What happened? Michigan players tried to plant an "M" flag on the "Block O" after a stunning 13-10 victory against No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday. Several Buckeyes left the post-game tradition of singing "Carmen Ohio" to quite literally meet the Wolverines at midfield. Per the Ohio State Police, "multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan used pepper spray." Following the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in breaking up an on-field altercation. During the scuffle, multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for games & will continue to investigate. "I don't know all the details of it, but I know these guys were looking to put a flag on our field and our guys were not going to let that happen," Day said. "We're embarrassed of the fact we lost, but there are some prideful guys on our team that weren't going to let that happen." The ugly scene marred the latest upset that will be etched into The Game rivalry lore, but it is a distraction from the main talking point. Michigan planted the same flag at Ohio Stadium two years after a 45-23 victory on Nov. 26, 2022, but that was a top-five team celebrating its first win in The Shoe since 2000. This was without question the Buckeyes' most embarrassing loss to the Wolverines over the last four years. The post-game fight is a distraction from the newly posed psychological test for Ohio State (10-2, 7-2), which lost the most important game of the season and now has to prepare for a run in the first 12-team College Football Playoff. What Ryan Day said after loss to Michigan Day – now 1-4 vs. Michigan – was left without an answer to what comes next after a loss in an all-in game against the Wolverines. Maybe that is because he simply does not have an answer for Michigan. "I don't know," Day said. "We're fresh off The Game. I don't really have the answer to that. We're very disappointed. Never thought this would happen right here." To be fair, few people did. The Buckeyes were three-score favorites. Michigan quarterback Davis Warren was 9 of 16 for 62 yards and two second-half interceptions to Ohio State standouts Caleb Downs and Jack Sawyer. That line alone would indicate a Buckeyes' win. Who had a 10-10 game at half? The Wolverines shutting out Ohio State in the second half? An upset that resembled the 14-9 shocker on Nov. 23, 1996 that was part of the lineage of John Cooper losses to inferior Michigan teams? And we're talking about planting a flag at midfield? What about the game plan? Ohio State continued to try to hammer at a Michigan run defense that featured future first-round picks Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant. Day seems hyper-obsessed with showing how tough the Buckeyes are in these big-game environments, especially against Notre Dame and Michigan. Ohio State had 26 carries for 77 yards. It was an imperfect balance with Will Howard – who was 19 of 33 for 175 yards, one TD and two costly interceptions. Jayden Fielding missed two field goals. "When we end up throwing 33 times out of 59 — more passes than runs — you can't just abandon the run.," Day said. "You have to be able to control the ball." "The turnovers, the rushing yards, you miss opportunities like those two field goals, yeah, it's going to cost you a game like this," he said. "Every yard matters. Every point matters." Michigan (7-5, 5-4) chipped away three-yards-at-a-time in 20-degree temperatures with Kalel Mulllings, who had 32 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown. He helped set up the game-winning field goal with a 27-yard run on third-and-6. Then, Mullings had some choice words for the Buckeyes afterward in a post-game interview with Fox's Jenny Taft. "At the end of the day they have to learn how to lose, man,” Mullings said. “We had 60 minutes, four quarters to do all that fighting. Now people want to talk and fight. That's bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion." This is an easy trap for Ohio State to fall into in order to find some explanation – any explanation – for the inability to take back control of a rivalry the Buckeyes have dominated for most of the 21st century. Ohio State is 17-7 against Michigan since 2000, but there was a fall-back each of the last three years. You cannot blame players having the flu, former Michigan assistant Connor Stalions stealing signs, a late interception by former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord or a post-game brawl. Michigan won the game. They planted a figurative flag at this point that the Buckeyes have not been able to tear down. In the end, Day will take the blame, and he accepted that afterward. "Everybody wants to win this game in the worst way, and nobody wants to win it more than we do," Day said. "It's our No. 1 goal every year. When you don't do that, that's disappointment and frustration." What's next for Ohio State? Now the challenge. Ohio State still is going to the College Football Playoff. The Big Ten championship is gone, but the chance to host a first-round home game is in the cards. The Buckeyes are good enough to win a national championship – but that will depend on the psyche of the team and the ability to block out the highly-toxic noise in Columbus about the failures against Michigan. A barely bowl-eligible Michigan team? This should not have happened. That game matters more than anything else, and we are about to find out just how much when Ohio State returns to the field. He had no comment about the post-game fight. He was one of the few who at least addressed what is next. He will start thinking about that Sunday. The Miami Dolphins need help at edge rusher, but reinforcements could be on the way. Coach Mike McDaniel announced Monday that Pro Bowl linebacker Bradley Chubb and third-year pass rusher Cameron Goode begin practicing this week after their 21-day activation windows were opened. “They’ll be out there practicing on Wednesday,” McDaniel told reporters . “That’s never lost on teammates when you have an extensive injury that happens in-season so then you are finishing the season rehabbing. “The offseason program, they’re watching them rehab. The beginning of the season, they’re watching them rehab. While everyone’s on vacation, they are here rehabbing. So it’ll be exciting to get their windows started and they’ll be practicing on Wednesday.” Chubb tore his ACL in Week 17 last season against the Baltimore Ravens , ending a career year with 11 sacks and six forced fumbles . Of course, once plugged into an amp all bets on that were off, given the breakup characteristics of the small combos that were common at the time. The RH pickups, which James and Szabó, for example, used, are held in place by clamps. The FH and Rhythm Chief models are