens the league's best regular-season record in 2023. They won't be the top seed this season, but a victory over Cleveland in Week 18 would mean a division title. Baltimore can also win the division if Pittsburgh loses to Cincinnati. “I believe how our season has gone — the regular season — it just explains how the NFL is. It really doesn’t matter how you start off. It’s about how you finish," Jackson said. "And I believe we’re finishing pretty well right now.” The Ravens lost their first two games of the season, but their open date came right before this tough 11-day stretch, which may have helped. Now they get some extra time to prepare for Cleveland. What's working The Ravens outrushed Houston 251-58, with Jackson scoring on a 48-yard run and Henry racing through big holes from the outset. Jackson passed Michael Vick to take over first place on the NFL's career list for yards rushing by a quarterback. The MVP odds at BetMGM on Thursday showed Buffalo’s Josh Allen (-250) as the favorite, but Jackson (+160) was by no means a long shot. “I’ve seen a lot of great plays from Lamar Jackson,” Harbaugh said. “I told him I was proud of him. I’m not just proud of him just because he makes great plays. I’m proud of him for all the things that go into making great plays and also for all the things he’s overcome along the way.” What needs work The Ravens have cycled through punt returners of late, and newcomer Steven Sims did not have much success in that area Wednesday. He was tackled at his 6-yard line on one return, and when a penalty made Houston do that punt over, the ball bounced inside the 10 and was downed at the 4, leading to a safety and the Texans' only points of the game. Stock up The Baltimore defense, such a liability at times earlier this season, held Houston without a point offensively. C.J. Stroud was sacked five times and threw an interception, and Joe Mixon rushed for only 26 yards. “I’d say we’ve come full circle,” cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. “It’s always good when you can have their offense not score. You’ve got to say you played pretty well. This is a testament to it all kind of coming together. I felt the coaching was there, and I just felt as players, ‘What is the formula to continue to get high percentages of 11 guys doing 11 guys’ jobs?’” Stock down Keaton Mitchell and Rasheen Ali managed only 17 yards on 12 carries. Justice Hill's absence following a concussion left Baltimore without an effective change-of-pace back to pair with Henry. Injuries Ali injured his hip in the third quarter and didn’t return, another blow to Baltimore's running back depth. Key numbers After a 99-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter, the Ravens now have 10 TD drives of 90-plus yards this season. That's the most in the NFL since at least 2000. Up next The Ravens face a Cleveland team that has only three wins entering Week 17 — although one of those victories was against Baltimore. The Ravens allowed 401 yards in a 29-24 loss at Cleveland in late October.ITV I'm A Celebrity star dubbed 'a machine' after performance in Bushtucker trialBoxing Day shopper footfall was down 7.9% from last year across all UK retail destinations up until 5pm, MRI Software’s OnLocation Footfall Index found. However, this year’s data had been compared with an unusual spike in footfall as 2023 was the first “proper Christmas” period without Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, an analyst at the retail technology company said. It found £4.6 billion will be spent overall on the festive sales. Before the pandemic the number of Boxing Day shoppers on the streets had been declining year on year. The last uplift recorded by MRI was in 2015. Jenni Matthews, marketing and insights director at MRI Software, told the PA news agency: “We’ve got to bear in mind that (last year) was our first proper Christmas without any (Covid-19) restrictions or limitations. “Figures have come out that things have stabilised, we’re almost back to what we saw pre-pandemic.” There were year-on-year declines in footfall anywhere between 5% and 12% before Covid-19 restrictions, she said. MRI found 12% fewer people were out shopping on Boxing Day in 2019 than in 2018, and there were 3% fewer in 2018 than in 2017, Ms Matthews added. She said: “It’s the shift to online shopping, it’s the convenience, you’ve got the family days that take place on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.” People are also increasingly stocking-up before Christmas, Ms Matthews said, and MRI found an 18% increase in footfall at all UK retail destinations on Christmas Eve this year compared with 2023. Ms Matthews said: “We see the shops are full of people all the way up to Christmas Eve, so they’ve probably got a couple of good days of food, goodies, everything that they need, and they don’t really need to go out again until later on in that week. “We did see that big boost on Christmas Eve. It looks like shoppers may have concentrated much of their spending in that pre-Christmas rush.” Many online sales kicked off between December 23 and the night of Christmas Day and “a lot of people would have grabbed those bargains from the comfort of their own home”, she said. She added: “I feel like it’s becoming more and more common that people are grabbing the bargains pre-Christmas.” Footfall is expected to rise on December 27 as people emerge from family visits and shops re-open, including Next, Marks and Spencer and John Lewis that all shut for Boxing Day. It will also be payday for some as it is the last Friday of the month. A study by Barclays