Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has inaugurated a state-of-the-art electronic gate (E-GATE) system at the Kotoka International Airport, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation. The new system aims to streamline passenger processing, offering faster and more efficient clearance for travelers upon arrival. Dr. Bawumia, who launched the E-GATE on December 3, emphasized that the system represents Ghana’s entry into a new era of digital innovation, enhancing both security and passenger convenience. “Our E-GATE leverages cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, biometrics, and advanced data processing systems to provide a seamless travel experience,” he said. “With the capability to facilitate E-visas, Ghana is now well-equipped for the future of border management.” The E-GATE system, which will be implemented at major airports across the country, is also designed to bolster national security. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Connecticut couple has been charged in Minnesota with being part of a shoplifting ring suspected of stealing around $1 million in goods across the country from the upscale athletic wear retailer Lululemon. Jadion Anthony Richards, 44, and Akwele Nickeisha Lawes-Richards, 45, both of Danbury, Connecticut, were charged this month with one felony count of organized retail theft. Both went free last week after posting bail bonds of $100,000 for him and $30,000 for her, court records show. They're due back in Ramsey County District Court in St. Paul on Dec. 16. According to the criminal complaints, a Lululemon investigator had been tracking the pair even before police first confronted them on Nov. 14 at a store in suburban Roseville. The investigator told police the couple were responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses across the country, the complaints said. They would steal items and make fraudulent returns, it said. Police found suitcases containing more than $50,000 worth of Lululemon clothing when they searched the couple's hotel room in Bloomington, the complaint said. According to the investigator, they were also suspected in thefts from Lululemon stores in Colorado, Utah, New York and Connecticut, the complaint said. Within Minnesota, they were also accused of thefts at stores in Minneapolis and the suburbs of Woodbury, Edina and Minnetonka. The investigator said the two were part of a group that would usually travel to a city and hit Lululemon stores there for two days, return to the East Coast to exchange the items without receipts for new items, take back the new items with the return receipts for credit card refunds, then head back out to commit more thefts, the complaint said. In at least some of the thefts, it said, Richards would enter the store first and buy one or two cheap items. He'd then return to the sales floor where, with help from Lawes-Richards, they would remove a security sensor from another item and put it on one of the items he had just purchased. Lawes-Richards and another woman would then conceal leggings under their clothing. They would then leave together. When the security sensors at the door went off, he would offer staff the bag with the items he had bought, while the women would keep walking out, fooling the staff into thinking it was his sensor that had set off the alarm, the complaint said. Richards' attorney declined comment. Lawes-Richards' public defender did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday. “This outcome continues to underscore our ongoing collaboration with law enforcement and our investments in advanced technology, team training and investigative capabilities to combat retail crime and hold offenders accountable,” Tristen Shields, Lululemon's vice president of asset protection, said in a statement. "We remain dedicated to continuing these efforts to address and prevent this industrywide issue.” The two are being prosecuted under a state law enacted last year that seeks to crack down on organized retail theft. One of its chief authors, Sen. Ron Latz, of St. Louis Park, said 34 states already had organized retail crime laws on their books. “I am glad to see it is working as intended to bring down criminal operations," Latz said in a statement. "This type of theft harms retailers in myriad ways, including lost economic activity, job loss, and threats to worker safety when crime goes unaddressed. It also harms consumers through rising costs and compromised products being resold online.” Two Minnesota women were also charged under the new law in August. Gemini AI is the focus, but several areas have been updated, including the Screenshots search facility, AI-powered call screening, and new software to search through your photos and videos: "The latest Pixel Drop1 brings more intelligent, helpful and intuitive features to your devices, with new ways to use Gemini, camera improvements and security updates. The latter includes more personalisation options, a new user interface for the camera, and a simplified home screen. As for the former, Samsung is highlighting two: Advanced writing assist tools, with AI-powered content summarising, spelling and grammar checks, and notes formatting. Call transcript eliminates the need to take notes manually while multi-tasking, as recorded calls can be transcribed in 20 languages." ( Samsung ) The Pixel Tablet That Was Reports of the cancellation of the long-awaited Pixel Tablet 2 have been building over the week and the community has accepted that, while there may be a Pixel Tablet 2 released in late 2025 or beyond, it’s not the Pixel Tablet that’s sitting inside Google right now. So the leaked specs are less “what comes next” but “what could have been.” A bigger question than the cancellation is what the ipact will be on Android’s tablet ecosystem: "impact of the Pixel Tablet 2 cancellation is in the ecosystem. Android’s support of large-screened devices falls behind Apple’s efforts to keep iPad hardware tightly connected. With the Pixel Tablet launch, Google made a strong statement of support to its Android partners that tablets were part of its consideration. Happy Ten Plus One, OnePlus In an extensive post that looks back at its eleven-year history, OnePlus has confirmed that the latest OnePlus 13 handsets will have a global launch in January 2025: "As we look forward to 2025, I’m excited about what’s ahead. Qualcomm's New Mid-Range Benchmark Just as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is driving the next generation of Android smartphones, the soon-to-be-launched and presumptively named Snapdragon 8s Elite could offer a similar step up in performance to the mid-range handsets currently running the 8s Gen 2 and 8s Gen 3 chipsets: "we thought the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 was a great upper mid-range processor. Our own testing revealed that the POCO F6 (Snapdragon 8s Gen 3) was able to beat the POCO F6 Pro (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2) for single-core CPU performance while staying competitive during GPU stress tests. So don’t be surprised if the Snapdragon 8s Elite takes the fight to phones like the Galaxy S24 series." ( Android Authority ). And Finally... During the launch of the Pixel 9 family, Google confirmed that the four handsets woudl recieve seven years of software and security updates. That’s a far cry form the three years offered to the Pixel 6. Those years expired in October with the release of Android 15, but an update to its support pages shows that Google has handed the Pixel 6 an additional two years: “[Pixel 7a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro & Pixel Fold] will get updates for 5 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US. This includes 5 years of OS and security updates, and may also include new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops. ( Google Support ). In the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, Shinde Sena's Gulabrao Ragunath Patil and Nationalist Congress Party's (Sharad Pawar faction) Gulabrao Deokar are witnessing a tough fight in Jalgaon Rural seat. While Gulabrao Patil represents the Mayayuti alliance, consisting of BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, Gulabrao Deokar is fighting on behalf of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)- consisting of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), Indian National Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar). Gulabrao Patil, of undivided Shiv Sena, had won the Jalgaon Rural seat in 2014 and 2019. After the split in the party, Gulabrao Patil went into the Eknath Shinde-led faction. MVA, which is the opposition bloc, is locked in a close contest with the ruling Mahayuti front in the elections to the 288-member assembly. Counting of votes are taking place today. Who won Jalgaon Rural in last Maharashtra elections? Gulab Raghunath Patil has won the seat for two out of the three elections held since its formation in 2008. Patil had won the seat in 2019 by defeating an Independent candidate Attarade Chandrashekhar Prakash with a margin of 46729 votes. He secured over 53 percent of the total votes. In 2014 Maharashtra elections, Shivsena candidate Patil Gulab Raghunath won and became MLA from this seat. He secured total 84,020 votes. Nationalist Congress Party candidate Deokar Gulabrao Baburao stood second with total 52653 votes.
