Since 2010, the actor has been a regular fixture on CBS on Friday nights, playing NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods . Blue Bloods wraps up its 14-season run on Dec. 13. Ahead of the highly anticipated series finale, let’s look back on the career of the iconic leading man. Selleck’s Hollywood career began after he appeared on The Dating Game while he was a student at the University of Southern California in the 1960s. That led to parts in commercials, TV shows such as Lancer, and movies like Myra Breckenridge . One of his first starring roles was in the 1972 horror movie Daughters of Satan. Selleck is known for his signature mustache, which he’s sported since his early days as an actor. He’s nearly unrecognizable sans-facial hair in this still from a 1974 episode of Wide World of Mystery. But the mustache wasn’t missing for long. It was on full display in a 1976 ad for Salem cigarettes. Selleck’s career took off in a major way in the 1980s, thanks to his lead role in Magnum P.I . He played Thomas Magnum, a private investigator living in Hawaii. The show ran for eight seasons from 1980 to 1988. Magnum turned Selleck into one of the most popular TV actors of the decade. In 1982, he was swarmed by reporters as he attended a rehearsal for the Golden Globes. The sudden fame was hard to adjust to. “I didn’t like it. Mainly because of family and a sense of privacy,” he said in a recent episode of the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast. “I started getting asked questions in interviews that I didn’t want to say—give an answer to.” In 1986, Selleck received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His mother, Martha Selleck, and his then-girlfriend Jillie Mack , were there to help mark the occasion. Selleck married Mack in 1987. They have one daughter and are still together today. In 1987, Selleck showed off his comedic chops in Three Men and a Baby. Selleck reached a new generation of TV viewers thanks to his role on Friends. He played Dr. Richard Burke, Monica’s (Courteney Cox) much-older love interest on 10 episodes of the hit sitcom. Between 2005 and 2015, Selleck played the title character of Jesse Stone in a series of made-for-TV movies based on the novels of Robert B. Parker. He’s talked about reviving the series now that Blue Bloods is over. Blue Bloods premiered in 2010, with Selleck in the key role of Frank Reagan. He’s the patriarch of a New York City family that’s dedicated their lives and careers to criminal justice. In late 2023, CBS announced that Blue Bloods would end after the upcoming 14th season. How a new electrical device is helping her move Highly pathogenic avian influenza surfaced in the United States in January 2022, the virus has been detected in wild birds and domestic poultry, according to the Fresno Bee’s previous reporting. As of Nov. 18, a total of 294 dairies in California were under quarantine due to the avian flu, state agriculture officials confirmed. More than 4 million turkeys and chickens have been killed at poultry ranches across the state in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading. Meanwhile, the bird flu virus was detected in a batch of raw milk from Raw Farm in Fresno County, the California Department of Public Health reported. The Fresno Bee talked to María Soledad, a food safety inspection service spokeswoman at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to learn more about the virus and how it affects food safety. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, highly pathogenic avian influenza — also known as bird flu or H5N1 — is a highly contagious and often deadly disease primarily found in poultry. It is “caused by highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5) and A (H7) viruses,” the agency said on its website. HPAI can spread from wild birds to domestic poultry and other animals. The virus can also infect humans in rare cases. “It is important to note that ‘highly pathogenic’ refers to severe impact in birds, not necessarily in humans,” the agency said. Unlike seasonal influenza viruses, which are typically contracted through human-to-human transmission, avian influenza viruses are spread by infected birds through saliva, mucus and feces, according to the CDC. The virus can also be present in the respiratory secretions, organs, blood, or body fluids of other infected animals — including milk. Human infections occur when the virus enters the eyes, nose or mouth, or is inhaled through airborne droplets, aerosol particles or dust. It can also be transmitted by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the face. “Illness in humans from avian influenza virus infections have ranged in severity from no symptoms or mild illness to severe disease that resulted in death,” the CDC said. “Consumers can safely enjoy turkey this holiday season,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration wrote in an email to The Bee, noting that food safety inspectors examine turkeys for disease “before and after slaughter.” That includes your Thanksgiving bird. “The turkeys from farms with confirmed avian influenza don’t even get sent to slaughter,” Soledad said. “They are destroyed on