Consumer Spend had forecast that shoppers would spend £236 each on average in the Boxing Day sales this year, but that the majority of purchases would be made online. Nearly half of respondents said the cost-of-living crisis will affect their post-Christmas shopping but the forecast average spend is still £50 more per person than it was before the pandemic, with some of that figure because of inflation, Barclays said. Amid the financial pressures, many people are planning to buy practical, perishable and essential items such as food and kitchenware. A total of 65% of shoppers are expecting to spend the majority of their sales budget online. Last year, Barclays found 63.9% of Boxing Day retail purchases were made online. However, a quarter of respondents aim to spend mostly in store – an 11% rise compared with last year. Karen Johnson, head of retail at Barclays, said: “Despite the ongoing cost-of-living pressures, it is encouraging to hear that consumers will be actively participating in the post-Christmas sales. “This year, we’re likely to see a shift towards practicality and sustainability, with more shoppers looking to bag bargains on kitchen appliances and second-hand goods.” Consumers choose in-store shopping largely because they enjoy the social aspect and touching items before they buy, Barclays said, adding that high streets and shopping centres are the most popular destinations.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are rising near records Monday and adding to last week’s gains. The S&P 500 was 0.1% higher, as of 12:56 p.m. Eastern time, and sitting a bit below its all-time high set two weeks ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 286 points, or 0.7%, to its own record set on Friday, while the Nasdaq composite was 0.1% higher. Treasury yields also eased in the bond market amid what some analysts called a “Bessent bounce” after President-elect Donald Trump said he wants Scott Bessent , a hedge fund manager, to be his Treasury Secretary. Bessent has advocated for reducing the U.S. government’s deficit, which is how much more it spends than it takes in through tax and other revenue. Such an approach could soothe worries on Wall Street that Trump’s policies may lead to a much bigger deficit, which in turn would put upward pressure on Treasury yields. After climbing above 4.44% immediately after Trump’s election, the yield on the 10-year Treasury fell back to 4.30% Monday, down from 4.41% late Friday. That’s a notable move, and lower yields help make it cheaper for all kinds of companies and households to borrow money. They also give a boost to prices for stocks and other investments. The two-year Treasury yield, which more closely tracks the market’s expectations for what the Federal Reserve will do with overnight interest rates, also slid. The Fed began cutting its main interest rate just a couple months ago from a two-decade high, hoping to keep the job market humming after bringing high inflation nearly all the way down to its 2% target. But immediately after Trump’s victory, traders reduced bets for how many cuts the Fed may deliver next year. They were worried Trump's preference for lower tax rates and higher spending on the border would balloon the national debt. On Monday, traders went back to increasing their bets for the number of cuts possible in 2025, according to data from CME Group. A report coming on Wednesday could influence how much the Fed may cut rates. Economists expect it to show that an underlying inflation trend the Fed prefers to use accelerated to 2.8% last month from 2.7% in September. Higher inflation would make the Fed more reluctant to cut rates as deeply or as quickly as it would otherwise. Goldman Sachs economist David Mericle expects that to slow by the end of next year to 2.4%, but he said inflation would be even lower if not for expected tariff increases on imports from China and autos favored by Trump. In the stock market, Bath & Body Works jumped 14.8% after delivering stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. The seller of personal care products and home fragrances also raised its financial forecasts for the full year, even though it still sees a “volatile retail environment” and a shorter holiday shopping season this year. Much focus has been on how resilient U.S. shoppers can remain, given high prices across the economy and still-high interest rates. Last week, two major retailers sent mixed messages. Target tumbled after giving a dour forecast for the holiday shopping season. It followed Walmart , which gave a much more encouraging outlook. Another big retailer, Macy’s, said Monday its sales for the latest quarter were in line with its expectations, but it will delay the release of its full financial results. It found a single employee had intentionally hid up to $154 million in delivery expenses, and it needs more time to complete its investigation. Macy’s stock fell 3.3%. Among the market's leaders were several companies related to the housing industry. Monday's drop in Treasury yields could translate into easier mortgage rates, which could spur activity for housing. Builders FirstSource, a supplier or building materials, rose 6.8% for one of the biggest gains in the S&P 500. Among homebuilders, D.R. Horton climbed 6.1%, PulteGroup added 5.9% and Lennar rose 5.5%. In stock markets abroad, indexes moved modestly across much of Europe after finishing mixed in Asia. In the crypto market, bitcoin was trading around $95,300 after threatening to hit $100,000 late last week for the first time. AP Business Writer Elaine Kurtenbach contributed.