floating pickups, mounted by what’s often called the “monkey-on-a-stick” method. Essentially, the pickups are held in place by a metal bar that’s screwed to a guitar’s body, and the pickups can slide up and down the bar, like a simian might scale a tree, to find the sweet spot. DeArmond’s Rhythm Chief 1100. By the time Robillard founded the swing and jump blues band Roomful of Blues in 1967, he was playing a Gretsch Synchromatic archtop fitted with a DeArmond, in quest of the authentic vintage tones he heard on records from the ’30s, ’40s and early ’50s. “Then I went to a ES-125, where I ended up finding a way to make a Rhythm Chief 1100 work in the neck position,” he recounts. “Then I added a P-90 for the bridge. I didn’t want to use a guitar with a cutaway because I wanted every setback that the guitar players in 1940 had. That stopped me from going high on the neck all the time, which I think was a discipline that made me a better musician.” Today, he uses a variety of DeArmond pickups on his guitars, but his favorite is the Rhythm Chief 1100, which has screwdriver-adjustable pole pieces. And he applies the tricks he’s learned over the years, like placing stick-on felt pads under DeArmonds positioned near the bridge, to raise the floating pickup to the correct height. He also notes there is an alternative to attaching the monkey stick behind the bridge. “A lot of jazz players would shorten the bar and have it flattened out, so you could screw it to the side of the neck. That became popular with guitarists who played Strombergs, D’Angelicos, and L-5s, for example. “The cheapest model [ ] is really the best-sounding one,” he continues. “And you need to use a wound G string on an archtop, or it’s going to howl like crazy. It is less of a pickup than a microphone. You can actually talk into it, and I’ve done gigs where something went wrong with the PA and I’ve sung through the pickup.” Robillard’s latest album, , includes “You Got Money,” played on his DeArmond-outfitted J.W. One more recommendation: “Use a small amp because that’s what they sound best with,” he says. “Small tube amps are what these pickups were made for, but if you’ve got a closed-back cabinet they tend to feed back on the low end. Yet the way the Auto Delay’s functions interact make it feel and sound unique. And while not every player will want to take the time to explore the sometimes complex interplay between its functions, at its best, the Auto Delay prompts unorthodox thinking about the ways touch dynamics or pitch relate to the delay colors you can create, prompting unexpected compositional vectors and a kind of extra-dimensional relationship to the fretboard. Routing, Rearranging, and Raging Like a Lunatic Though you can get lost in the Auto Delay (in good ways and bad), it isn’t necessarily the headache that its patch bay, LEDs, and many switches and knobs suggest. The idea behind the patch bay is simple: Routing a cable from one of the two dynamics or pitch automation input sockets to the level, tone, repeat, or time input sockets means that a change in, say, your picking intensity (dynamics) or where you play on the fretboard (pitch) increases or reduces the value for the parameter you linked to the dynamics or pitch socket. Even if you’ve not been indoctrinated in these methods via modular synthesis, it’s not as complicated as it sounds, and trial-and-error experimentation yields intuitive understanding of these interactions quickly. You can also manipulate the stereo spread or control the clock via MIDI. The Verdict The Auto Delay is not for the faint of heart or impatient. Grasping the interrelationships between the controls takes time. In fact, understanding how those interrelationships feel and respond musically will be more challenging for some than understanding how they work conceptually— which, while not elementary, can be sussed out with a careful read of the manual. But when you do find a rhythm and flow with the Auto Delay it can be richly rewarding and even meditative. Because it can reshape your relationship with the fretboard and your sense of touch, this is a great tool for extracting yourself from ruts, whether in technique or mood. And if you’re a musical tinkerer, the Auto Delay can provide much of the same satisfaction and sense of discovery you experience working with a synthesizer—particularly if you enjoy working in the hardware realm rather than on a computer screen. One should consider the scores here as especially subjective and on a sliding scale. The Auto Delay’s many sonic and functional idiosyncrasies will be nectar to some and poison to others. And more than most pedals, you should probably have a firsthand experience with the thing before you decide how and if it fits your musical objectives. The rift laid bare the tensions between the newest flank of Trump’s movement — wealthy members of the tech world including billionaire Elon Musk and fellow entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and their call for more highly skilled workers in their industry — and people in Trump’s Make America Great Again base who championed his hardline immigration policies. The debate touched off this week when Laura Loomer , a right-wing provocateur with a history of racist and conspiratorial comments, criticized Trump’s selection of Sriram Krishnan as an adviser on artificial intelligence policy in his coming administration. Krishnan favors the ability to bring more skilled immigrants into the U.S. Loomer declared the stance to be “not America First policy” and said the tech executives who have aligned themselves with Trump were doing so to enrich themselves. In Georgia Tech's final nonconference contest, the Yellow Jackets host Alabama A&M in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. Georgia Tech (5-7) has yet to beat a power conference team this season, earning wins over West Georgia, Texas Southern, Charleston Southern, Central Arkansas and UMBC. Losers in four of their last five games, the Yellow Jackets were stomped at home last time out by then-No. 5 Duke, extending a concerning trend against high-major opponents this season. In its six meetings with power conference teams, Georgia Tech has been outscored by an average of 14.3 points per game. McCaffrey will be placed on injured reserve for the second time this season after previously missing the first eight games with Achilles tendinitis. “I just feel for him,” Shanahan said. “It was a real frustrating year for him. He worked his ass off to get back to this point and I think he was really feeling good and about to take off and just had that real unfortunate injury last night. I know he’s as crushed as anyone, but he’ll get through this. He’s a hell of a player, a hell of a person and an unbelievable 49er.