premises.” During an avian flu outbreak, “The chance of infected poultry or eggs entering the food chain is low,” the FDA said on its website in April, “because of the rapid onset of symptoms in poultry as well as the safeguards in place, which include testing of flocks and federal inspection programs.” “When food is properly prepared and stored, the risk of consumers becoming infected with HPAI is reduced even further,” the FDA said. UC Davis professor Linda J. Harris, who focuses on microbial food safety, says you should prepare your Thanksgiving turkey using four essential steps: clean, cook, chill and separate. On its Thanksgiving food safety website , the USDA has videos and information including calculators that help you determine the appropriate amount of time to thaw and cook your turkey. “Simply select your turkey’s weight, along with your preferred thawing and cooking methods, and you’ll immediately receive guidance on how to safely prepare your turkey this Thanksgiving!’ USDA congressional public affairs specialist Maria Machuca wrote in an email to The Bee. “There is no evidence that the virus can be transmitted to humans through properly prepared food,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on its website. Pasteurized milk and other dairy products are safe to consume and cook with, according to Hebah Ghanem, infectious disease specialist at University of California San Francisco, Fresno. “The most important thing that it has to be pasteurized, because the virus is killed with heat,” Ghanem told The Bee. “Pasteurization of milk was adopted decades ago as a basic public health measure to kill dangerous bacteria and largely eliminate the risk of getting sick,” the FDA said on its website. All egg products are pasteurized as required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “This means that they have been rapidly heated and held at a minimum required temperature for a specified time to destroy bacteria,” the agency said. However, eggs that are still in their shells aren’t required to be pasteurized, leading to potential health risks if eaten raw or uncooked. According to the CDC, avian flu symptoms in humans may include: California dairy workers infected with avian flu have experienced mild flu-like symptoms, The Bee previously reported. “All the cases that we have here in California are very mild,” Ghanem told the Fresno Bee in October. “They haven’t needed hospitalization.” To prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, people should avoid exposure to dead animals, Ghanem said in October. A lawyer for Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for defense secretary, has said the encounter was consensual. Authorities declined to bring charges in the case. Hegseth later paid the woman an undisclosed sum as part of a nondisclosure agreement. The documents offer the most detailed account yet of the steps police took to investigate Hegseth as part of an incident that has been roiling Trump’s team since the former president announced the former Fox News host was his pick to run the Defense Department. The accuser - referred to as “Jane Doe” in the 22-page batch of documents released in response to a public records request - met Hegseth at a Republican conference in Monterey, California, where he had been featured as a speaker. After observing Hegseth behaving “inappropriately” with women at the upscale hotel event, she said she confronted him, officers wrote, and the pair argued. “Doe” recalled Hegseth telling her that he was a “nice guy,” officers wrote. Her next memory was being in an unknown room with Hegseth, according to the police report. She stated that Hegseth then “took her phone from her hands” and blocked the door, according to the documents. “JANE DOE remembered saying ‘no’ a lot,” the report said. The woman consumed “much more” alcohol than normal that day, she told authorities, and much of the encounter with Hegseth occurred after things became “fuzzy,” she said, according to the documents. Days later, the accuser told a nurse that she suspected “something may have been slipped” into her drink that October 2017 night, according to the police report. The records do not indicate whether investigators asked her about her suspicion that she may have been drugged. Hegseth told officers that, throughout the encounter, he repeatedly checked to ensure that the woman was comfortable. He expressed that he did not want to get her into trouble, according to the report. Hegseth said she showed “early signs of regret,” the officer wrote, noting that he “did not elaborate.” Timothy Parlatore, Hegseth’s lawyer, previously told The Washington Post that his client was “visibly intoxicated” that evening. Citing video surveillance footage that showed the two of them walking arm-in-arm, with the woman smiling and looking coherent, he claimed that the woman was the “aggressor” that evening. The newly released records confirm his description of the video footage but do not address his characterization of the woman as the aggressor. While one witness described the woman as “coherent” and Hegseth as “very intoxicated,” the records show, Hegseth himself told police he was “buzzed” but not intoxicated. “This