Devonshire Colts 4 Young Men’s Social Club 0 Keino Burch scored twice to lead Devonshire Colts to victory against Social Club at a blustery Police Field on Saturday. Colts stamped their authority despite Social Club holding an extremely deep defensive line in an attempt to close down all passing lanes into dangerous positions. Their main objective was to utilise the pace and skill of Malique Wilson and Pierre Smith on the counter-attack, but they were unable to fire thanks to a lack of cohesion and quality they tried to play through their opponents. About ten minutes into the game Social Club decided to come out of their shell and set up in a mid-block, with the midfield positioned just inside their own half as Colts enjoyed the majority of possession. Social Club were far too predictable on the fleeting occasion they got into the opposition half, forcing the ball to the right at least 60 percent of the time in the opening stages. This made it extremely easy for Colts to shift their defensive shape across and shut down the little danger that Wilson and Trey Tucker posed on the right flank. Colts constantly probed with the majority of control and finally opened the scoring on 17 minutes after a poor defensive mistake. Jahkeylo Burgess found Daniel Ball in space on the left side and Jakida Richardson missed his challenge, allowing Ball to square to the six-yard box, where Burch bundled the loose ball through a congested area into the net. Social Club finally started to use the left side more often and their one promising attack in the first half came when Jinairo Johnston found Pierre Smith, but the winger failed to get the correct weight on his through pass to Josh Hardtman. Just before half-time, Colts doubled their lead in controversial circumstances as Brandon O'Connor attempted to find the diagonal run of Chemarl Henry. His pass was deflected into the sky by Callon Woolridge and Burch controlled it before driving into space and finishing low into the far corner past Tuzo. The linesman originally judged Burch offside but referee Kentoine Jennings overruled his assistant and allowed the goal to stand, much to the chagrin of Social Club supporters. Social Club created their best chance of the afternoon midway through the second half when Josh Hardtman switched the play to the left via Smith, who found the overlapping Richardson to cut the ball back for Johnson but his effort failed to test Colts goalkeeper Jaden Mills-Furbert. Colts captain Chemarl Henry made it three with 15 minutes remaining before Ball got his second assist of the day when he squared for O'Connor to wrap up the scoring in stoppage time with his third goal of the campaign. Josh Allen is winning on and off the field. The Buffalo Bills quarterback had a heartwarming response to a reporter asking how he felt taking home a victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 1 while newly engaged to Hailee Steinfeld . "Felt good," Josh said of his experience playing as a fiancé during the post-game conference alongside wide receiver Amari Cooper Dec. 1. "Felt free." It's been an eventful few days for the football player— who was on the field for the first time since his proposal —as he also became the first quarterback in NFL history during the 49ers face-off to pass for, rush for and catch a touchdown in a single game, Sunday Night Football on NBC confirmed. And just a week before, the 28-year-old—who also broke the record for the most touchdowns in the Bills' franchise history during the match— got down on one knee and proposed to the Hawkeye star by a flower-adorned arch overlooking the glimmering waves. Despite the recent update on their relationship status, Josh and Hailee, 27, have kept their romance close to their chests . In fact, after announcing their sweet milestone, the NFL player danced around the news while reflecting on his bye week. "It was fantastic," he said of the time off during a Nov. 27 press conference. "It was great. I got some sun, hung out with family. It was fantastic." But Josh's decision to keep his and Hailee's relationship private wasn't made lightly. He previously shared how surprised he was at people's interest in their relationship and the lengths that some paparazzi had gone to for photos. "The fact anybody cares about that still blows my mind," he admitted on the Pardon My Take podcast last August. "They were on a boat. I saw it and I just felt this gross feeling. The insecurity, no privacy. I was like, 'What's wrong with you?'" That doesn't mean he and the Edge of Seventeen star don't share any details about their personal life, however. With Christmas around the corner, Hailee recently revealed that they both got each other the same gift last year and the adorable story behind their exchange. "I got this knife for Josh last year for Christmas because cooking is something we love to do together," she shared in her newsletter Beau Society in October, per Sports Illustrated . "For Christmas he got me...the same one in a different colorway!" "After we exchanged our knives lol ," she continued, "he told me there's an old wive's tale that if you gift your significant other a knife you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship. So we exchanged quarters so we didn't have that bad omen." Keep reading for more of Hailee and Josh's winning romance.