confirms what I’ve said all along, that the incident was fully investigated, and police found the allegations to be false, which is why no charges were filed,” said Parlatore. The papers do not say how police assessed the woman’s allegations and do not address the veracity of either side’s claims. “Pete Hegseth is a highly-respected Combat Veteran who will honorably serve our country when he is confirmed as the next Secretary of Defense, just like he honorably served our country on the battlefield in uniform,” Karoline Leavitt, Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman, said in a statement. The records support portions of a memo that a friend of the woman sent to Trump’s transition team last week. That memo alleged that the woman had tried to intervene after two other women attending the conference complained that Hegseth was being “pushy” about taking them to his room. Police interviewed two other women at the conference who said that Hegseth had placed a hand on their thighs and invited them up to his hotel room. One told officers that she asked Doe to help ward him off, according to the report. The accuser’s identity has not been made public, and she did not respond to messages this week. She filed a complaint with police days after the encounter. Hegseth’s attorney said Saturday that Hegseth agreed to pay her after she threatened litigation in 2020, fearing publicity could result in his termination from Fox News, where he was then a host. The Trump transition team was alerted to the incident after receiving the detailed four-page memo from a woman who described herself as a friend of the accuser. The memo -- a copy of which was obtained by The Post -- alleged that Hegseth raped a 30-year-old conservative group staffer in his room after drinking at a hotel bar in Monterey, where he had been speaking to a California Federation of Republican Women conference. The sender of the memo did not respond to requests for comment. Dean Flippo, the Monterey County district attorney at the time of the incident, said over the weekend that he had no memory of the case. That’s not unusual, he added, because the office deals with a high volume of investigations. The current district attorney, Jeannine Pacioni, has declined to comment.

All of this is set to the music of the week's concert series performer blasted through loudspeakers. “I wanted a space that was intentional and inclusive to everybody,” said Jameka Pankey, the head of events and experiential for artists at Amazon Music. They use their label connections and instincts to keep them ahead of the game and ready to pivot and lockdown the artist with the next big release. “We try to really be as genre agnostic and diverse as possible,” said Kirdis Postelle, global head of content and artist marketing at Amazon Music. She works with Andrew Sexton, who handles booking for “AML.” “Our team, along with myself, are active in conversations about this program,” said Sexton, who is considered a label relations guru. Some of the selling points to attract artists have been to capitalize off the NFL's huge viewership, promote their project and perform with top-notch production. “We're very active," he said. "We're always in communications with artist's teams and people are reaching out to us too. ... We're in constant conversations with the industry." Following a high-stakes “Thursday Night Football” matchup is plenty of pressure. But pulling off a live major concert after a big NFL showdown? That’s next-level intensity. “It’s the challenge which is fungible start time,” said Ed Walker, the head of video studios at Amazon Music. He played an integral role in the concert series moving from a shared studio lot in Hollywood to now filming at East End Studios — a complex with more than 96,000-square-feet of space, including two soundstages, a rooftop terrace, green rooms and three stories of office space. After the game wraps, there’s an hour preshow on Twitch and a top-of-show segment that takes audiences into the artist’s world. The hope is to create a “closer connection” before their performance, introducing more insight into the artist’s project. There are sweepstakes and competitions to maintain intrigue. “We immerse them into what they are about to see,” he said. “That is a moving target. You have a very large audience watching football, and then we have direct communications to the control room broadcasting that and they are giving us real time updates.” Walker admits it’s a tough balancing act, keeping the football audience engaged while also entertaining “AML” viewers before the show kicks off. “We got to meet in the middle, entertain them all, give them context and start the show,” he said. “While all that’s happening, we have to make sure the artist is on the stage and hits the cue on time.” While artists are rehearsing, Postelle wants to make sure they’re comfortable and don't leave. That led to the idea of an artist experience with food, games, drinks and privacy. “We do that to make artists feel good about spending so much time here,” Postelle said. “The last thing you want is for somebody to be like ‘I’m going back to the hotel to take a shower’ and they fall asleep.
